#mer dna is weird in my hcs

Some quick MerMay HCs for Sun and Moon bc I managed to have a decently good day in what feels like forever and scrounged together the energy to write these. It's a little long, sorry.

MerMay/Mer!AU Moondrop/Sundrop HCs:

⭐Both of them are Octomaids (Octopi-Mermaid). Moon is a variant of a mixed blue-ring/Mimic octopi, but with the colors inversed (yellow rings on blue skin). His tentacles have retractable barbs filled with a paralyzing agent that he uses to keep his prey from escaping.

⭐Like an octopus, Moon is very intelligent, curious, playful, and loves to squeeze his way into tight/small spaces. He's also very clingy and will hang all over you once he gets attached. When he wants to be held/petted, he will be.

⭐Also like octopi, he has the ability to camouflage himself as other creatures. More specifically, his tentacles can fit together to appear as a normal mer's tail, tailfin and all.

⭐On that note, Moon is slightly cannibalistic. He can, and will, prey on smaller/weaker mer who fall for his "mer" camo. It's only once the tentacles separate back into singular parts that they realize their mistake--but by that point, it's too late.

⭐Sun is a variant of a mixed clownfish-pattern/Mimic octopi. The clownfish pattern isn't natural, but he chooses to keep the colors because he feels they makes him look brighter and more approachable.

⭐Sun's "head rays" double as feelers, and can move independently of the rest of him. They're very soft, flimsy, and sensitive. He uses them as lures to trick fish/crabs/other small prey into getting close enough for him to catch.

⭐Both Moon and Sun can echo human speech to a point. Usually small strings of words, or singular words that they like to repeat. Sometimes they understand what the words mean, through the body language associated with it, sometimes they just like how it feels or sounds.

⭐Obviously, Sun is more active during the day and Moon is more nocturnal. Sun is also more social while Moon is more reclusive, but both are equally clingy (and jealous) once they've bonded with you. They both like to gift you with "shinies" and trinkets they think you'll like (which is usually trash they've found floating around).
