So, this is the drawing I made for Rayman Alive 2023, a bunch of characters inspired by the Polokurse style. I'm not completely satisfied with the result (specially the lighting/shading), but I ran out of time 😅.

On an over - arching ledge looking over ; Perched is Globox . He was enjoying a picnic a picnic with the kids when their mother insisted to take them back and call it a day . Globox volunteered to stay back and pack away . when he saw trouble on the horizon.

❝  Oh no, no .  ❞  His voice sounds from a distance . He had looked over his shoulder for but a moment, seeing a stranger traversing around . Was she aware that there was a herd of minisaurus down that route ?

I really dig the chill / relaxed sound of this with the notes of mystery at the beginning, its a good pick for the vibes :]

Das geistert ja immer und immer wieder mal durchs Netz, diese Größenrelationsbelehrung. Ich denke, wer das bis heute noch nicht mitbekommen hat, der muss entweder ein Kind sein oder über ein schlechtes Kurzzeitgedächtnis verfügen. Oder es interessiert ihn einfach nicht. Dann hilft der lässige SZ-Moderator wahrscheinlich auch nicht wirklich weiter.

Ich poste das jetzt hier trotzdem – auf EnlargeYourPen (da tut sich übrigens bald wieder was!) habe ich das in den Neunzigern und Nullern ja schon besprochen –, weil nach dem vierten, fünften oder sechsten Vierfünfjahresdurchlauf dieser Großnachricht ich mir denke, was soll das eigentlich? Ist doch vollkommen scheibenegal, wie groß dieses Afrika ist. In jeder Relation. Das eurozentristische Weltbild – was sonst für eines werde ich übrigens hier in Mitteleuropa haben, zumindest ohne über einen gehörigen Dachschaden zu verfügen, wird dann ja auch gerne gleich mitkritisiert. Der lässige SZ-Moderator hat es ja auch für notwendig erachtet, darauf hinzuweisen, dass in Amerika Weltkarten anders aussehen. Weil er es offenbar im Internet so gelernt hat. Und weil es ihn offenbar überrascht hat. Gut, hat halt nie einen Amifilm – solls geben – mit etwas Konzentration auch für Details beachtet. Egal.

Ich war bei der scheibenegalen Größe Afrikas. Diese »Größe« – auf unseren Weltkarten – als bedeutungsvoll einzuschätzen, zeigt ja von relativ geringem Geist. Size does matter. Ja, in vielen Dingen. Bei einer Spinne etwa, da ist – für mich zumindest – relativ rasch eine »Größe« erreicht, bei der ich in eine Art Minipanik zu verfallen drohe. Oder auch ein Dinosaurier. Käme mir da ein Minisaurus, so bis zu 30 Zentimeter, daher, keine Sache. Aber so ein Rex, das schaute anders aus.

Die »Größe« eines Kontinents bzw. deren verzerrte Darstellung – aus wie der lässige SZ-Moderator zwar richtig erklärt aber gach nicht ganz verstanden habender Notwendigkeit ist ja per se nichts Gutes oder Böses. Und Afrika ist auf der gewohnten Karte jetzt von durchaus »kontinentalem Ausmaß«. Selbst in der »verzerrten« Gesamtrelation stimmen die Einzelbeziehungen plusminus. Etwa Europa zu Afrika, in etwa eins zu drei oder Australien zu Afrika, in etwa eins zu vier.

Mit dieser sinnvollen Darstellung, die wir auf der Ostfeste seit Beginn der Kartografie so zeichnen, also ein Problem zu haben, oder besser, ein Problem zu konstruieren, eine weitere »Diskriminierung« – in dem Fall eines ganzen Kontinents! – zu imaginieren, kann man ja nur dann, wenn man größer mit besser, kleiner mit schlechter gleichsetzt (jetzt runtergekürzt auf das Wesentliche). Und das ist Nonsense. Grober Unfug. Der gar nicht mehr auffällt in all den von jedem Gesamtblick abgetrennten durch Klicks abrufbaren Detailinformationen. Die zu gewichten, einzuordnen, ja eben »in Relation« zu bringen, der durchschnittliche Schreiber in der SZ – oder auch sonstwo – offensichtlich gar nicht mehr in der Lage ist.

The Glade has been stranger than usual lately innocent and usually peaceful creatures like the minisaurus and oiseau birds have been acting uncharacteristically vicious , it seems even the rabbid noticed . Globox watches the scene unfold . He felt safer knowing someone was here to help at least . Without Rayman The Glade has been falling apart .

The rabbit creature doesn't know where his friend is . It's not the best news yet it at least proves he isn't a threat . This rabbid clearly has taken no one from their home .

❝  Globox ! I'm-m'Globox ! ❞ Globox is friendly enough he doesn't quite know if it was appropriate to hug or shake hands on a first meeting ? It's been a while since his first meeting to anyone . So he had better play it safe and keep his hands to himself crossing his arms behind his back to avoid temptation to do so . ❝  What's your name , little guy ?  ❞

He rubs his would-be -chin ❝  Maybe I could help you help us ? ...somehow. ❞ He doesn't know exactly how yet but he'll figure it out maybe darkmess will respond badly to rain ? If not then he would just have to face danger once again . His friends were trying to teach him how to protect himself these days . Though not the bravest , he can't just sit by and watch the world he loves fall into ruin .

"Uh-huh." Louie nodded at Globox's question of him not being a monster, still keeping his paws held up in a nonthreatening way and refusing to pick up his discruptor. "I'm here to stop the Darkmess from spreading around and destroying this place."

He looked up to see a bird flying above them that had Darkmess covering some of it's wings, squawking and dive-bombing some other birds. The situation seemed to be getting worse. Although, the birds were flying in from the south, which meant one thing-- the Darkmess source had to be somewhere that way.

Only when the inquiry came about Rayman-- his brother Rio's friend, and also a mutual friend of Petch-- did Louie put his paws down and pick his weapon back up, stashing it away in his hat for later use. Was this... Rayman's homeworld? Interesting, Louie assumed he lived at the Space Opera Network, or maybe the Melodic gardens up until this point.

"I wish I knew. I could definitely use his or even anyone's help getting around to find the darkmess source, Mister... Uhm..." it had only just occurred to him that he didn't know this frog-person's name, so he probably should ask.

"...what's your name, by the way?"
