So, some of you might remember that Holocaust denier who was a guest speaker at my Uni back in February.
I found out today that it’s actually going to be on the docket for discussions after our grades are finalized. They were apparently waiting for that so that people (read me) wouldn’t be afraid of academic reprisals.
Prof Yutaka has apparently been up in arms about this behind the scenes ever since it happened but agreed to wait for the academic year to end.

3: What do you consider a big no-no in the fandom?
Well there are lots of things that seem to set people off which could be considered “no-nos,” but I personally don’t really think of most of them that way. I guess if I had to think of one that I’d be against, maybe writing your nation/rep as though they never participated in any bad thing and were always a perfect Enlightened Individual™. It just seems like a way of glossing over history or trying to ignore the bad parts. And if you can’t face that, maybe you shouldn’t be roleplaying a character who’s really tied up in history.
11: Thoughts on political fanart?
Personally I think we could use more of it. But it can sometimes be tricky to pull off. And even though I think it’s important to talk about current/controversial events, and that these characters can make a good platform for it, there is probably a line to watch out for (timing, context, etc.). I would say to at least be knowledgeable on the subject first. I would say try to follow a standard set for other political cartoonists but...maybe actually try to aim for one higher than that.
13: How do you feel about younger people in the fandom?
I’m getting old...How dare you remind me of my approaching mortality.
I think it’s great to have younger people still coming in. It keeps the fandom from dying out, and it shows that Hetalia can be something that reaches across generations. However, younger fans can be...kind of dumb, especially if they’re following the typical tumblr mentality. But, so can the older fans too, so it’s not like age is the only factor here. Regardless of age, I think if a fan makes a mistake but tries to learn from it, then that’s fine. We all have to fail sometimes in order to learn, and we should be supportive of that.
I would just be cautious of shipping and rping certain subjects with younger fans though, obviously.
16: Thoughts on headcanons about a character that defies canon? (i.e; changing a character's gender, race, etc.)
Eeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Why’d you have to send me this one?
I guess it depends on the change and reasons for it. Usually when it comes to other series, I hate hcs that really go against canon, and it’s the reason I don’t interact with other fandoms so much. But Hetalia is weird because it’s loose and comical, but also tied to history. So I guess if you think Hima got something wrong based on historical research you’ve done, then it makes sense to make that change for the character in your mind. But if it’s just for tumblr points or some other arbitrary reason...just go make your own oc.
22: Do you think Hetalia sugar coats/numbs actual historical events?
Um, duh.
I mean, it’s no secret that canon Hetalia will gloss over certain things or just avoid them as much as possible. But honestly, I think it’s good for Hima’s style. He writes a comedic comic, which is very episodic, and tends to just bring up little bits of history that are interesting and he can use. I really don’t think he should use his comic to talk about things like genocides because it just wouldn’t work with the way he’s set his work up. If he had done a much more serious manga that gets into the dirty details of history, then I would expect that. But I think his own comics should probably stay away from some things.
However, I think the fandom can make up for that. We haven’t tied our styles (rp, art, etc.) to anything. Our writing can (and should) be serious and discuss these topics, though obviously it should be done with tact and research, and not just used as a backdrop for ze aaaangst. *flips black bangs and ughs at the world*
Tl;dr. I know this is a weird answer, but to sum it up, Hima should avoid some things, but the fandom should get into them. I wish I could say it more eloquently, but I have to get going soon.

mephistos-faust replied to your post “while researching for the belgium blog, i ofc went to check out...”
[ Out of curiosity; when/if you make a Belgium, do you take the more or less non-existent national identity into consideration and the strong regional bordering national identities especially in the Flanders? I mean, how would you portray that? ]
I want to say that -- yes Belgium has an identity crises and has for a long time -- but as Belgium exists as a nation, despite there not being many who see the country as whole and like to think of her as regions, I think that’s enough to have the muse. I think that so long as Wallonie and Flanders (and to the lesser extent Brussels) are technically part of the country and not independent as they want to be, there will be the nation of Belgium.
I think it comes down to being very stressed and having a ton of headaches, trying to hold herself together so to speak, especially when the regions butt heads. I like to see the regions, and cities usually, as their own beings. So long as there’s some sort of government holding them all together, it shouldn’t be too hard. She would just likely side more with Flanders and Brussels since they’re the stronger ones economically (at least now; Wallonia was powerful for a while) and Wallonia seems to be more in touch with the French and their own dying language/culture.
The most difficult part to me is figuring out a starting point for her age since Belgium “existed” in various states before independence, but most signs point to her being older than the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
tl;dr
Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels are their own beings and if they’re together at least legally, then I don’t see a huge ordeal, just a lot of stress and pressure to figure shit out lmao. There’s a good reason to her alcoholism prob

So, with an American and a German on vacation, you'd think it would be the American who Jay walks. Right? Wrong. This one jay walks *to* a police officer without so much as blinking an eye. And later she just crosses the road at the middle of the block at a diagonal angle, completely ignoring the crosswalk. Germans, much worse than they'd have you believe about jaywalking

➋ Have you ever roleplayed with someone that just left an unforgettable impression on you?
Of course! A few people, really, though most aren’t around anymore. Two who are still on here are @cantuscorvi and @mephistos-faust. Jess because I don’t think I’ve seen another character click so well with my own, and it’s great. (Kind of sad she has to resort to having a demon as a friend though, when you think about it.) Also, Jess is super sweet and just great to talk to regardless of the subject. And Steffi because, well, her Germany is just super spectacular and so well done. Honestly, if I’m going to hc anything about how Lily interacts with a Germany, it’s based on hers unless it has to be for another mun. And then there’s just Steffi’s general knowledge on everything German and I’m pretty sure I learn something new from her almost every time we talk. ^w^ I really admire her.

((/uses everything from the canon - 'my muse differs from canon therefore it is an oc' ))
@mephistos-faust replied to your post  “.”
 [ No that's called: trying to be edgy ; ) ]
((Exactly. Like, just say that your muse is canon divergent. It’s so disrespectful to the creator if you make a muse that’s so clearly inspired by and/or based on a canon character but you claim it as your own, especially if you’re going to use the canon name and canon character’s fanart. Like, Alice is fleshed out like an OC, but only because there’s so little info on the canon character, so as many liberties as I take with her, she’s based on nyo!Eng.land, and I use the character’s last name and appearance as a starting point so therefore she’s not an OC.
Like take a canon character and add on them all you like, put your own unique spin on them, make them different, make a variant of the character if you want, but none of that makes them your OC if they’re based on a pre-existing character.
okay rant over

[ Na, the cool kids use Lauch or Larry. Usually 'Lauch' which is a veggie. Usually Horst is the insult name. Kevin, Justin and Chantalle are more the Hartz IV names and thus they don't have such a good rep. ]
((Larry and Lauch, and Lauch is a vegetable...I feel like there could be a Veggie Tales joke there, but you probably have no idea what that even is.
But now I have more insult names for her to use. :D ))

[ Like imagine Ivan walking around Lud inspecting him with a mix of curiosity and scepticism as he mutters: it seems as though my wish didn't come true. Lud gives him a strange look but before he can ask what's up he sneezes and both just stare, Lud in shock, Ivan amused. Getting a cold = economy getting worse. XD ]
{( ---YAS I LOVE THIS XD
     He’d probably pout a bit like ‘why didn’t it work? France said it would grant wishes’ and he’s absolutely convinced that Lud is just trying to put on a brave face because he probably knows about his wish or something. And then that absolutely thrilled, childish look he would have if Lud got a cold--like oh my god, it would be Christmas early for him. xD He would probably try and find another one of those little trinkets to make another wish. )}

[ Imagine Alice yelling at Lud: YOU seduced my king with your Nazi shit and now he's crazy and I so hope for you he's going to abduct because I won't become your ally! ; ) ]
((Pffffft I imagine that went down in the form of a very coldly-worded letter, a little reminder that the King is the ceremonial head of state and has no significant powers in running the government, so Ludwig had best not get excited about the complacency Edward displayed towards the F.ührer .
Especially as the more pressing issue with Edward wasn’t so much how he didn’t care about government and the state of the world, but his girlfriend, and I can’t see Alice running her mouth about that ^^
