thoughts on cyzj? I saw a while ago that you felt the show was sketchy. personally, i liked cyzj even tho it was over the top with the moments lol, but i wanna know what u think
Well, first of all, they literally tricked two contestants into joining the show and it was implied that they couldn’t legally get out of it, which begs the question why they ended up being able to leave anyway in the middle of the show. because it was dramatic enough, obviously
I felt wary of it ever since the preview and first ep came out. In the preview, it was implied that one contestant didn’t get along with the others and was like “why don’t they ever leave???” according to the official Chinese subtitles that the production team put on themselves. Now then, when the actual episode came out, that part was revealed to be completely made up, and what the contestant actually said was “I want to stay here and never leave”. This time they put the correct subtitles. You tell me what that was about.
This one’s less of a blatant sketch, but you remember the scene where Jun seemed reluctant to part with The8? It didn’t make sense because in the extra clip during that time, Jun said to the other contestants that he hoped these weren’t fixed partners otherwise it wouldn’t be interesting. He could have changed his mind, yeah, but it was still a little odd.
Now the scene with Yanan and Jun. I get that it’s a reality show, but wasn’t that way too personal of a moment to air? See, this is different from the issue some Carats had with HTR because that was produced by their own company and was exclusive to their group in which they most likely had a say in what could be aired. However, in CYZJ the contestants don’t have any say on how it’s edited because it’s a reality show that they were invited on. It just doesn’t sit well with me that they literally put it out there for the world to see, or the fact that they had him go into a room that was being filmed while in that headspace just for the footage.
Lastly, the part about Jun eliminating himself. See, you had this whole dramatic moment where the two teams thought one of them was gonna leave, and then Jun steps in. Well, Jun and the staff actually talked this over prior to this whole arrangement and the staff gave him permission to eliminate himself. So, this wasn’t a spontaneous act, which meant the show purposely made Jun announce his leave like that. Maybe it was better for him to explain himself personally to the fans, yes, but what about the part where they literally set the two teams up? The only people who knew this was going to happen was Jun and the production team, so the whole elimination scene was at least partially staged. That’s pretty messed up if you look at it from the other contestants’ point of view.
