X-Whips(Battle Network AU) NetNavis 2/2

Ever since the MegaMan Battle Network Legacy Collection came out and I've been playing it, I've had NetNavis on the brain, so I decided to try reinterpreting some MegaMan characters from across the Robotics timeline(Classic->X->Zero->ZX->Legends) into NetNavis for the X-Whips.

Headcanon - How X and Zero get together

This is more of an in-depth headcanon of X and Zero’s reasons why they won’t tell each other how they feel and the situations they’re both in during X4, and it leading up to when they confessed- kinda.

UNDER “READ MORE” IS SPOILERS!! If you don’t wanna be spoiled, just move along :P. If you do want to, I hope you enjoy this~. It’s another long one, though. Like- WAAAAAY SUPER LONG. Possibly longer than the flower headcanons. So be prepared once again~

X’s Perspective

Let’s go over X’s perspective first. Since this is “Megaman X” after all, and X deserves a little more love than for what he got in canon for X4.

X realized he was in love with Zero in the previous installment, X3. Even if he noticed that Zero called him “Blue Jay” more often, he thought it was more a best friend endearment. Not realizing Zero felt the same before (which we’ll get to soon). X had crushed on him before, and thought that it would pass. But at that point? It felt like he was really in love. He couldn’t stop thinking about Zero. His heroism, his bravery, his compassion, his loyalty, his determination, his ability to learn. Everything that made Zero to what he is now, made him feel special to the Neo Blue Bomber. He was indirectly taught to fight whenever he needed to, despite his pacifistic tendencies. He eased X of his anxieties, and stuck with him when no one else would. When Maverickism slowly took their friends one by one. Whether it was from a virus, or by their own means from ideals changing within Reploids.

The Repliforce Incident showed proof the Virus wasn’t the only thing that was capable of Maverickism to be caused.

Throughout the incident, which lasted months, X felt his feelings for Zero only grow stronger. So he decided to distance himself from his best friend. The reason why he distanced himself was because not only was he in a relationship already, but he felt Zero would think his feelings were silly. How his love for him was silly. X felt he’d be rejected. Especially with Iris and Zero bonding as time went on, or what it seemed to him was bonding. He stayed away even further, and assumed Iris and Zero were dating already, when that’s far from the truth.

Those long months of not speaking to Zero were hard, and the only times he ever did was when they ran into each other. Those talks were small, short, X not wanting to talk about his feelings more and more. He bottled it all up. Not telling a soul about how he truly feels about Zero. Especially after what happened after X1 and only getting him back 6 months later. Those thoughts about getting him back after that was brutal enough for him as it is, and dealing with the betrayal from Double made everything worse. At least he’s dealt with quickly, despite the fact Double meant business.

Shortly thereafter, X finally was able to tell someone about his feelings to Zero. To Iris. His bottled up feelings he’d held in for months had finally been released, and he had a huge, immense breakdown, letting all his tears out from the frustration and fear of rejection. Iris told him to tell Zero, whether he would be rejected or not, and she had faith Zero wouldn’t. He’d broken up with his significant other, that one being Marty, and set out to see how he would tell Zero how he truly feels for him.

About Iris, however, we’ll also get to that but for now- we get to Zero’s perspective

Zero’s Perspective

As mentioned earlier, Zero’s endearment nickname to X had been established as “Blue Jay”. X may have been the first to crush on him, and Zero to follow after- but Zero never realized at first that he had fallen in love with X.

And then the nightmares start hitting him like a truck. Having dreams of Wily show up, flashes of when he woke up and flashes of the aftermath. Blood on his hands, and then him remembering X finding him and saving his life. He was getting them every night, and it weighed a lot on his shoulders. The incident with Repliforce didn’t help matters either, and he noticed X distancing himself from him as time passed.

He tried talking to him, but their talks were small and that disappointed the Midnight Ripper.

He did bond more with Iris but he really did want to see what these feelings really meant, so he went to Dr. Cain, just like old times. He then realized he really was in love with X. Not a mere crush like it was with Storm Eagle or Spiral Pegasus. This was a feeling of fondness and endearment for X that would never go away. 

Zero then evaluated his memories of X and his feelings. He felt the strong bond between them, and how compassionate and sweet X was to him. He stayed with him when he was being examined by Medics and didn’t like being touched, he trusted only X. X let them be friends, plus showing his gratitude to him for saving Zero. X showed worry towards Zero, and felt relieved when he came back after the X-Hunters incident, and prayed that’d never happen again. Crying in the Midnight Ripper’s arms, glad he’s okay. Zero felt X’s potential and power becoming stronger, and by this point, it’s grown over Zero’s power. The Midnight Ripper then smiled, proud his Blue Jay made it as far as he had come. Dr. Cain confirmed it, and Zero needed time to think about it before telling X.

Now, onto Iris. He was bonding with Iris quite nicely when X stayed away, and after thinking about it, even with the sleepless nights of horrid dreams with Wily anis missing memories of his past, he then had a fear creep into his mind. What if his feelings ruined their friendship, despite that X may return them or not? He’s reluctant, thus wanting to think about it more.

One day on a park stroll with Iris, he found she crushed on him. She thought her feelings for love were sure, but after Zero telling her someone else had stolen his heart, and he didn’t have feelings for females in particular on top of that, Iris felt heartbroken, but tried to stick with Zero being happy with that someone else. Zero hinted at it, but she figured it out right away to be X. Who else would it be? Who else was closer to Zero than anyone else? X. Despite the fact he’s been inching away from him and keeping his distance, she figured it was definitely because X was in love with Zero back.

Zero tried telling X that he noticed being avoided, but the Neo Blue Bomber didn’t want to talk about it. Zero faints outside X’s room, both Iris and X witnessing it happen, he is rushed to Medical, carried by X. Realizing it was of exhaustion.

Zero then wakes up, realizing X isn’t with him, but X comes back and rushes to his side. That time before was when Iris and X talked. X offered for Zero to rest in his room, and Zero had a peaceful sleep he hadn’t had for months. Knowing how they feel about each other, they had to wait for that time to come.

And that’s when they’d tell each other later, even in a dire situation, and their feelings to each other were obviously mutual.
