got done watching the four episode mini series. i know for some people the finale would take many points away from the drama cuz of the final reveal and how it all ended. but I enjoyed it. I think it’s a classic Mehreen Jabbar venture. if you see the stories MJ chooses to tell via her directorial lens, they are rarely not a study of human nature. at the core of her stories we only find human beings as they are meant to be - defying definitions. the characters’ Mehreen makes the center of her stories cannot be explained away with a neatly written description. they change the shade based on which angle you see them from. Jurm was well aware of this human nature as well as the human’s desire to to find sensationalism in a story. for three episodes it played on this idea, both in canon and on a meta level, that the actual truth is supposed to be this utterly mind boggling mystery getting to the bottom of which is the test of our wits and integrity. the finale dashes all those intentions and lays out the facts for us in such a...mundane manner that the viewer finds themselves scratching their heads. “oh, is this all it was?” cuz Jurm doesn’t aim to surprise you by pulling out a big trick from under the hat. no, Jurm’s intention is to pull out the mirror and show you, the viewer, your own excited face as your eyes remained glued to the screen waiting for some grand revelation about the evilness of that rare person who masterfully orchestrated a terrible crime. to show you your face when you realize that this isn’t a story to vindicate you that you could neverrrr be one of the evil ones; instead it is a story to remind you that you aren’t the special one here. the mujrim is you as well, just as the mujrim in the show.

that being said - THE PLOT TWIST IT PULLED WITH SHAHANA HAD ME SCREAMING!!!! WOMAN! GLORIOUS WOMAN!!!! I WAS ON MY KNEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!

The show is a six-part web series that will premiere at the 14th annual Chicago South-Asian Film Festival on September 23, 2023.  Directed by New York-based, Pakistani television and film director Mehreen Jabbar, the series also stars Mariam Saleem of Ek Jhoothi Love Story fame and Maha Hasan.  As per the official poster for the series that was unveiled recently, the two will fulfill leading roles alongside Gilani. Farar was created in collaboration with producers Umnia Iftikhar, credited for producing the short film The Desert Journey, and Shailja Kejriwal who is the chief creative officer of special projects at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.  Not much has been revealed about the storyline, with just a short synopsis informing potential viewers that the series will revolve around the friendship between the three main female characters and their navigation through life’s various challenges.  The series will give us an insight into the lives of widowed hairdresser Sabrina as she struggles with the difficulties of being in a complicated relationship, aspiring actor Tanya as she grapples with her body-image issues, and ambitious track and field runner Huma as she resists societal pressures to get married.  We can expect their individual tales to intertwine at different points throughout the course of the drama series, delving into possible themes of heartbreak, grief, love, sisterhood, empowerment, and so much more against the hustling and bustling backdrop of one of Pakistan's biggest metropolitan cities, Karachi.  After riding the towering wave of success of Joyland receiving a standing ovation and winning a jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the film being shortlisted for the Oscars, Gilani is starring in yet another project that is bound to attract international audiences and wide-reaching appreciation, especially across India and Pakistan.  “As an actor, being part of Farar has been an incredible journey of exploration and dedication. This show is not just a story for us; it’s a piece of our souls, a representation of the rich emotions that connect us as humans,” shared Gilani on her experience of working on the much-awaited web series. A little mistake can go a long way. A warm film that leaves you cozy.

The various characters had equally captivating stories to tell.

This little guy put up a good show.

Mehreen Jabbar did a great job as a director. I think women have the innate quality to do things in a way that touches the heart.

Apart from the lead, this was my favorite character. The character lets her kindness take over her caste prejudices.

Overall, it was one ♡ of a film.

All four of these talented individuals are part of this year’s Pakistani Academy Selection Committee (PASC) that is set to choose Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category.PASC Chairman Mohammed Ali Naqvi has officially announced the names of the star-studded committee. Naqvi himself is no stranger to talent, having stepped into the role of PASC chairman this year as a talented filmmaker, succeeding Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the previous chair of the PASC.The PASC is responsible for selecting Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. The PASC 2023 comprises some of Pakistan’s finest talent, including Fatima Bhutto — acclaimed author, commentator, and an advocate and activist. In an Instagram post, Bhutto posted about her PASC membership: “Am really happy to join this year’s Oscar committee and proud of the quality of films we are producing..... hope the world will see much more work from Pakistan.”Known as Pakistan’s biggest male actor, Fawad Khan is also part of the committee, adding glamour but also considerable international work experience in Bollywood and the West. Khan’s The Legend of Maula Jatt is the most memorable film he has done recently. The Legend of Maula Jatt’s award-winning director and cinematographer Bilal Lashari is also among the PASC members for this year. The Legend of Maula Jatt was produced under the joint venture of Encyclomedia and Lashari films, with Geo Films as the exhibiting partner. Released in 2022, The Legend of Maula Jatt became a roaring success, managing to create history for Pakistan’s film industry.Last year’s official entry for the Best International Feature at the Oscars was Joyland. The film’s director Saim Sadiq — who has had the distinction of getting a Cannes award for his film — too joins the PASC committee this year. Another award-winning director Mehreen Jabbar, known both for her films but also for her substantial work in TV, will also be part of the Oscar selection committee.Also joining the PASC 2023 is the versatile Ahmed Ali Akbar, of Lal Kabootar and Paizaad fame, along with veteran actor Nadia Afghan. Event director and producer Frieha Altaf, and filmmakers Haya Fatom and Madeeha Syed complete the committee members’ list.According to reports in the media, the PASC will be reviewing eligible films over the next month and the official announcement regarding Pakistan’s selection for the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category will be made by October.
