★ Was recommended by Joy and also River because they said Mitski's songs were amazing.

★ The both didn't disappoint because it was absolutely mind-breaking

★ Doesn't Really understand the meaning but likes the sounds of the beats and lyrics so there's that!!! Of course, heard Mitski from River.

★ The cats seems to like the songs though, so Hayden will usually steal River's phone to play songs for them.

★ Favorite is My Love Mine All Mine since its calming, reminds him of those highschool musicals prom scenes, and his mum used to sing in the same soft voice a lot. Might get emotional.

“A un certo punto accadde che campione di Rischiatutto diventò un certo Rolfi, che faceva il sacrestano. Venimmo a sapere che Paolo VI aveva cominciato a seguire il programma perché lo interessava questo tizio, e allora mi misero i pantaloni finché Rolfi non perse il titolo. Però arrivarono altre lettere, di ragazzi, militari, insomma i giovani maschi rivolevano le gambe. Io mi limitavo a eseguire gli ordini”.

E cos’era Mike, in tutto questo?

"Un maestro amabile, un soldato. Anche un ingenuo. Come quando s’illuse che la tivù commerciale sarebbe stata un moltiplicatore economico, invece si abbassò paurosamente il livello. Mike Bongiorno era modesto, aveva conosciuto tante delusioni e non pensava soltanto ai quiz. Noi si andava in onda nell’Italia delle Brigate Rosse, tutti ci giudicavano una cosa leggera ma c’era di più”.

Ora useremo un termine orribile: lei è un’icona.

“Lo so, lo capisco dall’affetto di chi ancora mi riconosce per strada e mi accosta con rispetto. Mi sono sempre sentita protetta. La mia vita cambiò di colpo quando mi accorsi che non potevo più viaggiare in pullman: ero diventata davvero famosa, ci guardavano 30 milioni di italiani. “La scatola magica, come la chiamava Mike, è anche una scatola malefica. Forse non ho saputo coltivare le relazioni, non mi sono tenuta aggrappata a nessuna cordata, oppure avevo poca ambizione. Non ero competitiva, non sgomitavo. In fondo, sono stata un’italiana semplice: forse mi vogliono ancora bene per questo”.

Un poco, ma si sa che lei avrà per sempre vent’anni.

“Grazie, gentilissimo, ma ormai sono 73. Comunque, non è stato male rimanere fuori dalla scatola: dentro ci ho visto invecchiare male tanta gente che conoscevo. E quasi tutti quelli bravi, prima o poi li hanno fatti fuori. Forse perché nella selezione naturale della vita, i peggiori sono anche i più scaltri, i più svegli”.

“A noi giovani, la televisione non interessava: volevamo andare in piazza. Poi mi accadde all’improvviso una cosa che non avevo cercato, e che è rimasta mia per sempre. La gioventù me la sono ripresa dopo, almeno un poco. Da minorenne ero diventata la ragazza più famosa d’Italia e quando la cosa finì, dopo cinque stagioni di Rischiatutto, provai un senso di liberazione. Però oggi sono contenta di non essermi liberata poi così tanto da quel tempo, che è stato profondamente mio”.

CIU Kids Part 2 - Alyssa and Jake

Last time we looked at Estela and Ian’s family, let’s move on to Alyssa and Jake’s!

Alyssa and Jake McKenzie

After Alyssa returned from the Prism Realm in Summer 2019, she and Jake spent the next year or so traveling the globe and catching up with one another. From visiting Jake’s sister in L.A. (and saying hi to Sam and Dave while they were there), to swinging by Colombia for Alyssa’s brother Ian’s wedding ceremony (in which Alyssa herself was maid of honor), then off to Europe for a few months followed by some time in Japan, they never had a dull moment. Eventually, they decided to return to Northbridge to settle down and look for work.

Alyssa: Her old Hartfeld roommate Fiora contacted Alyssa and her brother almost immediately after her return to Northbridge. With the Czasa twins having been revealed as Time-Atts, the newly renamed Council of the Eight Attunements now had a spot open for one of them. Ian declined, and so the position fell to Alyssa, who spent much of her time commuting between Northbridge and Pennelia for the job.

Jake: While Alyssa was busy as one of the eight leaders of all Attuned society, Jake found a more modest job as a cargo pilot for Rourke-Hall Industries, working for Aleister and Grace (though they made a point to never hire him for transporting passengers. Ever.) In his free time, he continued to work on his personal plane, the Alyssa, and occasionally used it to fly his fellow Heroes of Cordonia around for “hero stuff” when necessary.

Michael Gregory Czasa McKenzie: Michael, named for Jake’s former partner Mike Darwin, was born only a month after his cousin Olivia. His Awakening occurred barely a few days after Olivia’s own, though thankfully, his mother had been warned of what to expect. She stopped him quickly when he tried to “reverse” his bathtub in an effort to get out of bath time!

As he grew older, Mike proved to be fairly shy and introverted (in sharp contrast to his parents); he preferred sitting alone in a library with a good book, or at home watching a TV show, over being the center of attention at a family gathering. Because of this, his favorite family member quickly became Tio Diego, who always had a new book, movie, or TV show recommendation for him to check out, which they would then discuss endlessly next time he visited. When he first enrolled at Berry High, he was quickly sought out and befriended by Jordan; though the two boys couldn’t have been more different in personality, they did have the unique commonality of being the only two Prismics at the school, which they bonded over. Naturally, when Olivia transferred to Berry, Mike was eager to incorporate her into their small group of friends!

LI: (To be revealed; not an HSS character!)

Shima Fiora Czasa McKenzie: Roughly three years younger than her brother, Shima (named for Varyyn’s mother Ximaedra) is almost the perfect polar opposite of Mike. Where Mike is shy and reserved, Shima is loud and boisterous. Where Mike prefers quiet, intellectual pursuits like reading, Shima prefers exploring the great outdoors or performing on stage as the center of attention. Where Mike’s Awakening was as simple as not wanting to take a bath, Shima decided to Awaken during a Catalyst reunion, in the center of a party where everyone could see it. Mike, of course, was more than happy to let his little sister take all the attention off of himself!

This pattern persisted as they grew older. Shima couldn’t wait to try out for every sport, musical club, and theater group the moment she started high school. It was a rough lesson starting at Berry High and realizing she was no longer the only Prismic around; for the first time in her life, she wasn't automatically the center of attention at school based on her powers alone.

The men were released on their own recognizance and are expected back in court June 4 for an update on whether they will be retried to fully exonerated. Queens Supreme Court Justice Joseph Zayas, who on Friday vacated the convictions, harshly criticized prosecutors for trying to defend the actions of trial prosecutor Charles Testagrossa. “The District Attorney’s Office deliberately withheld from the defense credible information of third-party guilt that is evidence that others may have committed these crimes. This exculpatory information was in the prosecution’s possession, and had in fact been investigated and documented by the lead prosecutor at Mr. Bell’s trial,” Zayas said. Testagrossa no longer works in the Queens District Attorney’s Office, but is currently an executive assistant district attorney for investigations with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. This was the record upon which the judge based his remarks.” DA says evidence was withheld Current Queens DA Melinda Katz and the lead prosecutor with the CIU, Bryce Benjet, previously defended the prosecutor’s actions by saying it was not intentional. Katz said that after a CIU’s nearly yearlong investigation, they had found that evidence favorable to the defense had not been turned over, which is known as a Brady violation. The evidence consisted of medical records showing that a witness at their trials suffered from a mental illness that caused him to hallucinate, and documents pointing to a gang member who had implicated himself and others in the murders. “It astounds me and shocks my conscience that even in 1997, that constitutional violations of this magnitude can happen in any prosecution much less the prosecution in a capital case in which the former district attorney was seeking the death penalty of a 19-year-old man,” the judge said. The Nation reported that during the citywide search for the killers, then-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani suggested the death penalty. When the men were arrested, District Attorney Richard A. Brown had sought the death penalty for Bell. “George was put on trial for his life and fortunately, the jury did not impose that ultimate punishment and as a result, George is alive to see this day,” one of their attorneys, Marc Wolinsky, said. “If the jury heard this evidence, they would have been acquitted. … The prosecutors acted in bad faith.” “This has been a 24-year journey traveled by themselves and all who love and support them,” said Rita Dave, another attorney on their case. “Time is what life is measured by. So, the loss of time is equivalent to life lost. But today also begins the long road of recovery, rebuilding their lives, rebuilding from what was stolen from them in lost time with family and in their communities.” Bell, who was 19 at the time of his arrest, was sentenced to life without parole. Bolt and Johnson, then 35 and 21, respectively, both received 50 years to life. Note: Due to wanting to keep this script PG-13, and also because I’m terrible at writing smut, there’s nothing too explicit here; I tried to stick to more generalized description of the actual, er, “30-diamond activity” itself and focus more on the before and after. There’s not a lot of plot in this scene though, so still feel free to skip it if such activities make you uncomfortable!

Note 2 - The Renotening: Though this story is going to firmly stay Jake x Alyssa, this scene does contain references to a past Jake x Mike relationship.

INT. RAINFOREST SUITE - NIGHT

Alyssa enters her suite, leading Jake by the hand. This close to the top floor, the windows are still unobstructed, and moonlight casts a romantic glow over the scene. Alyssa steps by the window and turns to face Jake, who stares, transfixed by her beauty.

Alyssa: Hey, you.

Jake (simultaneously): Wow.

They come together in a passionate kiss. Jake pushes Alyssa up against the window. The two frantically kiss, caress, and nuzzle each other, breathing heavily. Alyssa reaches down and pulls Jake’s shirt off, tossing it aside as he pulls her toward the bed.

JAKE: You sure you want this, Princess?

ALYSSA: How’s this for an answer?

She pulls her own shirt off. They slowly make their way toward the bed, knocking over some furniture and a vase on the way.

JAKE: Damn, you’re beautiful.

ALYSSA: Less talking, more kissing.

They fall onto the bed, tangled up in one another as they make love. Their movements are frenzied, passionate, deep. The knowledge that this is quite possibly their last night on Earth drives the both of them to an intensity unlike any other.

As they climax together, Alyssa tumbles onto the floor and pulls Jake down with her, tangled in the sheets. They lay on their backs, laughing and satisfied, staring at the moonlight shining in through the window.

JAKE: Wow.

Alyssa rolls over to find him staring at her.

ALYSSA: That was incredible.

JAKE: So are you.

ALYSSA: You? Saying something that isn’t snarky? That’s a first.

JAKE: Hey, I told you I have moods besides “sarcastic.” Now you have proof.

ALYSSA: Ha! Guess I have that effect on you.

Jake reaches over and runs his fingers through her hair, down to her neck. He kisses her softly.

JAKE: Even if we never make it off this goddamn island... I’m still glad I came here. ‘Cause I met you.

ALYSSA: So you’re saying you’re glad I woke you up on the flight in? Right?

JAKE: You didn’t wake me up, ‘cause I wasn’t asleep!

ALYSSA: You were too. Admit it.

JAKE: Never.

She playfully slaps him and turns back toward the window. There is a brief silence.

JAKE: I gotta say... I haven’t felt this way about someone in a long time. Not since...

His voice trails off. Alyssa faces him once again, and finds him looking uncharacteristically somber.

ALYSSA (hesitantly): Jake... is there... someone else?

JAKE: ...There used to be.

ALYSSA: What d’you mean? What happened?

There is a long pause. Then:

JAKE: His name was Mike. We were in the Navy together. Same deployment, fought together, flew together...

ALYSSA: Was it... was he... you know, “K.I.A.?”

Jake nods, his eyes watering.

JAKE: Yeah. You could say that.

Neither of them speak. Alyssa opens her mouth to say she’s sorry about Mike, but changes her mind.

JAKE: Y’know, after Mike, I swore I’d never let anyone else in. Figured that kinda pain was my “punishment” for letting someone get close to me. I promised I’d never be with anyone again. ...Then I met you. And you’re special.

ALYSSA: Oh... I... I mean, I’m no angel. I’m not perfect-

JAKE: Never said you were perfect; nobody is. I said you were special. You’re not just anyone... Alyssa.

Alyssa gasps in surprise and joy when he calls her by her real name for the first time.

ALYSSA: Jake... you did remember my name!

JAKE: Ya think I’d forget somethin’ that important? Hell no.

They kiss once more. When they break apart, they look at each other fondly, warmly.

JAKE: Still gonna call you Princess, though.

ALYSSA: Wouldn’t have it any other way, Top Gun.
