After placing my orders for Black Friday before midnight last night, suddenly, Good Smile springs this whole new Cyber Monday sale onto me. The problem being that it is a very small selection. Which wouldn't be a problem if it contained nothing I was interested in.

But there is "Way of the Ace" Bokuto Nendoroid! He's in the sale! But he's only 20% off; the discount would be negated by the expected $10-$15 shipping fees. Though I can rationalize shipping as a service in and of itself that is valuable enough to pay for, part of my brain is still screaming that this isn't actually saving money. It's the same price I would have paid at Anime Expo 2023, when I got "Way of the Ace" Hinata Nendoroid from Good Smile's AX2023 booth. (I've been somewhat regretting skipping Ace Bokuto ever since AX2023. That regret is starting to out-weigh my original need to save money, that made me skip him in the first place during AX2023.) But in that context, that makes it the same. Whether I had gotten Ace Bokuto during AX2023 for $42, or during this Cyber Monday sale for $33.59 + $12? shipping, it would have been pretty much the same. ---And actually, looking back at my Black Friday order confirmation from last night, shipping was less than $10 (probably because I live in LA and GSC US are in LA). So shipping was not actually as bad as I was thinking.

Still, I can't help feeling that I should get the most out of these shipping fees. If it got more than one figure---even just 2 figures total from this Cyber Monday sale, then that $9.95 shipping would be adding less than $5 to each figure. That's still a pretty good deal. Especially considering that the other figure I'm looking at buying is Snow Miku Serene Winter version. Her discount is a full 40%, which completely eclipses a $10 shipping fee. Even with a $12 shipping fee, this sale would still save me money on this $66 Miku.

But the thing is that I don't NEED this Miku Nendoroid. She's not a character I'm attached to, like Bokuto. She's just pretty. And I already have plenty of Nendoroids like that. Nendoroids of character I don't know, who are just pretty. But I can't afford to keep splurging on figures like that anymore. I have to buy only figures of characters that inspire me when I look at them, that encourage or soothe me, bring me to my mental happy place, just by looking at them. THAT is worth more dwindling funds now. But I can't buy something just for being pretty, alone, anymore. (Otherwise I would have gotten Nendoroid Unicorn, because OMG SHE WAS CUTE!!!!!! I love lavender hair and all-white clothes. See my Remo, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, and butai version Mikazuki Munechika Nendoroids.) A figure of a character I don't know and have no emotional attachment to, has to have a lot of my personally favorite character design tropes, for me to still buy it anyway. Wings, pastels, translucent resin, gradient colors, floral patterns, long flowy fabrics... And wouldn't you know, Serene Winter Snow Miku has translucent hair and gradient colors. I also often take photos of the sky changing multiple colors during dusk, so Serene Winder Miku having the same motif (but in pink and blue, versus the oranges, magentas, and purples/blues that I'm used to in LA) does make me sort of attached and biased towards her design.

Ugh...Should I do this Cyber Monday sale? I just spent SO MUCH MONEY on Good Smile's Black Friday sale yesterday AND on Nendoroid Doll preorders. Even if this Cyber Monday sale saves me some money on 2 figures that I was only faintly, kind of, sort of, regretting skipping...Not buying anything, still saves more money than buying something at a sale discount. Hm......... ~_~??????

I haven't regretting skipping Ace Bokuto THAT MUCH, since AX2023. Whenever I'm reminded of him, I do feel a LITTLE bad. But it wasn't like when I skipped Nendoroid Donatello, and kept thinking about it, repeatedly, until I just couldn't stop thinking about regretting it. I haven't been obsessed with Haikyuu in a LONG time. I still love Hinata, enough to get my first Swacchao. Just so I could have him on my desk (without worrying about damaging my only version of him in his original uniform), and he does encourage me every time I simply look at his little Swacchao's big smile. But I don't know if I like Bokuto enough to even resemble that level. Which is a level that completely justifies me buying every Hinata Nendoroid released so far. But I could skip Ace Bokuto and not feel TOO bad about it. I do like Bokuto's archetype a lot. But I don't know if my attachment is enough to justify buying a second Nendoroids of him. (Oh yeah, I already have his original Nendoroid.)

So I don't know if I'd feel guilty for skipping this sale, or if I wouldn't feel too wasteful in taking advantage of this sale. x_x??????????????????????????????????????? I just don't know.

Well, it's only a one day sale. So if I end up too indecisive by midnight, then time will decide things for me.

In the end, I'm supposed to be saving money, and I'm running low on money. I really shouldn't.

i wont compare these much to the renewal versions but i will say.. the renewals do look better <3 i do like the outfits for the most part!! the summer miku going for swimwear is actually cute i think it's a cute outfit & I usually hate swimsuit figs but this one might get a pass. winter is cute but shes angled down too much + autumn i dont care for really her waist is super skinny though and shes angled/twisted weird.. i have nothing bad to say about the spring one <3

December 28th 2016 - March 12th 2017. Hiroshima Part 2, New Year, A Visit From Some Old Friends, Birthdays and a Few Long ‘See-you’s!’.

Opps. I got lazy. What else is new? As per usual a bunch has happened since I last wrote. Things got busy basically as so as I started back after Winter Break and I haven’t had time to think. Or sleep properly. But hey, that’s being an adult right?

On the 28th I got on the Ferry and took myself to Hiroshima for a few days of shopping and just wandering around. I met up with an old Uni friend and her sister. We went out for dinner on my first night in the city, I took them to the big Okonomiyaki tower and then Hannah and I walked around the Heiwadori Illuminations.

We hit the Itsukushima Shrine on the 29th and I climbed up Mt Misen from the top of the Ropeway station. I had taken like three steps into the bush track when two Pheasants ran out in front of me. I nearly had a heart attack because at first I thought they were snakes, because all I saw were their tail feathers, but then they started clucking at me/each other and I spotted the rest of their bodies as they bolted up the hill. The view from the top of the mountain was pretty amazing. It would have been better if it had been a clear day though. There was snow on the mountains on the mainland, but the sky was pretty grey and you couldn’t see out to the other islands as well as you can when the sun is out.

On the 30th we got on the Ferry and came back to Matsuyama. We climbed up to the Castle for the sunset and then I took them out to my fave Izakaya. I think we went our own ways pretty early that night in prep for doing stuff the next day. On the 31st they explored Matsuyama a bit, and I sorted my life out before meeting them at their hostel. We watched the Kouhaku (Red and White Singing Wars) together with the other guests in the house plus the lady who was in charge. At a little before midnight we went up the road to a wee pub behind the Dogo Onsen and saw in the new Year with a beer, and then we climbed up the stairs to the Shrine on the top of the hill for Hatsumode.

On New Years Day Hannah and I met Jiovaane and a few other ALTs to go “Fukubukuro” shopping. Basically this is when you get to the mall as soon as it opens and the go and buy a pre-bundled lucky bag from a shop. You can pay anywhere from 1000yen to over 20000yen for a bunch of stuff. I got bags from Right On, Village Vangaurd and a sports store. I basically paid 25000yen and got over 40000yen worth of clothes and home goods. It was a cool experience.

Hannah left on the 2nd or 3rd and I celebrated my birthday on the 4th. I’m 24 now apparently. Probably should start planning what I’m going to do with my life from now on...

Nothing much other than work happened between then and the Tsubaki-Matsuri on the 3rd-4th-5th of Feb. I went down with my mates on the 4th. A bunch of my students were there and said hello. A group of my third-year JHS kids stuck around and tried to figure out what we were saying. During that weekend we went and saw a concert/live show that one of our Japanese friends was playing with his new band “Seaslugs”. It was pretty cool!

On the 11th of Feb, the Chuyo RA held a “Harry Potter” Murder mystery night which was a heap of fun. Props again to Jiovaane and his imagination for making the night enjoyable.

On the following weekend one of the other ALTs had a game night at his house, where a bunch of JET Program ALTs, Private ALTs, Eikaiwa teachers and University Students were massive nerds and played board and card games. We also ate a heap before going back into town and hitting the bar. The following night was also a game night, this time at Mat’s, as him and his girlfriend were getting ready to leave for travel. Both nights were a blast even if I was shattered by the end of the weekend.

On the 25th, my mate from Uni came and visited. She took me out to a wee station on the ocean front famous for it’s sunset. Shimonada was the name of the place. We got out there and enjoyed the view with a surprising number of other tourists. It was such a great day for it though. The sun was out and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. It was a bit hazy out towards the islands, but as the sunset drew near, it got easier to see out to where the islands were. There was lovely older couple who volunteer out at the station who made an effort to come and talk to us both. The old dude was super keen on photography and helped Misa out with a few cool angles and shots of the station and the islands. The Iyonada-Monogatari, a local sight seeing train, pulled up a little before the sun started to properly set, and everyone scrambled to snap photos of it. It was about twenty minutes after that that the sun started to do it’s thing. We snapped a few shots and then jumped back on our train to Matsuyama.

That night we went out for dinner and then walked into town to meet up with my mates. There was a birthday/farewell party on for Mat, Miku and Paul. It was a good night, albeit a bit sad. But that’s what happens when you live in another country. People come and go fairly regularly.

Misa and I went up to Matsuyama Castle in the morning and got some shots of the plum blossoms and the castle itself before we walked down to JR Station and parted ways. It was really cool to catch up with someone from Otago. It’s amazing how far everyone has come since graduation.

On the 4th of March I went and watched my Baseball boys play a game. Basically the pitcher had been bugging me to come and watch them play since I watched them lose a game at the fall tournament. This time they played fiercely and stole a last minute win. It was really neat to see how confident they’ve become since September. I’m hoping to catch the Girls Basketball team play next weekend. I havent watched them play yet, but a few of them have been bugging me to come watch since they heard I went to the soft tennis tournament to support their classmates there. Which is fair enough - and I am honestly looking forward to it. It’s really awesome that they want me there, and that even if the hate English as a subject, they’re not opposed to interacting with me in English outside of the classroom.

This Friday night, a bunch of us went and had nabe (hotpot) at Dillions in celebration of his birthday. Basically we cooked, ate, played card games and just enjoyed each others company. After how hectic the last few weeks have been, it was really nice. The food was fantastic too, Yukie made the soup base and it turned out really well.

Last night we all met at Pauls place for another game night/the actual birthday party for Dillion. We played Dixit (which is a fantastic abstract concept game), at a bunch of junkfood, watched a bunch of youtube and then got on our bikes and headed into town to continue at the bar. I got home fairly early bar.

Today I basically woke up and hit the ground running to get chores done before rolling out the door to do a bit of exploring. I finally stuck my head into the shrine by the castle park moat. It was super cute, and the lighting was really nice. There was also a part where you could hang over and photograph the fish from close up, which was really cool. I also went up to the big cemetery on the hill. I wanted to take photo’s of the cats that hang out there and live off of the offerings people leave. I found a few but wasn’t fast enough to get pictures. Still it was nice to get out into the sun and see parts of the city I hadn’t.

Basically in between the busy weekends, there’s been even busier weeks. I go to Karate twice a week from 7pm-9pm and I have a Japanese Lesson every Tuesday from 4.30-5.30pm. I study, clean and plan lessons on the other nights, so I haven’t really had much in the way of a proper break for a couple of months. Being this social really takes it out of me. Not that I hate it, I’m just not used to it after so long being a hermit Today was the first time in forever I had some time to myself and could ride my bike around for the sake of it.

I finished teaching my 3rd Year JHS students on Monday this week. I have one lesson left with all the other classes from ES grade 5 to 2nd year JHS. My ES kids have done so well over the last couple of months, the 6th graders surprised me with their creativity when doing the Momotaro unit of Hi Friends and also with their dreams for the future.

Graduation for my JHS kids is this week on the 16th. I’m going to cry so hard. I really hated teaching them last year, but something changed this year and they became really cool to teach. I think because I’ve known them for nearly two years now. that it will be harder than last year. ES Graduation is on the 23rd, but that’s not so hard as most of them come to the JHS. A couple of my favorites are leaving to other schools though, largely for special needs or sporting reasons. Which is really cool but sad at the same time. The teacher shuffle happens in April too, which will be interesting.

I’m going to Osaka South Korea with one of the other ALTs on the 25th of March. So I’m looking forward to that and the three day weekend next weekend. Hopefully the political situation will stabilize a little bit there so we’re ok.

This has been a bit drier/disjointed than the last couple of entries, but to be honest I am so tired. I just wanted to get everything down before I forgot it all and had some time to think.

As expected, lots of HeroAca... Kimetsu no Yaiba... Hey!  Bayonetta prototype!  *o*   Tanjiro Nendoroid Doll coming up?  Wow.  Good Smile is really going into the Doll market, competing with Volks's Obitsu BJDs and all those people making "Obitsu-roids".   What?!  A JOURNEY figure?!  O.o!  Pop Up Parade static scale figure of the Traveller.   ANOTHER FIGMA SABER BRIDE?!?!  *U*!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, Figma Akechi/Crow got a painted prototype.  Whatever.  #getoutofhereakechi Shoes?  Harmonia Bloom.  Oh, yes, I remember doll collectors saying something about how much they needed shoes.   Figma Sekiro looks pretty cool. That's a lot of Hatsune Miku in a row.  o_o Nendoroid Crayon Shin-chan?!  Are you kidding me?!  omg I didn't know that was still popular after all these years.  I gotta tell my brother.  lol Go away, Vanelope.   Oh, it's that new Dragon Quest guy.   Hey, more blank Nenodroid Dolls.   Yay!  More Nendoroid More faceplates!  A superhero mask AND blushing face?!  *o*!  Yes!   There's "Gun Dad".  Still haven't watched No Guns Life yet.  A Figma AND a Pop Up Parade?  I hear good things about this show; I guess there's a reason it's popular.   Why is the Pop Up Parade Galo Thymos in black and white?  I guess it's the unpainted prototype, but I've never seen them block out the dark parts before.  o.o?   Oh, hey!  Pop Up Parade Lio Fotia!  Now I won't have to get that expensive Kotobukia static scale!...even though it is very nice.  Maybe this one will be just as nice after it's painted.   We all knew Nendo Lio Fotia was painted because of Kahotan's sneak peek.  Naturally, looks cute.   And there's that new Madoka Magica spinoff protagonist.  She's already got her Figma painted and ready to go.  O.o  I wonder if this is going to be one of those series I watch too late, get really invested in, then regret not getting this preorder.  ~_~?  I guess I should check out Magia Record before the the preorder closes.   Hey!  Nendo Inuyasha unpainted prototype looking cute!   New Figma Styles including knitted dresses.  O.o! Figma Female Swimsuit Body (Makoto) looks sporty!  I still hope they release more of the previous Figma Female Swimsuit Body (Emily) in other colors too.   More Touken Ranbu... Another Touhou Project Marisa...   More Bungo Stray Dogs Dazai and Chuuya?!?  And 2 other cast members?  "Pilot Version"???????? What? I don't watch BSD so what is this about?   Sorcerer Stabber Orphen, huh?  Didn't that just start?  Is it getting good reviews already, or is this just a gamble?  I have the first series and it was just okay.  I heard this 2nd series has more stuff from the original source material. Light novel or manga?   What?!  *o*  Nendoroid Doll Nun and Priest?!  ^o^  2 colors of school Gym Clothes!  Adorable Yukata!  These yukata actually remind me of a set of the same type of fabric yukata accessories that Kotobukiya made for their Cu-Poche line.  Didn't really take off since not many people know about Cu-Poche.  But these Nendoroid Doll Yukata should do well.  Especially with the Obitsuroid crowd.  More Nendo Doll shoes...  Hey!  Includes tabi/zori!  O.O

Nicole's Winter Wonder Festival 2019 Picks, Part 2

Figure companies spared no efforts to surprise anime fans and figure collectors with a bunch of new announcements, along with newly finished figure sculpts of popular anime and game series. WonFes truly is a magical time of the year, even though your wallet might not think so! 

  Yesterday, I talked about some of my favorite picks, but wait... it definitely looked like something was missing, right? Where were the Good Smile Company, Max Factory and Orange Rouge figures? They had SO MANY good announcements and reveals, that I had to save those up for today! Let's get the ball rolling and talk about the rest of my fave picks of this Winter Wonder Festival 2019.

    Max Factory

    Let's start off with everyone's favorite action figures: figmas! Max Factory revealed that they're going to be making Sakura and Shinji figmas, which is perfect timing due to the second Heaven's Feel movie being right around the corner (did you get your tickets yet? It's gonna be good!). I've been collecting pretty much all of the Fate/Stay Night figmas, so these (even though I'd honestly like to punch Shinji) are essential to that collection! 

      Keeping the Type-Moon train going, a Merlin figma was also announced. I absolutely adore his character design, so it's a no-brainer that I'd want his figma as well!

      This annoucement seems to have come out of the blue! An Amateratsu Nendoroid will be made, and it's super adorable! Okami is a legendary game, and having more merch and goods made from it is like a dream come true. 

      Everyone's favorite hot-headed boy had his figma sculpt revealed! Bakugou is looking pretty good and I can't wait to see how he looks when the sculpt is fully painted.

      Probably the best figma I've ever seen, Bloodborne's Lady Maria's figma sculpt was unveiled! I initially thought this wasn't a figma, due to her knees not having any joints, but this is likely a part that can be swapped out. We won't know until we get more details and pictures of this amazing looking figma!

    Orange Rouge

    Being a HUGE Kuroko's Basketball fan, I'm psyched that there are Nendoroids being made of the series! Nendoroids of the full Generation of Miracles crew (plus Kagami) is something I didn't think would happen anytime soon. That being said, I'm so getting this Murasakibara Nendoroid! 

      It's HIGH TIME that this good boy got his own Nendoroid! That's right, it's a Mutsunokami Nendoroid! Being one of the 5 starter swords in the Touken Ranbu online game, it's about time he got some attention. You better believe I'm getting this one!

Speaking of Touken Ranbu, Orange Rouge showed off an image of the painted Nendoroid sculpt of one of my favorite swords in the game, Ishikirimaru! He's currently slated for an August release, so make sure to get your orders in on time!

More Touken Ranbu? Yes, more Touken Ranbu. Orange Rouge revealed the sculpt of another one of my fave swords, Uguisumaru. Can't wait to add this one to my collection!

Okay, back to Fate/Grand Order. Romani's fully painted sculpt was revealed, and he looks fantastic! I forsee a lot of Grand Order fans getting this one.

When I saw this sculpt reveal, I instantly wanted to throw money at my screen. How precious are these Yuri!!! on ICE figures?! Yuri and Victor are engaged in a playful game of tag while Makkachin follows. It's a definitive instant order from me!

Good Smile Company

You thought Good Smile Company was done with Card Captor Sakura? Heavens, no! Take a gander at this gorgeous figure sculpt reveal of their latest Sakura figure. The amount of detail put into the clothing is impressive! Good Smile is not pulling their punches with this one and it shows.

There are so many Miku figures out there, but dear LORD, check out this figure sculpt of this Memorial Dress version of Miku! Look at that dress and that HAIR! I'm in love! This is an insane amount of detail that you can spend a long, long time looking at.

Are you a squid or are you a kid? Whatever the answer may be, get ready for the Inkling boy figma! The Inkling girl figma is going to be released later this year in May, so this figma is a perfect companion to recreate Splatoon battles!

Light and L are getting upgraded Nendoroids! Good Smile Company made the first versions of the Light and L Nendoroids back in 2007 (wow, that's a long time ago!), and they were among the first 20 Nendoroids produced. It's really neat that they're getting new versions, and I'm sure fans of the series are delighted! I wonder if they'll be adding new accessories to this run... only time will tell! 

      The painted version of the Emma Nendoroid sculpt was shown off, and she looks so cute! They really nailed her hair perfectly! With the nature of The Promised Neverland, I'm taking a few guesses as to what her other face plates might look like. Which expressions do you think they'll select for Emma?

      Slayers is one of my top favorite anime series of all time (and you all should totally watch it), so you better believe this Naga Nendoroid will be in my collection! Good Smile Company revealed the painted sculpt, and I can already hear her high-pitched ojou-sama laugh. 

      Have you ever seen a more adorable scowling Nendoroid? Medicos Entertainment, in partnership with Good Smile for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Nendoroids, really caught the essence of DIO in Nendoroid form! Look at his cute frowning face! Look at his little shoes! It's the PERFECT Nendoroid!

      Not being left behind, a Giorno Nendoroid was also announced! The illustration isn't really representative of what the actual model might look like, but if the DIO Nendoroid is any indication, we can expect the Giorno one to be just as good!

      A Giorno Nendoroid without a Bruno Nendoroid to keep him company? Unthinkable! A Bruno Nendoroid was also announced. I sure do hope one of his face plates will include a licking one to recreate that "taste of a liar" scene!

  That's all of my Winter WonFes 2019 picks! It was an event filled to the brim with amazing figure announcements, and there's plenty of figures to collect. Remember to plan out which figures to get and note their release dates when they're announced!
