reader pats any and all cats they see and all cats like them. yes, this includes big cats. the first time the lin kuei sees them approach a snow leopard, kuai liang is screaming at them to stop only to see the snow leopard flop on its side and purr when reader pats its belly.

they literally see bi-han as a human cat, which is why they are able to 'tame' him.
