In the early morning haze, the castle stood, perched on an outcrop of rock like a sentinel guarding against the encroaching wilderness. Its towers reached up to the indifferent sky, their red and white roofs a stark contrast to the blues and greens that surrounded them. The forest whispered at its walls, and the water below reflected the dreams of the stone, steadfast and serene.

Once, men had fought over this place, their swords and cries as ephemeral as the mist that now caressed the battlements. Those men were dust now, and the castle, a memory keeper of their existence, remained. It had stood the test of time, a monument to permanence in a world committed to change.

The sun peeked over distant mountains, casting golden light on the sturdy stone. A lone boat drifted lazily on the water’s surface, a solitary witness to the quiet majesty of dawn. In that boat, a man might sit, rod in hand, not fishing for his supper but for solitude.

The castle, with its unspoken history, watched over him, offering the quiet assurance that some things, like the rocks beneath the waves or the mountains in the distance, are unyielding. For a moment, it was as if time itself paused, acknowledging the past whilst leaning into the silence of the future.

Lilac (@asktheminecraftians) managed to keep pace with this stupid little silver fish; now if she could just catch it! She didn't even notice that she was in a completely different ocean than the one she lived in! Lilac finally caught the pesky fish, stowing it into her inventory, and then... realizing she wasn't in the same ocean. The royal gramma mermaid looked around for a second, then noticed another form.

They looked like another merfolk, but they seemed to be young and... all alone? Lilac felt a twinge in her chest, seeming to feel something. She swam a little closer to the other mer, trying not to startle them. She carefully called out, "Um... hey there. I didn't mean to end up here, I was chasin' a fish in my waters and got lost. Do you... are you alone? Are you alright? Do you have a school or... I've heard some people say a pod?"

sorry that i couldnt figure out how to get rid of the pixel grid in the screenshots, lol, but it wont be visible in the actual skins, dont worry!

anyway, these were fun to make! i really enjoy making minecraft skins haha (i have about a thousand different versions of my fursona as minecraft skins on my other computer tbh)

You do? :0 Well sure! :DD Here I have a pretty old sketch of the whole Minecraft gang together. And a more recent sketch of just Melvin and a few others.

These OCS were based on a Minecraft world I had with a friend. Everything that happened in that world I translated into these characters in some way. As for what that story is, I wont dig into the nitty gritty to keep it short, just the basics.

Our story starts with Melvin the Donkey. He came from a village of other anthropomorphic animals.. but at some point when he was a teen(?) the village was raided by pillagers and burnt down.. He was the only survivor.. He grew up out in the wilderness by himself. Eventually he found a pillager outpost..

Fueled by anger and a need for revenge, he stormed into the outpost and managed to burn it down and kill all the pillagers. In that outpost though there were 6 trapped Allays. In his blind rage the cages were destroyed. 1 Allay escaped out into the woods. 2 died in the fire Melvin created. 1 was greatly wounded and the last 2 stayed behind to help the injured one. After Melvin snapped out of his rage he saw the 3 remaining Allays and brought them to safety.

He made a campfire and tried to help the wounded Allay.. but alas.. its injuries were too severe. The allay died. The other 2 allays ended up staying with Melvin and traveled with him. In their travels they found the Allay that escaped into the woods, and they became a group of four.

Also during his travels he met Butters. A yellow Axolotl that left his village underground seeking adventure. He ended up becoming Melvin's best friend. Melvin had no say in the matter-

Sometime after that when the group was running through a thunderstorm, a skeleton they were about to run past was struck by lightning. Turning into 4 skeletons riding 4 skeleton horses. The skeletons attacked Melvin so he fought back. Knocking one skeleton off, the horse ran away. Battling the others he killed all 4 skeletons and had to take down the 3 horses.

After the battle was over, Melvin heard struggling nearby. He goes to investigate and finds the 4th horse stuck in a mud pit. He calms the horse down and helps it climb out. New friend aquired!

Now the Librarian, 2 fletchers and the golem came from a village that had been destroyed by pillagers. The golem had grabbed them and ran, knowing it couldn't win against the pillagers. The villagers though had no idea how to survive out in the wilderness. How to find food, how to hunt and kill.. That's when they met Melvin and they struck a deal. Melvin: "You tell your Golem to protect me and my friends, and I will teach you how to hunt, find food and cook said food." "Deal." New friends aquired!

Then lastly the wolves. They were 2 bothers that got separated somehow. Thinking that one of them injured his leg and was swept down a river..? Melvin's group found him and nursed him back to health. later on he was reunited with his brother but they decided to stick with Melvin's group. New friends acquired! XD

cats are the worst feature in minecraft because i love them. like its a great feature i love that theres cats but it messes with my gameplay you feel me. like whenever i stumble upon a cat in the game i am immediately overwhelmed by absolutely incapacitating levels of tearful empathy like. Animal. i cant take it. those pathetic little meows. the chirps the mewls. the way they run from you and get lost. it stresses me out SO bad that once you enter a new village rather than stay within that zone they wander randomly and sometimes end up going so far away into the wilderness. like noooo kitty no...... its so fucked up. every time i come to a village and theres cats its a fucking EMERGENCY like QUICK i need raw fish. i need to befriend all these cats so i can either have them follow me home or i can build little houses for them that they will stay inside and be safe forever. i will put comfy beds there and soft carpets and barrels full of yummy smoked fish. house of kitty. i have to do this. if i were to simply walk away and let the peril and misery unfold i would cry and throw up

Hey I found your blog through the animation post, and I've been having a lot of fun reading through your thoughts on ttrpgs. I played 3.5e in high school but I am admittedly very ignorant about the medium as a whole so it's really cool to see someone's much more knowledgeable takes. I've wanted to get into it more, but life seems to get it the way.

I will say I think there's one benefit of actual plays getting big that's worth taking about: the comparison to video games. Game breaking and exploiting design quirks is a major part of modern video games, see speedrunning or basically all of Minecraft, where the entire point is pushing the game past what it was meant for. Good (video) game design requires that to be accounted for, embraced or tactfully hidden, but regardless it's axiomatic that in a game involving free movement you *supposed* to dig through all the nooks and crannies, that's the point

Listening to some DND podcasts was what made me realize you're not actually supposed to play ttrpgs like that, that there's a fundamental principle of collaboration that exists within the medium that doesn't in video games. After all, you can have a successful tabletop session with the whole party trying to break the rules or find corners of the map that didn't get fill it. At a certain point they all have to buy in or the game doesn't work.

Or maybe I'm wrong, idk you're the expert. Anyway, I like your writing, keep it up

I think you're pretty spot on. A lot of toxic (or just sub-optimal) behaviours you see come from fundamentally forgetting that you're here to collaborate, or not buying into the basic premise of the game. Of course, the thing about ttrpgs are that there are a lot of different ways to have fun with them, and different players come to them for different reasons. Some people want an overarching story. Others like inhabiting a character in a more unstructured way. Others like exploring a setting. Others like the feeling of accomplishment from overcoming in-fiction challenges. Others want to be rewarded for using the game mechanics skillfully. Somebody who's here for a big epic story and somebody who's here to explore every space on a wilderness map are going to but heads every time "should we take a detour" comes up; this is why it's important to get that buy in for the game. And, I will say, I've played some games where mastering the game mechanics and playing tactically was the point! And had a lot of fun doing it, even. (I remain a big fan of D&D 4e). If everybody rocks up to a 4e table wanting to get into the minutiea of team synergies and character builds so they can beat really fucking hard encounters (and the GM enjoys running that sort of challenge game), you can have an absolute blast! But, the point is that even here everybody is collaborating for a particular experience, and a player who kept banging on about character arcs and refused to support their team-mates in combat because "it's what my character would do" is playing disruptively, and makes the game less fun for everybody else. It's a very varied medium, is the thing.
