Dick-less and Afraid: a Deep-Dive into BOTW Game Mechanics and Long-Term Liquid Exposure on the Physiological Characteristics of Hylians
So. We're doing this again. If this is your first experience on my blog, allow me to direct you to the original dick-canon post, but feel free to raw-dog this essay if that's more your style! Without further ado, I present: Why Wild Shouldn't Have A Penis–With Pictures!

Now that that's taken care of: in the previous post, I analyzed the length, girth, and physical appearance of Wild (BOTW Link)'s penis–which I can confidently say is likely 5.6 inches, average thickness, and contains a slight glow-factor that shall not be named–with only the shortest of nods to the crux of this dissertation: Wild's penis and how the hell it survived a century underwater, assuming it's even attached to his pelvis at this point.
But before that, there are several factors that must be considered before the long-awaited dick analysis. Namely, how did Wild even survive at all? It's obvious that he did, considering his game is named "Breath of the Wild" and not "Breath of the Corpse", and there's no external indication that he's dead--or some type of dick-less ghost--so the fact that he is well and alive is strongly established in the BOTW franchise. With that out of the way, he can move on to the specifics of his death-defying nap, particularly in the Shrine of Resurrection itself. For those who need a refresher, the Shrine of Resurrection is where Link (Wild) awakes at the beginning of the game, dressed in only a pair of navy underwear, and is gifted his trusty Sheikah Slate before being unleashed upon the wilds of Hyrule.
However, from a physiological standpoint, this should not be possible. According to my two-hour Google research session at 3am, it takes approximately one to three weeks to die from being submerged in freshwater, assuming the water is:
a) sterile; which lowers risk of infection that can hasten the dying process
b) at a livable temperature; which typically falls between 77°F and 82°F*, assuming Hylian's have the same body requirements as humans
c) equipped with some sort of waste filtration system; everyone poops, and I can't imagine what the shrine would have looked like without anything to clean that up
Even with this generous criteria, there is no possible way Wild, who shares a very similar physiological make-up with humans, could have survived in the Shrine of Resurrection for an entire century, regardless of whether the liquid is fresh or salt water. But, obviously, he did, so there must be an explanation past video-game-logic-handwave-bullshit, which is exactly why I offer you the concept of sheikah-engineered hydroelectroshock therapy.
To start, I am in no way, shape, or form, an engineer or health professional, but this is a dissertation about a fictional character's (nonexistent) dick, so I think we're awarded a bit of plausible deniability on the topic alone. With that out of the way, let's begin dissecting the mouthful that is 'sheikah-engineered hydroelectroshock therapy'. For those who aren't familiar with the term 'electroshock therapy', it's a form of psychiatric therapy that involves using electricity to trigger small seizures in the patient's brain to treat severe mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, but there have been cases of it being applied in a more physical sense as well. One of these instances is catatonia, which is described as a condition in which the patient "is [in] a state in which [they are] awake but does not seem to respond to other people and their environment". While this may not directly describe Wild's state upon being placed in the Shrine of Resurrection, it would make sense that, due to dying, his mind would be suspended in a similar state while the Shrine repaired his wounds, which gives sufficient grounds for the use of electricity as a mode of preservation.
But how? How was this treatment administered? How was it maintained? How in Hylia was it successful?
Wonder no longer, because there is an explanation. If we're assuming that the Sheikah clan somehow created a pseudo electroshock apparatus within the Shrine to keep Wild alive until he was healed, we must first delve into the specifics of the Shrine itself, particularly the 'bath' he wakes up in and the fact that it is filled with water, which is an excellent conductor. However, let's take it a step further and assume that the water has a high salt content, which would make it especially suited for hydro-electroshock therapy. The Skeikah, knowledgeable as they are, are likely aware of this fact, and it's no surprise that they would fully take advantage of it for the continued prosperity of both Hyrule and the Royal Family.
This, combined with the obvious technical prowess of the Sheikah Clan, means that the Shrine of Res-erection was likely engineered specifically for this purpose, which would explain the very electrically-forward design and, obviously, the fact that it did its job and worked. Hooray.
But, before we move on to dissect the horny section of this dissertation: how would water electroshock therapy work? Is there a criterion any such machine must meet to keep a hylian heart beating? The answer? Absolutely! As I pray most of you know, while the heart is a considerably strong organ, it is not immune to the dangers of electricity, especially when water enters the equation. Google estimates that it takes a minimum of 50 volts for a shock to be considered lethal, though this is not necessarily determined by voltage alone, as the length and rigor of the electrical current also play a large role in determining the severity of a shock. And, because I know some of you are wondering: 'fyre, why are you talking about a medieval AED device when you could be talking about penises??', I promise, you're going to want to hear this. While we're on the topic, AEDs typically administer between 200 and 1,000 volts to the heart, which forces the SA (sinoatrial; controls the upper heart's ability to contract via electrical signals) node to reset and, by association, the heart itself to resume a normal rhythm. Despite this, a mere 50 volts can prove fatal to the average, healthy human, meaning the maximum voltage of the Shrine
And what voltage would that be? 30 volts. Over the course of this research, I discovered the ICD (Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator), a device typically placed inside the chest cavity that delivers mild to high shocks to the heart to offset a falling pulse rate. I'm not saying that Wild has any implanted monitors, but I am saying that if anyone found a way to pack an ancient defibrillator and do it sexily, it would be our resident gremlin man.
Now, to the part you've all been waiting for, Wild's dick and why it most certainly didn't survive the encounter. And, before you come (tee hee) in the comments to scream at me for making our Wild Child penis-less, hear me out. According to Google at 2am, continuous saltwater submersion is a terrible idea, particularly because it causes hemolysis, a sister-condition to osmosis in which the patient's red blood cells absorb too much water and subsequently burst. This is not good. Moreover, it can take between several weeks to several years for this condition to prove fatal, but we're going to assume that over one hundred years of exposure would be enough to do the trick. Again, this is not good. Due to a combination of continuous saline water submersion and skin science stolen from my anatomy textbook, I can conclude that, under probable conditions, there is no possible way that Wild's penis survived his time in the Shrine, even if it can be argued that the rest of his body was preserved through mild electroshock engineering. Much like a corrupted JPG file, while the Shrine of Res-erection may have preserved Wild's essential biological systems, certain peripherals... didn't make the cut.

Despite this insanity, questions remain:
If the Shrine of Res-erection (I promise I'm done) is a modified EKG/electroshock chamber, who's pressing the buttons? This took a significant amount of brainpower to articulate, but I firmly believe that Princess Zelda monitored the feed religiously through her own slate. No further comment, your honor.
How in Hyrule did Wild's boxers survive when not even his penis could hang on? Textiles, my good reader. I hesitate to say cotton, which typically has a variable survivability of 90 days (27% material lost under aquatic-degradation test), and polyester( 13% degradation in 90 days), which leaves me no choice but to humbly suggest oilcloth, a type of oil-soaked cotton known for water repellency.

November 11, 1930: Patent Granted For Einstein-Szilard Refrigerator

Albert Einstein is best known to the general public for devising the world’s most famous equation: E=mc2. But his contributions to physics extend over a broad range of topics, including Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect, special and general relativity, and stimulated emission, which led to the development of the laser. Less well known, even among physicists, is his work with Leo Szilard to develop an energy efficient absorption refrigerator with no moving parts.
Szilard was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1898, the son of a civil engineer, and served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. After the war, he returned to university, studying physics under Einstein and Max Planck, among others. His dissertation was in thermodynamics, and in 1929 he published a seminal paper, “On the Lessening of Entropy in a Thermodynamic System by Interference of an Intelligent Being”–part of an ongoing attempt by physicists to better understand the “Maxwell’s Demon” thought experiment first proposed by James Clerk Maxwell in the 19th century.
Szilard had a knack for invention, applying for patents for an x-ray sensitive cell and improvements to mercury vapor lamps while still a young scientist. He also filed patents for an electron microscope, as well as the linear accelerator and the cyclotron, all of which have helped revolutionize physics research. Szilard’s most important contribution to 20th century physics was the neutron chain reaction, first conceived in 1933. In 1955, he and Enrico Fermi received a joint patent on the first nuclear reactor.
Einstein wasn’t a stranger to the patent process, either, having worked as a patent clerk in Bern as a young man. He later received a patent with a German engineer named Rudolf Goldschmidt in 1934 for a working prototype of a hearing aid. A singer of Einstein’s acquaintance who suffered hearing loss provided the inspiration for the invention.

When they met, Einstein was already a world-famous physicist, thanks to his work on relativity, while Szilard was just starting out, as a graduate assistant at the University of Berlin. The impetus for the two men’s collaboration on a refrigerator occurred in 1926, when newspapers reported the tragic death of an entire family in Berlin, due to toxic gas fumes that leaked throughout the house while they slept, the result of a broken refrigerator seal. Such leaks were occurring with alarming frequency as more people replaced traditional ice boxes with modern mechanical refrigerators which relied on poisonous gases like methyl chloride, ammonia, and sulfur dioxide as refrigerants.
Einstein was deeply affected by the tragedy, and told Szilard that there must be a better design than the mechanical compressors and toxic gases used in the modern refrigerator. Together they set out to find one. They focused their attention on absorption refrigerators, in which a heat source–in that time, a natural gas flame–is used to drive the absorption process and release coolant from a chemical solution. An earlier version of this technology had been introduced in 1922 by Swiss inventors, and Szilard found a way to improve on their design, drawing on his expertise in thermodynamics. His heat source drove a combination of gases and liquids through three interconnected circuits.
One of the components they designed for their refrigerator was the Einstein-Szilard electromagnetic pump, which had no moving parts, relying instead on generating an electromagnetic field by running alternating current through coils. The field moved a liquid metal, and the metal, in turn, served as a piston and compressed a refrigerant. The rest of the process worked much like today’s conventional refrigerators.
Einstein and Szilard needed an engineer to help them design a working prototype, and they found one in Albert Korodi, who first met Szilard when both were engineering students at the Budapest Technical University, and were neighbors and good friends when both later moved to Berlin.
The German company A.E.G. agreed to develop the pump technology, and hired Korodi as a full-time engineer. But the device was noisy due to cavitation as the liquid metal passed through the pump. One contemporary researcher said it “howled like a jackal,” although Korodi claimed it sounded more like rushing water. Korodi reduced the noise significantly by varying the voltage and increasing the number of coils in the pump. Another challenge was the choice of liquid metal. Mercury wasn’t sufficiently conductive, so the pump used a potassium-sodium alloy instead, which required a special sealed system because it is so chemically reactive.

Despite filing more than 45 patent applications in six different countries, none of Einstein and Szilard’s alternative designs for refrigerators ever became a consumer product, although several were licensed, thereby providing a tidy bit of extra income for the scientists over the years. And the Einstein/Szilard pump proved useful for cooling breeder reactors. The prototypes were not energy efficient, and the Great Depression hit many potential manufacturers hard. But it was the introduction of a new non-toxic refrigerant, freon, in 1930 that spelled doom for the Einstein/Szilard refrigerator.
Interest in their designs has revived in recent years, fueled by environmental concerns over climate change and the impact of freon and other chlorofluorocarbons on the ozone layer, as well as the need to find alternative energy sources. In 2008, a team at Oxford University built a prototype as part of a project to develop more robust appliances, and a former graduate student at Georgia Tech, Andy Delano, also built a prototype of one of Einstein and Szilard’s designs. Yet another team at Cambridge University is experimenting with cooling via magnetic fields. Perhaps this invention won’t revolutionize the world, but in its own small way, it might help spare the planet–more than 70 years after Einstein and Szilard first conceived of it.

Research Topics

The minimum score in the qualifying degree
For General/OBC category candidates and/or for candidates where no concession in academic performance is called for, the eligibility criteria in the qualifying degree:
a minimum of 60% marks (without round off) in aggregate, OR,
a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on the scale of 0-10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than on 0-10, (for example, 4.8 on a scale of 0-8).
For SC/ST category candidates and differently-abled candidates (PwD), a relaxation of 5% (or CPI/CGPA of 0.5 on the scale of 0-10) in the qualifying degree is applicable.
Candidates with M.Sc. or equivalent degree MUST fulfill any one of the following:
Valid GATE score
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR/ PMRF or DST INSPIRE Fellowship
Eligibility of applicants who are in the final phase of getting the qualifying degree
Students who are in the final phase of receiving above mentioned qualifying degree and who are likely to graduate before the commencement of the Spring 2020 semester of IIT Dharwad are also eligible to apply. However, if offered, the admission to those candidates would be provisional.
To join the academic program at IIT Dharwad, such candidates need to furnish necessary documents regarding completion of the degree on the date of joining mentioned in Section A above. They need to meet the criteria specified in sections above considering the updated score in the qualifying degree.
In the meanwhile, the aggregate academic performance announced by the respective university till the last date for submission mentioned in the above section should be used to determine eligibility for application and same to be reported in the online application.

The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering admits Ph.D. candidates under the full-time research scholarship or Teaching Assistantship (TA), Project Staff-Teaching/Research Assistantship through Project (PS-TAP/RAP), Govt./Semi Govt. Fellowship Award (FA) (QIP, CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST Inspire, DBT, NBHM, PMRF etc.), and externally sponsored research scholars.
Selection process/criteria
Round 1: All the eligible candidates will be invited for preliminary screening.
Round 2: Top 10-15 candidates selected from Round 1 will be invited for the second session of online interaction.
The final list of main and waitlist candidates will be decided by performance in round 2.
General Guidelines for Applying Online
1. Please read all the instructions related to IIT Dharwad PhD Admission given in the brochure carefully before filing up the application form.
2. Application fee has to be paid prior filling online application. The transaction details such as Reference No, Transaction Date and Name of the Account Holder have to be mentioned accurately in the application form. The contact number mentioned in the remarks/comments field of the online payment mechanism has to match with the one entered while filling the application form. It is also recommended to upload a proof of payment of application fee in pdf format just before submission of the online form.
3. This information brochure and future updates regarding the admission process will be made available on the institute website under section Academics >> Admissions >> Ph.D.
4. You are required to submit the application form online. There are no downloadable forms available. After filling the form, you are advised to take a print and keep the same for future reference.
5. The application fee is as follows:
