It seemed like most people were enjoying his costume and honestly that was part of the reason he was wearing it even if it was outside his comfort zone. “I believe you’re my next match,” he said with a smile on his face.

31st October, 1998; Boo’ed Up || @mcntalism
“Well, well!” Blake beams unabashedly as she settles herself into the seat opposite Jackie, leaning back with the weight of earned confidence and a couple of drinks. She brings the mental tally of ‘people here I’ve already slept with’ to three. “I think we might be doing this whole thing a little backwards, don’t you?”

“Jackie, girl, I need your help!” She burst through her sister’s office, barely knocking as she did so. “Mr. G, he’s gone. I think someone stole him.”

“I don’t understand this shit.” Art, it never made sense to him. It was just a bunch of random bullshit that people put together and sold for a shit ton of money. “They just put random fucking colors on this sheet, how is that art?”

@mcntalism !!
“sorry,” he precludes with an apology, hoping his presence isn’t offensive. he almost never approaches someone in public, not without the expectation that they’ll run screaming before he can even think about reaching them. “do you know where this is?” he points at a spot circled on the map... the very same that he can’t read.

WHO: narcissa & @mcntalism
WHAT: jackie catches narcissa’s eye (¬‿¬)
WHERE: omega festival
“You don’t look excited to be here,” she comments, glancing at the stranger standing beside her. The woman is beautiful, and looks like she could beat the shit out of Narcissa, which makes her even more attractive. “Not a fan of endless stalls of sugar and rigged games?” Maybe she’s unhappy about Yaren — she is replacing an Omega who passed away not even two months ago. Narcissa can’t imagine that everyone is thrilled about it. The Omegas are ridiculously adored by quite a lot of people. Eurynome had fans, but she assumes Ira will have just as many, eventually.

upon seeing jackie, emmeline was unsure what the say. she had lost her sister yet nathaniel’s daughter had somehow managed to be one of the lucky ones. she had by no means come out of it unscathed but she had come back from death, multiple times in an unnatural way. her power control regressing was a cause for concern and her incident with louis made her feel like her days here were numbered. it was always conditional and they couldn’t have an essex threatening the safety of others; whether it was intentional or accidental didn’t matter. little colour remained in the woman’s face as she sluggishly moved around the institute, avoiding as many eyes as possible. however, she couldn’t do that with jackie. the woman was admirable, the way she was helping, no, training others... emmeline couldn’t understand how she could do it after such a tragedy. the woman wanted to say ‘sorry about your sister.’ but instead she chose to just look at the woman, it forming into a stare before she shuffled and averted her gaze.

Milo can’t miss another class. If he could, he wouldn’t have even left his room today. The blistered skin at his collarbones still aches, but he grabs his training bag and hurries through the halls regardless. There wasn’t much he could do to keep the neat bandaging he’d done himself from poking out of the collar of his shirt, but maybe Jackie wouldn’t ask.
“Sorry I’m late,” he apologizes quickly, ducking his head at his mentor. The kind of subservience he was used to in Essex, an apology for his general existence in the hopes of avoiding any anger. “I’m, uh.” Milo freezes as he starts to pull off his jacket; he’d forgotten the burns Elliott had left at the collar, blackened and finger-shaped. He quickly whips it off the rest of the way, balls it up. He’ll have to buy another one. “I lost track of time.”

WHO: cordelia & @mcntalism
WHAT: big strap energy besties!
WHERE: xavier’s gym
“See, I’d love to spend hours in the gym beating the shit out of a punching bag, too. But... This sandwich just called to me more, you know?” Cordelia knew she’d find Jackie in the gym. Her friend always has a lot of pent up aggression to release. “So, who’re you picturing? If you say me, I’ll have to call my opossum for backup,” she says, with a teasing smirk. Since Theodora’s death, Cordelia tries to keep things as light as possible when she sees Jackie. She doesn’t want her to feel like she has to spew out her feelings to her just because of her job title.

in terms of emotional vulnerability, jackie had never been the most open book. all information he received -- if he received any -- came from moments of having his ability on blast around her, of feeling what she felt as collateral damage.
but he had ensured that would not be the case now -- his ability being active in large gatherings ? absolute hell. nonetheless, it had to be hard, watching your family get replaced in a celebratory fashion. but is that what she would really like to talk about ? he could try later. now was a matter of letting it all be.
“ it’s nice to see you, jackie, ” he greeted with a fond smile. then, with furrowed eyebrows, he nodded towards the platform they would be taking and asked, “ have you met their new recruit ? ”

GRACIE’S DINER, 11:12 AM ⇢ @mcntalism
dulcet tones litter through the diner, paired with the soft and soothing hums of music resonating from the speakers. she could pinpoint what the people were currently inside gracie’s diner—relaxing, working, daydreaming, waiting.
a darling old lady with wisps of graying hair stubbornly poking out of her otherwise neat bun, with a cup of coffee encased in her hands as her glassy eyes peer out the window, presumably waiting for someone.
a scruffy-looking businessman with his eyes locked on to the new york times, his fingers curling around the thin parchment every now and then; theodora takes that as a sign of slight panic. maybe the stocks were plummeting. maybe he won the lottery. maybe he saw an obituary of a person he once knew.
a college student proudly wearing her sorority sweater, jotting away at her notebook at a swift pace with three espresso shots lined beside her stack of books. she hastily pushes her glasses from the bridge of her nose and takes another sip of her espresso, making a slight shuddering noise as she does, and goes back to writing.
the rest? behind the counter, idly chatting about the ins and outs of working in a diner and placing a fresh batch of ham rolls inside the display case. it’s a relatively quiet day, and theodora is actually feeling… excited. she’s seated in her (old) usual booth near the window, comfortably leaning back as she lays her drink down—
—waiting for her sister.

Blake can feel it — an adrenaline-fueled anger that mixes with a heady dose of fear, all accompanied with the sounds of a struggle. She’s not exactly someone who has to worry about walking home this late at night, so she opts to head towards the feeling rather than away from it, rounding the corner and letting her fingertips tingle with the impulse to manifest a weapon. “Excuse me,” Blake calls out casually enough, absently surprised that she’s getting none of the same fear or anger off the other half of this altercation. “There some kinda problem?”

vera had a difficult time letting go. this was meant to be a positive thing but it filled her with dread. she wasn’t able to help her daughter anymore and her own selfish act of not helping her seek out professionals had nearly caused her death. she swallowed as she drove up to the xavier institute for the first time, fully aware that she was inexperienced and couldn’t have any expectations as to whom she’d encounter. the woman wanted to think she had been doing the right thing as her intentions weren’t malicious but it had hurt her family. she had been wrong and admitting it was hard for her.
once out of her car, she looked towards the unfamiliar building and hesitated approaching it. there was no going back to how things used to be in her degree of blissful ignorance. the look on her face gives so much away: her frustration, fear of the unknown and her control issues coming to the surface, all in a frowning expression accompanied by a scrunched up nose. the woman is delaying her approach because she knows things will change all while she’s underprepared for it. it’s a foreign feeling that vera is not enjoying. still shuffling on her feet, vera looked back towards the way she came. did she have to do this now or could it wait until tomorrow?

emmeline still shifted around the institute as if she was an intruder - some would argue that was the case. some people weren’t at all happy but having a chance and having support were two very different things. still nervous about what would become of her after she seemed to have been attacked in pure daylight, the woman was jittery. seeing someone at the corner of her eye made her jump; it didn’t matter if they were coming towards her or not, that nervousness was going to be there regardless. “sorry. you took me by surprise.” the other hadn’t really done anything, it was emmeline’s fear that continued to drive her.
