Overview: Living Forms is the result of erasing personal identity in public spaces. The passerby is treated as an ambiguous body that inhabits a specific time frame, in daily life situations. Considering the living dynamics of certain public spaces, in what ways can technology help disrupt our modes of perception? By removing private connotations we intend to allow the spectator to “fill in the gaps” and create a new reality, witnessing the public space from a different perspective. With these series of videographic experiments, we attempted to open the imagery to multiple interpretations, through the narrative proposed at every public encounter.

Context: The experiments were filmed in Lisbon (PT) in collaboration with the painter Xavier Ovídio. The video-art series has been installed and screened at the Eye’s Walk Digital Festival (GR); Video Art Miden (GR); Lefktron Castle Beaufort Festival (GR); AVSD Audiovisual Sem Destino (BR); Video Medeja Festival (RS); Under the Subway Video Art Night (USA, ES, BE, CU).

Está nevando en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Comienza septiembre con nieve, unos de los inviernos más irreales de la vida que recordaremos. Me pregunto si será el último que compartiré con mis padres. La certeza de saberlos vivos me agobia. No puedo dejar de pensar que cada cosa pueda ser la última que comparta con ellos. Es absurdo, no pienso en la mía. Siempre pienso en la muerte de la gente que quiero. En todo lo que quiero decirles y les digo. En todo lo que haría, y hago. Y en como nada de todo eso, alcanza. Ese agujero infinito, como la vida a los seis años, que es el amor. A los quince mi hermana me gritó ‘vomitá mierda’ y para siempre hubo un antes y un después. Los mismos quince que durante todo un año tuve un resfrío descomunal con mocos amarillos y espesos que me tragaba porque no tenía dónde escupir en el colectivo que me llevaba al Normal Nº 1 de señoritas (así se le decía) producto de una tos que me daba más vergüenza que otra cosa. No podía aguantar sin toser más de dos minutos. Respiraba profundo, contenía todo lo que podía y me explotaban los ojos de lágrimas y el pecho de presión. Tosía y tragaba esas babosas que hoy pasean por mi cocina cada vez que bajo a buscar agua de madrugada. Recuerdo a mi abuelo decir: esta chica no puede vivir resfriada. Para cuando me llevaron al hospital, la tos convulsa que tenía sólo podía curarse con aplicaciones de antibióticos administrados en el glúteo. A las inyecciones me las ponía mi padre (médico y jefe de urgencias de ese hospital). Yo prefería el dicho ‘en casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo’ que ‘es todo de la cabecita’, que me decía siempre. Esos años no se miden en tiempo porque son una existencia concreta de presente intenso. Para el festival de inyecciones ya había escrito una colección de poesía que superaba el centenar. Todas pasadas a máquina para la carpeta que mi abuelo atesoraba en la cajonera de su pieza. Primer cajón de la derecha. Tapas negras de plástico duro. Doble gancho. Escribía a mano, y, cuando me regaló su máquina de escribir, las escribía ahí. El mismo año escribí ‘Poema a los mal nacidos’ en la clase de ciencias sociales. La profesora me vio y dijo que lo leyera en voz alta: cuatro hojas maldiciendo la doble moral. Todavía tengo uno de los dos originales (el otro está en Ushuaia, en casa de María Isabel, amiga de esos años a quien se lo regalé como ofrenda). A los diecisiete todo fue un poco más veloz. Sexo, amor y alcohol. A los dieciocho, con la universidad en la cara, el frío de la Siberia me importaba un pito y las noches sin sueño y los amores perdidos. Los diecinueve y los veinte fueron casi uno. Los años más felices de mi vida, cuando conocí a Carlos, a quien amé más que nadie, y con quien me casé sin saber que eso es un lazo que nunca más te sacás de encima. A los veintidós, recién casada, me subí a ese auto del comienzo y solo me dediqué a trabajar hasta tomar el avión a Nueva Zelanda diez años atrás, donde empecé a escribir de nuevo, como cuando tenía seis.

In a kitchen background, following the process of connecting audio and verbal elements borrowed from the cinema, the video deals with the boundaries of privacy and public, along with the boundaries between fantasy and reality.

Living Forms is the result of erasing personal identity in public spaces. The common passerby is therefore an ambiguous body that inhabits a specific time frame in daily life situations. By removing private connotations we intend to allow the spectator to “fill in the gaps” and create a new reality, witnessing the public space from a different perspective. By means of various animation rotoscoping techniques, applied frame-by-frame, we attempted to open the imagery to multiple interpretations through the narrative proposed at every encounter.

Video Art Miden

Miden is an independent organization for the exploration and promotion of video art.

Founded by an independent group of Greek artists in 2005, it has been one of the earliest specialized video-art festivals in Greece and builded an international festival identity,

presenting an annual video art festival for a decade. Since 2015, Miden continues its work

changing its form to a more flexible and broadened event programming, setting as basic aims

to stimulate the creation of original video art, to help spread it and develop relevant research.

Through collaborations and exchanges with major international festivals and organizations,

it has been recognized as one of the most successful and interesting video art platforms

internationally and as an important cultural exchange point for Greek and international

video art. It also provides an alternative meeting point for emerging and established artists

and a communication hub between artists, organizations, festivals and art spaces around the

world.

Miden screening programs have traveled in many cities of Greece and all over the world, and

they are hosted by significant festivals, museums and institutions globally.
