CHAPTER ONE 

“Divorce papers, huh?” she mustered up the decency to pretend it was a question, though they both knew it wasn’t. She figured it was the least she could do for Clint, seeing as she had made the executive decision to crash on his couch while she was in between missions—and apartments—and relationships. A decision she had yet to inform him of.

“Yeah, right before our anniversary. Go figure,” Clint slumped into the couch beside her, allowing the ratty blanket and loose papers to engulf him. Abra furrowed her brow at him, trying to determine whether he was joking or not. When it came to Clint she could hardly tell. For a moment, she could almost understand why Bobbi had divorced him.

“Clint. You started dating Bobbi in December,” she gestured vaguely to the window she knew Natasha had cracked open so she could sneak in undisturbed. Sunlight slanted through the glass and a family of pigeons had made themselves at home on the fire escape. “It’s May.” “Huh,” the papers rustled as he dropped the stack back onto the dejected pile between them. “I guess these make some more sense now.”
