Okay, the trailer for Raya just popped up yesterday (Philippine Standard Time, lol) and the first thing I did after watching the trailer, aside from freaking out, is to check out the new faces in the film. While I'm happy that Asians are getting that Disney rep we deserve and that we have Gemma Chan on board, I also noticed that the majority of the cast are East Asian or are of East Asian descent.

While I'm not angry, I am kinda disappointed since it kinda sidelines SEA talents. But since I like to fancast, I decided to fix the casting and give my two-cents on who should have been on that role. So without further ado, my fancast for Raya and The Last Dragon...

Ok I was at Nesscon today where Sean Cw Johnson and Alison MacInnis were guests and here are just a few bits of important info I got from both the panel and meeting them in person later;

-Alison’s favourite episode to film was Go Volcanic because a) she got to wear trousers and kick ass (Dana wore a mini skirt for most of the show so it limited her unmorphed fighting) and b) that was the only episode of PR in general where the villain was a normal human with an actual gun.

-Sean’s favourite is Operation Lightspeed because it was the first episode that started it all but his opinion changes from time to time.

-No one in the main cast knew how to do the morphing call. The proper first time was all five of them in front of cameras and many people in Universal with no showing of how it was done (apart from Sasha, Kelsey’s actress). It was more complicated initially (with one of the stuntmen showing them) but eventually the final call was the more shortened version.

-The spandex outfits are locked away somewhere in the Disney vaults.

-The stuntmen they got were really good. Like, really good. The first episode where Carter jumps out of a burning building did not go to plan and the stuntman did actually get caught up in the fireball that went off too early. Years later, when filming the Legendary Battle in Super MegaForce, the stuntmen would do Power Rangers one day, The Hobbit the next.

-Alison took a Do Not Enter sign back from set and a bunch of fake magazine covers from the episode where Dana becomes a model.

-Both the girls were really impressed with the spandex outfit when first trying them on but when they went to the boys trailer, they were shy and didn’t want to come out in the spandex.

-Alison was fresh out of High School and auditioned seven times over seven weeks were they tried to see which ranger she looked best with (that’s p much a part of the PR casting process). Sean, for some reason, was cast after a couple of auditions.

-Michael Chaturantabut is the master of everything. Kickboxing, karate, knitting, you name it!

-Alison’s favourite seasons of PR (besides Lightspeed) are Mystic Force and RPM.

-Alison has a crush of Diabolico and wants to see a cosplay of Vypra.

-Sean, Michael and Keith regularly slept in Alison’s trailer when she was filming Dana focused scenes. Not at the same time though. I think?

At this point are bits and pieces I remember from talking to them while I was not gushing and jittery from being star struck;

-They’re enjoying Scotland very much and love how nice the people are, especially in comparison to London.

-French people are also very nice and completely shatter their stereotypes.

-Sometimes they forget the names of the characters of the show and asked me if I knew Ms Fairweather’s and Captain Mitchell’s first names (I did not).

-I was offered a chair since they weren’t busy but I declined because…well, jittery.

-Alison like my shirt from Primark.

-Sean wrote a long and lovely message when signing his autograph and I’m still overwhelmed with joy.

In short, BEST DAY EVER!
