Before I even read the second addition of this post I was like “yep just like Taylor swift and all her dumbass fans.” I don’t hide that I hate that woman, so ofc all the rabid swifties deliberately hunt down my blog bc “oh no! And thanks to this post, I’m finally able to put into words just how fucking stupid that is! Many people call Elijah a racist and stuff and Carina short of agreed on a relevant post about that the other day calling him an elitist and saying that this is why he always looses. And not just her. I see many people sharing this opinion. Do you think there's something "personal" against Elijah's character and that's why they chose to be against abuse just with haylijah? (that wasn't abusive btw)

Elijah, racist? That’s why his two first loves was a Tan girl (Tatia was born in MF, but if that was the case I’m sure her complection would have posed a problem) and a Black girl (Celeste, who also spoke fluent French)? And he practically took in a little black boy (Marcel) with Klaus and raised him? Erm. No. I have to disagree with that statement, because it just doesn’t make sense.

Also sure he would have had a problem with said little black boy dating his little sister too if that were the case.

But hey if we wanna talk about the writing and misrepresentation of POC characters on her shows well then pull up a chair, lmao. As a black woman myself, it’s something I can’t ignore when there’s characters on television who look like me and don’t get half the shit white characters do. And I dont say that to be like ‘woe is me’, cause its not that deep, and things are getting better but let me tell you, especially in JPs shows I’m yet to see a black character come out on top. No qualms, no repercussions. JS. 

And to be honest, I can’t even use Marcel as an example here, because the fact that he was raised in a white upper class family kinda gives off the air of, ‘he’s a black boy’ but he’s our black boy. You know? But then again, he was kicked to the curb real quick. I don’t wanna get deep, but just think about it lmao.

Do I think he’s an elitist? To some degree, yes. Though over the seasons I think he’s cared less and less about his status, especially with Hope in the picture, I truly believe he just wanted to make everyone happy and be somewhat ‘normal’. I don’t think that’s why he loses though, I think he loses because he doesnt know his worth. Everyone walks over that man, and he grabs his handkerchief, brushes himself off and does it all again. How abusive selfless.

Something personal against his character? Well considering the amount of times he’s died over the two shows, yes, cause that’s a joke in itself, and no. 

I think Elijahs character is underrated by many, the writers included, bare in mind when Daniel Gillies stepped on the scene as Elijah, he was supposed to be more of a hitman and had no ties to the Mikaelson family. The writers loved the dynamic he had with Joseph and decided to make them brothers with a challenging history. Daniels influences on the way Elijahs written is huge, because over all he shaped him, the writers worked with what he gave and then wrote for it. Daniel has managed to mould this character so perfectly complexed that it’s left a lot of room for us as viewers to be boggled by his mannerisms and actions over the years. He’s managed to go beyond the writing and add layers and layers to Elijahs persona that really almost always leaves him questionable, all whilst holding an air of nobility, poise and moral in his take on him. Its really beautiful, actually. 

He’s this weird beautiful beast, who shouldn’t act a way; but he does.

I think sometimes it comes across that the writers write Elijah in a way that makes him be a little bit of a push over. Yeah, his family is his weakness, that guy will do anything, anything to make sure his own are taken care of, no matter the circumstance, consequence or repercussion it brings. He’s a selfless character and everyone does or have in the past taken his kindness and loyalty for granted.

Thats why I was pissed when the abuse thing came about. Because like you said, it wasn’t abuse. It was something they managed to do and demonstrate with EVERY other character, the whole ‘new baby vamp, going off the rails’ and for some reason, that wasn’t okay for Elijah to have had? A season of not being with control? Lmao, ok.

Now do I think they chose to do it on purpose? No. Breaking Haylijah up, yes. I was looking out for that, the cast had hinted at it, and so did the writers and in all honesty, I think we all saw something coming… but as I’ve stated in previous posts, read JP’s trump/feminism statement and Carinas twitter responses to the backlash of it and then think it over. This was nothing more than personal bias and making a political statement, but as I’ve said, that plot line was rushed, poorly thought out, and they used a bad example to send a message. If you wanted to tackle domestic abuse, don’t do it on a show about vampires where the core of your fantasy universe is built upon a foundation of violence.

But then again all of us (fandom) are like, wait, this was stupid, lmao.

Elijahs not racist. Elijah doesn’t want power either; I mean the ‘Family is Power’ line did it for me. That’s all he’s ever wanted, so much so he erased his memories because he knew he’d be a threat to them if otherwise. 

Haylijah were a beautiful pair, Hayley didn’t need to treat him the way she treated him after the red door - bare in mind I said treated and not react, because at the end of the day she experienced the trauma, she’s allowed to be triggered and hurt by it- but the whole snubbing Elijah off after ALL he had done for her AND CONTINUED TO DO FOR HER REGARDLESS? Not cool Hayls... 

The writers are a lil stupid sometimes. Hopefully S5 will bring me joy. :)
