Remember when fallout 76 got announced and the corniest people on earth got mad that the trailer used take me home country roads because it was released in the 70s instead of the 50s? As if like, government-enforced cultural stagnation would just mean no new art was made for over a hundred years?

#and like even with the 50s culture lock a folksy country song about natures beauty isn’t like. exactly more modern or advanced than #the kinds of music that are in fallout soundtracks. like New Vegas has lots of tracks that John Denver would be right at home next to #anyway you do not have to hand it to fo76 considering they did nothing interesting with the concept but. still a stupid criticism

btw if youre wondering. im making object specbio for one of my planned comic things too. ive wanted to for a long while (since way earlier this year) but a bit less than a month ago is when i actually started drafting concepts about it!! i cant say much bc the comic is kinda a secret project in terms of characters/their relations/plot/etc pretty much everything and a lot of this worldbuilding and specbio heavily involves explanation through tragic canonical events, but i will say. sea creatures are involved in the evolutionary history (which is the one thing i can say without it being spoilers for how they function present day)

“You see, I found an art installation in the deepest darkest corner of a museum that is a toilet. And I have also heard of Piss Christ. These are completely representative of now times art which I will call modern because I don’t understand enough about art history or literature to know that modernism is a specific thing in those contexts. And I will only ever compare this to renaissance style sculpture.

As such, all the now times art is bad and of no value. We should like, reject it or something. And we should only like the kind of art that comes from renaissance or classical Europe, because tradition and stuff. After all, the only measure of artistic value is how much it gives reactionary grifters big boners for its representation of european culture.”

Forgive the hyperbole/sarcasm; I’m being very uncharitable because this attitude deserves none. If someone is comparing a toilet to realistic sculpture to say modern art is bad and old art is good, do not trust that person’s opinion on art.

Please visit your local art museums when you can so you can see how much contemporary art is not actually potty related for yourself, see cool work both old and new, and maybe even feel something.
