high protein foods review
not much point trying everything if i just forget aye
protein powders
perform chocolate whey (): its mid but better than vanilla cos theres some flavour
perform vanilla whey (): mid
muscle nation vanilla custard casein (): the casein flavour is sickening but texture is ok
Bsc caramel protein mousse (): good flavour very creamy with crunchy bits, and casein is tolerable, consistency dependent on amount of water
muscle nation protein custard golden ice cream (): really yummy it tastes like ice cream and has honeycomb, biscuit and something else in it
Bsc cookies and cream protein mousse (148kcal/23.3p): it's just the cookies a cream flavour with no texture, its alright
protein bars
aussie bodies lo carb whipped chocolate (): its ok
aussie bodies lo carb salted caramel (): its ok
aussie bodies lo sugar crunch rocky road (33g/129cal/8p): not really a legit protein bar, it's basically exactly like the image on the packaging, dark chocolate coat with liquorice, and it's like soy protein nuggets not like a normal protein bar. it was ok i just wanted to try it, but wouldn't get it again
noway marshmallow bar birthday cake (45g/135cal/14p): literally a chewy marshmallow in dark chocolate could not taste the bday cake flavour cos of bitter chocolate. trash
musashi high protein milk chocolate brownie (90g/309kcal/45p): mid and kinda flavourless except the chocolate coat but good ratio for a bar
musashi high protein cookies & cream (90g/308kcal/45.5p): has a weird taste not as good as choc brownie
maxines burn bar choc caramel crunch (40g/124kcal/15p): tastes ok, like crunchy but chewier, lots of chocolate
maxines burn bar white choc raspberry (40g/124kcal/14.7p): very good, actually tastes like the flavour. pretty dense but not too hard. actually it's a little sickeningly sweet
quest birthday cake (60g/177kcal/21p): good, tastes like sugar or a yoghurt bar. the new one doesnt have a chocolate coat but its chewy and nice even though its a homogeneous texture. probably the best quest bar
quest choc chip cookie dough (60g/193kcal/21p): chewy and relatively soft, no chocolate coat but has chunks. tastes ok but kind of like nothing, a little like chewing cardboard
quest cookies and cream (60g/193kcal/21p): soft and kind of dry, no coating, a little sweet, better texture than cookie dough
quest raspberry white choc (60g/188kcal/20p): really chewy but u can taste the 13g of fibre. quite sweet and good taste, no coating too. i feel like all quest bars have the same base with different mix-ins
Bsc low carb bar cookies and cream (60g/205kcal/19.2p): not good but ok compared to other cookies and cream flavours, layer of pear concentrate hmm
Bsc low carb bar toffee apple (60g/ 208kcal/17.2p): it tastes like a museli bar. its quite soft and has a white chocolate coat with honeycomb pieces on top. pleasantly mid.
onset boysenberry (30g/106kcal/10.7p): coated in dark chocolate which I'm not a fan of, quite soft and light, not dense at all so slightly larger than expected, berry flavour is not strong
crankt salted caramel (60g/213kcal/20.3p): really soft and has milk chocolate coat. can't really taste caramel, tastes strongly of protein. kind of mid, it's ok if ur used to the taste of protein
protein snacks
justines keto cookies chocolate chip & raspberry white choc (): well they don't taste good but they're ok, id say it's an acquired taste cos i hated it at first
yoghurt
chobani fit (): kinda sour but ok, limited range of flavours
yopro perform (): they're ok, only 2 flavours in big pots, key lime is the best
yopro high protein (): i like how its a nice round calorie number per serve, they all taste ok but salted caramel is the best
yoplait forme zero strawberry (100g/37kcal/4.4p): ridiculously low calorie so i don't care how it tastes but it tastes good like normal yoghurt
cottage cheese
bulla (): very good
bulla onion and chives (): the onion is disgusting
aldi westacre (125g/111kcal/16.5p): very good too, doesn't get watery after opening
woolworths creamed (100g/93kcal/11.3p): dense and salty, does get watery, also it's still lumpy
gum
extra intense mint: the mint flavour lasts hours but it's just mint not exciting
extra pineapple coconut: nice sweet flavour and lasts decently long
5 blueberry: good, not too strong flavour which lasts not that long

ZR Secret Santa!
Happy Holidays @crazyspookies! Have some Christmas-themed fluff. Set in Season 1 with no spoilers!
“Five, what the hell are you doing!?”
Sam’s voice reverberated in Runner Five’s ear as they pelted back toward the gates of Abel, a massive bag slung over their shoulder.
“Runner Five, this is a major security breach,” Janine added, her anger emanating through Five’s earpiece. “Going for a run without notifying any of us -- you are facing disciplinary action when you arrive.”
“Assuming Five outruns those zoms...” Sam growled. “Come on, Five, you’ve got a pack behind you clipping at a decent pace. Pick up that pace!”
Five sped up, breath coming in heavy gasps. The bag felt heavier and heavier by the moment, but they were determined not to let these specific supplies go. They had gone to too much trouble finding it all.
Another 200 meters in, and Five spotted the shining red beacon that was Abel’s comms shack. With a grunt, they ran faster, turning behind them to count the zoms still following behind.
“Raise the gates!” Sam cried, spotting Five.
The familiar sirens blared as Five skidded through the gates, the grasp of one zombie just brushing the back of their neck. The gate clanked shut behind them, and, unable to maintain balance, Five toppled over to the ground. The bag they had collected dropped beside them.
“Five!”
The comms shack door burst open, and Sam nearly tripped in his eagerness to reach Five.
“What the bloody hell did you-- why would you--” he spluttered indignantly.
Five smiled, stood, and brushed the dirt off themselves, slinging the massive bag over their shoulder again.
“What is that?” Sam asked, frowning. “Five, that was really dangerous. You really need to tell us when you’re going out for a run. You just disappeared, and none of us found you for hours-- and then, when we did manage to track you, you were in the middle of the forest with a dozen zoms breathing down your neck. How do you expect us to keep our runners safe if they just leave?”
“Not to mention, by themselves,” Janine said, still over the radio. Five glanced up at the comms shack and saw her formidable figure standing at the window, arms crossed and looking none too pleased. “I am going to have to report you for irresponsible behavior, Five. That was unacceptable.”
Five put a hand on Sam’s shoulder, gave Janine and apologetic little wave, and strode back toward the sleeping quarters. Janine might yell at them for a few days for this stunt, but Five was certain Janine would forgive them… eventually.
***
Five hadn’t been able to find presents for everyone. With Abel’s population growing at an alarming rate, it had only been logical to pick and choose who would be receiving Christmas presents. Five felt a little guilty about it, what would they have given to Molly and Ed anyway? A new motorcycle?
Five crept around Abel to different sleeping quarters, where the Abel residents were getting ready for bed. Some, thankfully, seemed to already be exchanging presents, so Five felt a little less guilty about not finding something for everyone.
Janine, Simon, Jody, Sam, Eugene, Jack, Sara, Maxine, and Sam all seemed a little perplexed when Five found them and beckoned them to follow. Most of them were already in pajamas, but went along to a little tent Five had constructed just for this occasion. Soon, everyone was crammed inside and looked around at one another.
“Five, if this is for mission planning, I must say that this is quite unorthodox--” Janine began, but Five held up a hand.
Silently, Five took out nine parcels, all wrapped a bit clumsily with newspaper, but looking fresh and clean all the same.
Simon’s eyes lit up. “Christmas presents? Aw, Five, you shouldn’t have.”
Five passed them out, one by one, and then waved to them with a signal to open them.
Jody gasped in delight as she ripped the newspaper off her long and slim gift. “New knitting needles! Oh, Five, that’s brilliant. Thank you so much!”
Jody and Five smiled at one another as everyone else unwrapped their gifts. Jack and Eugene both recieved replacement headsets for their radio show and wrapped Five in a massive bear hug.
“Protein powder?” Simon laughed, unwrapping his. “That’s just excellent. I was running out. How did you know?”
Five had managed to find a new stethoscope for Maxine and a hunting knife for Sara, and they both smiled broadly and showered Five with thanks.
When Sam opened up his own gift, he stared down at it for a moment and then looked up at Five. It was a plain orange hoodie -- nothing special about it, really, except that the inside was exceptionally fuzzy.
“You remembered I’m always cold,” Sam said quietly. “Five, this-- this is really sweet. Thank you.”
He reached over and squeezed Five’s hand, and they smiled broadly in return.
“So this is where you ran off to today?” Simon piped up. “Off to do a bit of last-minute Christmas shopping?”
Five gave a roguish little smile and shrug. Why reveal all of the secrets to the magic?
In truth, Five had been planning this for weeks. The protein powder and knitting needles had been easy enough to come by, but Five had needed to do some sneaky bartering with neighboring settlements to find the other items. Five had originally wanted to find an Aquaman costume for Sam, but that was just a little too specific, so an orange hoodie would have to suffice in its place.
When Sam and Janine had discovered Five on their mystery run, they had just been on their way back from Scoobs settlement, having traded a pack of beer for Sara’s hunting knife. Five glanced over to her, and was pleased to note that Sara was now flipping the knife over and over in her hands, inspecting every bit of it. That was a good sign.
Finally, everyone turned to Janine. Her gift had been the most difficult to find. It had taken weeks for Five to track down the toolkit that now lay in her lap. Janine was always complaining that she didn’t have enough tools to properly fix the electronics in her house. Janine stared down at the brand-new set that Five had stolen from a home improvements store five miles away. That had not been a pleasant run.
“Five…” Janine said slowly, looking up. “Where did you find this?”
“Does it matter?” Simon laughed. “It’s amazing. Janine’s been wanting some of these for months.”
“Five that’s--” Janine struggled to find words, and Five smiled softly. “Runner Five, this is-- something I have greatly needed, as Simon said. But I do not usually accept bribery--”
“It’s not bribery!” Sam retorted, exasperatedly. “It’s Christmas! Five went out on that solo run just to find those presents for us!”
“In any case,” Janine continued pointedly. “I do not usually accept gifts as peace offerings. But. As it is a special occasion… I am willing to make an exception.” Her face softened. “Thank you, Runner Five.”
Five chuckled and sat back, watching everyone enjoy their Christmas gifts in the tent. For living in the zombie apocalypse, Five was feeling quite joyful on this Christmas Eve. Infuriating Janine had definitely been worth it.

Reader review: Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering
PRODUCT INFORMATION: One in four Kiwi adults have high cholesterol: it’s a scary statistic, but luckily, one you can do something about. Now, managing your cholesterol could be as easy as eating your favourite cereal. A 2016 clinical trial conducted by Dr Clifton in partnership with Sanitarium, found that Weet-Bix™ Cholesterol Lowering effectively lowered LDL cholesterol by up to 9% within 4 weeks.
Reader reviews
Initially I was sceptical…
I was sceptical about the ability of 2 daily Weet-Bix to lower my cholesterol after just 28 days especially as mine is familial and I eat a fairly good diet. But the results speak for themselves and mine was lowered by 23%! Whilst the rest of my family regularly eat Weet-Bix for breakfast I didn’t. But it was super easy to add the 2 cholesterol lowering Weet-Bix to my regular breakfast smoothie of blueberries, cinnamon and protein powder. Definitely 5 stars for delicious. I like the fact I get added fibre as well and will have no problem keeping up this daily routine.

I didn’t know I had high cholesterol
So, once I got over the irony that as a middle-aged university student of Human Nutrition, with a good diet and healthy BMI, that I didn’t know I had high cholesterol (I found out during a research project), I started investigating plant sterols following a recommendation from one of my lecturers.
The science is sound and there is plenty of good evidence that they work, unfortunately there is just not many sources of fortified products in NZ…in fact there was just the one, margarine. Not my favourite food! So I was very excited when I found out later that week about the new Weet-Bix.
Another confession…I’m not very good at eating breakfast, there always seem to be too many other things to do in the morning getting everyone up and out for school and work, so it is normally a piece of fruit in the car. Now I haven’t suddenly started eating breakfast every morning, but I have been able to most mornings and when I couldn’t I had it for lunch! I also made some stewed apple (no added sugar) to add some variation a couple of times, but, on the whole, it is very easy to eat and taste tests conducted by the whole family couldn’t tell the difference between standard vs plant sterol Weet-Bix.
On the plus side, I’ve been able to reduce my total cholesterol and my ratio, as well as getting in a serving of milk which is great for my calcium intake (very important for women of my age!) So fantastic all round.
Sam Devlin
Loving the slight crunch
5 star rating – I loved the Weet-Bix, it had a slight crunch to it, enjoyable as standard Weet-Bix but with the added benefit of lowering cholesterol, with proven results. Already a regular purchase on my shopping list.
Maxine Barnard
LDL down nearly 15% over 5 weeks.
I’ve been on a campaign to reduce my Cholesterol over the past several months. Appreciated being able to take part in a 4-week trial of cholesterol lowering Weet-Bix. Was adding low fat yogurt, fruit, various seeds/nuts & oat milk with 2 Weet-Bix each day. Had a half packet of the product left after 4 weeks so decided to carry on another week before retesting LDL levels. Had a 14.7% LDL reduction over the 5-week period coupled with a 13.3% HDL increase. If you’re trying to do something about your cholesterol, why wouldn’t you try it!
No hesitation recommending it with level 5 rating!
 Lindsay Oliff
I’m loving breakfasts again!
Last year I discovered I had high cholesterol, after a visit to my GP and following recommendations on dietary changes to help lower my levels, I was really struggling for breakfasts that were quick and easy and that I enjoyed.  I tried lots of different things and was getting really frustrated with my lack of choice and I wasn’t looking forward to breakfasts at all.  I love this product, I enjoy mine with milk and a sliced banana every day, I look forward to breakfasts now!
Rating: 5 stars from me and was excited to see on my local supermarket shelf recently.
Tania Miller
Didn’t believe it would work
Hard to believe eating my two tasty Weet-Bix every morning was all I needed to do to start lowering my cholesterol. I didn’t believe it would work but it did! This tasted just like regular Weet-Bix and is such an easy breakfast. You can mix things up by putting the Weet-Bix into smoothies or stick to traditional Weet-Bix with milk. I will definitely continue to eat this Weet-Bix as it is great for my health and super simple and tasty. I rate this product 5 stars.

In a nutshell, it can be put together that research has found that to get the greatest retort from amino acids, you can supplement with both BCAA and EAA supplements. BOTH OF THE SUPPLEMENTS CAN BE CONSIDERED AS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS YET POWERFUL ENOUGH TO BE SEPARATED.

BCAAs are also known as branched-chain amino acids. They are grand building slabs of protein that have a branched molecular structure. Three major types of BCAAS are Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucine. They are one of the vastly traditional sports supplements available in the market.
On the other hand, EAAs comprise 9 out of 20 amino acids, which are also recognised as essential amino acids. All of these are trustworthy for performing different functions in the human body. Lysine, threonine, histidine, tryptophan, methionine, valine, lysine, leucine, and isoleucine are essential nine types of amino acids.
But for a long, there have been many debates regarding BCAA and EAA supplements. Is one of them better than the other? Or they both can be substituted for each other?
The fundamental difference between BCAA and EAA is that BCAAs supplements compose 3 out of 9 essential amino acids, whereas EAAS virtually includes 9 amino acids that are deemed to be essential. A body cannot build itself by itself, so one has to obtain supplements to fulfil its requirement.
