Hey you! Can you share your favorite headcannons for what type of bender certain BNHA characters would be in the ATLA universe?

Any characters, dealer’s choice 🙌 If this leads into more info on your ATLA AU I would love to hear all of it! 🙃

OK SO the specific au i came up with doesn’t include any of the kids except shinsou, eri, and tenya (as of right now) and it’s set during the 100 yr war (beginning just after the start of book 1) so these hcs might be considered kind of boring haha and i also mentioned some of these already on my discord but:

Shouta Aizawa - nonbender exceptionally skilled in hand to hand, chi blocking, and knives Hizashi Yamada - firebender (skilled fighter and bender and he can firebreathe! oh boy!) Oboro Shirakumo - earthbender (also dead in my au rip) Nemuri Kayama - nonbender moderately skilled in hand to hand and extremely skilled in seduction/smoothing-talking of course (usually she can just avoid a fight by talking her way out of things) Tensei Iida - earthbender (classically trained bender) Tenya Iida - earthbender (raised and taught by tenya) Emi Fukukado - nonbender, extremely skilled in poisons (and medicines) and is also very good at hand to hand (entirely self-taught) Hitoshi Shinsou - nonbender (aizawa’s student) Eri - firebender (prodigy, wields blue flame, great power but lacks control, hizashi’s student)

i am literally vibrating with excitement about this because i think my ideas are incredibly cool and i hope you think so too anyway i love feedback so if you or anyone else wants to ask about or suggest things for this au please feel free ??

🙂 Anne of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables #6) (L.M. Montgomery, author; Barbara Barnes, narrator) - it did warm my completionist heart to bring the series to a close. I absolutely did love that they had a giant cat they named The Shrimp. And I was left a little breathless at the very end by the casually dropped info that Anne’s 2nd son will die in WWI.

The OG-Aary in his usual clothes here in our world. He likes the button-up with a pocket because he can let Aarapod sit comfortably inside the pocket.

The Fallen Star-My comic project I’m working on where there aren’t elves in the mix. It’s just dragons vs humans, with the story going in a very different direction from the source material. In the West the setting is modern day, in the East the lands are still magical. Also Aaravos is the antihero protagonist, not one of the villains.

Avatar: The Secret Bender-An AU I’m working on with my best friend. Aaravos is an Earthbender and the Avatar. The cycle was somehow messed up, with the next Avatar being an Earthbender and not an Airbender like he was supposed to be.

It’s the show, Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with mostly the The Dragon Prince cast with some OCs and s/i’s (Meg included) instead of characters from ATLA, and with tweaks and major changes to the plot to fit the AU. (Though to be fair…”too pure” isn’t the best description even here. lol It IS still Aaravos, after all. He still has the same personality, just got dealt a different hand, and made different life-choices/friends.)

Snake Charmer-Naga!Aary (part humanoid, part snake) for a oneshot on my adults-only side blog. Not much to say about this one except this Aaravos…has the least healthy relationship with Me/g of any of them, at least at first. Kind of a Beauty and the Beast formula but more adult.

Disney’s Atlantis AU-Self explanatory. It’s Atlantis but with TDP characters plus Me/g. You can read more about it here.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild AU-Takes place before Link wakes up. Meg is a field researcher studying monsters and Guardians to create a guide on how to survive against them. Aaravos was hired by her when he expressed interest in the job of being her protection on her research trip…but it’s later revealed he is the true leader and founder of the Yiga Clan. Revealing also that things are not as black-and-white as the Shiekah and Royal Family would have you believe…

Bloodhound Oaths-Arranged marriage/vampire AU prompt I got a long time ago. Aaravos is the mysterious, powerful Vampire King. King of monsters basically. Me/g is a princess being groomed for marriage for political purposes. She is given to Aaravos as his bride to unite the human and monster kingdoms for land and strengthening forces against a common enemy. In the process Meg learns through her husband and his people to stand on her own more…and that she really needs glasses it turns out.

(ATLA AU Ask #2) WOW I agree on all levels - Aizawa knowing the art of chi blocking is SO fitting and I love the fact that Yamada would be a skilled fire-breather (when thinking of the breath control a voice quirk requires). Ugh also if he has a badass nickname like Iroh did, like the Golden Dragon or some shit, I’d lose it.

And Nemuri being a nonbender from the northern water tribe, YES. I could see, if there were OCs, her having waterbender siblings who she maybe felt inferior to/was compared to, but with her conniving nature she’s actually just as, if not more than, competent.

I kinda like to HC Oboro as an air nomad just cause I think it’s fun in connection to his quirk in the BNHA universe and the idea of him having a sky bison named Loud Cloud makes me smile lol Tho I think he’d be a bit rogue about living by traditional monastic standards (BUT I don’t know your exact plot and I think what happened to the air nomads is so specific that if it doesn’t fit into the timeline then it’s impossible to include).

so my au’s timeline follows the atla canon (book 1-3, give or take some) so yeah unless i switched the setting and a) went precanon, b) went post unlocked airbenders, or c) diverged from the atla/lok canon entirely then yeah no airbender oboro in this au 😔 and while i know it’s not as popular,,,, i still really like earthebender oboro 🥺🥺

i really like what lev (@eraserdyke) said on discord about it  “oboro is a constant pillar of support to his friends and helps them to grow and gain confidence in themselves“ and basically that’s another bit of solid reasoning why the earth element could fit him fairly if not really well

and lastly, exactly!!! i liked the idea of chi blocking being a parallel to erasure and the same goes for firebreathing and hizashi’s quirk. in general, i think firebending really suits him because of the precise emotional and physical control required to master it!

Emi and Nemuri bonding over both being nonbenders - plus Emi charming people with her charisma/jokes while Nemuri tricks them with seduction/coyness? They are a POWER COUPLE‼️‼️

YES TO ALL THE ANGST and the fact that Eri and Hitoshi will be there and angsty emic need to focus on their protégés? YES

Hmm idk how Mirio could end up fitting in... would he be a bender? Maybe a caretaker of Eri’s who dies trying to get her out with Hizashi? 🤔

Eri having extreme emotions due to trauma/ PTSD thus problems controlling her bending? OUCH but I’m sure Hizashi will be a good teacher.

And yeeessssss🤭 a Nomu!EraserMic fic where Eraser and Mic are Nomu and Loud Cloud is a pro-hero/teacher at UA with Midnight. Fic opens with them discussing Eraserhead with Nezu, All Might, and others because an incident causes them to think Eraserhead could be their ‘dead’ friend, Aizawa Shouta.

But before they can even get too far into theorizing, an injured Eraserhead shows up on their doorstep - but he has no memories of being either Eraserhead or Aizawa. He just keeps having flashbacks about a blonde man... 😏

so i went to sleep but apparently, it was just a nap 🙄so it’s after 2am and im back, here we go!

power couple jokenight INDEED like they hit it off right away, like god nemuri prolly sees emi at a tavern or some shit, she’s making stupid jokes while pickpocketing several drunk men, and nemuri’s like fuck, i gotta have her i personally hc nemuri as aropan and emi as a lesbian so they’re not necessarily in love perse but they care deeply for each other and have an intimate physical relationship. 

eri and hitoshi are like, so are we kind of siblings now? and emic are like NO while fucking blushing and glaring at each other and the kids are like uh huh...nothing weird about that at all

ok so with mirio....i had an idea for how he might become connected to the situation but idk how i feel about it and since his connection to the story would be thru hizashi (whose backstory i still have yet to hammer out as i’m work outward in to emic who would be at the center of the story) i’m not quite there on figuring him out yet lol, we’ll see, but if does get included he will definitely die trying to help save eri 😔

Ah! I had no idea Oboro was an earth sign - fitting and ironic it sounds like 🥺 also, I agree that taking away any thought-influence from his quirk in BNHA, his nature is more aligned with that of an earth bender - I also think that bending style fits him way more than an air bending style. He reminds me a little of Bolin xD

I could probably send you 50 million asks about this because I also just watched all of ATLA and LOK (but it wasn’t a re-watch, it was my first time through... I know, wtf took me so long?! Lol) but so I’ve had fresh AU ideas in my head that I didn’t think I’d ever write. The ATLA universe is just so interesting!

Just to name one, and there’s no context or thought beyond this sentence, I cannot escape the thought of an AU where Hizashi is essentially Varrick and Shouta is Zhu Li (uhm especially because I still haven’t read the books for after the animated series but I do know that Zhu Li goes on to become the FRICKIN PRESIDENT)

Anyways, pls feel free to tell me to shut it at anytime lmao I’m just so excited, I love these concepts!!!

yeah ok so i have stain pegged as an “alleged” bloodbender (he totally is tho) who targets and kills the iida bros parents but basically, stain’s motivation would be the same as canon stain’s. the same type of ideology about hero society but applied to the wealthy who can afford to turn a blind eye to the 100 year war. so stain is pretty much a violent robin hood type in the iida bros backstory, i haven’t decided if he shows up again or not 🤔

and yeah found family is so 🥺🥰 srsly my favorite thing ever. in my au hizashi is the one who rescues eri and nemuri+emi bring shinsou to aizawa.

UH WELCOME TO THE CLUB yesss i love love LOVE the atla universe like, atla was my first ever serious interest/fixation and every few years i just come back into full swing. i didn’t watch lok when it was airing so i watched it a few months ago when it came out on netflix and varrick and zhu li are probably in my top ten if not five favorite characters 🥺 they’re great

*busts in the door* I’m BACK (ATLA AU Ask #3) Ooooooooo yesss I like the Stain idea - I feel like he could also parallel to Jet & the Freedom Fighters in ATLA, like maybe Spinner, Moonfish, and Muscular could join Stain forming their own rogue group and they’re a cruel Robin Hood gang who don’t care how their disdain for the rich affects others. You could always bring them in as a stand-alone issue for the gang and then reveal that Stain had a hand in the Iida bros parents’ deaths? Just spitballing, GAH the potentials are endless!

Can I look forward to some JokeNight or EraserMic? 😏 I’m also very interested in Eri’s heritage... I’m wondering if that’s going to be an interesting plot point since she’s such a powerful fire bender? Hmmmm? *puts on detective hat* if you don’t wanna spoil too much, feel free not to comment!

Srsly I will talk about an ATLA AU all day 😂 maybe I will start on an EraserMic AU with them fulfilling the roles of Varrick and Zhu Li - just not sure at all about the plot. I’ll have to come up with some original scenes first and see where it gets me 🤔 I have a reverse Nomu EraserMic AU that I have bits and pieces written of (and my posted WIP The Disconnect) that I soooo need to finish first heh

ALRIGHT SO 🧐eri’s backstory is pretty much in line with her canon backstory 😔i mentioned she’s a firebending prodigy right? she wields Extreme power but lacks any sort of control because she’s a child lol but she especially lacks good guidance and healthy outlets after kai chisaki becomes her guardian basically, chisaki is still a child abusing motherfucker but instead of a whole group takedown like in canon, it’s more like hizashi rescuing her from the inside 👀and then running away with her to [relative] safety

i’m contemplating have mirio helping in some way as well but then killing him off as a stand-in for getting his quirk vanished jkhgfdfhgj why am i horrible sorry tintin my boy

plot is hard but the concept of a varrick zhu li erasermic au is splendid also....reverse nomu.. 👀 i would love to hear moreth
