( twenty three , cis man , he / him ) ✉ ― hey babes , have you met OSCAR MEDICI ? they’re working here as THE HEAD CHEF AT LORENZO’S , a few villas down from where you’re staying . you might hear them singing ALRIGHTY APHRODITE BY PEACH PIT playing from their villa , it’s their favourite song . yes , they hear that they look like JACK GILINSKY a lot , actually - it’s really uncanny . their friends back home in SYDNEY , AUSTRALIA say that if they were on a tv show , their trope would be THE WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING , how funny is that ? ✎ chloe , 22 , she/her , pst

oscar’s arrival was as unwanted to his parents as could be : a father whose tendencies leaned towards alcoholism & abusing whoever was in arms reach , a mother whose life was more or less spent at the nursing home she worked as a nurse at , evading home . he became a self - inflicted loner , preferring to do literally the exact opposite of what was expected or wanted from him . he had a few friends he ran with , but watching them all go off & study or prepare for university solidified in oscar’s mind that the non - traditional route was for him . growing up by the water , oscar always felt more drawn to skip school & head to the beach than he did obeying his parents wishes .
one of his solaces was his grandfather , gabriel , who owned an italian restaurant in a beach town north of sydney . whenever the weather was bad & oscar felt like ditching class , he’d head over to his nono’s restaurant where his ass would be put to work as soon as he set eyes on the restaurant . it was tough work , but challenging in a way that fanned the flames in oscar’s heart , rather than dimming them . by the time he was a teenager he was working in the restaurant everyday after school , an agreement between him & his grandfather framed on the back wall that stated that as long as oscar kept from flunking out , he was allowed to spend as little or as much time in the kitchen as he pleased .
his absolute defiance of anything traditional & following the rules made him unpopular with adults , but lowkey cool with the girls . by the time he was sixteen , he was losing his focus on the restaurant & his grades & spending more & more time chasing after girls . his nono tried to get oscar to come back & focus , but as always , anything he’s asked to do quickly becomes the thing he’s running from the most .
tw : death , cancer . around his eighteenth birthday , his grandfather suddenly fell ill with a rare form of cancer that took his life six weeks after diagnosis , which rocked oscar’s world . he felt overwhelming guilt that he hadn’t spent more time with his grandfather , which manifested itself as oscar dropping out of school a year shy of graduation to commit himself fully to perfecting his grandfather’s techniques , learning all of his recipes ( read : pouring over dozens of handwritten cookbooks ) in some failed attempt to get back some time with him . oscar hadn’t been close with his parents in years , more or less seeing them as wardens of a prison he wanted nothing to do with . his grandfather’s will left him the deed to the restaurant , with an ask that oscar would promise to act on whatever he felt called towards , rather than doing what others expected of him . to be candid , this whole situation crushed him .
eventually , he decided he’d had enough of the stifling community he’d grown up in . he sold the restaurant to one of the regulars , a wealthy man who he’d come to acknowledge as somewhat of an uncle ; a safe pair of hands who would treat his grandfather’s legacy with as much passion & respect as oscar himself would . so he packed a bag , texted his mom that he was going traveling , & got on a flight that evening . he traveled all around - first through central america , then through europe , throughout asia & africa , & spent a few months driving a van across the continental united states & canada for fun .
eventually , he started getting low - ish on money , & decided to settle in one of his favourite places he’d visited : southern france . he arrived in early 2018 , taking on whatever menial tasks he could while learning french until he got a position as a line cook in an italian restaurant . a few years later , he’s made his way up to filling the head chef position , an honour he takes with pride . he’s implemented many of his own recipes while using flavours he’s learned from his travels , with ingredients straight from local farmers . he’s earned the restaurant a two michelin star rating , & is constantly striving for more to get that last star ( both for his own ego as well as a secret debt to his grandfather ) .
𝐢𝐯 .
ok but that vid where gordon puts two pieces of bread on someone’s head & calls them an idiot sandwich ? that’s oscar . intense as fuck in the kitchen , & best nobody catch an attitude about it bc he will not hesitate to hand them their ass on a silver platter .
another gordon reference : you know how he’s the spawn of satan with adults , but the sweetest , most helpul guy with children ? that’s oscar with his staff vs people he wants something from . whether its to sleep with them ( usually his first instinct to be fair ) , their money or clout , or to get into some wild adventure some random resort staff wouldn’t dream of getting into , he can turn on the charm whenever needed .
can go from absolutely demoralizing someone in the kitchen to stepping out into the lounge to schmooze with his friends or cougars who leave phat tips in 0.2 seconds . the speed at which his mood can completely 180 is one of the seven world wonders ( last i checked ) .
his love language is absolutely acts of service . catch him actually falling in love once in a blue moon & making it his mission to cook her extravagant meals everyday .
the wolf in sheep’s clothing label epitomizes his nice , helpful , charismatic exterior , while ulterior motives & disdain for those who grew up with more money than he did lurk beneath the surface .
he can be MEAN when someone fucks him over or pushes him farther than he wants - isn’t afraid to go for the low blows or send someone home with an identity crisis if it protects himself .
lowkey alcoholic but he’s not ready for that conversation yet . he sees it more as perks of the location & atmosphere he’s found himself in .
also lowkey falls in love HARD , like this man is a closeted romantic but self - sabotages all potential relationships before they can get to that point out of fear he’ll be unable to live life of his own volition ( takes a flaky philophobic sagittarius to know a flaky philophobic sagittarius 🤡 ) . has probably only had a few real relationships besides flings bc he’s afraid .
𝐯 .
check out my wanted plots tag listed here , as well as my pinterest wanted plots board here . here are some other suggestions hehe :
best friend / ride or die : someone who knows about his past , keeps him grounded when he’s lk spiraling & wants to drop everything & flee to some far flung corner of the earth .
actual relationship : it was fast - burn with deep feelings ( not them thinking they’re soulmates after dating for a month . . . pete & ariana type beat ) but completely unrealistic . they have their own life , he’s pretty much tied to the restaurant , not to mention his lack of sharing anything about his childhood / life back home . they loved & cared for each other , but crashed & burned fairly quickly because of how idealistic it was . they can either be on bad or good terms now .
hateship with sexual tension 😈
summer flings !!
fake boyfriend : he shows up on her arm to her family’s events where she’s expected to have a partner . it’s not a real relationship , but her parents don’t need to know that . he plays the part & satisfies her parents beyond the bare minimum , & in return she invites him to parties , takes him out on her family’s yacht , etc etc . we luv some symbiosis
i can always use more fwbs hehehe
squad : a group of people who do everything together , have a chaotic group chat , have nicknames for one another , are utd on each other’s sex lives , party all night then show up to brunch hungover together .
cat & mouse : someone he’s pursuing who isn’t quite giving in , & vice versa . maybe it’s been going on a few years , everytime they’re in st tropez they have this weird lil flirtationship thing goin on until she leaves , they forget about one another , then pick it right back up when she returns .
confidant : preferably someone from a working class background who understands his plight of being a worker amongst people who expect to be waited on .
enemies : they don’t like his attitude , & he doesn’t like them in return . lots of eye rolls , shit talking , & tension between their mutual friends .
we’re sleeping together but we shouldn’t be but that’s half the fun : for whatever reason they became friends , starting hooking up despite it not being a good idea ( read : he’s exes with one of her friends , her parents want her focused on career , they’re part of the same friend group , etc ) . . . but now they can’t stop . lots of stolen glances across rooms , squeezing past one another in a crowded club just close enough for a quick touch to the back , quietly leaving one another’s places the morning after & playing dumb to anyone who asks .

the oliveri family are known for their wine & restaurant chain, oliveri ( humble ik ) . it started out in verona but they were able to expand it to the US , it was more profitable anyway. it’s very similar to the olive garden but more high end and italian .
that’s why rome was born in boston , ma. the oliveris fell in love with the city , a perfect mixture of historic & modern . although , his parents were always travelling back & forth between boston & italy , which would explain the numerous babysitters walking in and out of the household . they might’ve been really busy, but not busy enough to pop out 3 children , rome , of course being the middle child .
the oliveri aren’t insanely rich , but they are crazy rich . i mean they don’ t have 20 cars , but they did gift their child a bmw for his 16th birthday . their wealth resides somewhere in the scale between having a summer home in verona & having way more rooms than people in the house .
ever since he was a kid rome has always been a trouble child , his older brother was way too perfect & someone had to balance it out . he loved drawing on walls , hugging his dog to death ( not literally ) , playing sombre music at his piano recitals & hiding his brothers toys all around the house .
his behaviour changed over the years but never for the best . of course his parents sent him to a catholic boarding school , not only he would follow into his brother’s footsteps but it would teach him a couple of valuable lessons .
all he really learned was how to persuade adults into buying him alcohol and then pouring into water bottles so he could drink it in class, how to clean the smell of smoke or weed from any environment & his clothes , how to find loopholes in the school rules & numerous ways to sin .
he eventually graduated from the school, not without being threatened with expulsion a couple of times . whereas his brother went to harvard , of fucking course , rome decided to go to holloway . way more accessible, further from his parents & the fascinating history that lingered in the walls of the academy .
the summer before he moved to the academy , his parents sent him to verona to “ connect with his family ” but instead of staying at their summer home , he resided with his maternal grandmother , cecilia . she took no bullshit & cooked incredible meals . she taught rome valuable lessons & tried to fill his heart after all these years of neglect . with time & care , he softened a bit , his walls 2ft high instead of 3. he learned how to care deeply for people , especially cecilia .
𝚙𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚢
rome is a bit of an enigma , he doesn’t like to share about his life , he thinks people don’t have to know . he mids his business & expects everyone to do the same .
he likes to seem that he gives no fucks , but that’s not entirely true . he has been invisible for long enough & deep down loves attention ( the right kind ) .
he loves his friends to death despite not showing it .
he’s a good flirt but that’s when he’s in a good mood , which isn’t often .
𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚗𝚜
he hates being called romeo , it’s cheesy ( his parents know it , who tf calls their kid romeo ?? ) . it’s rome or gtfo , his grandma is the only one who calls him romeo without him throwing a fit . the story behind his name is that his parents met in school while doing a romeo & juliet play .
he knows how to play the piano , but to spite his parents , he decided to go for the guitar . he has been playing for several years now , not in front of anyone really , it’s for himself . he kinda sounds like this .
remember when he went to boarding school ?? well , him & his friends had a competition in school who sinned the most . they kept tallys and all ... he won . ( btw sinning could also b wearing polyester ... get ur head outta the gutter john b )
if u didn’t catch on , he loves his grandmother to death . he sends her post cards now & then .
favourite historical moment u ask ?? the french revolution . or the 15th century w the medicis .
fluent in english & italian . when he doesn’t want someone to understand him he will speak italian , his phone & siri are also in italian bc ~ secretive ~
𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚗𝚎𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜
boarding school friends : pretty self - explanatory hehe .
brotp : they know everything or almost about each other , very funny sarcastic duo , a la jj and pope from outerbanks , scott and stilinsky from teen wolf or these two .
someone who sees he’d not a complete ass , maybe he helped them in some way ??? this is v vague & could b anything .
no idea what this is but i love it . support ??? emotionally healthy ??
someone who calls him out on his bs . maybe they hate rome or trying to help him ?
pls hmu for any connection !! i’m sure i’d love anything tbh !

106: Chosen
Hello and welcome to Reign The Dress where we power rank the women of Reign based on the power in their dresses. In this episode we are reminded how much the CW loves loves loves a love triangle.
9. Grier (-2)
Grier did an excellent impression of some upholstery in this episode.
8. Lola (-2)
Somewhere inside that enormous ruffle there is a sassy queen who deserves more.
7. Ailey (-2)
She looks pretty good in white and she didn’t fall prey to any blackmail schemes this week. But that is one unsightly braid crown. Bird Hairdressers: 6 Ailey: 0
6. Mary (-4)
How the mighty have fallen. She spent most of the episode in that drab blue dress whining on about how some stupid prank with a deer head is a threat to her kingdom and making sad eyes at Francis. She’s got to get back to her power black outfits.
5. Crazy Eye Maid (unranked last episode)
Turns out she was hiding a dagger under that flouncy maid outfit. Gown of Great Evil goes to her this week.
4. Kenna (-)
"Shut up Kenna” - Lola. Kenna goes for a soft mistress-y purple frock to greet her returning lover, only to be totally outdone in mistress-y purple-y-ness by...
3. Helen (unranked last week)
Gotta give it to her, she looks powerful in mistress-y purple. Her long gazes indicate that she seems to be scheming something and we can’t wait to find out what.
2. Olivia (+1)
The costumer designers seem to have made a “French tartlet” mood board and are dressing Olivia accordingly, including adorably mussed bedroom hair and an awful lot of corsets. She’s certainly out-tarting Mary in both dress and attitude.
1. Catherine de Medici
Catherine is rocking some massive pearls and some big red dress energy this episode. The steel in her eyes when the promised to start burning random villages was frankly pretty hot. Especially in contract to Mary in her powdery blue sack dress, Catherine is our power queen this episode for sure. Long may she reign.

23 September 2019
Hi blog world, me again!
Today is my first day as an official 20 year old!!! I had the most amazing Italian birthday with my friends, and all of the messages you guys sent made my heart so full! I feel very lucky to have such love in my life :)
This past weekend was so. freaking busy. My High Renaissance Art History class went on a 13 hour field trip on Saturday. Thirteen hours. I left my house at 7:30 and got back at 8:30. However long and grueling the day might have felt, though, it was the coolest field trip ever. We started the morning off in Vinci and explored the town where Leonardo was born, which was extra special this year because it is the 500th anniversary of his death. I got to see the fountain where he was baptized and walked through a museum filled with models of his never-before-realized inventions. It felt super unreal to walk the same streets that one of the most important people in the history of art once had. After that the trip continued stopping at a bunch of villas that belonged to the Medici family way back in the day. The houses were absurd. Like I can’t believe people lived in those places. They were huge and so ornate and unlike anything I had ever seen before. We were shuttled around the outskirts of Florence looking at a bunch of these places for about 6 hours, and then finally, with dead tired legs, I got to go home.
When I got back my roommates had decorated the apartment for me!
It was so sweet and such a nice start to my big birthday weekend!
The next day six of my friends and I went to lunch at a 1950s themed American diner, got wigs, hung out, drank champagne, watched movies, and just had a really great time. I didn’t (and still don’t) have a phone lol so I responded to all of the emails that you all sent me and just got to enjoy what a wonderful life this is!!! We had a crazy good dinner (at a fancy restaurant where we all wore our wigs and got so many looks) and I went to bed the happiest, newest 20-year-old there ever was.
This is the start of my 3rd week of school, and my main project is creating a mood board for a line I am developing in my fashion design class. I really like the vibe I’m going for, and will post a picture of the mood board when its done! :)
Sending all of my love to everyone across the world
xoxoxoxo Halle Liese <3
p.s. leave me a message! i’d love to hear from you :)

An Impressionistic Animated Film Tells a Feminist Fairy Tale
A family living in the countryside has fallen on hard times, thanks to an endless drought that leaves a couple and their young girl on the brink of starvation. So when the Devil comes to call, desperation leads the father to sell his daughter in exchange for unimaginable wealth. As the man's river begins to run with gold, a young girl's story of resilience in the face of hardship begins.
Based on a Grimms' Fairy Tale, The Girl Without Hands is a stylistically inventive animated French feature with a female protagonist who puts Disney princesses to shame. Hand drawn by its creator, director, and illustrator Sébastien Laudenbach, the film's beautiful 2D animation is a freeform, Impressionistic take on fantasy. Its beauty contrasts the film's harsh narrative, about finding a place in the world by taking control of one's fate with admirable conviction.
The Girl Without Hands premiered in the ACID section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the César Awards, and won both the Jury Prize and Best French Film at the Annecy Festival. We caught up with Laudenbach in preparation for the film's upcoming screenings across the US.
Creators: What drew you to this lesser-known fairy tale?
Laudenbach: I immediately loved this tale and the girl's path. The fact that she has to take herself out of a man's world, take time to discover herself, and then go back into that world. That's why it moved me. I think it is a female story, but one that speaks to the female part of everyone, and as a man, I found some steps that I had lived in the girl's trajectory.
To make this film, you diverged from traditional film production. What does that mean?
A classic production means a production with a studio and all the steps a typical animation feature requires: a script, a storyboard, a color board, background and character graphic researchers, a full working crew, and so on.
The first version of this project was like this, but the result would have been totally different. Closed shapes filled with colors, for instance. The project would have been closer to live action, much like most features in animation.
I am very glad this first version wasn't pursued. When I now look at the teaser we made then, I find it unsatisfying and ugly. The Girl Without Hands turned out to be a cheap movie, but I find it rich in terms of graphic and narrative inventiveness. And also free! Free thanks to its poverty!
So you decided to do the film by yourself, which fell in line with an artist residency at the Villa Medici in Rome. What was that like?
I had no producer, no crew... I didn't use the previous script, the storyboard, or graphic design. I improvised the film directly in animation: pencils on paper, from the beginning to the end, following the tale's structure, but opening doors narratively when needed.
For this first year in Italy, I was totally alone and I animated 40 minutes of the film including the backgrounds. The animation was simple: made in black or grey in a very traditional way, 12 frames per second. The colors were made after with a computer.
Aside from the freeform movement on screen, what stood out to me were the colors in the film. Could you speak a bit about that, please?
Everything has been drawn with two tools in order to go fast: a black pencil and a grey one. For one frame, I have several layers. Then I digitized the sheets and applied one color on each layer as a serigraphy.
For this step, I worked with other people. When you work with animation you are, by nature, far from reality. I am not interested in copying reality, and so the colors reflect a feeling, a mood. That's why my trees are not green with a brown trunk, but blue, red, or violet. My inspiration came from the Nabis group of French painters, like Maurice Denis or Pierre Bonnard. More than the Impressionists, they had a kind of spirituality in their paintings.
Do you think the importance of drawing has been lost in current animation, and indeed, our ever digitalized landscape?
Yes, I definitely think that! Drawing is very powerful. Maybe the essence of cinema is to bring faces to a big screen. The power and the presence of a big face is huge. You can feel the skin breathe, and the micro-movements of the eyes is something that you know so deeply that you can feel a lot of nuances in one second. When you work in animation, you have no face, you have no body, you have only a representation of that.
That is the weakness and the strength of animation. It is a strength because this distance between reality and representation creates poetry. That's what animation, and art in general, teaches to us: taking distance from reality to tell it better.
The Girl Without Hands is currently playing at IFC Center in New York and begins showing at Laemmle Music Hall in LA on August 4. To find a theater near you, click here.
