The Royston If this splendid white house perched on a mid-Wales hillside looks incongruously urban it’s because the building’s original owner built it to mimic his townhouse in Clapham. Think ornate staircases and fireplaces, generous bay windows and statement stained glass. These days ‘The Royston’ is run as a relaxed guesthouse by Clive Sweeting and Rob Perham - owners, hosts and ex-advertising executives - who moved to the hills of Montgomeryshire from Brighton. The seven bedrooms at this Victorian residence are large with Egyptian cotton bed linen, original art by owner and host Perham and dark hued walls in olive or slate. Danish-brand ‘Meraki' products await you in the black-and-white metro-tiled bathrooms and on the bed you’ll find hand-woven Welsh blankets. Sweeting and Perham decided against televisions in the bedrooms - they want you to tune out. With bay windows looking out to the Cambrian mountains, complete with vintage binoculars, bird-watching guides and armchairs by Italian designers ‘Moroso’ to nestle in, we think you’ll be ok. This former Victorian gentleman’s residence - built in 1880 - replicates the original owner’s London townhouse. Owned and managed by former advertising creatives Rob Perham and Clive Sweeting ‘The Royston’ has been restored and modernised in a bid to create a haven of calm and relaxation. The seven bedrooms at ‘The Royston’ have a charm of their own. You’ll find original artwork by Perham on the walls and vintage furniture and curiosities that Perham and Sweeting have collected over the years. Room rates include breakfast with freshly-laid eggs from the chickens the roam the land, accompanied by locally produced, honest, simple homemade fare which will be served in the downstairs dining room or the comfort of your own room. Picnics can be prepared to order whilst your out and about ambling toward the mountains.
