OKAY. THIS SHOW WAS. INSANE. Techies (every dept!) had TWO WEEKS FOR A MUSICAL. We had two weeks ago put a musical together with barely any budget. You have no idea how much we drank after that. This story will come in many asks because this was an insane 2 weeks.

Our show was Jekyll and Hyde. A big number, a lot of action, the actors weren’t too bad but if I need to hear any of those songs again I am going to delete the musical permanently. I was on set (building flats, mixing paint, modelboxes, engineering, masking etc) and the director did not talk to us at all. WE had to build everything in full scale, skipping lunches, staying in during compulsory holidays, staying in until 6pm all because she didn’t like us. 2/?

Me and two designers (6 of us on the team, 3 of them did nothing) built, painted and did everything to the best we could with how little money we had. We got everything ready, 3 days before the show went out and guess what the director said? ‘I don’t like it. I want it changed.’ I SNAPPED. ‘If you want it changed, go in there and build that fucking set yourself. You don’t know the stress we are under, blood sweat and tears went into that set and if you want it changed, you change it, ‘director’.

Then the show went up. Every. Single. Actor. Tried to break MY set. The flat that was on wheels. The counter that isn’t quite dry yet. The treads that aren’t screwed down because they’re on top of a drain. If one more actor even breathes in the direction or my set they will be getting it. I am so sorry we all literally have tech trauma from that.

When I tell you we drank, we DRANK like there was no tomorrow. We went in the next day still drunk, the sober ones taking everything down and letting me rest. I deserved that drink. Literally me and two other students built that whole set and I will happily light it on fire, I hated building it but if anyone goes near it I will not hesitate to protect it.

I love Jekyll and Hyde but I hate directors like that who just don’t communicate at all what their vision is or who don’t even work with their whole crew. Like, don’t you understand the whole show will go better if you actually talk with people?? I admire your dedication! My school musical was 1776 and even though I was an actor I skipped my classes opening day to finish painting the set lmao.

Boo for people who don’t do anything!!! Yes, go off!! Good for you, advocating for yourself in front of a terrible director. I’m sorry actors had a vendetta for your set, that sucks big time. I bet it was awesome especially considering your budget and time limit! You rock!!!

I’ve really been finding it a hard slog to get through and finish Zarbag’s Gitz so took a little time out this afternoon and made up some little fantasy treasure caches/objective markers.

I had the treasure chests sitting around from an old ModelBox subscription box and I added in some little extra details from my bits box. Some green stuff and sand and they are done, ready for spraying!

I also based up a Dungeon Worm from Ral Partha which I think came in the same ModelBox month as the treasure chests.

Looks like a cool little model, and hoping this has given my motivation a bit of a boost again.
