Happy Monday! I have a sneak peak of a quilt pattern I tested for @franniebquiltco - this is the Evening Sky Quilt. You might remember me posting this fun Octopus fabric I was gifted by @minervadotcom and saw my reel on how I chose my fabrics. I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out. I picked a lot of bold prints for what felt like a very traditional pattern. But, I couldn't be happier with my finished quilt top. I loved using the indigo chambray as a background so much, that I have some on the way to use in another quilt. #fabricpullfriday is here! This is my fabric pull for my next pattern test for @franniebquiltco I was inspired by the Octopus fabric from @minervadotcom I'm using an indigo chambray as my background. I love sewing for my friends from time to time. I recently made @dinosmu1 a top for her dinofashion wardrobe. When I saw this cotton jersey on the @minervadotcom website, I knew she needed a top made with it. This knit has a great weight and was perfect for the Shwin Designs Hamburg Dolman. I had intended to make Rissa the Hamburg Dolman before - I already had it printed and had made her fit adjustments to it, but didn't have enough fabric for it. This time, I had more than enough. The sleeves on the Hamburg and what I lovecabout the pattern, but they take a lot of fabric! I did add length to the body for a Tunic instead of doing a banded top per the pattern. Here's my Chantli quilt top *pattern by @jesspoemape ! It's my last quilt top for 2021 and makes for a beautiful finish to the year. Chantli means home in Nahuatl the native language of the Aztec and Toltec- people whom I am decended from. Which seems especially fitting as I spent the majority of 2021 at home - working, playing, learning, and growing. The Chantli quilt block is a modern interpretation of a log cabin block. Since traditional log cabin blocks start with a red square to signify the home, I have included one solitary red square in my Chantli quilt. The rest of my quilt is made primarily of scraps of other quilts I made this year. Most of the solid colors are the scraps from my Deltille Quilt I made for my King sized bed. A few solids were scraps leftover from my Entropy Quilt. The background started out as scraps from the quilt I made my mother the Coquet - fabric which was gifted to me from @minervadotcom but I ran out and bought a yard to finish from the @fatquartershop. The fabric is @artgalleryfabrics lower the volume simple growth in cotton poplin. The new yard was slightly warmer in color than my original yardage, but it's not very noticeable in the quilt. I got this fun fabric from @minervadotcom in exchange for a blog post. I didn't get this to make something for myself, but for one of my friends @dinosmu1 As we approach Thanksgiving I think it's important to think about what we are truly grateful for. I very grateful for my handful of friends that are local to me in the sewing community. Even though we don't get to see each other often, I know they are there for me. And when we do get together, it's as if time hasn't passed since the last. We can chat for hours and laugh until we hurt. I always enjoy giving my friends small gifts may it be baked goodies, fabric, veggies from my garden, or something I made. It always fills me with an unspeakable joy to give. My husband went with me to the woods when I needed to take photos of my New Look pattern #n6671 that I made with this beautiful fabric from @minervadotcom Both were gifted to me in exchange for a blog post. I was using a remote, I wouldn't trust my husband with my camera, and asked him if it looked okay on the display as I took the first photo. He replied, "you are smack dab in the middle". Today I dropped my Deltille Quilt (Pattern by @runningstitchquilts ) off at the longarmer along with my @robertkaufman Vinatieri music sheets backing gifted to me by @minervadotcom (blog post to come) and a King sized @hobbsbatting that I've had for a very long time. I've been intending to make a new king sized quilt for my bed since I moved to Dallas in 2009 and just never got around to it. No more excuses - it's done, or almost done now. I'm telling myself the binding has to be finished within a week of getting it back from the longarmer. I finally finished my Deltille Quilt (Pattern by @runningstitchquilts ) and thanks to @minervadotcom I had the perfect backing for it. I made the quilt in a throw size and I made it specifically to keep in a basket near my desk (swipe to the last photo). That way it would be in easy reach when I’m chilly on cold mornings. So I wanted a backing that I knew I would love yet wouldn’t clash or distract from the top. Swipe to seethe top. When I saw the @robertkaufman 108 inch wide Library of Rarities Collection Vintage Book Pages Quilt Backing I knew it was perfect. I am such a book nerd and love to read.
