Thanks for the recs! What Comes of Attending the Commoner's Ball is a recent release that I've been looking forward to reading. The author is a friend of mine, and I've heard very good things about the book. I enjoyed a novella she wrote. I haven't read Moonscript for similar reasons. It's too dark for me. But I love the author and her work, all the same. (She's another good friend of mine, as is the author of Illuminare.) I HAVE read Illuminare, and it is phenomenal!! I highly recommend it. It's intriguing adult epic fantasy with a heist story, a brotherly friendship, and a few frenemy relationships. I own it in paperback and ebook, and it's gorgeous.
Heads up for people who like fantasy: There's a two-day sale (12/6 and 12/7) with a whole bunch of free indie ebooks. It's billed as "no-spice fantasy", but in a lot of cases, that just means "the book is focused on things besides romance", which I appreciate because that can be really hard to find in this marketplace.
There are some that look like fluffy tropefests, but also a surprising number of books that I've wanted to read for a while, and several that sound decent-enough to make me go, "Well, for the price of free, I can taste it and throw it away if I have to." It's definitely worth checking out.

Thanks for the tag!!
Three non-romantic duos: Tim Bradford and John Nolan (The Rookie), Errance Celestrum and Tellie Carlson (Moonscript), and Schmidt and Nick from New Girl
A ship that might surprise others: John Nolan x Genny Bradford (The Rookie). They've only interacted a handful of times, and they already have more chemistry than Nolan and his current love interest
Last song: So Long, Moses, by Andrew Peterson
Last film: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Currently reading: I'm actually between books. I just finished The Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone, by Jaclyn Moriarty, and I'm about to reread The Shuttle by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Currently watching: Leverage, Downton Abbey, Sanditon, and occasionally New Girl
Currently consuming: guacamole and tortilla chips, off and on
Currently craving: more guacamole. If you will excuse me...

1. Three non-romantic duos: Ten and Donna Noble (Doctor Who), Harry Potter and Ron Weasley (Harry Potter), and Christopher Rowe and Tom Bailey (The Blackthorn Key)
2. A ship that might surprise others: Harry Potter x Luna Lovegood. Objectively there’s nothing wrong with Harry and Ginny, I just don’t find it all that compelling. And wouldn’t it be cute?? Wouldn’t it???
3. Last song: Autumn Sweater by Yo La Tengo
4. Last Film: Oh dear, I think it was Wild Mountain Thyme. I had a fever and I’d never been more confused in my life.
5. Currently reading: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Susanne Collins, The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands (reread), Sense and Sensibility (reread)
6. Currently watching: Bia, Endeavour, rewatching NuWho season 3 with my roommate, Friends, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (albeit, very slowly), and I’m attempting to watch the X-Files. There’s also a k-drama or two that I’ve been in the middle of for a WHILE that I need to finish.
7. Currently consuming: Lemon Coke (I shouldn’t be, I’m about to go to bed)
8. Currently craving: Creativity, motivation, a back rub from my mom 😂

book rec
If you enjoy Christian fantasy, I highly recommend Moonscript by H.S.J. Williams. It reminds me a lot of Madeleine L'Engle's writing style, though set in a fantasy world.
This book is just gorgeous. It grippingly portrays, love, despair, evil, friendship, and redemption. The characters are very human...even when they aren't. lol
Errance...oh, Errance. His internal struggles are so raw and wonderful.
There is a moment where Ayeshune, God, is confronted and questioned about his love and the response is just heart-rending and beautiful.

Currently reading: The Federalist Papers and the Constitutional Convention Debates. Don’t come for me ok I study history

"It is said that Darkness is empty and whatever vanishes into its depths is lost forever. I know this better than anyone. For I have suffered here in the shadows, and there are none who might find me.” Seventy years. Seventy years the elven prince has been lost to the darkness, assumed dead by his people and endlessly broken for a book that connects to the hidden realm of his ancestors, a land untouched by evil. And now a light in the shadows. A chance for freedom. But those willing to help him come from the unlikeliest of worlds. The orphan girl, yearning for a loving family, and the boy who won’t leave her side. A healer maiden given an unexpected chance for a life beyond narrowed expectations. A grieving creature flown far from home. They all search for something and now their fates are tied to his. If their quest for life can pull him from the dark mire in which his soul drowns, then perhaps he can be saved. Or else he will drag them all down to a fate worse than death. The beginning of an epic saga, MOONSCRIPT is a journey of innocence, despair, and redemption.

20 Years
Please make it stop.
I clutch my head and turn off my phone, the light of Instagram going dim as the screen melts into blackness. Letting go of the phone, I lean back until my head hits the wall, although the usually comforting feeling of knowing there’s something secure behind me isn’t working this time. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.
Please make it stop.
I’ve seen this message in different parts of my life. First it was on a wall of an alley, something I laughed about. Funny joke, I thought. “Wake up, please wake up. You’ve been in a coma for 20 years. We’re trying a different technique to communicate with you. Please help us. Wake up.” I walked by, shaking my head and didn’t think much else of it. I forgot about it in the next minute.
Until it happened again. And again.
And finally, on Instagram, that new post by @writing-prompt-s. Same message, same idea. Too similar to my other experiences.
Please make it stop.
I don’t know who I’m talking to. Is someone seeing this? Can you hear me? Please tell me you can hear me. I don’t know if this is some sort of elaborate joke, or some social experiment, but it’s gone too far. I’m terrified. I’m fucking terrified. Someone is stalking me and somehow invaded my life and
I think what scares me the most is that it might not be a joke. It might be real. I’m 16 years old but I’ve actually been in a coma for 20 years. How would I know? Oh God, how would I even know?
There’s no way to test it. There’s no way to find out. It’s not like where you’re scared this is all just a simulation and scientists are testing you and you have to like rob a bank or something in order to prove that you think this isn’t real. If that were the case, the mere thought that this world isn’t reality would be enough for them to bring you back.
But this isn’t a test. Being in a coma means everything around me is a figment of my own imagination, something I’ve dreamt up and never woken up from. Please tell me how to wake up. Please tell me how to wake up. Please tell me how to wake up. And if you can’t...
Please make it stop.
In whatever way you have to.
Just make it stop.
