If you favorite character from each of your next gens met would they get along?
Instead of picking my favorite character from each next gen, I decided to pick the characters who I think would have the most interesting interactions!

As you can see there’s a pretty wide range here lol, some of these characters would loathe each other but I could see others becoming close friends!

Moonray by Brandon Graham and Xurxo G Penalta. This is the second book by Brandon Graham that I've read, the first being Multiple Warheads, published a decade prior. Multiple Warheads was a really impressively imaginative and energetic work, every page stacked with a mass of puns and visual gags, illustrated in a cool, chunky style but with very little going on in terms of plot or characters. The leading lady of the book was named Sexica, the leading man a loser with a werewolf's penis and a sarcastic sense of humor. It was fun, but also kind of lame, a sign of better things to come. And here they are! Moonray is an improvement on the promise of Multiple Warheads in a lot of regards, a maturing of Graham's work without any loss of imagination or style. Moonray centers around the idea of great, reincarnating, ever in conflict space gods and their old corpses. Our protagonist is the stuff of one of these gods, broken off and given its own consciousness after the gods death, and we follow as he explores and finds a place in the god-touched world he was born on to. Compared to Graham's previous work, the constant stream of odd ideas and interesting designs is not quite as constant, giving each new thing time to develop and embed itself in the world and narrative. The sense of creativity in Moonray goes beyond its creatures and designs. Graham's previous work showcased inventive paneling and lettering and these have both been leveled up in Moonray into something really inspiring. Combined with improved illustrations, which focus on sense of scale, appealing forms, and texturing detail, Moonray can reach some really incredible heights of visual spectacle. I especially love when sound effects are allowed to slip entirely into abstraction, marks that clearly indicate a sound without any recognizable letters. It's hard to imagine pulling off effectively without experiencing it in context, but it gives the impression of otherworldly or encompassing sounds in a way literal writing of their sound couldn't. In the realm of paneling, most pages don't do anything too out there. Graham rounds the corners on all his panels, a simple choice which allows them to graphically blend with his illustration style and give each page a more satisfying and unified overall look. Graham rarely leaves a page with empty borders, instead placing panels varyingly overtop and underneath one another. Panels are also rarely placed on an obvious grid. This leads to a host of low level creative decisions being visible on each page, adding to the vibrant energy of the rest of the comic. These decisions feel like they've been made intuitively, but they're not without purpose, as they make for an extremely smooth and energetic reading experience unique to Graham's work. These decisions make already impressive splash pages hit with an exhilarating rush. No two pages, aside from splashes, are laid out exactly the same, something you're not likely to be able to say about another comic of this length. Not too harp on this point too long, but it's remarkable that every page is so easy to follow given the creativity behind each one. This certainly has to do with the subtlety of a lot of these decisions, but I think it also reflects a really strong understanding of the form by Graham.
I know I've had nothing but good things to say about Moonray, but it's not perfect. Moonray does suffer from an apparent lack of direction in its plot, especially in its later chapters. The characters are also really nebulous, which isn't a big deal in a story like this for the most part, but it gets a little insulting with the sexy sentient sword woman who appears halfway through the story. If everything is more tied together than previous Brandon Graham stories, it doesn't mean it adds up to too much. Things are more fun and cooler, but I couldn't actually tell you now why anything happened in this story. I can't say that any of this diminishes the successes of the rest of the above, but it does keep Moonray from reaching the next level.
Penaltas sections are cool and well illustrated but they come and go quite fast and I found myself more excited to move past them than to turn to a page and see them. They're so short, outside of the ending story, that they haven't really factored into my perception of the comic at all.

This is an actual disaster
Like even besides the security risk, you just have to ask how much storage is going to be wasted on this piece of shit Recall that no one normal actually wants. Like I struggle for storage normally, but with this stuff supposedly being stored locally it's just going to create another thing clogging up my system if I forget to disable it. Or if it's re-enabled without my consent in an "update", which I wouldn't put it past them to do.
I am seriously considering moving to Linux
Whoops. Looks like if you install a keylogger (oversimplification) on all your next gen "ai" devices it's very easy to exfiltrate all of that info
Note: this was edited, I had originally said all (windows) devices, my apologies

to me, navyseal is gilion fell first and jay fell harder
gillion was enamored the moment he heard her laugh, saw her smile, saw her hair glow in the sun, watched her nock an arrow. he trusted her even if he shouldn't, even if she's human, even if she keeps things hidden about herself and her past and her life. he made sure to defend her, keep her safe, listen to her every word and idea. he fell first but there was nothing to do with it, because he was fine like this. and plus, maybe he didn't need romance, as the champion. he left his feelings stay at the back of his mind, letting them fly to the fore front every now and again, in calm quiet moments. because even if he was guilty, what was the harm? nothing would come of it, nothing could. there would always be the urge to protect her and the want to listen to her endless ramblings about technology and archery and animals. he was content to let his feelings simmer, just exist. he shouldn't put her in an awkward position of dealing with his complicated feelings, he couldn't
jay was focused. she tried her hardest to never let any emotions in because she couldn't get attached to these pirates when she was just going to betray them. despite herself, she could feel her loosen up and open up. there was a strike of fear every time gill threw himself into battle, an urge to keep him behind her, slight anger and hurt flaring up after every battle after he threw himself into damage. she could ignore all this thinking of her mission and thinking of ayva. until it started to build. until gillion's toothy sharp grin made her stomach flutter and his yells made her laugh and his scars made her stop in her tracks. it built until she was painfully aware of her feelings and completely unsure what to do with it all, until the block. until her father was the danger to him. until she was the one hurting him. until she realized she didn't want to continue this pirate life she created for her self without him. until all her feelings were shoved to the surface and she couldn't hide from them and she couldn't hide them anymore.

CHAPTER 2 BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
[ID: A comic of Jay and Gillion.
Panel 1. Gillion sits on top of a crate, clearly bleeding. Jay is holding a rag next to him.
Panel 2. Gillion and Jay are making eye contact, smiling at each other, while Chip and Ollie stare at them in shock.
Panel 3. Gillion is holding Jay’s arm to comfort her while she looks away, holding her free arm.
Panel 4. Jay and Gillion lean against a crate. Jay has a pair of goggles on her head and is smiling at Gillion. They are talking aimlessly.
Panel 5. Gillion is laying down and holding his stomach, which is bandaged and bloody. Jay is looking away and speaking to someone off screen, looking a bit upset.
Final panel. Jay leans against Gillion with her eyes closed. Gillion has an arm wrapped around her, eyes also closed but smiling. /End ID.] until then, i love you by @navysealt4t
With stuttered breath and an out-of-body feeling, she blurted out into the night air, “I think I love you.”
Silence. “Like, romantically.”
His eyes met hers from the other side of the room, and Gillion found himself mesmerized by the perfection of her fiery orange and vibrant blue eyes. Gillion wished he could keep the sight of her looking at him with so much excitement and joy forever. He hoped he never forgot how her hair spun around her as she stopped in her tracks, how her cheeks grew even redder, or how her chest heaved with every adrenaline-filled breath she took. Her scars glowed in the light, and her freckles danced across her skin. She smiled even harder than before — wider than Gillion even thought possible — and Gillion found his own smile grew wider too. His love felt like adrenaline, wild and free and threatening to burst at the seams.
Or: Five times Jay and Gillion say, “I love you,” and one time they don’t need to.

I forgot if I showed these already, so I’ll just post them again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first outfit is still under development. I may make several so he looks more casual and approachable, but that one is probably for going into the village.
Basically the designs follow the seasons as markers for Dadmare’s stages of personality development and his relationship progression with his new family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I have the energy, I’ll probably write them into a bonus where they’re more grown and flourishing in the redeveloped village that Dadmare set up for them.
Teenage Sunbeam & Moonbeam (considering a diff name for him, like Moonlight?? Moonray…?) aren’t seen in Komorebi for now, because the timeline is set for only a year.
Aha, also they get funny little puppy crushes on Dadmare.
