I don’t normally post art stuffs that are this “in progress”, but I’ve gotten a few asks about my typical process, and I guess my current big project is a good way to show it. (As you can maybe/hopefully see, I’m drawing the Six of Crows squad, and yes, that is what I’ve named my ArtRage file, because that book is squad goals x 1000). Still quite a bit of work to go, obvs, but yep. This is what half-finished Gillian stuff looks like. Lots of messy blue lines and twenty minutes spent obsessing over the placement of Kaz’s nose (only to keep it exactly where I’d originally drawn it, naturally)
All actual drawing/painting business is done with a Wacom tablet, because those things are of the gods

OH HEY FUN STORY TIME THIS BLOGGER IS ACTUALLY ME
I felt super awkward at first because I’m so not the type of person who does things like go up to strangers and demand they reveal their names (I’d be TERRIBLE at serving legal papers, I’d feel really guilty and end up apologizing and taking the papers back and buying them coffee or something) but Victoria was very nice and friendly
So yes, I was indeed on a London-bound flight with both Victoria Aveyard and Draco Malfoy, and if that plane had flown us all to Middle Earth via Narnia I would not have been surprised. That’s how surreal it was. Like I’d get up to go to the bathroom and it’d be like OH HEY, JUST...PASSING DRACO MALFOY, ON THE WAY TO THE TOILET, HOPE THERE’S NO MOANING MYRTLE IN THERE HAHAHA I’M SO CASUAL ABOUT THIS, because after sitting in a metal box for 10 hours and being on your way to pee is a great time to meet your childhood crushes
Have you ever been recognised outside of book events? Are you at that level of fame yet?
I’ve been recognized a grand total of once. I was on a flight from LA to London and a very lovely blogger asked if I was Victoria Aveyard. I thought she was going to serve me legal papers.
Fun fact: Draco Malfoy was on the flight, two seats away, and in the back of my head I was like YOU SHOULD’VE RECOGNIZED ME IN FRONT OF DRACO!!
:)

Inktober, Day 8: Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows by @lbardugo, aka the newest #1 NYT BESTSELLER ENDLESS CONGRATULATIONS AND SO DESERVED
I’m completely obsessed with this book. It’s dark and twisted and full of action and it’s about A HEIST and my god i love heist stories. I also love motley crew, found family, ragtag misfits coming together stories, and this is that, but with a darker edge. And the world is just so insanely richly rendered and full of detail, and the cHARACTERS. I. Love. Them. Every one of them. And it is ship central, because not only will you love them all, but you’ll love them all TOGETHER (and want them to make out all the time)

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Just like Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, I am BACK and ready to BLOW SHIZZ UP! or, you know, doodle a few things which is ALMOST as cool as forcefully reclaiming my kingdom and murdering ALL WHO HAVE WRONGED ME but to say I live my life on a sliiightly smaller scale than the Queen of Terrasen is a bit of an understatement.
ANYHOO, I missed you, Tumblr! Life has been crazy busy (I was out of the country for a WHOLE MONTH), and I’ve barely had time to do any arting (minus these cool things I made for the Queen of Shadows blog tour, go take a looksy, you can buy things yay for things!)
I really want to be back into regularly drawing. The weather FINALLY turned the slightest bit cool here in Los Angeles, and that makes me want to be very arty and indoorsy and productive. So i decided to belatedly join INKTOBER, wherein arty types make an ink sketch a day to keep the laziness away. Blank page, micron pens, pure desperation inspiration, et voila.
Starting my Inktober off with my one true queen from Queen of Shadows by @sjmaas, which I read in the rain in Spain and stayed mainly in the PLAINLY AWESOME PAGES OF THIS BOOK

What about YA fantasy? Do you have any YA fantasy authors and/or series that you would absolutely recommend to anyone?
*pushes back sleeves* *rubs hands together* *cracks knuckles*
OKAY YOU ASKED FOR YA FANTASY AND IMMA GIVE YOU YA FANTASY ARE YOU READY
YA fantasy is my true love. it is my heart’s breath. It is all that is good and pure in this world.

Shadow and Bone aka the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo because HOLY WORLDBUILING BATMAN and also Sturmhond my husband i want you to do unspeakable things to me I mean what
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman because d r a g o n s
TAMORA. BLOODY. PIERCE. To say her Tortall books were seminal to my childhood–to my LIFE–would be an understatement. Start with Alanna and then go chronologically through all the series and watch your life be changed forever by bad ass heroines and OTPs you are welcome
THE WRATH. AND. THE. DAWN. BY RENEE AHDIEH. I COULD BELLOW ABOUT THIS BRILLIANT BOOK UNTIL THE STARS TURNED COLD BUT I’LL JUST LET MY REVIEW SPEAK FOR ME
And then there are books I call “crack fantasies” where like your whole brain is consumed by them and you want to eat it whole and for me those are books like The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, THE STORYSPINNER BY BECKY WALLACE YES YES YES, The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows, and Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White
Then there are some newer fantasy releases, like Valiant by Sarah McGuire which is A+ adorable, UPROOTED BY NAOMI NOVIK WHICH IS MORE AN ADULT FANTASY BUT IT’S SO GOOD THAT MY BRAIN GOES ALL EXCLAMATION POINTY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT DEAR GIDDY GOD READ IT, Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine which is a truly bizarre and wonderful and dark book SEMI BASED ON PHANTOM OF THE OPERA meets a Chinese factory of all things, Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, and Poison by Bridget Zinn which is so adorable you’ll be squealing like a piglet
AND THEN there are the lower fantasy books set in our world but with MAGICKS
CHIEF OF WHICH IS THE RAVEN BOYS BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER BECAUS THAT SERIES IS MY WHOLE LIFE
Wish I was even a little bit joking about that but there you are
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan part of the Lynburn Legacy by Sarah Rees Brennan GOTHIS BRITISH MAGIC WARLOCKS MURDER SECRETS JOKES
YES JOKES
The adorable Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson which comes out super soon and has ALTERNATE 1890′s MAGICAL STEAMPUNK NEW YORK and the most adorable boy
The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black which has evil faeries and a lady knight and a cute gay ship and a horned prince
MAGONIA BY MARIA DAHVANA HEADLEY THIS BOOK IS ON THE WILDEST DRUGS AND I LOVE IT
The Falconer by Elizabeth May which is set in Victorian Scotland and is basically Buffy the EVIL FAE slayer
EDIT: THE GIRL AT MIDNIGHT BY MELISSA GREY IT’S FABULOUS AND YOU SHOULD READ IT
and though these don’t really need more hype, I’d be remiss not to mention my deep love for Vampire Academy and Bloodlines though they’re really more paranormal than fantasy, but especially the latter because SYDRIAN
and then, of course, PERCYYYYYYYY
and, of course of course of course HARRY FREAKIN’ POTTER, because if you haven’t read Harry Potter…

Yes do do draw more. *urges you on* I shan't disturb you anymore, lovely artist.
Thank you for your abrupt chivalry, lovely abrupt-chivalry :) And messages are never disturbing! Unless you tell me that you don’t ship Pynch or Harry Potter is garbage. That would be disturbing.

I really love your style it's great :) (Also your guys are fab! I'm horrible at drawing guys HA!)
Thank you so much!
I’ve have alllllways preferred drawing girls to guys. I think it’s because I naturally like to draw swirls and rounded shapes, which is more conducive to the stereotypical female form. Seriously, all my freeform doodles are circles. Or maybe it’s just because girls are awesome and YAY GIRLS But I think the trick to drawing dudes is all straight lines and angles. And cheekbones. I am very pro dude cheekbones.
(I checked out your tumblr and your art is LOVELY btw

By request: Red Queen by vaveyard. Silver prince, red queen.
Wooo, lots of RQ requests in ye olde inboxe. I may technically ship Mare and Cal, but Mare and Maven’s dynamic is my favorite in the book. Plus I feel like their official royal portrait things would be hilariously awkward.
Photographer: SMILE, LADY TITANOS
Mare: *contemplates striking photographer with lightning*
(While I was at BEA I was without my drawing pad and only had pens and colored pencils. It was pretty fun going “back to basics”)
