Summary: Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away from here, lived a sweet and beautiful princess. One day, she saved the life of one of the sworn enemies of her people, a young mermaid with mesmerizing green eyes. How could she have known that this fortuitous encounter would change both their lives forever?

Chapter 1: Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, on an island far away from here, lived a kind king and queen. No one could remember how and when their people had settled there. Yet, they had. And after several generations, the kingdom of Arkadia was thriving.

Eight years before, Queen Abigail had given birth to a beautiful little girl. With flaxen hair and eyes bluer than the sea, the princess was her parents’ pride and joy. The kindness of her heart was unmatched, and the happy child was loved by all who had met her.

After years of unsuccessful attempts, the queen was, at last, pregnant once more. Princess Clarke could hardly contain her excitement at the thought that she would soon be a big sister. All in all, life was good, and the Arkadians wanted for nothing.

The fly in the ointment, however, were the creatures that inhabited the sea surrounding the kingdom. At first, few incidents had been reported between the mermaids and the Arkadians. Alas, as the island prospered and more ships began to thread the waters, the relationship between the two species worsened. Before long, war broke out, and many vessels never returned to the harbor.

On a beautiful summer afternoon, Clarke was left to her own devices. As the queen, soon to give birth, required more attention from the servants, the princess was free to explore the palace. The guards watched her as she passed by, but none bothered her. The royal family was well-loved, and, apart from the sea creatures, no danger threatened the life of the island’s inhabitants.

Tired as she was of roaming through the same corridors every day, Clarke wished for a change of scenery. The weather was beautiful, and the sweet breeze coming from the open sea called at her. She hurried out of her home with light steps and climbed down the stone stairs leading outside. She did not stop until she was standing in front of the salty water.

Despite the dangers that she knew resided under, the sea was enchanting. With the sunlight, it seemed to glisten. Millions of diamonds danced up and down as far as she could see. Small waves came licking at the earth before drawing back, the tides as eternal as the moon commanding them.

Clarke remained there, her feet buried in the sand, her eyes taking it all in. She had found herself by the cove nearing the palace. To her left, she could see the harbor and hear the many shouts and sounds accompanying any human activity. Ships of various sizes entered and exited, although most were moored. To her right, the small gap leading to the open sea was well-guarded.

The eight-year-old was about to turn around and return home when something caught her attention.

On one side, among half-submerged rocks, a shape moved. At first, Clarke assumed that it was a large fish. However, as she walked closer, surprise and then fear flooded her veins. A mermaid, one of their sworn enemies, lurked in the water less than a few meters away from the shore.

The deck roils and bucks under their feet as they move in a slow trio towards the quarterdeck, Octavia keeping a tight grasp of Clarke and Raven as they trudge forward bent in half against the relentless gusts of icy, driving rain. They are almost at the bottom of the closest step when a heart-stopping crack rings out through the dim of noise, sailors freezing where they stood as they looked around frantically. Clarke has seconds to react as an untethered sail comes crashing towards them, Aden frantically yelling in warning as a jib sail snaps its rigging, slamming into the main mast before flipping through the air and heading directly towards them. 

His warning yell is still echoing in her ears as she takes half a step to shove Raven and Octavia away from her, staging backwards as the force of the rain -soaked sail and its wind powered momentum knocks her feet and over the rail of the ship into the dark, tempestuous waves. Raven screaming her name is the last thing Clarke hears as she hits the water, a searing pain exploding across her temple.

Blackness overtakes her vision quickly as she struggles to stay afloat, gasping as she is pulled down by the icy water, dazedly trying to swim away so she isn’t sucked under the boat’s massive hull. 

The water is too dark, too choppy to notice the sleek head that pops out of the water, mere feet from where Clarke is slowly starting to sink under the three meter high waves.

Newsies!Anon here coming at you again with another idea (I had so much fun discussing the Newsies idea with you!). This time I was pulling out my old Disney playlist and I was thinking of a Clarke and Lexa Little Mermaid AU. I think Lexa in this instance would be Eric and Clarke would be Ariel. Although the characters would be a bit different. I don’t think Clarke is quite as naïve as Ariel. But I was imagining a story where Nia is Ursula and tries to use Clarke to get to Lexa. And Abby is Tritan, the overprotective parent who eventually pushes Clarke to make a drastic decision and pursue her own life. Titus would be like Grimsby (or whatever his name was), always pushing Lexa to do her duty. I imagine Lexa getting caught up in a storm at sea and Clarke saving her and Lexa just instant becoming infatuated but not knowing who Clarke is she can’t find her. And then Clarke magically washes up on shore.

how absolutely seethingly livid Clarke would be at finding out she’s lost her voice?

I am historically not a huge fan of The Little Mermaid (truly nothing in that era of Disney can compete with Hercules in my book) but this is so worth it just to think about Clarke raging against the machine when she opens her mouth and finds her voice gone. She’d mermaid-kick Nia’s door down.

Here we have Clarke Griffin, the hard-headed, opinionated, and fiercely independent daughter of the mer-monarch, who thinks this isolationist policy her mother’s had in effect (and her mother’s mother, and her mother’s mother’s mother) is ridiculous; they know the surface world exists and they know the people up there could use their help. It’s stupid to stay hidden. Of course, no one in Abby’s court is interested in hearing her theories on surface-world diplomacy no matter how hard she tries - so imagine her surprise (the convenience!) when she happens across a shipwrecked surface-world princess in desperate need of her assistance.

Of course, she can’t establish diplomatic relations in her current form without giving up the existence of her entire society (she also has absolutely no idea that the reason Princess Lexa, in her billowing Fabio-shirt and tight pants, is hanging around has nothing to do with diplomatic relations and everything to do with her being a giant useless lesbian) so she goes to the local sea witch. She doesn’t trust Nia, not by a long shot, but she does know that Nia also wants to establish a connection to the surface world. So she plans out how to approach Nia from a position of strength, covering all her bases and protecting herself from all forms of double-crossing she can think up, and agrees to let Nia use magic to turn her tail into legs. 

But Clarke doesn’t know the intricate ins-and-outs of magic, and so doesn’t realize the spell has an expiration date. She’ll have two week’s time on land to be precisely as she was in the sea, just minus fins and plus legs - just enough time for the lovely, green eyed princess (who has been returning to the shoreline Clarke left her on in the hopes of once more glimpsing her gorgeous rescuer) to fall in love with her. (Cue scenes of Clarke trying to talk politics and Lexa uncontrollably mooning over her, interspersed with scenes of Titus begging Lexa to please, for the love of god, pay attention to this meeting for five minutes you are a princess.) Just enough time for Clarke to suss out whether or not these surface-dwellers can indeed be trusted with the secret of her people’s existence. Aaaand just enough time to establish a convenient position of power for Nia to slip in and take when she disguises herself as Clarke, steals her voice, and sends her back to the sea.

Ooooh, Clarke would be so mad. For someone whose primary weapon is her command of language, losing her voice would be such an affront. Factor in that Nia’s lowkey trying to steal her girl and is also quite likely about to reveal the existence of Abby’s kingdom in exchange for help taking it over, and she might be able to get legs back out of sheer spite. Just so she can march back up that beach and give Nia what-for. Love me a righteously angry Clarke Griffin.

I truthfully don’t know how to resolve this, so I’ll part with the thing I wasn’t going to say but can no longer resist mentioning: good good ocean cleavage.

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?

I have a word doc with ideas/rough plots, and I guess most of them will never reach the outline stage. But a step farther? I wanted to do a Clexa Hospital AU for Clexaweek23 where they were all surgeons in different specialties (very similar to Grey's Anatomy). I picked specialties for the characters and had a rough outline, but I scrapped it because the amount of research required for the cases would have driven me insane 😅

“Lexa,” she called to her attention. Stepping forward, she took her hand and moved into her space. Clarke was quiet as she ran her hands up and down her arms slowly. Taking in a slow breath, she felt the shivers in Lexa’s body. Clarke stopped her hands at the back of her neck as she stood there. “You’re trembling.”

The blonde cupped her cheek gently. “My love, what’s wrong?” She asked softly as she looked over her face. Clarke brushed her thumb against her skin slowly. Leaning in, she pressed her forehead to Lexa’s. “How can I help you?”

She's taken to bringing Clarke with her on vacation just for the fun of it because Clarke spends the entire vacation annoyed at how rich people shit everything is while enjoying everything as long as Lexa is oaying and then taking her frustrations out on Lexa via fucking her.

And of course Lexa is a A grade tease and once she catches Clarke staring at her she'll make sure to be extra ✨️cute✨️ while on the platform and she knows damn well her shape is the only think Clarke can fully make out of her and takes advantage of it to try and call Clarke over like a damn mermaid and Clarke, stupidly and constantly cursing herself over it, will go to her and perhaps take advantage of how little you can make out what's happening on the platform to give Lexa a bit of a punishment for making her come all this way just because she's in a fucking bikini that's barely there in the first place 😏

A long time ago I wrote a headcanon about a modern abo situation where Clarke and Raven were meeting Lexa and Anya’s mom (whomst I think I said was Indra) for the first time and they were super nervous about it.

They were doing a Sunday dinner or sumn at clarke and Lexa’s place. The omegas were rushing around making sure the food was perfect and that the place looked just right.

There was a game on so the alphas were preoccupied with watching it and when their mom finally shows up and she sees her daughters not helping she lowkey yells at them because that’s rude and she didn’t raise her alphas like that periodt.
