Safeguarding Health and Property: Choosing the Right Meth Lab Clean Up Company
The discovery of a methamphetamine (meth) lab can be a harrowing experience for property owners, posing serious health and safety risks due to hazardous chemicals and contamination. In such situations, it's crucial to enlist the services of a professional meth lab clean-up company to ensure proper decontamination and restoration of the affected property. In this blog post, we'll discuss the importance of hiring a reputable meth lab clean-up company and provide guidance on selecting the right one for your needs.
Understanding the Risks of Meth Lab Contamination
Methamphetamine production involves the use of highly toxic chemicals and solvents, which can permeate surfaces and materials within a property, leading to severe contamination. Exposure to these chemicals can pose significant health risks, including respiratory problems, skin irritation, and long-term health effects. Additionally, meth residue can linger for years, posing a threat to future occupants of the property if not properly remediated.
The Role of Meth Lab Clean-Up Companies
Meth lab clean-up companies specialize in the safe and thorough decontamination of properties affected by methamphetamine production. These professionals have the expertise, training, and equipment necessary to assess the extent of contamination, remove hazardous materials, and restore the property to a safe and habitable condition. By following industry best practices and regulatory guidelines, meth lab clean-up companies ensure that all traces of methamphetamine and associated chemicals are properly eradicated, minimizing health risks and preventing future exposure.
Key Considerations When Choosing a Meth Lab Clean-Up Company
Certification and Credentials: Look for a meth lab clean-up company that is certified and accredited by relevant industry organizations, such as the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) or the American Bio-Recovery Association (ABRA). These certifications demonstrate that the company adheres to industry standards and best practices for methamphetamine remediation.
Experience and Expertise: Choose a company with extensive experience in meth lab clean-up and remediation. Inquire about their track record and ask for references from previous clients to ensure they have successfully handled similar projects in the past.
Comprehensive Services: Ensure that the meth lab clean-up company offers a comprehensive range of services, including assessment, decontamination, disposal of hazardous materials, and property restoration. A company that can manage the entire remediation process from start to finish will streamline the process and minimize disruption to your property.
Compliance with Regulations: Verify that the meth lab clean-up company complies with all relevant regulations and guidelines for methamphetamine remediation in your area. This includes adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing the handling, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Insurance Coverage: Confirm that the meth lab clean-up company carries adequate liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. This protects you from potential liability in the event of accidents or injuries during the remediation process.
Transparent Pricing and Contracts: Request detailed estimates and contracts from prospective meth lab clean-up companies, outlining the scope of work, timeline, and associated costs. Avoid companies that provide vague or incomplete pricing information, as this could lead to unexpected expenses later on.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hiring a reputable meth lab clean-up company is essential for ensuring the safe and thorough remediation of properties affected by methamphetamine production. By considering factors such as certification, experience, services offered, regulatory compliance, insurance coverage, and transparency in pricing, you can select a company that meets your needs and provides peace of mind. Remember that timely and thorough remediation is crucial for safeguarding the health and well-being of occupants and restoring the property to a safe and habitable condition.

What You Need to Know About Meth Lab Cleaning
The popular AMC TV series Breaking Bad gave viewers a glimpse of life inside a meth lab, but real-life meth labs can take place anywhere. Whether in the back of an abandoned Winnebago or a home that's been used as a meth lab for years, these illegal drug-making operations can leave behind a wide range of toxic chemicals and waste byproducts that can be hazardous to the health of anyone who lives or even visits the property.
Meth Lab Cleaning is a complex process that involves removing all meth residue and other materials from a property, then sanitizing the entire structure to remove the toxic fumes created by the meth cooking process. The cleanup process can take several days and is very dangerous if it is done improperly. It's best to hire a professional company that specializes in meth lab cleanup. These companies are specially trained to handle the dangerous chemicals involved and to protect their workers from exposure.
One of the first steps in meth lab cleaning is to find out if the property was used for meth production. This is usually done by swabbing multiple areas in the house and sending the samples to a laboratory for testing. If the results come back positive, then the property must be remediated and the occupants must vacate until the house is safe to live in again.
Typically, a meth lab must be cleaned to the satisfaction of an industrial hygienist before the property can be reoccupied. Depending on the results of the testing, this may involve a complete decontamination of the home and even demolition of some or all parts of the property. Statutes and regulations provide immunity from civil lawsuits by future occupants, neighbors or family members for the meth lab contamination if the decontamination is done in accordance with the established standards.
Most of the time, the decontamination process will involve cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and other areas of the home that may be contaminated by meth residue or fumes. Often, surfaces such as wallboard, counters, and floors must be removed and replaced in order to cut heavy contamination. Similarly, appliances such as stoves and refrigerators must be either cleaned or replaced.
A thorough detergent wash of all hard surfaces is also recommended, and this includes the septic and plumbing systems. This is to remove any meth residue that might have been poured down the drains and into the septic system.
Lastly, the HVAC system must be cleaned and sealed. This will prevent any meth residue from contaminating the inside of the system when it's being run or turned on again in the future.
At Fidelis Facillity Management, we know the cost of an unkept space. Breeding bacteria costs you employee sick leave, dust and hard to reach places costs you memorable first impressions and future transactions.

Chemist Stereotypes: Part 1
Bench Monkey: never wants to leave the lab. Brain never fully developed, but hands start turning solid gold. Life slowly turns into romcom titled, “Gollums and Their Chromatography Columns.”
Savior of the World: believes their big idea solves The Problem™. Usually in academia, but sometimes in business world. Research behaviors of Thomas Edison with personality of either Ted Bundy or a sand dune.
Savior’s Disciple: effectively designs entire research program and executes it without saying a word in public. Platinum hands meet diamond mind. Driven by pathological insecurity, crippling social anxiety, enthusiasm for paying karmic debt, or congenital case of Company Man Syndrome.
The Expanded Consciousness: obsessed with fringe psychedelics. Most likely to ignore lab safety, ingest manually purified alkaloids, and record resulting trips in lab notebook. Great to have a beer with, but never bring up fungi unless you want to hear all about them for the next 6 years.
Walter White III: starts as dead-end dissertation project, ends as small-batch artisanal meth brand. Most likely to wear orange for 7 to 12.
Escaped Convict: likes talking to people about more than HPLC gradients. Tunnels out of Fume Hood Penitentiary with a spoon and desperation, then goes on the lam disguised in an allied discipline. Makes twice the money for half the effort, but twenty years later, a faint whiff of paint thinner in their garage still cues a nostalgic mental montage of cleaning glassware while contemplating reaction mechanisms.
Kid with Expensive Toys: one of twenty world experts in NOESY-COZY-INEPTITUDE pulse sequences. Looks for jobs based on NMR magnet frequencies instead of paycheck sizes. Who needs to drive a 120k BMW when you can play with a $10M magnet? Bonus: most likely to wear cargo shorts and a Pink Floyd T-shirt to a black-tie award ceremony, and could happily set a record for hiking the Appalachian trail while bringing nothing but the clothes on their back and a dull Swiss Army knife.
Pyromaniac: ‘nuff said.

Tips To Select a Biohazard Cleaning Company in Henderson and Las Vegas, NV
Cleaning is a chore that cannot be avoided.  Scrubbing and cleaning the dust and debris off a surface may take a long time, but the results are worth it. Unfortunately, there are times when the best efforts of individuals are not enough. It is essential to hire the services of a licensed and experienced biohazard cleaning company in Henderson and Las Vegas, NV, that comes with an excellent track record.
Sure, multiple companies claim to be the best in the area. Unfortunately, many are tall claims with no truth in their words. It is essential to understand when the home or workplace requires the services of professional cleanup teams. It is necessary to remember that a janitor or a vacuum cleaner and a mop will not do. Sure, they will be able to scrub and clean, but being uninformed about the seriousness of the situation only tends to aggravate the dangers. It is thus vital to contact one of the top companies noted for biohazard cleanup practices when a homeowner or business owner feels the need for any of the following services:
· Blood and bodily fluid cleanup
· Pathogen decontamination and protection
· Sewage cleanup and sanitation
· Biomedical waste cleaning, including disposal
· Deodorization and odor control
· Crime scene Cleanup
· Meth lab cleanup
· Eliminate Mold or fungus infestations
· Pest Control
· Localized disease outbreaks
· Hoarding cleanup
It is further necessary to know why untrained people cannot handle such cleaning. It is interesting to learn that blood stains, bodily fluids, and a host of other contaminants may harbor harmful pathogens such as bacteria and viruses that carry deadly infections. Individuals in close contact with such pollutants are likely to become gravely ill. Instances of hepatitis and HIV occurring after being exposed to such biological materials tainted with pathogens are commonplace. Hence, using the right team for cleaning up such remnants is essential.
Some of the aspects that need to be checked and convinced of before hiring a company for biohazard cleaning must include the following:-
· Certificates- The user must request copies of the certificates and other credentials before choosing the particular company. A well-known organization must also undertake the training. Finally, one must also look at the date of completion and inquire about compliance with the local and state regulations
· Expertise & Experience- Selecting a company that has been providing such services for several years is essential. Moreover, each team member must have the required training and substantial experience. The best companies are sure to deal with different types of scenarios and have procedures to clean up each scene regardless of the challenges
The best crime scene cleaners in Las Vegas, NV, and Provo, UT, are not only experts at handling complex and sensitive tasks, but the team also remains compassionate and willing to help the grieving family as much as possible.

Importance Of Death Cleanup in Knoxville and Lenoir City, TN
Running a meth lab or cooking up drugs within an abandoned or sable property spells trouble. Property owners often remain unaware of the dangers and plead ignorance when questioned by the authorities. It is essential to contact a cleanup company known for quality drug lab cleanup in Knoxville and Lenoir City without wasting any time. Failing to do it or resorting to ineffective cleaning may cause trouble for all concerned. Sure, professional services do not come cheap, especially the ones that involve removing dangerous materials from a room(s) or an entire floor in a building. The expense is well and truly justified when one comes to know the dangers of having a drug lab on the premises. It is scary to know that some contaminants remain hazardous even when the drug lab is shut down for good.  Harmful elements, including ammonia, ether, and lithium, continue to linger in a meth lab and may result in affecting the health of people residing in the property after the lab is closed. Moreover, these dangerous elements and more contaminants may spread into the neighborhood and influence others and the environment.
· Reason- Stories abound about the dangers associated with illegal drugs being manufactured clandestinely. While not all of them are true, it makes sense to take suitable precautions by having a property suspected of being a drug lab cleaned out thoroughly before moving in
· Eligibility- Finding the right professionals does not have to be challenging either. On the contrary, looking for a company with a long and proven track record of dealing with such hazards is essential. Taking them on word value is not going to be enough. Instead, it is vital to inquire about their certificates and licenses for cleaning out such hazards that can affect human health and the environment. Hiring a state-registered and certified team informed about EPA and OSHA regulations is a must when appointing a seasoned team for drug lab cleanup services. Apart from ensuring a company's credentials, the user must be satisfied with the expertise and experience of the professional team.
· Procedures Employed- The first step is assessing the suspected property and its surroundings. The trained professionals will then identify the level of contamination before getting down to the actual tasks. Advanced equipment and modern techniques will be combined to eliminate all types of hazards from the property. Moreover, the identified area will be secured before the tasks begin. This will prevent the contaminants from moving around. The public is not allowed inside the secured area, which is enforced with the help of the authorities.
Similar precautions and thoroughness must be ensured when dealing with death cleanup in Knoxville and Lenoir City, TN. A professional cleanup crew is advised to help overcome the risks to health and financial outcomes. Property value is restored after it is cleaned up as per the norms.

My Job is to Watch Dreams Die
By /u/jobthreadthrowaway
I work at a real estate office. We primarily sell houses that were foreclosed on by lenders. We aren't involved in the actual foreclosures or evictions - anonymous lawyers in the cloud somewhere is tasked with the paperwork - we are the boots on the ground that interacts with the actual walls, roofs and occasional bomb threat.
When the lender forecloses - or is thinking of foreclosing - on a property one of the first things that happens is they send somebody out to see if there is actually a house there and if there is anybody living there who needs to be evicted. Lawyers are expensive so they send a real estate agent or a property preservation company out to check. There is the occasional discovery of fraud where there was never a house on the parcel to begin with, but such instances are rare. Sometimes this initial visit results in discovering a house that has burned down or demolished, is abandoned or occupied by somebody who has absolutely no connection with the homeowner. Sometimes the houses are discovered to be crack dens or meth labs, sometimes the sites of cock or dog fighting operations, or you might even find a back yard filled with a pot cultivation that can't be traced back to anybody because it was planted in yet another vacant house in a blighted neighborhood. The house could be worth less than zero - blighted to the point where you can't even give it away (this is a literal statement, I have tried to give away many houses or even vacant lots with no takers over the years) or it could be a waterfront mansion in a gated golf community worth well over seven figures that does not include the number "one". Sometimes they are found to have been seized by the IRS, the local tax authority, the DEA or the US Marshal. Variety is the rule. The end results are the law.
If the house is occupied my job is to make contact and determine who they are: there are laws that establish what happens to a borrower as opposed to a tenant and the servicemember relief act adds an additional set of questions that must be answered. Some of the people have an idea of why I am there. Some claim they never knew they were foreclosed on, or tell me that they have worked something out with their lender, some won't tell me a thing and some threaten me to never return in the name of the police, their lawyer, or the occasional "or else/if I were you". During one initial visit the sight of 50-60 motorcycles parked on the lawn suggested that we try again the next day. At a couple the police had cordoned off the area and at one they were in the process of dredging the lake searching for the body of a depressed former homeowner.
If nobody is home I have to determine if they are at work, on vacation, in the army, wintering/summering at their other home, in jail, in a nursing home, dead or if they moved away. It isn't easy. Utilities can be left on for months. Neighbors can be staging the yard and house to appear occupied to prevent blight in their neighborhood. By the same token people will stop cutting the lawn for months, let trash and old phone books pile up on their porch, lose gas and electric service and continue to live in properties that have not only physically unsafe to approach but are so filthy that when it comes time to clean them out the crews have to wear hazmat suits. One house had a gallon pickle jar filled with dead roaches on the porch. Somebody lived in that house and thought that was a logical thing to do. People like me are tasked with first contact.
Evictions are expensive and time-consuming. Ultimately once the process gets that far there isn't much that can be done to prevent it. You didn't pay your mortgage, the lender gets the house back. There are an infinite number of reasons why the mortgage couldn't be paid, some are more sympathetic than others, but in the end you will be leaving the property willingly or not. The lawyers handle the evictions - they churn through the paperwork in the background, ten thousand properties at a time. They have it down to rote function based on templates, personal experience with the various judges and intimate knowledge of the federal, state and municipal laws, along with dealing with the occasional sheriff who refuses to evict somebody, the informal policies established by the local judges and a myriad of other problems that can arise. As a business decision many lenders have determined that it is cheaper to settle with the occupants - instead of going through the formal eviction they will offer cash. In exchange for surrendering a property in reasonably clean condition with the furnace still hooked up, the kitchen not stripped and the basement not intentionally flooded the lender will cut the occupants a check. It costs much less than an eviction, provides reasonable hope that the plumbing won't freeze and can take a fraction of the time to obtain possession. This is where the personal element becomes real.
Some people jump at the chance. They don't want to live here anymore. They may be getting married and moving in but couldn't sell the unneeded house. They have a new job across the country, they're moving to the other side of the planet. They were renting and found a better place in a neighborhood where the thieves don't grin at them through the kitchen window while they disconnect a running air conditioner knowing that the average response time for the police is measured in weeks for a call like that. The cash is a down payment, a security deposit (since their landlord never returns theirs), or maybe a moving van. These are the best cases. Sometimes they are happy to hear from me. Other times, not so much.
When I make first contact and explain that the lender is offering them money to leave sometimes they tell me that they haven't slept for months, knowing that something was going to happen but never knowing if tomorrow was the day when somebody kicked in their door and threw their kids out on the lawn. Their lenders won't tell them anything, they have nothing to go on but horror stories from other people that they never knew. It never occurred to them that they should call an attorney and ask what was going on. I can be the first people to discuss their situation who isn't a debt collector: you can hear the release of a massive weight in their voice. It isn't much, but at least it is something.
Or they can get angry and defensive, tell me that they were never foreclosed on, tell me that I am trespassing and owe them $5,000 in "land use fees" for "using" their property as I walk to the front door. They threaten to sue, they threaten to call the cops, they say I should look under my car before I start it from now on. They send letters written in various forms of English - one time scribed in crayon - detailing their rights and how I am violating some maritime treaty from the 1700s. In my travels I have learned that if you copyright your name you can't be named in any kind of legal action, if you never write down your ZIP code then you aren't a resident of the United States and that if I tell somebody that their lender is offering them money to vacate while leaving the staircase (yes, these get stolen) and driveway (yes, these get stolen) in place then I am guilty of slave trading under some United Nations something or other.
For those who reject the deal, nothing changes. They don't lose any rights and it isn't counted against them in any way - neither the lawyers nor the courts care because the lenders don't have to offer anything - the eviction process continues. I listen to the stories why they can't/won't take the deal. They can't afford anything else. They don't have anywhere else to go. They want to make the eviction as expensive as possible. They're going to get "a big settlement" from some vague lawsuit any day now. They want their kids to finish out the school year. They intend to take the furnace as soon as they find a new house. All kinds of reasons. Some are heartbreaking, others not so much.
For those who do take the deal, at the appointed date and time I meet them at their former home. I walk the yard and enter every room. I open every drawer and cupboard making sure the house is clean and doesn't have old engines, toxic chemicals or dead dogs lingering anywhere. Sometimes the kids are there, maybe waiting in the car, maybe not. I see the marks on the wall showing how the kids grew over the years. I see the anguished poetry scribbled on the wall by stoned teenagers and the occasional hole punched in the wall. One woman handed me the key to her reinforced bedroom door - during the divorce her now ex-husband was still living in the house and she had to barricade herself in at night. Another said "right there is where I found my son - he couldn't handle losing the house".
Sometimes they don't want the money and don't want to be evicted so they sign a waiver stating that everything left inside can be disposed of. Hospital beds. Oxygen tanks and wheelchairs. Hundreds of boxes of shoes. A mannequin. A 2nd grader's homework portfolio. A wedding album filled with pictures with one person torn out. Get rich quick "business plans". 40 years worth of drafting documents. To the lenders and the lawyers, these things don't exist - they close the file and order a trashout. Sometimes I linger as I check the basement for mold and lead. I am the final period on so many significant chapters. To most other people it is just part of the job but in so many other universes this is where I ended up. There is no difference between myself and these people other than the intangible twists of experience.
And so I listen. I feign dispassion but I'm not fooling anybody. Somehow they can tell that I care and thank me even as they admit that it isn't my fault, that it isn't my responsibility to listen. I've stood inside another's dream for an hour as they spoke, not really to be heard but to say goodbye - to leave the ghosts behind.
They go to the car and return with the openers.
The keys are peeled from a ring.
They thank me. Sometimes they cry.
And they're gone.
I wait for their car to vanish before I put up the sign. To most everybody else it is just another house on just another block in just another city in just another financial catastrophe.
But I was there. I saw the dream end.
But at least I don't make them turn out the lights one last time as they leave.
That's my job.

"Health, Safety, Restoration: The Three Pillars of Meth Lab Cleanup"
The clandestine production of methamphetamine not only poses a severe threat to public health but also leaves behind a toxic legacy that demands meticulous attention. Cleaning up the aftermath of a meth lab requires more than just surface cleaning; it demands a comprehensive approach that revolves around the three essential pillars: Health, Safety, and Restoration.
Understanding the Meth Lab Menace
Methamphetamine production involves the use of highly toxic chemicals, leaving behind hazardous residues that can permeate surfaces and materials within a structure. These residues pose serious health risks to anyone inhabiting or entering the affected space, often long after the lab has been dismantled.
1. Health: The Primary Concern
The first and foremost pillar in the meth lab cleanup process is safeguarding health. Meth residues, including chemicals like iodine, phosphorus, and anhydrous ammonia, can linger on surfaces, furniture, and even in the air. Exposure to these residues can lead to a range of health issues, from respiratory problems to skin irritation.
Professional cleanup services, such as those offered by On-Guard Sanitisation, prioritize the health of individuals by employing specialized techniques and equipment to identify and eradicate these harmful residues. Thorough testing is conducted to assess the extent of contamination, ensuring that no hidden danger persists.
2. Safety: Mitigating Risks at Every Step
The second pillar, safety, is intertwined with health but extends beyond it. Meth lab cleanup involves handling potentially dangerous materials and chemicals, making safety protocols paramount. Professionals undertaking cleanup operations must adhere to strict safety guidelines to protect themselves and others from harm.
On-Guard Sanitisation understands the critical importance of safety in the cleanup process. Their team is trained to handle hazardous substances with care, utilizing personal protective equipment and employing industry best practices. From secure disposal of contaminated materials to preventing cross-contamination, every step is taken to mitigate risks and create a safe environment.
3. Restoration: Bringing Spaces Back to Life
The third pillar, restoration, encapsulates the transformation of a contaminated space into a habitable and safe environment. Meth lab residues can infiltrate building materials, requiring specialized cleaning and restoration techniques. This process is not just about eliminating visible traces but ensuring that the entire space is free from lingering contamination.
On-Guard Sanitisation excels in the restoration phase of meth lab cleanup. Their team utilizes advanced cleaning agents and technologies to remove residues from surfaces, ensuring a thorough and complete restoration. The goal is not just to clean but to restore the affected space to its pre-contamination state, giving individuals the confidence to inhabit it safely.
The Role of On-Guard Sanitisation in Meth Lab Cleanup

Hoarder Clean-Ups
Each hoarding and gross filth clean up situation is different but all require heavy duty cleaning, disinfection and odour removal. These properties often contain rodent droppings, dead animals and human faeces which can carry disease. These contaminated items can also lead to fire hazards. Sydney Forensic Cleaning work closely with social services and insurance companies to remediate and restore these homes.
Discretion assured, our expert cleaning technicians provide a non-judgemental service to help the victim recover and regain control of their life and home. We assist in removing the piles of clutter that are causing health issues, preventing access and blocking out sunlight.
Later this week SBS premieres a new Australian documentary series called Extreme Cleaners. They call themselves “the dirtiest cleaners in Australia”. The show is sure to entertain and inspire.
Crime Scene Clean-Ups
Cleaning up after a crime scene can be extremely traumatising for those involved. The clean-up process must be done in a sensitive manner that is respectful to the families of the deceased and that also complies with strict health and safety guidelines. A forensic cleaning company in Sydney specialises in this type of work.
For example, they can clean fingerprint powder residue from a property where the NSW Police Force has examined the premises for trace fingerprints. The specialised cleaning methods required to remove this residue can be carried out by crime scene cleaners who have obtained the appropriate industry accreditations.
Peter and Sam Teanby are an extreme cleaning Sydney duo from Perth who have a unique father/son relationship, a sense of humour that is infectious, and a cleaning style that has to be seen to be believed. This week, SBS premieres the new documentary series, Extreme Cleaners, which follows the pair through their daily struggles as they take on jobs that other companies would be afraid to touch.
Biohazard Clean-Ups
A variety of situations can lead to the need for a biohazard clean-up. These include crime scenes, unattended deaths, and drug and meth labs. These areas must be cleaned and decontaminated by a professional forensic cleaning team to ensure that the area is safe for people to enter.
Cleaning areas contaminated with faeces, vomit, and urine is a hazardous process that requires proper equipment and training. These materials can cause infections, diseases, and even death if not dealt with correctly.
Peter and Sam Teanby are a father-son forensic cleaning team from Perth. Their humour and sense of adventure shine through in this acclaimed Australian documentary, which shows the two men tackling jobs that most would run away from. Trauma Clean-Ups
When an event such as a crime, suicide or natural death occurs, it leaves behind a scene that needs to be cleaned up. This is a delicate process that involves removing and disposing of all bodily fluids and making the property safe for its next occupants. This work is very sensitive and requires a high level of professionalism.
Trauma cleaners are specially trained to clean locations that have been contaminated by blood and other bodily fluids. They follow strict decontamination protocols to ensure the safety of anyone entering the property. They also understand the psychological trauma that can occur for those who witness a traumatic event.

That Cleaning Crew
Hiring a Cleaning Crew
If you want to hire a cleaning crew, look for one that has a solid reputation. A good cleaning company will vet their cleaners, conduct ID checks and have general liability insurance. They will also provide a customized cleaning schedule.
A cleaner’s job is to clean commercial or residential areas for payment. They are responsible for various cleaning tasks, including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping.
Crime scene cleaners
The work of crime scene cleaners is grueling and not for the faint of heart. These professionals deal with gory and contaminated scenes such as meth labs, unattended deaths and murders. They are also called upon to clean up bio-hazards such as blood, bodily fluids and pathogens. They must be able to deal with the smell of rotting flesh and death on a daily basis.
They often disinfect the scene, use chemicals to liquefy blood and place any items they remove in sterile containers for disposal. They must also be able to interact with grieving family members and business owners concerned about negative publicity. This requires a certain amount of compassion and tact, especially when estimating project costs.
Crime scene cleaners usually work on call and must be available to respond at a moment’s notice. This can mean working at all hours of the day and night. The job is also physically demanding and requires special training in dealing with biohazards.
Commercial cleaners
Commercial cleaners can perform general cleaning of large locations such as offices, restaurants, bars, salons and other commercial premises. They can also clean carpets and other textile coverings, elements of decor and doors. They can also collect and dispose of trash. They are also trained to spot problems, such as stained carpets or pest infestations, and report them to management.
In addition to sweeping and mopping hard floors, they also disinfect surfaces, including doorknobs and light switches. They can also sanitize sinks, toilets, and other areas of the building. They can also empty waste bins and wipe down high touchpoints, such as keyboards and phones, to keep them free of germs.
Some commercial cleaners can also wash windows, although this may require specialised training and insurance to ensure safety. They can also remove graffiti from walls, using chemicals or water jets. They can also scrub non-delicate surfaces with brushes. Many businesses choose to paint over graffiti instead of hiring commercial cleaners, but this can be less effective in the long run.
Residential cleaners
Residential cleaning is a multibillion-dollar industry. It’s a great way to earn money as a full-time or part-time worker. You can find a job through a cleaning agency or work independently. Unlike commercial cleaners, residential cleaners specialize in cleaning homes and domestic dwellings. They are more detail-oriented and thorough. They may also offer add-on services such as interior window washing and deep cleaning.
Residential cleaners must be strong and efficient. They should be able to clean all surfaces in a home, including floors, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and showers. They should be able to sweep and mop floors and dust surfaces, as well as vacuum carpets and upholstery. They must also have excellent stamina and a positive attitude. They should also have a good understanding of cleaning products and equipment.

The Ultimate Guide to Squalor Cleaning: Restoring Cleanliness and Dignity
Living in squalor conditions can be overwhelming, both physically and emotionally. However, with the right approach and support, it's possible to restore cleanliness and dignity to any space. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore squalor cleaning, its challenges, and effective strategies for tackling this daunting task.
Understanding Squalor Cleaning
Squalor cleaning refers to the process of restoring a living environment that has become excessively dirty, cluttered, or unsanitary due to neglect or hoarding behaviors. This type of cleaning often involves addressing issues such as accumulated rubbish, excessive filth, pest infestations, and structural damage. Squalor cleaning requires careful planning, specialized techniques, and sometimes professional intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of occupants.
Challenges of Squalor Cleaning
Health Risks: Squalor environments pose significant health risks due to the presence of mold, bacteria, allergens, and potential biohazards. Cleaning such environments requires proper protective gear and adherence to safety protocols to minimize exposure to harmful substances.
Psychological Impact: Living in squalor conditions can have profound psychological effects on individuals, including feelings of shame, embarrassment, and isolation. Cleaning a squalor environment often involves addressing underlying mental health issues and providing compassionate support to those affected.
Complexity and Scope: Squalor cleaning is a complex and challenging task that may require extensive time, resources, and expertise to complete effectively. The scope of cleaning may vary depending on the severity of the squalor and the level of clutter and filth present.
Effective Strategies for Squalor Cleaning
Assessment and Planning: Begin by conducting a thorough assessment of the squalor environment to identify the extent of the cleaning task and any potential hazards. Develop a detailed cleaning plan that outlines specific tasks, priorities, and safety measures.
Safety Precautions: Prioritize safety throughout the cleaning process by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, masks, and goggles. Ventilate the space adequately and use disinfectants and cleaning agents as recommended to minimize health risks.
Decluttering and Organizing: Start by decluttering the space and removing any unnecessary items or rubbish. Sort belongings into categories such as keep, donate, or discard, and implement organizational systems to prevent future clutter.
Deep Cleaning: Thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces, including floors, walls, countertops, and fixtures. Pay special attention to areas that may harbor bacteria, mold, or pests, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.
Professional Assistance: In cases of severe squalor or hoarding, consider seeking professional assistance from experienced cleaning companies or mental health professionals trained in hoarding disorder intervention. These professionals can provide specialized cleaning services, support, and guidance to ensure a safe and successful outcome.
Conclusion
In conclusion, squalor cleaning is a challenging but essential process for restoring cleanliness and dignity to living environments affected by neglect or hoarding behaviors. By understanding the challenges involved and implementing effective strategies such as assessment, planning, safety precautions, decluttering, deep cleaning, and professional assistance when needed, it's possible to achieve meaningful and lasting results. With patience, compassion, and perseverance, individuals affected by squalor can reclaim their living spaces and embark on a path towards improved health, well-being, and quality of life.

What Does a Crime Scene Cleaner Do?
Tumblr media
A crime scene cleaner’s job is to thoroughly clean up contamination in a sensitive and compassionate manner. They may work in hospitals, police stations, or private homes. They must be trained to clean up hazardous materials and to understand how to properly sanitise environments.
The ice scourge has kept Newcastle’s forensic cleaning services busy, with one company receiving daily requests to test and clean up meth labs. Here are some of the other services they offer:
Crime Scene Cleanup
A crime scene cleaner is a specialised service provider who deals with the cleanup of blood and other bodily fluids. This is a process also known as biohazard remediation or forensic cleaning. Crime scene clean up is a highly demanding job and requires professional skills and knowledge. In addition to these skills, crime scene cleaners need to be compassionate and respectful.
Unlike many other cleaning professions, a career in crime scene cleaning is not for everyone. It is a difficult job that can be emotionally taxing, especially when it involves the death of a loved one. It can also be dangerous due to the risk of exposure to infectious diseases and other health hazards.
Those who are interested in becoming a crime scene cleaner should undergo extensive training and certification to ensure their safety. This includes completing courses on sharps removal and professional cleaning solutions. In addition to this, they should also have a good understanding of the NSI/IICRC S540 standard for Trauma and Crime Scene Remediation.
Blood Spill Cleanup
Blood, faeces and vomit pose major health risks and need to be cleaned up properly by trained forensic cleaners. Cleaning areas contaminated with these substances requires full personal protective equipment (PPE) and the use of specific biohazard cleanup products to remove them effectively.
First, containing the spill is essential. This is why it’s important to have PPE handy such as disposable gloves and gowns. Secondly, all surfaces should be disinfected. This is best done on dry surfaces as a wet surface can dilute the disinfectant and cause bacteria to grow.
The next step is to remove any objects contaminated with blood from the area and place them in a red plastic bag for disposal. Next, dampen a cloth towel and clean the area of the blood spill again. Finally, spray the area with a germicidal disposable wipe found in the kit. This will help ensure that the area is fully disinfected and safe for habitation.
Offensive Odour Removal
Offensive odours can be caused by a number of things including protein odours, decomposing bodies, cigarette smoke, spoiled food, garbage and hoarding. It’s important that the source of the odour is identified and that the proper forensic cleaning procedures are used to ensure that all contaminant residue has been completely removed from the property.
Odours from these contaminates seep into timbers, carpets and fabrics and are often extremely difficult to remove. For this reason, the services of a forensic cleaning expert are required.
A trauma cleaner’s job is to clean up crime scenes and other contaminated properties, ensuring that all biohazardous materials are removed and that the property can be safely re-occupied. They must have a high level of compassion and attention to detail, as well as being able to work under stressful conditions. They must also be able to identify potential health risks and be able to offer reassurance to family members. They must be able to use a variety of equipment and follow strict safety procedures.
Vehicle Decontamination
In the decontamination of vehicles, it is important that the work is done correctly. Otherwise, the risk of radioactive contamination of the vehicle will remain.
Our decontamination products have been developed to reduce these risks. These include the Erase Clay Bar and BlackJack – Tar & Glue Remover. The Erase Clay Bar aims to physically remove contaminants that have been embedded over time in the coating of your car. This drastically reduces the chances of these harmful contaminants remaining on your vehicle.
Forensic cleaning is the process of sanitising areas that have been contaminated with blood, vomit and/or urine. These areas are a health risk to anyone who comes in contact with them and must be cleaned by trained forensic cleaners. The BioHaz team are well practiced in the cleaning of crime scenes, unattended death and suicide clean ups, meth lab remediation and gross filth and hoarders clean ups in Newcastle and all regional NSW areas.

The Perils of Meth and How to Check for It
Meth is a dangerous and highly addictive drug that can have serious consequences for those who abuse it. Meth Test is available to help identify meth use, but it is important to understand the dangers of meth before using them. This post will discuss the dangers of meth and how to test for it.
Importance of Meth Testing
If you own a home or business, it's important to be aware of the dangers of meth contamination. Meth is a highly addictive drug that can be cooked using a number of common household chemicals. The cooking process often leaves behind a toxic residue that can contaminate surfaces and lead to serious health problems for those who come into contact with it. Meth test comes up with process of testing for the presence of meth contaminants in a given area. This can be done with a variety of different test kits, but the most reliable way to test for meth is to hire a professional company that specializes in meth testing and remediation.
Tumblr media
Dangers of Meth Contamination
Meth contamination is a serious problem because the chemicals used to cook meth are highly toxic. When these chemicals are left behind on surfaces like countertops, floors, and walls, they can put anyone who comes into contact with them at risk for serious health problems. Some of the most common health problems associated with meth contamination include:
Respiratory problems
Skin irritation
Eye irritation
Nosebleeds
Headaches
Dizziness
Nausea
These health problems can be short-term or long-term, depending on the level of exposure. In some cases, people have experienced long-term effects like cancer and liver damage as a result of coming into contact with meth contaminants. That's why it's so important to have any area that may have been exposed to meth tested as soon as possible.
Meth Testing Process
There are a few different ways to test for meth contaminants, but the most reliable way is to hire a professional company that specializes in meth testing and remediation. These companies use state-of-the-art testing equipment to take samples from surfaces in your home or business and send them to a lab for analysis.
The results of the lab analysis will tell you whether or not there are meth contaminants present, and if so, at what level. Once you have the results of the lab analysis, you can decide whether or not you need to take action to remove the contaminants.
If you do need to take action, there are a few different ways to clean up meth contamination. The most effective way is to hire a professional company that specializes in meth remediation. These companies use specialized equipment and cleaning products to remove all traces of meth contamination from your home or business.
Conclusion:
Meth contamination is a serious problem that can have short-term and long-term health effects for those who come into contact with it. If you suspect that your home or business may have been contaminated with meth, it's important to have it tested as soon as possible by a professional company that specializes in meth testing and remediation. Once you have the results of the lab analysis, you can decide whether or not you need to take action to remove the contaminants. If you do need to take action, the most effective way to clean up meth contamination is to hire a professional company that specializes in meth remediation.

14 Firefighters Share Their Scariest Paranormal Encounters
The weirdest part of the fire was the 911 call. The callers wife was in the background screaming, “you f**ked him off now, look he’s gone and burned the place down”.
With grit and determination, every day firefighters bravely put their lives on the lines for us, but it seems it’s not just the flames these brave men and women face; from haunted firehouses to ghostly apparitions. Here are 14 of the most chilling paranormal encounters and ghost stories shared by firefighters from across the United States.
1. Guardian Angel
Our firehouse isn’t haunted, at least not on a regular basis, but one of our engines is.
Two examples I have personally seen and experienced are; first, we were responding to a call in a dark, secluded, industrial area one night when the engine suddenly sputtered, stalled, and coasted to a stop right in front of a railroad crossing with no gates. Just as we stopped, a freight train came through. The engine started right up and ran fine after the train passed.
The second example happened one blazing hot summer afternoon when we were called to a highway construction site for a burning shanty. We pulled up and began advancing the handline when it suddenly seemed like the hose became tangled up in the hosebed. We went back to the engine to check, and just then the shanty blew up into thousands of tiny pieces. There were NO tangles in the hose, and it wasn’t caught or hung up anywhere.
2. Mr Jones
Our fire department is haunted by a man named Mr. Jones. The story dates back many years before we built a new station. Mr. Jones died at the old firehouse from a heart attack after battling a house fire.
A chief told me a story once: ‘I went to the restroom which was off the hallway. On my way in, I sat my brand new pack of cigarettes on the file cabinet outside of the doorway. When I came out, the cigarettes were lined end-to-end down the hallway.’
Another firefighter about a year later also had a ‘Mr. Jones Experience.’ He and another guy were watching TV one night when the clock above the TV flew off the wall, landed in the center of the room, spun around a few times, then landed on a book shelf.
All of the ‘haunted firehouse’ stories never really had me believing until Mr. Jones gave me a story of my own. I have this thing about open shower curtains. I notice when they are open and I have to close them. I had walked into the restroom to clean it but forgot a trash bag. The shower curtain was open. When I walked back in, about 30 seconds later, the curtain was closed. That is the only story that is personal. Other than that, we have doors that open and close by themselves, lights that go on and off, stuff like that. So that’s my story and I’m stickin to it.
3. Jesus Christ
About seven or eight years ago, we arrived at a townhouse with heavy fire from the first floor on side one. After making entry, locating the fire in the kitchen, and extinguishing, we set about taking out a few windows for ventilation.
After the smoke had risen, we noticed that the living area to the rear of the kitchen (which was on the right hand side as we entered) had taken significant smoke and heat damage. On the wall was a picture of Jesus Christ, and it was the only object in the room that appeared untouched. Even the wall BEHIND the picture was smoke-stained and blistered.
There was evidence of two streams of water that had trickled from the lower corners of the picture to a point in the middle of the wall where they met and continued down to the floor. The odd thing was that the line had been pulled through this room and was flowing into the kitchen to push the fire out the front, through a large vented window. No water had been flowing in the room, and the steam produced had been pushed out the window. Even the FM was amazed, and we haven’t seen anything like it since. It kinda makes one wonder.
4. Steve
We have a protector. We had a member, Steve that was killed in the line of duty during a helicopter operation. Ever since he died, members swear they can hear him in the building at night. Doors close, open, etc. without explanation. Then one night we figured out why he was there.
One of our members who has been here about 15 years now was on duty. We have bullet proof vests we keep on the units, but in a back compartment. He heard that compartment open and close. He went out into the bay and looked at it, and for some reason he took the vest out and put it in the front seat. He’d never done that before.
Next thing you know, he’s toned out to a ‘sick call’ that after his arrival was deemed a shooting. Nothing happened to him, but the point was made.
Several such incidents have occurred. Whenever something big is about to happen, a unit door opens and shuts or a bay door opens etc. We always know.
5. The Phantom Handprint
On April 18, 1924, a firefighter named Frank Leavy was washing a window at the fire station. For some reason, he paused in his work, his hand resting against the pane of glass, and he told a friend who was standing nearby that he had the strangest feeling he was going to die that day. Just then, the station received an alarm call and the fire fighters were sent to a fire that had broken out at Curran Hall, an office building in Chicago. While fighting the fire, a wall collapsed and killed eight of the firemen… Frank Leavy was one of those killed.
The next day, one of the firemen noticed something strange about the window that Frank had been washing the day before. There seemed to be an unusual stain on the glass…. and it appeared to be the imprint of Frank’s hand at the same spot where he had been leaning the day before.
They tried everything that they could, but they could find no way to erase the strange handprint. It seemed to be etched into the glass!
An expert from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass company brought a special solution to the fire house, guaranteeing that it would remove the print, but it didn’t work. Over the years, there were suggestions that the pane of glass be removed, but many of the firemen argued, saying that it was not right to fool with the unknown. Besides that, it was a reminder, albeit a grim one, of their dead friend. And there was no doubt that the handprint belonged to Frank Leavy! An official from the city had come down with a fingerprint comparison and the prints matched those of Frank’s. For the next twenty years, the handprint defied all explanation and was a common attraction to visitors and other firemen from around the city.
Finally, on the morning of April 18, 1944 a careless paper boy tossed the morning edition at the fire house and shattered the window where Frank’s handprint had been.
It happened exactly twenty years to the date of when Frank Leavy died!
6. “You F**ked Him Off Now”
There was a fire about 6-7yrs ago. The call was weird from the start, the 1st due engine didn’t want to start (it was out on a run bout 20mins before) they get there, the house was fully involved. When they got there, the fire was burning in strange ways… at one point flames were shooting out a window, and taking a ninety degree turn upward. The investigator pictures show the face of the devil in the smoke and flames. I know it sounds BS, but I have seen a few of these pics, and have talked with some of the investigators. They were saying that the basement was rocking, when they went back the next day it looked as though nothing burned downstairs.
The weirdest part of the fire was the 911 call. The dispatcher said the callers wife was in the back ground screaming, “you f**ked him off now, look he’s gone and burned the place down”. These people were said to have been Satan worshipers, everyone in the Dept. is afraid to even go on that road for calls. Incidentally the name of the road is “Angel Hill” hmmm, pretty weird.
7. Footsteps
I worked for a department that had lost a few members in its time. Over the course of the first few months I was there, I noticed strange noises in the bay. Once, I walked in the front door only to hear the back door slam. I walked back to see who it was, and when I opened the back door, no one was there. There was fresh snow on the ground and no tracks.
Another time I went down to the bay in the middle of the night. I heard distinct footsteps walking around one of the rigs on the other side of the bay. I called out but no one answered. I got spooked and crept around the bay with an axe trying to find the intruder. No one there! I also got a really spooky feeling a few times when I was alone in the bay by the back door. Later, I happened to mention to the chief that I had heard some weird stuff in the station at night. He got a strange look on his face and said ‘Let me guess… footsteps behind Engine 3 and a creepy feeling by the back door!’ I got the same story from one of the captains, about hearing footsteps and all that. Guess someone’s still hanging around…
8. The Station in The Woods
Back at my old department before I moved to my current one I was assigned to the farthest southern station by myself with a single engine. The area was in a heavily wooded area of the district. At night it got extremely dark in that area, more so than the other areas of the dist. There were a lot of one lane dirt and paved roads as well as a few meth labs, and no police coverage.
I had had several occasions that I would hear dogs barking at a house near the station, and hear sounds outside the station like thumping noises, usually after 1 AM. I would go outside to look and no one would be there. These noises went on for about a week. Once I had a friend from another station come down to visit me but I was gone, he got scared off when he heard five loud bangs on the wall near the kitchen, of course he failed to tell me this. Another night I was in bed and saw a shadow outside my window walking in the flower bed. The shadow passed my window and then the person kicked the door near the bay. I crawled out of bed and called 911, while I was on the phone the person busted out the bedroom window, half scared shitless I ran to the engine and bailed north to another station with a higher staffing level. The PD responded and 45 minutes later searched and deemed the station safe.
I soon after moved from that station and it is no longer staffed even now 3 years later. I found out from a B/C later on that a previous FF had been attacked in the parking lot washing an engine, and that the station had had several other weird occurrences happen since it was built.
9. The Hose Tower Hanging
I too have heard of the strange noises that occur inside many of our firehouses.
We have a firehouse that late at night, you can hear chains rattling at the top of the hose tower. When you turn on the light and climb the ladder to the platform at the top of the tower, nothing is there. The rumor has it that back in the 50’s a probationer hung himself in the hose tower and wasn’t discovered for a week.
10. The Old Capt.
The oldest station in Lex., KY, is haunted, according to some of the old heads, by an old Capt. who died while on duty in his sleep on Christmas Eve in the 1940’s. He is said to have sat in an old cane bottomed rocking chair, that chair was put in the attic of the station after his death, where it is still heard to be rocking on occasion.
Chiefs have gotten calls from neighbors who were mad because they could see a fireman looking out of the upstairs window, but no one would answer the door. This usually happens when the engine company was out on a fire run or training. Engine started by itself and backed in to the wall one night (std. trans.). Some of the guys who have worked there would not even go in the house alone on payday to pick up their pay checks if the co. was out.
11. The Ouija Board
A fire company that I used to belong to is quartered in a building built in the 1930’s and it is unquestionably haunted. Odd things happen regularly such as bathroom stall doors being locked from the inside, tv and lights turning on and off, footsteps across the floor, yelling when nobody else is there, etc… A few members decided to bring in an Ouija board one night and see what they could find. It turns out that there are two ghosts, one is a past chief and the other is a small boy that used to live in a row of miner’s houses that has long since been torn down.
The chief confirmed his identity by naming other long dead members (so long dead that we had to dig back 50 years in the company’s records to even find their names!). The chief generally drags chairs around the meeting room at night and yells at members while the boy is constantly bouncing his ball on the upstairs floor. All of this only happens at night.
12. The Indian Arrowheads
My father’s volunteer fire company also found Indian arrowheads while they were digging for an addition to the firehouse back in the 50s, but they also unearthed cannonballs and buttons. If my memory is right, some expert said that the cannonballs were from the American revolution and that the buttons were from a Hessian soldier (Hessians were mercenaries that the British used against Washington’s army). BUT – strange things began happening while those items the firemen dug up were in the firehouse.
First off, anyone that touched the items got very ill with high fevers and rash. The guys that actually dug up the items were very bad off; and their feet became swollen and turned black and blue. The door to the firehouse would also swing open just as someone approached, and the doors to the huge cast iron firehouse oven would open and close all by itself. Someone in the company said that they should bury the items; put them back in the ground – and when they did everyone got better, and all the strange things stopped happening.
13. The Fortune Teller
My firehouse has had a run of strange happenings over the years also. Many of us have actually seen a misty figure move through the rec room and out to the apparatus room. Some of the crews have seen the figure together, others have seen him when they were by themselves. The usual doors swinging, chairs moving upstairs, people walking across the floor or up and down the stairs happens occasionally.
The really scary part was when a friend of a friend stopped by the firehouse with her kids for a tour. This woman practices tarot card readings, fortune telling and the like. She had never been in the firehouse before and had never known about any of the instances in the firehouse. After the tour she asked me if the firehouse had “guest appearances” often. I thought she meant the kids and said that we often have children take tours of the place. She corrected herself and asked if we had ever seen ghosts, I said, maybe-I’m not sure. She described our misty figure from head to toe exactly as he appears and said she had seen him. Do I believe, probably not much more than I had before that day but I don’t doubt anything.
14. Standing Behind Me
This story takes place in Fayetteville, NC and the department I used to work for there. When I was assigned to Engine 2, I had heard all kinds of stories of it being haunted. Footsteps, doors opening, writing on the wall, and even a sighting are all the things I was told about.
I heard some things once in a while but the one time I was really spooked happened in late 2000. I was lying in bed, about 2 am when I heard footsteps approach my bunk and stop behind me, between my bed and the wall. The first thing I thought was that I had slept through a call but then I saw that my LT was still asleep and I noticed the radio was quiet. I could feel someone standing beside the bed and as much as I didn’t want to I slowly turned and looked to find that there was no one there.

A clandestine drug laboratory (or ‘clan lab’) is any site associated with the process of attempting to manufacture illicit drugs. Most commonly, clan labs are located in residential rental properties.
Why are drug labs dangerous?
Drug labs produce a range of illicit drugs including:
Amphetamines and methylamphetamines — commonly referred to “speed” or “ice” and are highly addictive3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) — street name “ecstasy”Heroin and “home-bake” heroinLysergide (LSD)Gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) — street name “fantasy”Paramethoxyamphetamine (PMA)Other chemically-based dangerous substances
Drug labs in Australia can also include cocaine extractions, synthetic cannabis manufacture and indoor hydroponic cannabis. The drug “cooks” have little regard for themselves or the welfare and safety of the community.
These synthetic drugs are produced using highly toxic chemicals mixed together with other substances. Because of the mix of precursor chemicals and substances used in drug production, the resulting dangers are the generation of highly toxic fumes, poisonous gases, chemical vapours together with corrosive and flammable ingredient / by products which presents a real risk of explosion, flash burns and fire. The waste produced from drug labs may also cause harm to the occupants and the environment.
Exposure to the toxic by-products of these substances can cause immediate harm and can be life threatening. Prolonged exposure to chemicals used in drug labs may contribute to serious long term health issues (including brain, liver, kidney damage and cancer).
Even after the removal of a clandestine laboratory, residual chemical hazards from the toxic fumes and poisonous gases during production and the location where drugs are taken/consumed within the lab environment come into contact with the building structure and content items. The presence of clan lab residues inside a dwelling continues to pose a health and environmental threat to occupants (present plus future) and consequentially the property is considered a contaminated site and deemed unfit for human habitation.
Clan labs are usually set up in rental properties, meaning that future tenants are at greatest risk. Inhabiting the site of a former clandestine laboratory contaminated with a variety of chemical residues can result in serious health problems, particularly for children, elderly, individuals that have immune compromised health problems who are likely to be in contact with surfaces and furnishings containing these residues. This can leave the property owner or property manager at risk of legal action from tenants experiencing adverse health effects.

13. The Nature Of – 1
No arrangements had been made, so Dr. Drakken didn’t count on a visit over the weekend, much less hope for one. Not after the cold shoulder he’d given when he’d locked her out of his quarters while he stopped a bloody nose, and later grunting in wordless dismissal when she popped into his office to inform him she was borrowing Lux and his Beetle for burgers and a ride home.
She’d given him a fleeting opportunity to take her instead, jokily recommending a liquor store and movie rental, and like a fool he turned her down with a scoff that he was in no mood to abet in her underage drinking. His face was still sore from the wrench, and he didn’t need her finding a way to bruise his ego further.
He went to town that Friday evening anyway, long after dark, to do his shopping for fresh ingredients as the phantom voice of his mother insisted. A balanced meal for a change didn’t lift his spirits as long as he was slumped alone at the kitchen island though. His appetite was too far gone to finish his plate. The extra serving was wrapped up in foil, bound to be forgotten at the back of the fridge until he threw it out next week.
Given he’d braced himself to spend his weekend in his usual solitude, Drakken was in for a surprise Saturday morning. Whether it was a pleasant surprise was debatable.
Slumping out of his bedroom, bundled up in a soft navy blue robe, he paused on his way to the kitchen and snapped his head toward the living room instead. The television was on. He just barely recognized the blurry colors and shapes of Scamper and Bitey on mute. He never tuned into that channel, and he was certain he hadn’t left the TV on.
He blinked blearily to a figure clad in all black on his couch, fetched his glasses he’d forgotten on the kitchen counter last night, and crept over to take a better look.
It was Shego, of course, so not a total surprise. She was roughed up. Dirt on her cheeks and clothes, autumn leaves in her hair. One pant leg was rolled up to just below the knee, paper towels wrapped around a bloodied ankle which left a stain on the corduroy couch cushion he might never get out. A paper sack of cash and coins had been dumped out on his coffee table, some of it counted and stacked, but most of it in a loose pile and spilling onto the floor.
He had half a mind to shove her awake and demand answers.
He made coffee instead.
A few minutes later, he was given a start, as he hadn’t heard her get up. She brushed by behind him as she sidled into the kitchen, and popped up onto the counter nearby to put her dirty foot in the sink, hissing as she peeled away crusted paper towels that had dried to her ankle. From his spot by the stove, Drakken cast a wary glance back at her rinsing away dried blood and stuck tissue.
Watching her tend to the injury wasn’t conducive to making breakfast, and it sure didn’t help his appetite. It was the ingrained voice of his mother compelling him to cook at all, and if he didn’t have company, he likely would have skipped the most important meal of the day entirely.
He wanted to snap at her to take care of herself in the bathroom – he put eating utensils in that sink, for crying out loud – but she spoke before he could find the nerve to tell her off.
“Smells good,” she said blithely without looking back at him, as if she weren’t picking at scabs. “Whatcha cookin’?”
“Omelets.”
“Can I get extra cheese?”
“I didn’t say I was cooking any for you,” he bluffed, and flinched as cold water was flicked at his cheek, some of it sizzling in the pan. Cross-contamination crossed his mind and he grimaced, giving her a curt, “Fine,” in the hope she wouldn’t do it again.
“And extra mushroom.”
“Only if you tell me what you got up to last night.”
“I dunno. I got high,” she answered airily. Her tone was hard to read and he saw her shrug in his peripheral.
Drakken turned to her now to study her drying off with yet more paper towels, but, “High on what?” somehow took precedence over his uneasy curiosity of how severe the lacerations were even as his eyes darted down to her ankle. He could think of only one medical clinic in this town, and it wasn’t open on weekends. Otherwise, it was a forty-five minute drive to the nearest hospital if she needed stitches from a licensed professional.
“Don’t worry about it,” she said.
But he did. He even screened his henchmen every so often. Thoughts of the newspaper clippings came back to him, the nasty rumors of meth use and other dubious substances in particular. He narrowed his eyes at her. “If you don’t remember what you did last night, then I feel I should worry about it,” he retorted as he stepped over to inspect her ankle for himself. “It’s not going to get in the way of—?”
“Chill out, dude. It was just weed,” she swore irritably, and it was a wonder she didn’t kick him for grabbing her leg to take a look. He swore he caught a trace of the odor on her then, and crinkled his nose. She shot him a dirty look in return and yanked herself free. “It’s not a big deal.”
Whether she meant the lacerations or the dope, he wasn’t sure if he completely believed her. As he glowered at the sheepish girl slipping down from the counter beside him, favoring one foot, he had the sneaking suspicion what half of her too-high-to-remember claim had been a lie. “How did that happen anyway?”
“You really need to give me a key to the gate,” she grumbled.
“You tried climbing the fence, didn’t you?” he guessed, and took it as a yes when she quickly shoved away from the counter to keep her back to him while she got into the fridge. He shuddered to think of her getting snagged in the barbed wire topping the fence, but it didn’t explain the leaves in her hair or why she was barefoot with dirty feet. He sighed and unthinkingly picked out some debris from the snarls of hair as she set about slicing creminis, at least until she shot him a testy sidelong glance that reminded him to keep his hands to himself.
Shego came clean on her own as he went back to tending to the stove, though Drakken had the sense she wasn’t telling the whole truth. She regaled getting high with her new posse from the café, eager to explain how they’d dressed up in black, complete with balaclavas, and worked as a team to rob a convenience store. She only came away with a couple hundred dollars, but she was content with it, while her friends had been high enough to be content with armloads of snacks they’d looted. Following the heist, she’d lost her shoes in the dark and fell in the woods while avoiding the road. When Drakken tried to scold her for making trouble, she cut him off, quickly blaming him for putting the idea in her head in the first place and justifying the mischief by accusing the 24-Seven clerk of being a creep and a pig. Then she chastised him for not being there for her when she needed a getaway driver.
The account didn’t ease his worries much.
Nonetheless, Drakken fetched her the first-aid kit from his bathroom after breakfast and left her to tend to herself properly and crash on his couch again as he started his day in the tech lab.
Just having her asleep a room away on his couch was enough to ease the loneliness somehow. It was better when she woke up and migrated to the chair behind him as he worked.
It was a shame it only lasted for the day.
Setting her up outside the lair was feeling like a mistake, Drakken decided as he took her home that evening. He reminded himself like a mantra that it was for the best. He had to protect himself, although chaperoning her so often was bound to be counterproductive. Her do-gooder superhuman family was bound to show up sooner or later, and it was best he kept them as far as possible. Which meant her too, as much as he was coming to hate the very thought.
When it came time to drop her off in front of the apartments, she offhandedly promised to see him Monday, but Drakken involuntarily let yesterday’s soreness show in his tone as he asked if she’d be waiting for him behind Buckley’s. He knew he’d made a mistake when she narrowed her eyes at him before giving an ambiguous shrug and jumping out.
Keeping her at a distance may have been his idea – but all reason and logic aside, he was certainly regretting it as he was left by his lonesome once again. He had to pull off a glove to be sure he hadn’t turned a shade bluer.
Technically, he did see her Monday – just not at the usual meeting place. She was already walking down the sidewalk a block away from Buckley’s Brew, walking a happy-go-lucky brown dog all but dragging her along and chatting with a scrappy young fellow with bad teeth and patchy stubble. Drakken tried coasting slowly as he passed, but the civilian Shilo shot him a dirty look and a rude hand gesture. Grudgingly, he took the hint to bug off. She didn’t turn up later, much to his disappointment.
The next day, he debated even bothering to make the trip to pick her up, as per their agreement. But he was glad he did, because she was waiting for him this time. She was with one of her café girlfriends again. It was decidedly a better sight than yesterday’s, and he was rewarded for his effort this time when she climbed in, though she didn’t bother to put out her cigarette this time, choosing instead to wryly hold it out his way as if to offer him a drag. He glared and shoved her outstretched arm back to the passenger side.
Back at the lair, she performed the task she was given of honing his henchmen’s skills and keeping them sharp, although not very professionally today. Drakken was working on plans in his office when he glanced up to the CCTV across the room for the umpteenth time, spotting a commotion on the screen dedicated to the gym. He was surprised it took her this long to give one of the new henchmen a black eye and a knee to the groin.
Before he could consider going to the gym to break it up, the video feed informed him she was already making a hasty departure. So he sat back down and scooted up to his desk to resume working on the blueprint for his latest pet project – or at least pretending to do so. His feigned focus didn’t last long.
Drakken didn’t hear her enter, but remaining oblivious to Shego’s presence beside him was impossible when she grabbed him by the arm and hoisted him out of his seat at the risk of stretching his sleeve.
“Come on. I wanna get out of here,” she said coldly as she all but drug him from his office.
It didn’t sound like he had a say in the matter. He pried her fingers from his arm to give himself a little more dignity as he strode along behind her. “Did something happen?” he pressed, throwing a glance back down the stairwell. Reviewing security footage for misbehavior wasn’t an option right now.
“No,” Shego scoffed. “I’ve just got somewhere to be.”
“But—”
It came out whinier than he’d meant, and she shot him a glare over her shoulder, interrupting, “But what?”
Drakken cleared his throat and slipped around her to the step above. “It’s not time for you to go,” he said, straining to keep his voice level.
Shego offered a mere shrug as she pushed him aside to pass. “The boys and I came to an agreement to take a break for a few days,” she explained. “They’re sore, and I’ve got better things to do than spend my afternoons beating them up.”
“Like what?” slipped out in a scoff.
“Like hanging out my friends in the park and being a hoodlum,” she offered as if it was the obvious answer. “You never want to do anything fun, Doc. It’s boring here. Call me when you’ve actually got something for me to do.”
Recoiling from the sharp sting of her words, Drakken shied back as she finished her ascent up the stairs ahead of him. He wasn’t boring – he was blue for Pete’s sake – and – and he squeezed his eyes shut, recalling the amount of time she spent idle and lounging around. He supposed he really hadn’t given her much fulfillment lately.
Treading slowly after her, he scratched the nape of his neck with a frown as he considered viable avenues to appease her.
Shego was quiet on the ride into town, and he himself was a little too sore and deep in thought to be much for conversation either. An autumn thunderstorm loomed, owing to the thick humidity, which didn’t make the silence any less suffocating. As the first raindrops hit the windshield, Drakken was momentarily glad he hadn’t been so cross as to tell her to walk, though he was still inclined to give her a cold shoulder for the earlier insult.
He doubted the cold shoulder was all that effective though when he was the one feeling snubbed and chilled.
When the civilian Shilo finally piped up, waving a hand out toward him to signal him, it was to tell him to stop the van – and then she was shouldering her go-bag and hopping out, something down the street ultimately more important than a courteous goodbye or thank you for the ride. As the door slammed behind her, thunder cracked with a dazzling flicker of light, and Drakken had half a mind to order her to get back in the van as he blinked away the spots.
It was just his luck she was jogging down a one-way street in a direction he couldn’t follow. He idled a moment too long, watching her go, and the honk of a horn behind him alerted him he was holding up traffic. He just barely caught a last glimpse of her ducking into an alley as he drove on.
Back at the lair, he got back to business, a new determination fueled by her insult urging him to work overtime. He impatiently ordered his scant crew of henchmen to do the same, visiting the workshop in the basement himself to hand over documents detailing precisely the parts he needed to complete an order.
The behemoth Lars overseeing the shop was none too impressed by Drakken’s deadline. He turned away with a howl of laughter that reverberated through the room and gave him a dismissive answer, “You’ll get ‘em when you get ‘em.”
As the head honcho, it wasn’t the treatment he was used to. He left with his face hot and hands balled into fists, and with the creeping suspicion that his closest subordinate’s presence of late had been gradually undermining his own authority worse than he could have anticipated. It was high time he quit letting her push him around and regain some control around the place. Keeping her at a distance was all-around for the better.
Regardless of whatever pep talk he gave himself as he straightened his spine and squared his shoulders to assume a respectable posture, he still found himself out of the lair first thing the next morning. He’d thought it through. It had been hard to sleep with the storm outside raging, the thunderclaps heard all the way in his bedroom in the lair. The resonating booms had echoed through the ventilation system all night, a good portion of which he’d spent in the lab plucking away at the latest ridiculous order that ought to earn him a small fortune.
Though the thunder had moved on, the rain illuminated in his headlights came down in sheets, quenching the parched landscape. By the flow of water on the road, washing away mud and debris, Drakken didn’t doubt the flashflood warnings broadcast on the radio. He was surprised the ceiling back at the lair hadn’t begun to drip yet, and could only cross his fingers for another year that the architect’s guarantee was worth anything. He hoped to be out of the hole soon, and idly contemplated the sort of lair he might invest in next. He wasn’t much of a beachgoer, but an island in the tropics sounded awful nice about now.
It was still dark out – especially dark given the unyielding cloud cover – which made the single front window of Shego’s studio apartment in the upper right corner easy to spot despite the distortion of the rain streaming down his windows. The light was on, which he hoped meant she was home and awake.
He weighed the options of waiting for her and going up to fetch her. He supposed he should have called, but if she had phone service yet, she’d yet to give him her number, he realized.
A minute later, he was ringing her doorbell. He really hadn’t thought it through. He’d taken a leap out of the van and made a mad dash through the driving rain, soaked through by the time he reached the staircase. The breezeway roof above offered no protection from the rain blowing in sideways, and for a second he was relieved his accomplice answered the door so quickly.
She was buttoning up a clear plastic raincoat, uttering, “Yeah, yeah, I’m coming,” when she suddenly leapt back and stared at him as if she’d seen a ghost. “What are you doing here?”
What was he doing here? He stood staring at her slack-jawed for a moment too long, a cold gust of rain striking his back making him jump forward. Civilian Shilo stepped aside to let him take shelter in her doorway, but waited for an answer. He cleared his throat to kick-start intelligent thought again. “I thought I’d give you a ride to Jackass – I mean, to Buckley’s,” he said, and tacked on the excuse, “I was in town anyway for, uhm. Some parts.”
“That’s…nice,” she said warily, and flipped up her hood. She peeked past him into the dreary morning. “But I already have a ride, so…”
Drakken glanced back. The only vehicle in sight was his old white cargo van. “Really? Because I don’t see it.”
“Well, yeah. He’s not supposed be here for another five—”
Suddenly he was very cold, and sodden clothes weren’t to blame. “He?” slipped from his mouth before he could think to respectfully excuse himself for impeding. “Who’s he?”
“My getaway driver,” she answered curtly with a roll of her eyes. Her hand clasped around his wrist then, and he was being towed back out into the rain.
“I thought I was your getaway driver?” he uttered stupidly as she turned to lock the door.
“Only when you need me to be your errand girl,” she reminded with a note of resent, voice rising above the clamor of the heavy rainfall.
“Oh.” Drakken blinked at the blurry shape of the girl in the clear slicker ahead of him as she let go of his wrist so they could both safely descend the slick staircase. He couldn’t accurately recall the number of times she’d tried coercing him out to do something, particularly activities that could get them into trouble. The image of her lying across his couch last weekend came to mind, her ankle torn up but the thrill involved in obtaining the meager sack of cash evidently worth it.
Whoever this getaway driver of hers was, it was evident to Drakken he’d need to step up his game if he wanted to compete.
He couldn’t shut down the anxious tumult at the thought any easier than he could the stir of warmth nearly blotting out the cold rain chilling him to the bone as he watched her take shotgun of his van. He told himself hypothermia was to blame for the odd sensation, but his companion negated the thought just as quickly.
As he climbed in behind the wheel, she plucked the glasses from his face and wiped them dry with a rag from the console before he could fuss with his own impaired vision himself. He thought his, “Thank you,” came off as polite and genuine, but he might as well have insulted her by the way she crossed her arms and huffed.
It could still be hypothermia, he decided with a nod to himself.
Before turning a corner ahead, he couldn’t help noticing a pair of headlights stop where he’d been parked moments ago. He cast a glance to Shego – she was watching the side mirror, her mouth quirked into a wry smile, and he swallowed bile and kept his mouth shut to keep curiosity to himself. Even if he did feel entitled to know what game she was playing with him.
“Shall I pick you up today?” he wondered as he pulled up to the curb in front of the corner shop café. The windows of Buckley’s Brew were already lit up as the large baker and a couple of girls moved about inside, setting up shop.
Shego hummed, but then she shook her head dismissively. “Not unless—”
“Unless I have a job for you,” he predicted, and gave a nod. “Roger that.”
“I will literally take anything,” she practically groaned. “Even sneaking into a movie or spray-painting the welcome sign into town.”
“That’s too juvenile,” Drakken whined back at her. “It’s not even that evil—”
“Fine!” she said, throwing her hands up. “Be a stick in the mud.”
“I’ll have something for you!” he blurted out just as she popped her door open. She glanced back at him with a raised eyebrow, and it took all his resolve at that moment not to shrink back under the weight of her inquiring stare. “I’ll have it finished – you’ll – look, you’ll just have to wait, okay? That whole downsizing thing really set me back. So just be patient, Shego.”
She stared for another moment as if sizing him up before giving an indignant huff. “Well, you know where to find me. I’ll be waiting.”

When is Biohazard and Crime Scene Clean Up Necessary?
Any tragic event is always unexpected and traumatizing. Nobody thinks or wishes for such things to happen, that’s why when tragedy strikes, people are unsure of the next step to take. Professional approach and fast response time is a must for any crime scene cleanup and can only be left at the hands of experts. Immediate response coupled with expertise is critical to biohazard cleanup.
Professional and experienced handling is necessary after a crime scene happened within your property to ensure that your property is free from the traces of a bloody or traumatic accident. State-of-the-art equipment and expert techniques are essential in gathering evidence and must be handled by professionals. Unattended deaths which might involve decomposing bodies should also be dealt with care and consideration for people and property. It is best to leave these to technicians who have been rigorously trained to handle seriously hazardous materials like blood and other bodily fluids. The danger of not addressing these immediately is that it increases the risk of blood-borne pathogens to manifest in your property. The trained professionals of ServiceMaster are always geared with personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling contaminated materials before disposing them to a licensed waste facility. It is also essential to note that the level of safety of the vehicle used to transport the biohazard material from any cleanupis a foremost consideration. Experts at ServiceMaster - the best company to call during these difficult times as they can reduce downtime and offer the best cleanup services for your family at a reduced cost. Disinfecting a property is not only limited to safely managing the rigors of a crime scene. Emergency rooms in hospitals can also be a breeding ground of a biohazard from filth or even unsanitized hospital rooms. Unattended deaths or decompositions emit unpleasant odors and smells coupled invisible pathogens floating in the air, and, when inhaled, could cause respiratory damage when mishandled. Besides crime scene cleanup services, trained technicians at ServiceMaster also offer cleaning services for properties that might have been contaminated due to methamphetamine (meth) production. Properties that housed meth lab operations have more or less accumulated toxic and reactive substances that can cause very adverse reactions to its future tenants. Children and individuals with compromised immune systems might eventually suffer from the toxins that might bioaccumulate in their respiratory systems-- causing unwanted headaches and nausea. Luckily for the residents of Georgia, ServiceMaster has an established Meth Lab Cleanup Protocol that fully conforms to EPA Guidelines for biohazard cleaning to thoroughly sanitize and decontaminate your property.
