Alright! Another entry for a Monster High OC competition, this time @golden.boi.draws69 Boo Generation Fierce Freshies!
Since one of the main traits of dhampirs in folklore is their having a soft body or even no bones at all, I’ve been marinating the idea of a dhampir with the monster equivalent of EDS for a while.
I hadn’t planned on them being a fan kid, but when I was looking through the existing MH vampires I remembered that Draculaura’s cousin Thad from Ghouls Rule exists and really liked how a Dracula being their dad added to their whole drama. Then it was a matter of choosing a human from that movie and of course I had to go with the most dramatic option.
Anyway time for some design tidbits:
In Bulgarian folklore glog (hawthorn) is used to refer to vampire children and their descendants, whereas Nathaniel Hawthorne changed his last name from “Hathorne” to separate himself from his great-great-grandfather judge John Hathorne, who was one of the judges who oversaw the Salem Witch Trials.
The silver jewelry on their arms is based on real jewelry splints.
It’s faint, but Hawthorne got a bit of the sparkly vampire genes from their dad.
Their fashion and especially their love of embroidery was inspired by the traditional fashion of the Balkans, where real life Dhampir myths come from.
Their piercings are supposed to look like ticks, ‘cause bloodsucker.
I'm gonna have to ask you to take a step back O_o What's going on in the monster high fandom?!
The creator of Monster High did a Q&A on instagram, and of course people be askin' about sexuality so he said he planned to make Clawdeen and Neighthan gay, but obviously Mattel didn't allow it. I'm not sure if he was let go or left on his own, but he doesn't work on MH anymore
Canonically Clawdeen only showed attraction/romantic interest in Thad and Raythe (who are both male) and Neighthan has a crush on Frankie (who is female)
But I bet some people in the fandom are gonna be harassing/insulting others who ship Clawdeen with male characters or Neighthan with females, just like they do in other fandoms when creators '''confirm''' stuff.
MHGU was my first MH and it made me fall in love with the series instantly, so it's not a bad choice for a first game, but you have to keep in mind that it is an "old school" MH without several QoL that they put in MHW, so take it easy and DO THE TUTORIALS. Thad said, it's one of the MH with the most content, over a 100 big monsters to hunt, it took me amost 200 hours to finish the main storyline (though there's not much story in MH in general) and I had a blast! I don't think you'll regret it.
Thanks aaaaa all of you have been so kind in replying to that post. I've always wanted to get into MH because the designs for the monsters are SO GOOD. I think I will try it out!
