Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange: Important Announcement
Hey there, everyone. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to begin the process of closing the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange. The exchange will officially close on August 29th of next year (2024).
The primary reasons for this decision are a lack of funds and a lack of commitable time. The lack of funds in particular has made it impossible to keep up with annual increases in PO box pricing, ever-growing postage rates, and maintenance of required tech.
Please read on for further important information.
❤ Vex and Rebel
Sending Postcards
Current members are welcome and encouraged to continue sending postcards from now until July 1, 2024. This cut off date should allow mail from international members to reach us before our PO box closes at the end of August 2024.
Please remember to continue registering your received postcards!
Membership Management
Membership has been CLOSED and no new member applications will be accepted. Current members are still welcome to manage their membership through these forms:
Update Public & Private Information
Update Interest Profile
Update Gifting Information
Retire Membership
Fortune Friday
There will be one more members-only Fortune Friday event. It will occur on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Holiday Cheer
We are very sorry to announce that we will be unable to coordinate Holiday Cheer this year. We understand that Holiday Cheer has been a popular and appreciated event for the past three years and we apologize for any upset this change causes.
Additional Information
If you have any questions, the ask box is open.
Behind the Keep Reading cut below, you will find:
Any information we forgot to include when initially making this post. (Anything we missed will have its own separate post, but since this will be our Pinned post, we want it to be comprehensive.)
A more in-depth and personal explanation of our decision to close the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange, ways to keep in touch, and a thank you.
Explanation of Circumstances
The decision to close the MFPE came down to two things: money and time.
Since opening in August 2020, we have spent $1,260.09 in postage, $582 in PO box fees, and $180.31 on certain miscellaneous gifts to our members. That last number does NOT include the cost of things won from our Prize Vault, the cost of items distributed during our Member Appreciation Giveaway, or other gifts that were never itemized. In other words, far more has been spent than the $2,022.40 outlined above.
As of October 6, 2023, the MFPE has received $757.53 in donations, and we have been grateful for every penny. But the MFPE was never meant to run off of donations.
Why? Well, Vex (that's me) had a secure, stable, well-paying job for over a decade and expected to stay at said job until retirement. I definitely did not expect to become increasingly unable to work due to traumatic stress. In fact, when my therapist suggested I take a long break from work, I laughed and said it would be impossible. (Ha ha ha.) So instead of applying for the short- and long-term disability benefits I had access to at the time, I kept going and going until I suddenly reached my breaking point and quit my job in a fit of desperate frustration.
That is the simplified version of the story. The tl;dr version would be: I used to make money and now I don't.
But even if it were possible to fund the MFPE purely through donations, Rebel and I are still unable to commit the time.
Keep in Touch
If you would like to keep in touch, I am currently more active on Dreamwidth than anywhere else. A majority of posts are friends-only, but feel free to subscribe and request access (drop a comment saying you're from the MFPE!).
Other places you can find me are listed on my Fandom vCard.
Thank You
To our members, volunteers, and supporters: thank you for all of your kindness, interest, passion, and cheerleading throughout the years. It has meant more to me than I could possibly express and you have my endless gratitude.
Spread joy. Be kind to each other. Every small action has the potential to save someone's life.
❤ Vex

If you happened to spot the MFPE update today and wondered what the “unforeseen circumstances IRL” were:
CW: I don't even know at this point, so just tread carefully. Discussion of death, genetics, medical diagnoses, refusing treatment, etc.
My 52-year-old mother has an aneurysm lurking in her brain. We found out near the beginning of May, and it feels like I have lost an entire month.¹
My mom is only 16 years older than I am. The advantage of having a young mother was supposed to be that she would be here longer. But her father died at age 42 due to a ruptured aneurysm in his anterior cerebral artery. And we know that my mom has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder that can—among other things—weaken arterial walls.
The aneurysm will rupture. It is a genetic certainty, a dark inevitability, the final inheritance we have been quietly expecting.² The diagnosis of EDS we both share has only solidified this feeling, though we did not know until 2014 that any of our family had the disorder.
“But aren’t aneurysms usually treatable?” you may be asking. Yes, they often are. Yet even now, a month later, we do not know whether hers is treatable. Insurance has denied the follow-up scan at least twice now on a technicality, saying that the doctor’s office failed to provide all the necessary information. And usually, by now, I would have stepped in—I am an expert at dealing with insurance companies, after all—but she doesn’t want me to. Because regardless of the results, my mother is fairly certain she doesn’t want to do anything about the ticking time-bomb in her head.
Her quality of life has declined since 2018 when she suddenly could no longer work (my mother not able to work—the woman who was the textbook definition of a workaholic, the woman who was always busy and always building and always doing). She is terrified of being trapped in a body that brings her nothing but misery, and I do not blame her for it, because my own outlook is much the same.
(...But I am selfish and I don’t want her to die.)
I have been blessed with the perfect mother. She is quirky and amazing and mellow and hilarious and cute and hardworking and kind. She is sanity and stability and comfort and strength and the epitome of everything good and wonderful in this world. In my 35 years on this planet, I have been angry with her once.
I suppose I am gearing up to be angry with her a second time. Because anger is going to be the only thing that can mask the enormous grief I will feel when she is gone.
Anyway. I have made fic writing commitments through July, and those are my only fandom priority at this point. The MFPE is on the back burner, but I will try to get the postcards in the queue sent out to their recipients before the end of June. I know we didn't do our customary Mental Health Month event and I'm sad to say that Rebel and I may not have the spoons to do Holiday Cheer for 2023, either. If we do, it will be announced on on Tumblr (MFPE) and Dreamwidth (MFPE + Fandom Calendar).
FYI, I'm occasionally on Tumblr mindlessly reblogging, but I keep up better with my Dreamwidth reading page.
¹ I don’t believe I’m disassociating. But I have been reading constantly so that I do not have to think. (Fandom is saving my life once again. I read over 2.9 million words of fic in May.)
² Since I was a child, I have never really expected to live past age 60, due to my observations of my family’s longevity. But for some reason I was expecting my mom to be here until I was at least 50. (Hah—apparently I did not absorb the message of Proverbs 27:1 after all, despite the fact I recited it nearly every other Sunday [the KJV, of course] at my paternal grandfather’s cult gospel hall.)

Multi-Fandom Event: Holiday Cheer 2022
The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange is pleased to present its annual Holiday Cheer event where everyone 16 and older who is interested can receive physical holiday cards and/or postcards in their mailbox–all without having to share their mailing address with everyone!  And this year, you don’t have to be a member to participate! ❤
The Basics
You do not need to send cards in order to receive them!  We believe everyone deserves to be included, regardless of funds/ability/etc.
You also do not need to receive cards in order to send them.
You do not need to be a member of the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange.
Your address is PRIVATE–it is only shared with the MFPE’s two mods (not our volunteers).
Senders only have to pay the postage to get their package of cards to us; we pay the postage to get everything to the recipients.
Every effort will be made to have the cards delivered to the recipients before the 4th weekend of December.
The Schedule
Recipient Sign-ups: Oct 2 thru Oct 15 2022
Sender Sign-ups & Submissions: Oct 16 thru Nov 7 2022
Be sure to FOLLOW US for updates!  More info is under the cut.  Have questions?  Send us an ask!
Card Ratings
Everyone who signs up to receive cards will choose an overall content rating threshold for the cards they receive.  The two ratings are these:
I am comfortable receiving family-friendly cards only.  (No cursing, adult themes, etc.)
I am comfortable with cards featuring cursing, adult themes, adult humor, etc.
Card Categories
Recipients will also mark which categories of cards they are comfortable receiving.  This year, our categories are:
Hanukkah cards.
Both secular and pagan Winter Solstice cards.
Secular holiday cards, excluding "Merry Christmas."  ("Happy holidays," "season's greetings," etc. only.)
Secular holiday cards, including "Merry Christmas."
Christian Christmas cards. (These may include crosses, Bible verses, nativity scenes, etc.)
New Year cards.
Random fandom holiday cards (of any fandom, with the exception of those listed by the recipient).
Card Requirements
After sign-ups have closed, we will announce how many cards of each category have been requested.  Sender sign-ups will then open and the submission period will begin.  Senders are NOT required to create enough cards for everyone–they may create as many or as few as they like.
You can either use commercial cards/postcards or create your own.
You must write at least one sentence of your own text and sign the card with either your real first name or your fandom name.
You can include a personalized insert if you’d like.  When sending holiday cards, some people send out family photos/updates/etc.  You can choose to include anything you’re comfortable with.  Photos of pets are always welcome!
Cards do not all have to be the same.
Sending Cards
After completing the Sender Sign-up form and creating their holiday cards, senders should read through the following:
Before sending your package, you MUST complete the follow-up form to let us know how many cards you are sending, what categories they fall under, and what date they will be mailed.
All of your holiday cards should be packaged together and sent to the MFPE’s PO Box.  (We love it when you separate the cards by category with rubber bands or other means and then put a post-it note on each stack stating which category they fall under.  We love it, but it’s not necessary!)
You do not need to include envelopes, but if you have envelopes you’d like to donate to us, we certainly appreciate it!
You only have to pay the postage to get the package to us; we pay the postage to get everything to the recipients.

Housekeeping & reminders.
On October 5th, I reached out to 8 individuals who have signed up for the MFPE but not submitted their interest profile (or sent any postcards).  If they do not take action before October 31st, their fan numbers will be retired.
There are currently 3 fan number mailings waiting to be sent to new members.  As the issue with my printer has not been resolved, it may take a lot longer than usual to get them out.  In the meantime, new members can always submit their interest profile using their temporary fan number (located in your welcome email).  Also, you can always figure out whether or not your fan number mailing has been sent by viewing our Trello. (As of right now, the 3 new members are in the “Currently In Progress” column.)
We have a few postcards that are waiting to go out.  They may have to wait until next weekend, as I am likely to have to work this weekend.
If you have not yet signed up to receive holiday cards from our Holiday Cheer 2022 event, you have under two days to do so!  Read more about the event here.  After the window for signing up to be a recipient closes, the window to sign up to be a sender will begin!

Mental Health Month
Hey, everyone.  We know things are hard for a lot of people right now, and we are sending our love and good wishes to all of you.  We hope to have some postcards queued soon, and we will be celebrating Fortune Friday next week.
In the meantime, we have a small giveaway for you as well as some resources.
Giveaway
We have purchased a new deck of Thera-pet cards by Kate Allan (@thelatestkate) and would like to mail at least one card to each of you.  To ensure your card will be helpful or inspiring to you in particular, we have set up a survey for you to fill out.  You can fill out the giveaway survey here.  The survey will be available all month.
Resources
@attainablerecovery has a Google drive full of books on trauma and dissociation, including a couple of titles that have been recommended to me again and again by therapists: "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk and "Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving" by Pete Walker (which we gave away copies of last year!).  Please consider reblogging @attainablerecovery‘s pinned post to spread this valuable resource.  (Yes, this is me giving you permission to pirate for your own mental health.)
I wish I had the energy to provide more resources, but you can find a worldwide list of suicide crisis lines here and, if you’re located in the United States, you can find a list of warmlines here (for when you just need to talk to someone).  And again, if you’re in the United States, you can find more resources at NAMI or Mental Health America.
Take good care of yourselves, everyone. ♥

Just stumbled upon this community and I think it's a lovely idea! Quick question regarding the holiday exchange though - it says you can participate without being a member or sending a postcard. How does that work? I can't even see anyone's interests... or maybe I'm just not looking in the right place?
Hello there, lovely anon! We're so glad you've stumbled upon our community and we hope you enjoy your stay!
As you mentioned, anyone can sign up for Holiday Cheer, even if they aren't a member of the MFPE! Recipient sign up is here and is open through October 15th. Sender sign up will open on October 17th.
During our Holiday Cheer (@holiday-cheer-2021) event, participants can send/receive (either, or both) holiday cards for the December holidays. These do not necessarily have to be fandom-related, though they can be. Cards can fall under one of the following categories, and recipients will be able to choose which types of cards they are open to receiving from this list:
Secular holiday cards, excluding "Merry Christmas." ("Happy holidays," "season's greetings," etc. only.)
Secular holiday cards, including "Merry Christmas."
Christian Christmas cards. These may include crosses, Bible verses, nativity scenes, etc.
Both secular and pagan Winter Solstice cards.
New Year cards.
Random fandom holiday cards (of any fandom, with the exception of those listed by the recipient).
Running the MFPE (where we have 90 members with nearly 450 fandoms) has shown us that trying to get our member base to create unique fandom cards tailored to every other member's tastes would be extremely difficult, which is why you have the option of receiving random fandom holiday cards.
Note that if you want to send holiday-themed fandom cards that cater to individual tastes, you can do that by becoming a member of the MFPE and browsing our member directory. We accept postcards and cards all year long, and some individuals enjoy sending holiday-themed cards throughout the year!
We hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

A few things.
Hey there, everyone!  I hope you’re all having a wonderful October so far!
It occurred to me that I completely forgot to do the butterfly Sticker Sunday, even after specifically stating it would happen on a certain weekend.  Since this is the second time it’s been skipped, I’m going to go ahead and put it on hold for the foreseeable future (and not announce it again until I have photos of the stickers and have actually set up the event).  Apologies for dropping the ball on this!  (My mind was clearly on getting the new layout up.)
Recipient sign ups for our Holiday Cheer event are open, so don’t forget to sign up if you’re interested in receiving holiday cards in December!  This event is open to EVERYONE, not just members, and you can choose the types of cards you receive.  (Signal boosting our pinned Holiday Cheer post is appreciated!)
We’re also celebrating our one-year anniversary with an Anniversary Giveaway.  This event is members-only, but anyone can still join in the fun as long as they submit their membership application and interest profile during the giveaway.  (Signal boosting the event is certainly appreciated.  If you’d like to support the MFPE, please also consider reblogging our pinned post.)
We are planning a Count Your (Fandom) Blessings event for November, so keep an eye out for details in the coming weeks!
Finally, a huge shout-out to the following people:
Our wonderful volunteers.  We are so grateful for the time and effort you put into this project! ❤
Those of you who have sent in postcards recently.  The PO Box has sat empty for a few weeks, and it was lovely to check it and find something there!  Your efforts keep the MFPE alive!
Those of you who don’t have the time/energy/ability to send postcards.  We see you and we love you! ❤  (And we’re often totally there with you.)
Any of you who are having a rough time.  If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.  We are happy to signal boost posts for members experiencing financial hardship who are trying to crowdsource funds, as well as posts detailing member art commission prices, etc.  Just send us an email or an ask!

Announcements!
Hey there, everyone!  We have a few announcements, but first Rebel and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words (and Fox for the lovely card!) following Rebel’s trip to the hospital. ❤
We’ve noticed that the MFPE has quieted down quite a bit, so you may notice you receive even fewer postcards than before.  But we’re still here, and our volunteers are still preparing the postcards you see posted every day!  (Or at least mostly every day--if a few days are skipped here and there, that’s entirely my fault!)
Envelopes
Going forward, all postcards will be sent out in envelopes.  This is due to the fact that our local post office is adamant about running the cards through a machine, which puts markings on both the top and bottom of the postcard, which in turn makes it difficult to read.
Even when I pay extra to have the postcards hand cancelled (which would leave a lovely mark through the stamp but leave the rest of the card untouched), my local post office gives me a lot of grief about it.  And since it is difficult for me to get to the post office that’s farther away but has kinder service, the solution seems to be to simply send everything in an envelope going forward.
My sincerest apologies to those of you who are postcard collectors and who prefer their postcards be stamped and sent directly.
Member Directory
We have some new members as well as some updates to existing members that need to be processed, but our member directory is filled to the brim as far as Tumblr is concerned.  Tumblr has a maximum character count for custom pages, and unfortunately this is the second or third time we have reached it and been forced to make concessions.
This time around, in order to save space, our member trophies are going to have to be removed.  They’re the things that look like this:
Tumblr media
and can be toggled on and off depending on what the member has done.
Over the weekend, we will be editing our Member Directory to remove these trophies, and that will hopefully buy us enough space to add our new members and edit our existing ones.  Apologies to those who have been waiting!
Events
Sticker Sunday will finally be held this Sunday!  Our stickers this time around are NOT fandom themed.  One of our members generously donated quite a few stickers, so our theme this Sunday is butterflies.
Holiday Cheer 2021 is accepting recipient sign-ups through October 15th, and will be accepting sender sign-ups on from October 17th through November 7th.  This year the event is open to non-MFPE members, so it has its own special Tumblr.  Be sure to follow us over there if you’re interested in a bit of holiday cheer in December!
We have an event called Count Your (Fandom) Blessings planned for November, so keep an eye out for that!
I know it’s a little early to announce this, but next year I will be hosting another charity auction through MDZS Fans Against Hate.  So if you’re a fan of MDZS/CQL/The Untamed, be sure to follow that page!

MFPE: Jun 26 2021 Updates
New fan alert!  Check out Fan 643A!
Fandoms updated for Fan 6641.
Some fandoms removed for Fan 3467.
Rebel and I are happy to announce that as of Monday, June 28th, we will reach a new milestone: 400 postcards forwarded!  As of our 400th postcard, we will have spent a total of $263.89 on postage for postcard forwarding.
But postcard forwarding isn't the only postage we pay for!  We also pay for postage for all of our events, which have so far included Holiday Cheer, Mental Health Month, Fortune Fridays, Sticker Sundays, and three wonderful raffles!  As of this post, we have spent a total of $811.07 on all postage.
We have spent this amount because we believe in radical kindness.  The MFPE is open to everyone, regardless of whether they have enough money to send postcards themselves and regardless of where they live in the world.
We want to acknowledge that we are so very grateful to those who have chosen to donate to the MFPE.  We have received $256.11 in support through direct funds as well as stamp donations.  If you have the means, please consider donating to our Ko-Fi.  If you don’t have the means, you are still just as welcome here, and we are glad to have you with us.
Much love to all of you.
- Vex (and Rebel)
