girlbossing too close to the sun.
#art#ive literally just been treating this game as a library simuator#i walk from bookseller to bookseller opening up all of their books#vivecs sermons are either a highlight or the point at which i stop reading#ive been trying to convince the ordinators that imitation is the highest form of flattery but it hasnt been working#let me wear your helmets please theyre so funny..#posting morrowind in 2024 isnt a cry for help but youre not wrong to be concerned.#morrowind#almalexia#vivec#im going to explain the chitin armor give me a moment#so the bonewalker nerevar on the shrines is adorable and it was only after drawing it however many times that i realized#it looked relatively close to a modified chitin armor#and so i modified chitin armor a few times and this was probably the cutest result#i also know i drew almalexia relatively pristine and untouched by years and vivec not so much but my thought process was#vivecs role as if not a favorite then the most accessible divine or the most “hands on” in a manner of speaking#acting in ways visible to the general population or actions explicitly brought to their attention#like not that almalexia isnt doing anything she is#but the dissemination of information regarding that is very different etc etc etc#anyways to a certain extent a god is the face on a shrine or in art or upon a statue or carving#but vivecs presence is interwoven with the geography of vvardenfell especially and his actions and writings with pubished materials#and the arts and culture and customs etc etc etc#so to me the face of a god you know and feel a commonality with or a god that walks alongside you is a face you would recognize#and vivec is already otherworldly looking enough#the simple mark of the years on his skin in some way grounding him in reality felt more right#that and i think the ways in which he and almalexia care about outward appearance are slightly different- they prioritize different things#and the ways they present outward power and their embodiment of their respective attributes share some similarities as they both have that#important preoccupation with physical power and physical strength to a certain degree#oh my god nobody read this i am yapping so bad.#tes

The Daedric Alphabet
Tumblr media
"I tire of all spell scrolls I come across saying Woe Upon You. Why not something nicer, like Joy Upon You?"
- Seeks-For-Knowledge
The Daedric alphabet is used by both the Dunmer and the Daedra, the Dunmer using it as a remnant from a time when they worshipped the Daedra, before the Battle of Red Mountain in the First Era.
Exceptions
The letters Xayah (X) and Yahkem (Y) are sometimes omitted in scrolls and books, leaving only a blank space where the letter would be. They appear more commonly in banners and signs.
Writing styles
Daedric is not always written from left to right. On occassion it is written from up to down instead. Some places even write it upside down or mirrored, though this is less common. However, the most interesting way to write it is the decorative way often used in signs and banners, where the letters can overlap each other and vary in size, though the starting letter tends to be the largest, and different in colour than the rest.
Tumblr media
Traveler's advice: If you ever journey to Morrowind, learning the basics of the Daedric alphabet can really enrich your journey, and also lessen the humiliating need to ask for directions when standing right by signs written in Daedric.

Dinanukht, from Persian ‘the one who speaks in accordance with the religion’) is a mythological character in the Ginza Rabba, one of the main religious scriptures of Mandaeism, who is portrayed as an anthropomorphic book, a half-man, half-book, who “sits by the waters between the worlds, reading himself.”

Since I like polls, here's another Morrowind one based on varying interpretations I've seen:
Are the "Incarnates" we see in the Cavern of the Incarnate failed incarnates (as Peakstar calls herself), in the sense that they were true incarnations of Nerevar and/or the Nerevarine that failed, or are they false incarnates, in the sense that they weren't incarnations of Nerevar/the Nerevarine but tried to be or believed themselves to be.

To celebrate the sixth anniversary of Tastes of Tamriel, I'm proud to finally present the official unofficial worldbuilding compendium! Compiled from your asks since this blog's inception, this is your one-stop guide to all things worldbuilding in The Elder Scrolls universe. From aromatherapy and cheeses to drinks for the Divines and Tamriel's worst dishes, there's something in here for everybody.
I'd like to take this moment to extend an enormous thanks to the fans and followers who have made this tome possible. Without your asks, this wouldn't exist! I hope you enjoy reading this revised and polished version as much as I did writing it.
Thank you especially to @an-orsimer-and-a-gentlemer, @scrollsnsketchbooks and @akaviri-dovah for your tireless work on polishing this gem up! Please be sure to give them all a follow!
Here's to many more years of Tastes of Tamriel! And if you enjoy this compendium, feel free to show your support with a donation (it's much appreciated)!
Stay safe, eat well, be kind. ~Tal

Thanks to the anonymous ask about Sotha Sil earlier, I was able to come across a decent resolution scan of the Morrowind Art book.
I've glanced over it and it appears to be in higher resolution than the scanned pages over at the Imperial Library (eternal shout out to the INCREDIBLE work The Librarian does over there BTW.) The scans in the Imperial Library are from almost 15 years ago so its not too surprising they are lower resolution/blurry given their age.
I will likely do a mix of cropped single images from the book and occasional posts that are just a full page with all the art on it.
Please keep in mind that the art book itself is over 20 years old itself and in print form exclusively, so the quality of scanned images is just limited to a certain extent no matter what. The only way we can get *maximum* quality is to get full scans of the original works directly from the artists themselves as Michael Kirkbride has done for a lot of his work.
TLDR, I got alot more art I'm excited to share with you all!

So I might’ve spent an unreasonably long time creating a replica of Sermon 36 of the 36 Lessons of Vivec from TES Morrowind...
Did I hand paint and hand bind the entire thing? Yes.
Did it take several weeks and use up most of my sanity? Also yes.
(Bonus points it doubles as a sketchbook)

For reference here is the book from the actual game:
