It’s Care Bears’ 40th anniversary and while I don’t like a lot of the merch, I do love that Care Bears put the work into the design by using vintage art and even matching up the typeface and design of the original cartoon logo. We’ve been seeing the @mcdonalds Halloween pail return with a whole lot of complaints- people just wanted to have their old pails back. And that’s the big mistake companies are making now as they rush to cash in on 80s nostalgia- you can’t actually just slap something 80s onto a piece of plastic and expect to inspire brand loyalty. We understand sometimes materials have to be updated- after all, we’ve all ingested all sorts of toxicity from plastics and such from the 80s. But what fans don’t get is why companies can’t just reproduce those beloved objects from childhood. The 80s generation would gladly pay for lids on the Halloween pails. We would proudly display said pails in our homes of the printing hasn’t been so bizarrely offset. And that piece of plastic on the handle? Yeah there’s no discernible function to that. So take a leaf from the Care Bears and next time you try to woo our nostalgic hearts, McDonald’s- don’t get creative.
