Top 10 Best OITNB Couples

So I’m going through youtube and I see watch mojo has done a top 10 best oitnb couples. Naturally I click on it and below I summed up the list of the results. I got some shit to talk about with a few of these. I do disagree with this list and it’s not just because I’m a fan of Vauseman but some of these just make me ask WHY? I’m about to get honest and blunt so brace yourselves.

1. Poussey and SoSo I personally held no feelings for this couple. I don’t really love or hate them I’m just okay with them. I think that this mostly has to do with the fact that I never really liked So So. I personally prefer Poussey’s relationship with Tastee than I do with So So because it just feels more natural to me and isn’t based on need. To me Poussey and So So’s relationship is solely based on a need. Poussey is very vulnerable and looking for an emotional connection with someone and So So becomes more and more lonely and isolated from the other inmates. They are both equally lonely people that fill each other’s void. Is this bad? no, not really but I don’t see how a relationship like that could end well because when you have a relationship that’s based on need what happens when your need of this person runs out? The main question I have for Poussey and So So is are you together because you love each other or because you need each other? It can be both but I seriously think their need for each other outweighs the love.

2. Suzanne and Maureen Okay before I get into them let me just explain something. Everyone and their momma is always up Vauseman’s ass about how toxic their relationship is and how they shouldn’t be together and it really makes me just go what the fuck sometimes. Not because I don’t think it’s true, I do think it’s true. I will not deny that their relationship is toxic, it is or better yet it WAS, but NEWSFLASH! Alex and Piper are not the only toxic couple on this show! Whether people want to admit it or not. My thing is if you’re going to talk about how toxic the relationship of Vauseman is then let’s talk about how toxic all the relationships of this show are. Every relationship in OITNB is fucked up in some way and has some level of toxicity in it that can make you wonder if this couple would actually be good for each other. So I don’t think it’s fair to point out all the flaws of Vauseman and their relationship and ignore the flaws of these other relationships that other people seem to like because well they’re just so darn cute.

This is why I got to talk about Suzanne and Maureen because number 2 out of 10? Seriously? Maureen is fucking crazy, she’s so crazy even Suzanne recognized there was something wrong with this chick and if Suzanne thinks you crazy, bitch you crazy. Their relationship to me started out as kind of sweet and innocent and we were all glad that Suzanne found someone who appreciated her and loved her. But then that kind of went downhill. Are we not going to talk about how that love turned into an obsession? How Maureen “got even” with Suzanne for leaving her crazy ass in the woods and then pretended like nothing happened. How Maureen obsessed over Suzanne as an author for Time Hump. How she volunteered to fight Suzanne when she didn’t have to. Suzanne was provoked to fight by Humps, Maureen VOLUNTEERED to fight her and proceeded to heckle her before Suzanne beat the shit out of her. Are we not going to talk about how Maureen is just so comfortable with murdering someone? Granted it was Humps and fuck him, but still red flag.

How is this couple deserving of the number 2 slot? I don’t know.

3. Lorna and Nicky

I’m actually okay with Lorna and Nicky being number 3 but they’re a toxic couple also. And to be honest I think they are more toxic than Alex and Piper and way more up and down. Nicky and Lorna are extremely complicated and I will agree it’s difficult to kind of figure out what their relationship is. While in one hand you know that there is love there, Nicky loves her, knows she wants her, has expressed that openly and has left her heart open only for Lorna to hurt her time and time again. Lorna loves Nicky too but she resists for reasons being it’s not the conventional love that she fantasized about and it’s not easy being in love with someone who loves heroin more than you. Not to mention Lorna is batshit crazy. You want to talk about being bad for each other? Nicky recognizes that she can’t keep doing this back and forth with Lorna because Lorna clearly needs help and Nicky needs to help herself. In a way Lorna has become another form of heroin for Nicky. With Alex and Piper I stated way back in season 3 that break ups can be good because it allows you time to get yourself together, fix yourself, become a better person individually before you can be in a relationship with someone. Both Nicky and Alex had similar scenarios where they knew that they had to separate themselves from their significant others because they just weren’t good for them right now and knew they had to take care of themselves first. It doesn’t mean that they don’t love them anymore but being in love with someone doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself to their bullshit. I don’t know where Nicky and Lorna’s relationship will land especially now that Lorna is married and she and Vince are pretty genuine in their relationship. I do fear that Lorna and Nicky’s story will end in tragedy and we might very well lose Nicky.

5. Alex and Piper

I would have put Alex and Piper in the top 3 at least because at this point I think that they deserve it. Everyone is so quick to point out how bad they are for each other but no one wants to point out their growth and development. The fact that their relationship is up and down is what makes them fun to watch and interesting because you don’t know what you’re going get. Yes, they’re toxic but I think it’s safe to say that they are not as toxic as they were before. Fans root for Alex and Piper because we know the love is real, it’s there. IT. IS. THERE. They have the potential to be good people for each other, they just had to get over their bullshit and grow the fuck up and they DID. Is there still work to be done? Yes! But that’s a relationship, constantly working at it to make it work. They’ve gone through their shit and they’ve finally come out the other side so I think people should really give them a break.

6. Lorna and Vince 7. Big Boo and Linda

8. Nicky and Alex?

This one really had me scratching my head because Alex and Nicky? Really? If you’re talking about relationships than fine but couples? Alex and Nicky were never a couple FWB’s at best and they had one fling so how is this on the list?

9. Bennett and Daya

Again another toxic couple I don’t care how cute everyone says they were. A relationship between a CO and inmate you know is just not going to end well. Daya and Bennett were kids behaving stupidly. Daya and company helped conspire to ruin another man’s life. You make Pornstache go down for raping and impregnating you so Bennett wouldn’t get in trouble. Pornstache is another douchebag but that doesn’t make what they did okay. Also Bennett never said that he didn’t fuck Daya’s mom when she asked so….yeah. Also he abandoned Daya and his baby.

10. Red and Healy
