FedEx: Mattel has shipped you a package! It should be there next Thursday!

Me: Okay, but the package Mum was supposed to get from you guys on Tuesday is sitting at a location under 10 miles from our house with an arrival time of ‘pending’...

FedEx: So, your package was half way across the country this morning, but HEY! It’s IN YOUR STATE now!

Me: .....’k.

FedEx: Your package is at a location under 10 miles from your house!

Me: The same one where Mum’s package is still sitting?

FedEx: That’s the one!

Me: Swell. Let’s see which gets here first.

- Today-

Me: Okay, FedEx. You finally got Mum’s package to her Saturday after she wrote and complained to the people who’d shipped it. Are you actually going to deliver mine?

FedEx: Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, naw.

Me: GREAT! Hold on to that. I WILL DRIVE DOWN AND TAKE IT OFF YOUR HANDS.

Now, I might just live in a location with super exceptional USPS service......really, really super exceptional service since the government has broken them to the point I’m no longer part of an assigned mail route and my mail is delivered by whoever happens to be available today, but I am not seeing much incentive to switch to FedEx here.

UPDATE: Called to have FedEx hold my package and the reason it’s a week overdue is that it’s still on a very large trailer full of packages and therefore can’t be delivered to the location in charge of delivering it.

I also can’t pick it up.

It’ll be another 3-5 days.

I work with the public. I know better than to take that crap out on the poor customer service rep I was dealing with. Not her fault, nothing she can do. But please, someone, explain to me how the hell USPS can be famously understaffed and ‘facing slow downs’ and still get my crap here early while FedEx is late and working on an ‘80s era timeline? They can’t even update their anticipated time of arrival! It’s just ‘pending’!

“Everyone switched ‘cause USPS slowdowns and FedEx wasn’t ready for it” will only go so far with me. There’s this thing called UPS too.

And seriously, if someone from FedEx reads this and can actually explain in a reasonable fashion, by all means! I am well aware there may be something going on that I don’t know about because I don’t know the system. Until them, I’m just going to sit here and be pissed.

mmmmmmmm i guess, yes and no. It depends on what they did, if they are sorry, if they’d ever take it back, if they learn. Also depends on how well I know them. I’ll hold a grudge against a stranger or acquaintance for like for some petty shit like calling me a name behind my back and i wont fxcking talk or be friendly with them bc that’s just the kind of shit i am but a friend could probably murder me and I’d forgive ‘em if I believed they were really sorry.

So. 

Last week I was finally able to land myself a full-time job!!! It simultaneously feels pointless/beneath me and yet also way too stressful and asking too much of me... hah;;; but! It’s a job and it means I have less time now than I used to.

I also finished my reread the other day!!! And... I’m not 100% sure how to feel about it? Reading through I definitely had the impression that for the most part the parts I thought worked well while I was writing still worked and vice versa, but leaning more towards being better than I remembered. But then I got to the end, which felt kind of rushed and anticlimactic at the time but I chalked it up to me having anticipated it for so long... but no, I do find it unsatisfying. Partly that’s just because the last couple of scenes need to be written better. But IDK... there’s something in the climax that I always thought would be kind of a reveal? But reading back over it, I think I’ve foreshadowed it too heavily so that the explanation isn’t really necessary... but that might just be because I’m way too familiar with this story :/ (And there’s another part to the climax that I think will be suspenseful, especially to anyone not as familiar with these people.)

Eurghhh I just have a lot of kind of vague things I want to change but it’s just hard to know how to integrate those changes into what’s already here?? And I don’t know about the ending... I think part of it is that I haven’t really managed to capture a build up of tension well enough...

Ugh anyway when I think about it, the last times I was working full time, I wasn’t in any kind of writing mode and just was totally happy to read and daydream (last time, I was actually re-reading Song of Alexander, so I was totally okay whenever we had free moments because I’d just bring it up again lol), so I think I need to get into that again? Just focus on working as my Thing that I’m Doing and let myself daydream and think and come back home satisfied from that?

...which is to say that I might have to put Theseus on hold for a while :/ which is SO frustrating and I really just wanna give it to someone else to read and help tell me what to do lmao but there’s soo many things that I still need to change that I know about that it’d seem kinda pointless, just constantly getting ‘this scene feels awkward’ and stuff when I’m like ‘yeppp I know, I need to change that thing about it, I’ll do it when I can.’

BUT working is important and I’ve gotten so used to being unemployed for so long that I straight-up dissociated my way through the interviews I’ve had recently and am probably still doing so?? my emotions are going MEGA weird lol. But working is probably a thing I really should be doing now (and if my girlfriend gets something permanent I might even be able to move out????? I’m 26 I should be able to do that RIP) and I think it’ll just make me feel better if I can focus solely on work for a bit. So I think I’ll do that!!!!
