Winx Club actor AU & Headcanons - Part One

Just a bunch of thoughts I have on an actor AU for the Winx Club. I went crazy for this. ENJOY! Time makes no sense here because AU.

Iginio Straffi and his team of producers; Mary, James, Jennifer and Steffani did their best to build the story of Winx Club. But they couldn’t quite get it off the ground until late 2002.

The producers looked at over 1000 girls to find the five main fairies. They were keen on getting their main five when they were building the show in 2003 so they could announce them as quick as possible.

Tecna got cast first which was a surprise. They needed a girl who could be rational to a fault but could also have emotions sitting in the background aching to forth. When This actress with a punk look Tania Garbarsky came through the doors, Iginio knew they had their fairy of technology.

Flora was next. They had all types of girls auditioning but none could get this character duality of shy but with an inner power she hadn’t totally grasped yet. Then Alice Ley came in and they loved her. She auditioned for Bloom, herself and Musa originally. They had her come back a couple of times until they were 1000% sure.

Esther Alfallo was more of a theatre and movie star so she wasn’t sure she wanted to commit to a TV show and really wasn’t sure of Winx. She had just finished a year doing a bluesy musical version of Much Ado About Nothing and needed a new project. So her manager found her something different to try out and she did. She nabbed the role of Stella, the sun and moon fairy because everyone just loved her vibrant sunny energy.

The main character was difficult to cast because no one actress really fit the bill. Or the producers were just wushu washy, changing their minds every five minute. Until they saw a certain redhead behind the open door, Caroline Cowen. This redhead was Bloom and she had auditioned for Stella. They had her come in for the MC and they admired the righteous and impulsive fire this girl brought to the role while remaining likeable. Bloom originally was bummed to not nabbing Stella but this character grew on her.

The fifth fairy was difficult to cast because her character wasn’t even completely ironed out yet. The producers knew they wanted artsy but tortured for the character and they were gonna name her Lisa. So they had a jumble of mismatched girls coming in for the role. Eventually this Chinese-Belgian green haired actress—Jia Meng Liang aka Melanie Dermont—comes in with her soulful eyes and a voice that can be sassy and heartbreaking at once. They really liked her so they kept bringing her back, while redesigning this character to fit this actress, Musa. She had just gotten off of School of Rock when she began with Winx.

After one chemistry test between the girls where they tested out the scene in 1x02 when the club is being named, (in what the girls remember as a pretty blue room) Iginio and the producers stood up and yelled “the Winx Club has been formed.”

When talks began about bringing in a sixth darker skinned fairy to the team, Beatrix Soverall (who plays Stormy) or Nathalie Stacy (Darcy) came to Steffani the producer (this story varies on who told it) and told her about this really cool actress named Delphine Maurice who they should consider. She’s more of a model and an athlete but she has done a few notable screen roles before. Yes, Delphine is a friend but she’s talented. A while later, Delphine was contacted to do a trial run, then a screen test with the girls to test for chemistry. It was palpable and everyone knew they had heir sixth fairy.

Darcy, Stormy, Jared from season 2, Musa and Aisha like to hang out a lot.

There was a major cast party when the newcomers for season 2 was cast. The Winx, Specialists, Trix, School staff, pixies and even Calvin Shuemacker (who plays Knut the Ogre) came.

Palladium, Griffin and Faragonda couldn’t make it unfortunately. And Darcy was real upset when Ediltrude and Zarathustra from Cloudtower mentioned they couldn’t come either. Apparently they are the life of the party even at their age.

Tony Beck (Timmy) likes to steal props from set. His favorite is his gun.

Isobel Gilbert (who plays Icy) is a natural blonde and she dies her white white and adds extensions to make her hair extra long to play Icy. So does Darcy. Stormy has a wig on since she has regular straight hair and it’s quick than spending hours frizzing her hair. They have a running joke about how none of them have real hair.

Francine the Water Fairy and Bloom met on casting day and are friends.

Mirta actually brought in her pumpkin t-shirt one day on set. Costume design loved it and had to incorporate it in her character look.

Darker is mostly CGI. His actor has to put on a green screen suit whenever he has a scene.

Brandon is a riot on set and everyone loves him. Everyone character has been shipped with him at least once so he’s started a rumour that he’s dated every character cause he has chemistry with everyone. Musa still gets red about it sometimes.

Riven actually is a pretty soft guy and cries easily in real life so he has a hard time being moody and unlikable in season 1. Bloom and Sky had to hug him after Bloom humiliated him in that episode.

The girls love their Enchantix forms but moving around with their new wings were a bit of a challenge at first.

Darcy auditioned for Flora back in the casting process. Because of this, she and Flora were always trying to convince the writers to do a body swap episode. They think it’d be hilarious to see Flora be mean and sneaky and have Darcy be softer and friendly.

Helia’s hair is mostly a wig which is a surprise to everyone.

Kiko is a trained rabbit that Bloom had really bonded with. She got to keep him after season 1 wrapped up.

Most of the show is filmed in green screens and made up sets. None of the Schools are real.

Sky has somehow landed in the hospital at least once per season. The guy is just really clumsy.

The girls all got really teary and emotional at the movie premiere of SotLK.

They did the countdown thing HP did for their final filming days. There are videos of everyone crying at least once in the BTS of the movie with the Winx giving one final speech before wrapping up.

They all did come back for season 4 and it was hugs all around.

People thought Roxy was just Tecna with longer hair when they first saw her picture but she easily dispelled that rumour. Many were outraged that they let Tecna let her grow that long.

Nabu ate a lot of food on set. He and Riven were known to grab handfuls of food and return to their trailers when they don’t have a scene.

Bloom and Stella like to playfully bully each other. The fandom loves shipping them.

People loved Valtor a lot, they brought the actor back to play Ogron.

Jared from season 2 cosplayed as Duman one Halloween.

Tecna is a big Voltron fan. She and Timmy binged every iteration of it and we’re quite excited for the Netflix adaptation.

Daphne is the same actress from Scooby Doo. She loves scaring people whenever she’s on set. People love her and Bloom together. She stole her mask from set. She’s a natural redhead but wore a blonde wig for season 5 and dyed it blonde for 6.

Icy, Lucy and Shilly (a witch from Cloudtower) have this podcast where they talk about their experiences on the show and it’s mainly a lot giggles and jokes from their days on set.

Tecna came out as nonbinary in season 3. Pronouns she/they.

Thomas “Unicorn of War” Vaccaro is a friend of Stella and under Griffin’s wing who was hired to write for seasons 5 and 6. Yes I’m putting him here. His is the only acceptable version of the Nick years of Winx Club.

Everyone has a crush on Brandon. I mean the man is pure sunshine, how can you not love him.

Musa, Darcy and Stormy are secret She Ra fans. Their queer hearts can’t take it.

Bloom highkey a nerd and she has a YouTube channel where she does reviews about media she’s consumed.

Flora and Helia give great massages to those that need it. People keep telling them to do something about it.

Sky was a foot model for sandals once and he regrets it to this day. Musa makes fun of him for it until Darcy reminds her that she was a hand model once.

Mike and Vanessa were adopted as everyone’s parents on set since they’re all mostly teenagers and young adults.

Griselda is the antithesis of her character. She loves to laugh with Stella and tells the most outrageous stories of her youth. She also causes a lot of bloopers.

The pixies are mostly CGIs of their actors’ heads and computer generated bodies.

Aisha, true to her character, loved the episodes revolving around water. Also to prepare for the episodes where she goes blind, she watched Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock.

Roxy might be seen as an industry nepotism baby, but the girl worked long hours to prove she belonged on Winx Club, including watching every single episode and movie to get ready for season 4.

Musa wrote many of the songs from season 4 and the specials. Bloom’s favorite is Heart of Fire from the Specials.

Icy, Darcy and Stormy were upset that they were not included in season four so they came to set as often as they could to cheer people on. They took “High School reunion” pics on those days.

Just watched this video essay on season 3 and why we OG fans love it so much. It’s super cool. I highly recommend it. It makes some very good points.

Winx Club - Inconsistencies & Questions I have

I thought I’d list down some inconsistencies I’ve found in Winx Club, mainly because they are so busy making the show marketable. I may be an original fan but don’t think I didn’t notice these things. Feel free to add other inconsistencies you have noticed @cyithrel Seriously, if I rewrote Winx Club, I could add so many new headcanons.

Why was Stella on earth in the first episode? We never found that out.

For being such an emotional person, how come Bloom only discovers her powers at 16?

Is Flora a princess or not? In Magical Adventure she says she is. She was invited to Domino’s Restoration ceremony where I imagined people thought she was a princess but her parents are botanists.

Musa is not a princess but I’ve heard she was.

Tecna isn’t either but I swear she was one in the comics.

Why does Aisha’s name change per country. I grew up with the show in French so I met her as Layla but in English, she makes sense as Aisha.

Daphne. She doesn’t make sense either. In Nick, she wasn’t Bloom’s sister yet she is in the general canon. It makes sense if she was her guardian fairy or even fairy godmother. Why is she blonde if neither of her parents are?

Roxy may be a Winx but she also isn’t. She’s only a clear member in season 4.

Do people hate witches universally? And yet why is Cloud Tower a popular witch school if witches are hated? Or is there more to the lore that we just never got an explanation for. Maybe the witch hatred changes from planet to planet. Eraklyon for example, hates them.

Are fairies and specialists considered better? Because this would explain why partly why the Trix want to take over the magical dimension cause they’re tired of the mistreatment of witches.

The Trix are super inconsistent: originally they were supposed to be the Ancestral Witches made young but that was scrapped. If each Trix is fashioned after each ancestor (ie Lysliss is Icy, Darcy is Belladonna and Stormy is Tharma,) then it doesn’t make sense for the Trix to be sisters because that would mean each Trix is descended from three different lines. Are the ancestors even related?

The writing just adds new lore that just throws off or away established parts of the canon. Like Erendor being responsible for Domino’s destruction. That should have been revealed in season two and made Eraklyon be Bloom’s ally for its restoration.

Some of the transformations don’t make sense. Obviously they were added for marketing. Sirenix is an example of a lost transformations since Daphne and Politea were the last ones before the Winx. What tf about Bloomix or Mythix.

Mythix could be a transformation the Winx discovered. Or at least unlocked since the Great Dragon roamed the universe and fairies came to the universe. Eldora or Nebula didn’t seem to be aware there was a transformation attached to it.

Bloomix could be a new transformation… (Fucking named it after Bloom.) But then how would Faragonda know what it’s called. Maybe it’s a super rare transformation. Dragon Fire wielders might even rarely earn it.

I understand and even admire the concept of Enchantix being earned through a sacrifice for someone of your own planet. By why from someone from your planet specifically? Who was it that wrote Bloom could have sacrificed herself for someone on Earth since it’s practically her planet too. And how can I explain Tecna sacrificing herself for Andros. Either she’s part Andros (which could make her part mermaid 😁) or the rule isn’t as clear cut as Faragonda made it.

What’s Brandon’s deal? How did he get to be Sky’s squire. And why is he a squire? I swear he looks like he is better than Sky.

Where the fuck are all the boys from? I refuse to have them all be from Eraklyon. Timmy could be from Zenith too. Which leads me to wonder why are they just eye candy? Maybe it was just of the time.

Oh and about the girls’ ages. If we follow general convention that each season takes place a year apart from each other (making the girls 23 by season 8,) or we just count the years and take into account the years of hiatus which would make the girls around 30 by 2022.

Why are the Major fairies part of the lineup in season 4 if we only meet them after like episode 20? Diana, Morgana and Aurora could have been cool additions to the club. But what about Nebula. Seriously why are they there?

Does anyone remember a season 4 opening without the major fairies or just me? Because I swear it’s a thing.

Switching transformations should have been a thing since season 5 instead of insisting of staying with one or two transformations per season. For example; Enchantix is the baseline and can allow for some of the basics of other transformations (like allowing for magic underwater and breathing in space.)

What the fuck is with Nabu? He should have been back by now. I refuse to think he’s really dead when Morgana and Nebula promised said they’d watch him until he woke up again.

Why can Daphne control the elements? Is that a power an ex keeper of the dragon flame gets? I still feel like Bloom has other powers she hasn’t unlocked yet.

Flora… About her magic, she seems like her only power involves plants. If she’s the fairy of nature, she must have other powers or she needs to change her title, something more than fairy of flowers and maybe more specific than fairy of nature.

Stella. She’s barely got moon powers. Is her sun half more overpowering? And how does it work. I am starting to see why Nickelodeon decided to just let her go by Fairy of the shining sun.

Aisha: how did she decide on her diary title? How did she learn about Morphix. Can it affect water or Morphix its own thing. And can it be given away like the Dragon Fire?

Why are the Winx fighting Darkar before Valtor? It seems to me Darkar is more powerful and dangerous. It always comes back down to the Dragon Fire.

There is something about Trixie  Season 1

Aside from my attempt to make this a funny title and failing miserably, I would like to dedicate this post on Trixie. No real speculations until the very end mind you. Most of this post will be theory free, a bit vanilla if you like until the very end.  Now due to the length, this will be divided into two posts, each covering one season. The second season will have some heavy speculation in it. 

Pilot 1x01

Many have wondered about Trixie’s surname. Up until recently, Trixie in fanfiction sites was usually picked as a character, as Trixie Decker. Several have skipped that option and have put Trixie Espinosa but what does the production say? A bit tough. You see in IMDB Trixie doesn’t have a surname. That’s a big deal. At the same time if we see one of the last pilot scripts Trixie has a surname but Chloe is there as Chloe Dancer, not Chloe Dexter. Let’s all agree that Trixie is an Espinoza according to the show so far. 

In the same episode, we see her as a regular 7-year-old and that is fine. There is nothing to question in the pilot aside from the fact she is vert happy to actually meet the Devil.. Yet we have to go back to the script again. In the available script online there is a detail in the elementary school which was not included in the pilot episode. There is no clear answer here if the script actually plays with Amenadiel’s presence (despite actually mentioning that) or if it goes deeper without giving out any spoilers/hints. 

So yes apparently in the pilot Amenadiel drops by at the elementary school or does he? We will never know or perhaps we don’t know so far. 

Moving on! Still on the pilot, many have been confused on why Trixie is obviously darkish when compared to Chloe and Dan. Thus I remind you two things. First, Kevin Alejandro has one child and he takes after his mother a lot. Beautiful kid by the way, yet this again is not explanatory to Trixie’s complexion. Yes, Kevin Alejandro is actually a fair Latino but in the original Pilot, Dan Espinoza was played by Nicholas Gonzalez. The written gruff character changed along with the actor but that benefited the show I believe. Now Lucifer was always set on him being a Douche.... Alejandro or Gonzalez. Dan Espinoza was a Douche.

Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil - 1x02

Lucifer meets the child again in the second episode and we also meet Molly McDowell...  A ballerina by day, but a ninja-chemist by night. Who can forget Lucifer asking whether fetching is way too advanced for a 7-year-old? Still, this could have been a moment which we could all pass if it wasn’t for two little things. One Trixie meets Maze in 1x10, but why would that be interesting? It wouldn’t if Molly McDowell didn't share her surname with Celeste McDougall (The sweet smug-faced 92-year-old, deceased woman in 2x18). 

Trivia: McDowell and McDougall are the same surname with just a spelling difference. Both legit by the way. The surname sans the Mc means black stranger. I’m not going to say no more aside from the fact that you already know my 2x18 ending theory.   

The Would-Be Prince of Darkness - 1x03

Trixie: Mommy, did Daddy forget to pick me up? Chloe: No, monkey, I'm sure he's just stuck in traffic. Trixie: Are you doing homework? Chloe: Um, sort of. Trixie: What's the assignment? Chloe: Uh, well, I saw Lucifer do some things I can't explain. Trixie: Is Lucifer a magician? Chloe: That's sort of what I'm trying to figure out. Trixie: When Daddy gets here, maybe he can help. Chloe: Mm. Trixie: Sometimes Daddy helps me with my homework. Chloe: I'm not sure if Daddy has the answers to these questions. Trixie: Why don't you just ask Lucifer? Chloe: Because if he's a magician, then he won't reveal his secrets. So I have to find out on my own how Lucifer does these things that I can't explain. Oh, that can't be him.

In episode 3 there is nothing I can really tell you although Lucifer found Chloe’s phone somehow. Okay so I’m not going to blame the kid here but for a future reference, which I’m not going to explore in neither post I’ll just highlight the: When Daddy gets here, maybe he can help. Aside from that imagine if Chloe did ask him. We would have had out revelation scene perhaps ages ago.

I’m just going to leave this here with only one note. This child is perceptive on where this was going...

 Sweet Kicks 1x06

In this episode, Trixie does not make an appearance but we Chloe mention’s her

Lucifer: It's wonderful, isn't it? Uh, when do I get my own gun? 

Chloe: I wouldn't trust you with my kid's lightsaber.

Of course, I don’t read much into this. After the double references from Lucifer about the Jedis and speaking in the speech alteration device saying: Detective, I’m your father” We can say that this is just a funny reference and yet something bothers me when I try to pass it as such. Yet what we do know now is that both Lucifer and Trixie are HUGE fans of Star Wars. 

Wingman 1x07

No appearances nor is she is mentioned in the episode. 

Et Tu, Doctor? 1x08

In here we will just pick the nod towards Neil Gaiman and not the first one at least until 2x05. In the end of the episode, Chloe teases Dan that Trixie persuaded him to read her that book about a sneezing panda, five times...  The book is actually called Chu’s Days Board written and all we can tell about it is this: 

Seriously now that was an adorable reference but what I’m going to leave you here is that Chu also visits a circus... Just saying if you picked that up. If you didn’t I’m not going to tell. It’s kind of a spoiler after all. 

A Priest Walks into a Bar - 1x09

No appearances nor is she is mentioned in the episode.

Pops - 1x10

This episode is an iconic one for both Trixie and Maze. A small kid enters a bar and is served a stiff drink by a demon while she tells what ales her.  

I’ll try to get the Uber ride ordering pass, as we all know that the kid is way too smart and move on to the Bar scene.

When Maze asks her why she is searching for Lucifer all she says is that he cheers her up. Here she steals the show of course but we cannot claim to have anything deep in here aside from one tiny fact. That kid was able to befriend the Devil and a Demon in less than a minute.  Lucifer punished her bully while Maze did what seemed logical to her. Offered her a free drink. That I would guess goes a long way in her book. So let’s admire again how she can make friends with celestial being so easily. And a question here... Do we consider Maze to be a celestial being? Well until 2x13 then. 

St. Lucifer - 1x11

No appearances nor is she is mentioned in the episode.

Lucifer: But since you're up, I have some questions for you. Trixie: Right. Lucifer: Are you adopted? In other words, are you sure the Detective is your mother? Could she be from somewhere else? Does she have any special powers? Trixie: Uh-uh. Lucifer: What about any markings? Scars, on her back perhaps? There's some chocolate cake in it for you. Trixie: want cash. Lucifer: Oh. (chuckles) I like your style. Trixie: All right. Mommy does have a scar. Lucifer: Oh? Trixie: On her butt. From when she got bit. By the Kraken. Lucifer: Right. Not the direction I was going for, but what's this Kraken that you talk of? Chloe: My mom's evil Chihuahua.

The spawn moved from chocolate cake to cash.  In season 1 we have seen that Trixie can manipulate her parents pretty well but that applies for you average 7-year old pretty easily.  At this point, I could ask... What if Trixie is the one adopted here? Yes, we have nothing to back that up and it would be a real bummer for me so I hope it will never happen in the show but it was something that I wanted you to keep in mind just in case.  Sometimes I also wonder this. We have several opinions on why Lucifer is connected to Chloe. Some say it’s because Lucifer might have been sent to protect her and he has done that. Others claim that Lucifer just stumbled on Chloe’s path and she was destined for something far away from Lucifer. Who knows at this point? Now just take this point of view. What if Lucifer did not stumble on Chloe but on ultimately on Trixie? As we will see in Season 2 the lines are blurred a bit and therefore I wonder if Dad wanted Lucifer to play Guardian Devil at some point by playing even step-dad as well?  The above semi-theory is a bit farfetched but I would have welcomed it. Even more, if my headcanon was real but that’s for another post... Perhaps even the next one about Trixie in Season 2. 

Take Me Back to Hell - 1x13

In this episode, we have the chilling kidnapping of Trixie by Malcolm. The funny thing here is that although Trixie adores Lucifer since the first time she sees him, something we cannot blame on Lucifer’s charm, she doesn’t like Malcolm.

As we saw in the pilot Lucifer doesn’t have the same effect on children like he does in adults. Their gender doesn’t matter and although I believe he can draw out their desires, he cannot make them be as enamoured with them as adults can be in his presence. Perhaps that is why he is afraid to be near them. He has no power over them and we can attest he has some control issues.  Back to Trixie, what we learn from this episode is that the child can distinguish real evil. Perhaps she can even sense divinity in some extent but that’s a talk for season 2. What we will keep from this episode is that Lucifer saves Trixie and Chloe, in a sense, he bargains his life for two people, not just one as we the Deckerstar fans usually assume. 

Also when he reunites with Chloe and Trixie Lucifer hides his bloody shirt. In a similar move like the one in a pilot when he stops Dan and Chloe’s bickering, he instinctively protects Trixie. The similarity between the two scenes always makes me think that we have more to see from Trixie when it comes to her relationship with Lucifer. Yet only time will tell
