one day i’ll learn how to drop headcannons thats not basically word vomit that needs to be put under a read more but today is not that day
n e ways random headcannons about some muses childhoods + how it translated to their adult relationships w parents. it’s long i just went wild <3
yuya is probably the only muse that has an actual good relationship with his parents. both parents were there most of his childhood & supported him as much as possible (but to be honest, he’s a mama’s boy through & through). although when yuya was around 15, his father died; nothing that could be blamed on anyone, just an accident. at that young of an age, it was harder to process. he didn’t have anyone to blame, had nowhere to put his anger. this contributed to him finding black thunder, where he wasn’t the nicest leader. he was able to hide it from his mother for a while, her contributing his anger & lack of presence at home purely to his father’s death, but it’s hard to hide being part of a gang for long. being latina who has lived in both in mexico & los angeles, it’s safe to say she was extremely disappointed in him.
her disappointment did help his eventual leaving of the gang & willingness to let kazuki help him in the matter. the gig at stardust was better than he ever expected & fixed his relationship with his mother. she likes his job & even considers kazuki like another son, always wanting to invite him over for dinner. yuya still lives with her, having to take care of her in her older age. he doesn’t mind & thinks its adorable when his mother greets him with a little “mi chiquito rico” every time he comes home since he’s started working as a host.
---
kido has the next best “relationship”, but just with his father. his mother left not long after he turned 7, leaving him, his father, & 1 year old sister alone. his father tried his best, but had a hard time being home with having to work a lot to provide. this pretty much turned kido into a “latchkey” kid, as well as turning into a second parent to his little sister. he was the one who made sure she always made it to school on time, had dinner every night, & helped her with her homework. this was extremely hard on him growing up, essentially having to grow up so fast to be able to care of himself, his sister, & occasionally his father who was too tired to do simple things such as laundry or even cook for himself.
his joining the yakuza later in life had a lot to do with helping his family, which also contributed to breaking it. much like the situation with mikio, his father didn’t like his association with the yakuza & would rather he be around if he were to stay. kido’s decision is obvious, & ended up leaving them. though he still sends money to them & despite his father’s initial dislike towards it, he can tell his father has forgiven him since then. he can see it when he comes to watch them every once & while to check up on them; it’s nice to see the bags under his father’s eyes lessen every time, & the nice new backpack or shoes he sees his little sister leave the house with.
he doesn’t talk about them, doesn’t bring them up & refuses to talk about them if questioned. as far as anyone knows, he doesn’t have a family. the only person he would trust with this information is arai or maybe hana, but even then he wouldn’t tell them everything.
---
shinji obviously has a very BAD relationship with his parents; his father being an abusive, & his mother leaving due to this. as far as shinji cares, his father could die. he doesn’t care of what may have happened to him since he left to drown in his own mistakes.
his mother, though, is a bit of a different story. while he resents her for leaving, he doesn’t blame her for doing so, especially since he’s gotten older. he did try to look for her once he joined the yakuza. just wanting to know why didn’t she take him with her; he hopes it was because his father wouldn’t let her, just to give her the benefit of the doubt. the only memories he has of her, ones that were just him & her, were always sweet. he’s tried to block out most of his childhood, but never those memories of her.
but shinji is not immune to pessimism. he can’t help the ideas that he’s actually remembering things wrong, & that she doesn’t care about him as much as he hopes. maybe this is in part to why he’s never found her. he’s too scared of the truth.
---
tanimura idolizes his father taigi a lot, that much is obvious, & wouldn’t dream of replacing him. but zhao is very much a father to him as well. he loves him like one, treats him like one, etc. zhao is the one who raised him, made sure he had a roof over his head, food in his belly, was there for him everytime he got in trouble at school. he was a good father. without him, he doubts he’d really be the man he is today. & all the children he adopts/watches out for tanimura sees as siblings, as you can tell with mei hua. out of all of them he is closest with her, though. she’s the only one he buys presents for or will take out to spend time with. extremely protective over her, & has scared a boy or two off for breaking her heart.
---
kaoru, not unlike tanimura, loved & saw people who weren’t her blood as her real family. although, she did have much more of a curiosity about them than tanimura (more specifically her father, since she already knew her birth mother died), which turned into more of a sadness. not unlike ryuji, she was a troubled kid. wasn’t sweet or gentle like most girls her age. always prickly. she got into her fair share of fights as a kid, be it because someone pissed her off or because she was trying to protect someone who couldn’t protect themselves.
when she did finally get to meet her birth father, she was initially happy. though after his & ryuji’s death, she was much less happy. she understands that it would have been hard for him to see her, she just doesn’t understand why he didn’t make more of an effort. & all the time they spent together, before the reveal, where he acted like an asshole for most of it. then she sees him as part of the why she didn’t get to her brother sooner. in short, she has a slight resentment towards the man.

Latinx Jason Todd
Sorry it’s taken a while to post this, but here they are finally.
Under a read more, because it’s a lot.
Jason Todd is Latinx - Puerto Rican specifically (yes this is me projecting)
His family is from Carolina, which is right next to the capital, San Juan
He’s only been to Puerto Rico 2 or 3 times total, but he could give a decent tour of the big tourist attractions in San Juan (El Morro and Old San Juan for example) because those are the places that he’s been to every single time he’s been to the island
There are a lot of places on the island that he has yet to visit and would love to visit at some point, specifically El Yunque
He doesn’t pretend to know anything about the places he hasn’t been to yet
Jason speaks English and Spanish fluently
He learned both at the same time, so they’re technically both his first language, but the first words out of his mouth were in Spanish
He doesn’t have a noticeable accent, and doesn’t think he has one at all, but it does come out a bit if he’s spent all day speaking in Spanish, but even then it’s still kind of difficult to notice
He’s self conscious about his Spanish
Having been born and raised in Gotham, he had to put more of a focus on learning English in order to go to school. It was to the point where, because he wasn’t using his Spanish, he forgot a lot of it and had to relearn it later.
People still tell him that he speaks Spanish with an American accent (which isn’t actually true, because he speaks it with a Puerto Rican accent) which makes him try to pronounce things in as heavy of a Puerto Rican accent as possible.
Jason doesn’t actually speak much Spanglish
Depending on who he’s speaking to, his brain just switches languages
If he’s speaking to an English speaker, he speaks in English, while if he’s speaking to a Spanish speaker, he speaks in Spanish
This does pose issues sometimes, because switching back and forth sometimes does make him speak English when he’s trying to speak Spanish or vice versa.
The exception to this is if he’s speaking to someone he knows is bilingual, in which case he’s likely to speak in Spanglish
He does that often with Kori, who also speaks Spanish
Both of them practice speaking Spanish with Roy, because he’s learning to speak Spanish
An exception to the general “not much Spanglish” would be if he forgets a word in English, he might say it in Spanish or vice versa
Only people living in the Wayne Manor as well as Kori and Roy, maybe a few others, have heard him speaking in Spanglish actively
He does do this with people he feels comfortable around
Jason does sing in Spanglish tho, and he’s a pretty good singer
Despite not speaking much Spanglish, Jason does give people nicknames in Spanish pretty often
Alfred has been given the nickname “abu” which is usually given to grandmothers as a shortened version “abuela,” but Jason uses it as a shortened version of “abuelo” for Alfred
More often than not, he referred to Bruce as “pa” which is a shortened form of “padre” meaning “dad” as opposed to “father”
Jason tried to call Dick “Rickie,” commonly short for “Ricardo,” being the Spanish equivalent of Richard
This didn’t work, and Jason ended up just settling for calling him Dick, sometimes “hermano”
Generally speaking, the younger Robins get referred to as “pequeño/a,” “niño/a” or “chiquito/a” the first and last being “little” or “small” and the middle meaning “kid”
Kori and Roy have both gotten very sappy, romantic nicknames
Both have received “cariño/mi cariño” and “amor/mi amor” both meaning “love/my love”
Kori often gets “princesa” (princess) or “mi cielo” (my sun/sky/light that brightens my day, depending on intention)
Roy generally gets nicknames that are soft like “mi flor” (my flower) and “mariposa” (butterfly)
Generally speaking, the nicknames given to Kori and Roy are related to either something very meaningful or something Jason thought was just very fitting’
For example, Kori gets “princesa” because she’s literally a princess, so Jason saw it as fitting, while she gets “mi cielo” because she brings light to Jason’s life, making him incredibly happy. Roy gets “mi flor” or “mariposa” because Jason thinks he’s beautiful, but also delicate. Sometimes he uses “mi cielo” for Roy and “mi flor” or “mariposa” for Kori, because they fit both of them tbh.
Jason can dance, but not well
Everyone assumes he’d be able to dance salsa or the faster dances, but he’s a complete klutz when it comes to dancing, and can’t keep up very well. He’s much better at the slower bachata and merengue.
He prefers bachata because the lyrics in bachata songs usually have more meaning and in general are more poetic
They’re also usually sappier love songs, and usually just feel more meaningful to dance to, and Jason can kind of teach other people to dance it
He loves dancing to slow bachata songs with Roy and Kori
When he thinks no one is listening, Jason sings in Spanish
This especially happens when he thinks people are sleeping
He typically sings lullabies when he thinks people are sleeping
Most commonly, you can hear him singing “Una Mariposita,” because he remembers his mom singing it to him when he was really young
He will put on music while doing things (cleaning, thinking - so he’s not left to just silence) and usually ends up singing along
Roy has taken to listening to Spanish music so he can sing along with Jason whenever he gets the chance
there’s more to these! if you wanna hear, please let me know!
