I love most Ologies episodes but oh my god do I hate it when Alie interviews an old dude who keeps interrupting her and doesn't follow social cues at all

Hellooo Jim,
I listened to this episode a few days ago! i try to keep up with it as episodes come out! I’m going to answer like Alie did in the podcast, without cutting or trimming, just whatever comes out.
Ask game based on Ologies Podcast AMA episode
10. Holidays, which are great and which need to go?
Uhh. I don’t really know what holidays there really are besides like thanksgiving, christmas, new years. The US has a few patriotic holidays that i truly don’t care for, so get rid of those (but i still want the paid days off). Thanksgiving— the idea of getting together and eating is fun. The history behind it, get rid of it. trash it. Keep Thanksgiving idea, throw away the history, celebrate the Native American Culture instead.
13. What is a book that you’ve read over and over?
specifically talking about books, not fics-
I’m not a big fan of rereading cause i know what’s coming up, and i get impatient haha I’ve reread Fourth Wing, and Iron Flame just because i felt like i missed a bunch of details. Ooh actually now that i’m typing this, Sierra Simone’s Priest series is one i can read over and over again. Currently, audiobooking Saint at work. MM, slowburn, forbidden love. A gay monk-in-training wearing a chastity cage as “punishment” but it’s actually for kink as he tries to leave his party life behind him (especially his ex) but it all comes back to bite him in the dic- butt. in the butt. Anyways, yes! that series is one that i can re-read (and im slowly working on rereading).
15 What’s your go to type of music if you’re looking for an energy boost?
It honestly depends on the mood and what i’m doing. Let’s say i have to do schoolwork, and it’s late at night, I’ll go with like some Dutch Techno, or techno in general. Sometimes i’ll go with hispanic bangers. Pepas- Farruko is my ultimate hype song or some Bizarrap.
Honestly, sometimes it’s classical music, or like indie. It just depends on the mood. I’m lying in bed, exhausted from work, and to get the energy to type this i’m listening to softcars by yeule, something lowkey and mellow. (10/10 recommend)
25 If you were a mythical creature what would you be?
If i was a mythical creature id be a kraken 🐙 (is this surprising? shouldn’t be haha) or Oni. Oni are a type of yōkai (demon) in japanese folklore. They’re known for superhuman strength and have been associated with having powers such as thunder and lightning. They’re portrayed as having one or more horns growing out of their heads, massive teeth and occasionally a third eye in the center of the forehead. in trying to find a picture of an oni, i came across this article that reads:
Recently, there have been some excellent stories about oni, depicting them as creatures who only want a bit of company.
and, like, that’s so me. i want it be an Oni cause it sounds fun, they cool, get to cause chaos (my favorite thing to do) and i also love japanese culture. Picture below

I'd fallen asleep with the light on and woke up two hours later, panicking about other people. Did I cross a boundary by hugging that person two months ago? Is someone mad at work because I was more lenient toward someone else? When someone publicly praised me and didn't mention other people who equally deserve praise, did I handle it badly? Does everyone resent me?
Earlier, in the office alone while stuffing envelopes, I listened to most of the Ologies podcast episode on Quasithanatology. It shifted my perspective. I started thinking about witchcraft, which at one time I thought I would practice but it never settled right. I thought about nature, and the universe, and the feeling that sometimes we really can feel what other people are feeling because we're all connected.
And then I tried reading a chapter of I, Robot and fell asleep with the light on, then got up and watched The Green Knight.
I didn't know this was a Christmas movie.
Tumblr media
This was like a scene out of Shadow of the Colossus. This is when I started getting interested, when the confinements of the city spread out into the vastness of nature.
He's moving out of the red, into the green.
I especially loved that speech, where red is emotion and green is rot. And everything is connected.
This is one of those times when I feel like the universe is trying to tell me something. Or maybe listening to an existential podcast episode put me in the mood to seek out a film I knew would be existential. I like it very much.
Tomorrow I'll be alone in the office again, and there will be more envelopes to stuff.

If you are a vampire fiction fan, a folklore nerd, or have gotten caught up in the dracula daily fun, PLEASE listen to the two part vampires episode of the Ologies podcast from last October. The guest is a professor who teaches a class on vampires in folklore and fiction and it’s such an outstanding and informative interview I’ve listened to it several times.

Extremely funny and interesting episode of a typically science heavy episode. I like how Alie immediately fact checks the full moon stats when some fact checkable statement first drops, and then by the end of the episode she doesn't attempt this for every statement that could be further scrutinized. It's very refreshing to hear an objective and curious person with a strong science background meet a witch -- as an electrical engineer who got to know a few pagans in college I found it very relatable to the first time I smoked weed with a witch and asked all about her practice. I wasn't very good at engaging with people that have complicated relationships with spirituality until LSD helped make me more curious about both that and people's silly little inner worlds. To me, witches tend to have the most fun and interesting ones to learn about.
I'm very excited to talk about this one with my colleagues who listen to the show.

i love ologies because from the episodes i’ve listened to, the guests on the show are usually like “yeah i’ve always had an interest in this thing i’m now pursuing professionally”. our younger selves are perhaps the most in-tune version of ourselves and we should look to them when we’re lost.

Just listened to this episode of Ologies discussing the field of Critical Ecology with its founder Dr. Suzanne Pierre
https://www.alieward.com/ologies/criticalecology
One cool point mentioned was the difference between Environmental Justice and Critical Ecology.
According to Dr. Pierre EJ is more focused on solving and addressing currently occurring issues of injustice, typically on a smaller scale (ie. how to fix current disparities in health outcomes based on segregation).
In contrast CE is working to better understand the root causes of large scale issues and how that impacts the environment (ie. lasting impact of plantation slavery on the soil)

3 Have you always been this amazing or did this develop over time?
i have never been amazing haha i was always the forgotten kid in school, the one no one wanted to be friends with so i definitely wasn’t amazing when i was i kid, i don’t think im amazing now either so like idk 🤷🏻‍♀️
9 What is your favourite cryptid?
sirens and the chupacabra. being from farmland mexico, i 100% the chupacabra is out there and he killed my favorite goat. 😭 hes oddly my favorite. He’s just a funky thing out there. Sirens luring men to death, hell yeah. idk i think it’s cool 😂
