Third Time's The Charm
fandom: The Lorax relationship: Normaler word count: 9490 (1 chapter out of 3) rating: T warnings: discussions of depressions but also omitting of such by characters summary: “Have you noticed all those people just going around to the center? All the time today, I see them going around, laughing and stuff, and there are so many of them. Haven’t heard if there’s like a contest or the marketplace got moved to today,” Norma remarked, trying to piece together all the evidence before her. To no avail. She had to cave in. “Do you know anything about this?”
Felicia didn’t seem too moved by it, “Oh, that? Some quirky guy has been performing with a guitar in the gazebo, trying to sell overpriced junk. I haven’t seen him myself but I’ve heard the chatter. You seriously haven’t heard?”
“No… Not really, I…” All confused, she tried to find the correct words. Again, set up for a failure. “A new guy? Do tell, huh.”
Or how Norma met Once-ler.
--
hello Normaler tag, I'm back! dedicated to lovely ppl at @all-things-normaler <3
--
As the last customer left the shop, with her best customer service smile, Norma waved them a courtesy goodbye. Only then her face fell flat on her arms right on the counter.
What had gotten into her, Norma wasn’t sure. Seemed like a perfectly usual day in the bright city of Greenville. People went around, some of the locals, two people she had never met. Those who had ordered books before had gone to pick up their orders. Those who weren’t sure what to pick, heard Norma’s vast experience shine through as she explained to them the plot of the ongoing series. A saleswoman through and through, Norma knew exactly how to pique someone’s interest. Truly, it was a day like any other.
But maybe that was exactly the case. Day after day, they seemed to fly by in front of her chestnut colored eyes. It wasn’t as if Norma didn’t like her job, far from it. Yet the mundane-ness of her life seemed just enough to make her dissatisfied. Or at least, would it?
Wincing to herself, Norma picked up her head and brushed curls from her face. Every time thoughts like these had occurred in her head, she remembered the words of her dear older brother Freddie. Norma, if a rollercoaster was going 50 miles per hour and not 60, you’d yawn. That she couldn’t disagree with. Hence doubts started to appear immediately as she even let those thoughts slip.
There was no use in complaining or succumbing to any of this, Norma knew it. After all, being a responsible adult, small shop owner and someone who wanted to balance out her life the best, she knew exactly what she was doing. So she straightened up her frame, fixed her yellow dress and tended back to the business. No need to dwell on her own increasingly worse habits.
Oh, right, another one. Just this thought made Norma roll her eyes away. C’mon, it wasn’t a death sentence to be quote unquote boring sometimes.

There is something peaceful yet eerie about the woods that I’m just so addicted to. I feel at home there yet completely terrified. I’ve always been drawn to nature and would call myself outdoorsy but I’m adventurous. Growing up in the woods meant a leisurely walk through a town or state forest in the middle of neighborhoods. There weren’t too many get lost in the woods, woods. Growing up I had dense trees between my house and the next with some railroad tracks thrown in there, or just a yard. When I moved to Maine I was amazed by the countless amounts of forests all around me. I made friends who loved being outside and who took me hiking for the first time. I loved it. I love the different trees, rocks, and terrain, but most of all I loved all the different smells.
Last weekend I went on a mini getaway with a boy who I’m very fond of. It was the first time we went away just the two of us. We stayed in a small cabin in the middle of the woods in Millinocket, Maine. This cabin had no electricity or running water and was heated by a wood stove. There was barely any service, no distractions just me and him. I loved every I was with him. It was perfect.
A little back story about me and this boy. We met during my sophomore year of college through my friend Colin, his brother. I saw him occasionally throughout the rest of college on the few weekends he would come up and visit. I could tell he had a crush on me, but eww that’s colin’s little brother, it’s weird. I also had a boyfriend during the last two years of college. Then New Years 2020 happen. All our friends rented a house in Greenville, Maine it snowed most of the time so we were all stuck inside. This between my boyfriend and I were not good and I could tell things were going to end. At this point, I hadn’t seen my Boyfriend for three weeks and we barely talked. The whole time we were at this house me and the boy were innocently flirting. A week later my boyfriend and I broke up.
Then the pandemic happens, my lease is up and I have no one in Maine to live with, so I move back home to Mass. Flash forward to the day before my birthday Colin and his fiance Rachel invite me over to Colin’s parents for a little joint party for me and the boy because his birthday is the day before mine, I’m older though. The night ended with me really drunk and upset crying in the boy's arms. Since then we’ve had this thing, a situationship we’ll call it. He’s the emotionally unavailable guy who has never been in a relationship and I’m the always in a relationship girl. Drastically different experiences with love yet we’re drawn to each other. Over the course of two years now we go through this cycle of talking all the time and seeing each other then things get too real and, in my opinion, he gets scared, does something stupid, and we stop talking. However this time he says he feels ready and he’s putting in a lot more effort. We’ll see what happens but I’m hoping for the best and expecting the worse.
He arrived late Thursday night driving straight from getting out of work in Mass. My new friends, that he hasn’t met we giddy and excited to see him, as much as I was. We were all drinking and when my friends drink they can be crazy so I was nervous about how he would react. He handled it well and he sat and drank with us and talked all night long. I finally felt completely comfortable with him. The next morning we got up I took him to a cute little coffee shop, my specialties, and did some grocery shopping for the weekend ahead. The first stop was the ice caves off of golden road. Now this time of year there is no ice yet but it is still a nice easy hike. He was so excited acting like a little kid, now he is the crazy adventurous up-for-anything type. Halfway through our hike, we come across a guy and his grandson in bright fluorescent orange. I felt my stomach drop, how could I forget it’s hunting season and they allow hunting in these woods. The man warned us and advised us that we should really be wearing orange. We thanked him and continued with our hike, we hadn’t seen anyone else but I was on edge and I could tell he was too. He picked up the pace and I tried to keep up. We made it to the cave I watched as his face lit up I couldn’t help but smile. I went down the first ladder and was shaking, there was no way I was making it into the cave. I watched from above as he climbed all around talking about how amazing and incredible it was. As we were heading back to the car we heard one single gunshot I jumped and he started picking up speed big time talking the whole time. We made it back to the car safe where the man and his grandson were eating their lunch.
We started heading to the cabin following the directions provided to us by the owners since there was no reception. We turned onto a dirt road which turned into a series of dirt roads that looked like old logging roads. If we were going to see a moose this is where it would be. As we pulled into the driveway we were greeted by a big black fluffy dog who we soon found out was named Andy. We were shown to our cabin and settled in. He started the wood stove for me as I was already freezing and he talked about how excited he was to go canoeing, I was not sharing his excitement. To my luck, it rained the rest of the weekend so that meant no canoeing. We spent the weekend playing games, talking, drinking wine, and enjoying each other's company.
It was something out of a movie and it was weird. I guess with him I just expect something bad to happen and him to leave but that didn’t happen. He held me and I held him until he had to leave and go back to Mass. Now I don't know when I’ll see him again or what we even are. Are we still in this situationship? It doesn’t feel like it but we aren’t in an actual relationship. It’s like we're stuck in this purgatory unsure of what will happen next and that scares me.

The Ghost of General ‘Mad Anthony’ Wayne and his Missing Bones
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos provided by: UnchartedLancaster.com
“Anthony Wayne was an American soldier, officer, and statesman during the Revolutionary War. His daring military exploits and fiery personality quickly earned him a promotion to brigadier general and the nickname “Mad Anthony.”
Wayne is probably the second most frequently sighted ghost on the East Coast. Second only to Abraham Lincoln. He is also the only Pennsylvanian known to have two separate graves, with body parts in both."
"George Washington considered Wayne to be one of the best tactical commanders and military strategists of the Revolution.
Wayne was born on January 1, 1745, near Paoli in Chester county. He received an excellent education and worked as a surveyor for Benjamin Franklin. When the Revolutionary War began, he assembled a militia and became colonel of the 4th Regiment in Pennsylvania. Wayne aided Benedict Arnold and saved Washington’s troops from a massacre at the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777.
Wayne was at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778, where the Continental Army recouped and rested. Wayne led men to more victories when fighting resumed, including a decisive battle at Stony Point along the Hudson River.
After the war, Wayne settled in Georgia on land granted to him for his military service. He briefly represented Georgia in the House of Representatives before returning to the Army to accept command of U.S. forces in the Northwest Indian War. His forces defeated the Western Confederacy, an alliance of several Native American tribes, at the 1794 Battle of Fallen Timbers, and he masterminded the Treaty of Greenville, which ended the war.

Two years later, Wayne died on December 15, 1796, in Erie, Pennsylvania, at Fort Presque Isle while on active duty. He was 51.
Following his wishes, Wayne, wearing his uniform, was buried two days after his death in a plain wooden coffin at the foot of the flagstaff of the post’s blockhouse. The top of the coffin bore his initials, age, and the year of his death in brass tacks.
Had it not been for a strange twist of fate, “Mad Anthony” Wayne would have laid there in peace for eternity.
For 12 years, the remains of Wayne remained undisturbed in a plain grave. However, some thought his burial was not fitting for such a great war hero, and in 1809 Wayne’s family decided to bring him home to rest in St. David’s Church Cemetery closer to his home in Radnor Township, not far from Valley Forge.
When Wayne’s son Colonel Isaac Wayne had the coffin opened in Erie, everyone was shocked! Instead of a crumbling pile of bones, they found a body in an excellent state of preservation.
Isaac had come ill-prepared to move an entire body across the state.
A local physician, Dr. James Wallace, came up with a remedy. He suggested they put Wayne’s body in a large vat and boil it to separate the flesh from the bone.
The general’s flesh and clothing were reinterred beneath the blockhouse. Meanwhile, Isaac took his father’s bones in the back of a wagon and made the long 400-mile journey across the state along what is now U.S. Route 322.
This may be hard to believe, but Pennsylvanian roads were even worse in the early 1800s. They were bumpy paths full of rocks, ruts, and tree stumps.
When Isaac finally arrived at the gravesite and attempted to reassemble the skeleton, the family discovered to their horror that several of the bones were missing. It appeared that some of the bones had fallen out of the wagon while making the arduous trip across the commonwealth.
Isaac was greatly distressed by this turn of events and regretted his decision to disinter his father for the rest of his life.
After that, stories began to surface that every New Year’s morning, General “Mad Anthony” Wayne’s birthday, his ghost rises and begins the long journey on horseback from St. David’s to Erie and back in search of his missing bones. People along that route have insisted that a man clad in Colonial garb has been seen riding a horse and stopping if searching for something.
“Mad Anthony’s” ghost has been seen throughout Pennsylvania, including along Route 1 near Chadd’s Ford, where the Battle of Brandywine occurred and at Valley Forge National Park. There have also been sightings in New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Canada.
Sometimes Wayne is astride his trusty steed Nab, described as possessing fire-flashing hoofs.
Whether alone or on horseback, Wayne’s ghost looks fierce and determined, as though he is still waging battles against the British and Germans.”

Advanced fighter F-16 Block 70 flies for the first time
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 01/24/2013 - 19:50 in Military
Lockheed Martin announced on January 24 the first successful flight of F-16 Block 70 in Greenville, South Carolina.
The first flight took place with Lockheed Martin test pilots Dwayne “Pro” Opella and Monessa “Siren” Balzhiser in charge. The total flight time was approximately 50 minutes and included airworthiness checks, such as engine checks, flight control and fuel system, as well as basic aircraft handling.
"Today's successful flight is proof of hard work, dedication and commitment to our customers and their missions," said OJ Sanchez, vice president of the Integrated Fighter Group, which includes the F-16 program. "This milestone demonstrates Lockheed Martin's commitment to advancing this program and obtaining this much-needed aircraft and its advanced 21st century security features for the fighter."
Tumblr media
This F-16 Block 70 jet is the first of 16 jets to be delivered to Bahrain. Six countries have selected Block 70/72 aircraft. In addition to the current official portfolio of 128 jets to be built in Greenville, Jordan signed last year a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) for eight jets and last week signed an additional LOA for four more jets. Lockheed Martin received a contract to start Jordan's long-term activities. Bulgaria also signed a LOA for eight additional jets for its fleet. Once finalized, the order portfolio will increase to 148.
Block 70/72 features a new high-resolution central pedestal (CPD) display, which provides critical tactical images to pilots and allows them to make the most of AESA and targeting pod data. The new CPD allows colorful moving maps, larger and easier to manage air-to-air situation displays, zoom functionality with the ability to switch information between displays, digital display of flight instrument data and a helmet-mounted color/night display.
The Block 70/72 also has an extended structural life of 12,000 hours - more than 50 percent above the previous production of F-16 aircraft.
Tumblr media
A new advanced APG-83 AESA radar offers greater situational awareness, flexibility and faster targeting for any weather. Lockheed says that the APG-83 provides the F-16 with 5th generation hunting radar capabilities, taking advantage of the hardware and software commonity with the AESA radars of the F-22 and F-35. AESA is being integrated into a new internal active and passive electronic warfare system (Viper Shield), which incorporates a new fully digital Radar Warning Receiver (DRWR) designed to interact with the APG-83 radar.
“Lockheed Martin is fully committed to providing quality platforms for the critical missions of our customers, and I am very proud of our talented team in Greenville,” said Danya Trent, vice president of F-16 and site leader in Greenville. "This is the culmination of significant advances in development, design, digital engineering, supply chain and production line for an already proven platform that will continue to provide decades of service in support of national customer safety."

Chances rise to 50-50 for tropical development off Southeast coast as region prepares for heavy rainfall
As remnants of Hurricane Francine bring heavy rain to parts of the Deep South, the Carolina coast faces the potential for more downpours, with a coastal low possibly developing into a tropical system over the weekend or early next week.
Following Hurricane Francine, which is dissipating over the Tennessee Valley, the FOX Forecast Center is keeping an eye on an old frontal boundary off the Southeast coast. This area could become the season's next tropical disturbance. The National Hurricane Center has assigned a medium chance of development over the next week. Regardless of whether a tropical cyclone forms, the Carolinas can expect rainy and occasionally blustery conditions throughout the weekend and into the first half of the workweek.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 29609 - Greenville SC:
weather-29609

"A front extending from the remnants of Hurricane Francine in the Midsouth through North Florida and into the Atlantic will serve as the catalyst for a low-pressure system to form offshore near the Georgia coast," explains FOX Weather Hurricane Expert Bryan Norcross. "Northeast and east winds will collide with tropical moisture from the south in the development zone, promoting atmospheric spin." While environmental conditions aren't ideal for rapid development, some gradual organization is possible as the disturbance moves north and west, approaching the coastline.
Weather Forecast For 77059-Houston-TX:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/201998533/Weather-Forecast-For-77059-Houston-TX
"If winds reach 40 mph within the circulation, as several computer models suggest, the system will be named Helene," said Bryan Norcross.
"Warm waters will fuel the system," added FOX Weather Meteorologist Kendall Smith. "We could easily see a tropical or subtropical depression by early next week. But don't get caught up in the terminology—the impacts will remain the same."
Forecast models predict widespread rainfall of 2-5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible, particularly east of Interstate 95. Coastal areas like Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, as well as Wilmington and Morehead City in North Carolina, are in the main impact zone.
NOAA's Weather Prediction Center has identified the Carolina coast as a potential flooding area on Monday, while more moderate rainfall is expected in inland cities like Raleigh, Charlotte, and Richmond, Virginia.
"Residents along the Carolina coast should prepare for an extended period of gusty winds and unpleasant weather, with conditions expected to peak on Monday," said Bryan Norcross. "At this time, there's no indication the system will develop into a hurricane, though we've seen similar situations intensify near the coast in the past."
youtube
Rough seas will bring the risk of rip currents and beach erosion The increased ocean activity will lead to rough surf, a heightened risk of rip currents, and the potential for additional coastal erosion. The coastline around the Outer Banks and southeastern Virginia is particularly vulnerable to rough seas, as demonstrated by swells from Hurricane Ernesto, which was over 1,000 miles away.
Waves generated by the former Category 2 hurricane caused flooding along North Carolina Highway 12, the primary route through the islands. At least one abandoned home fell into the ocean as a result.
Following this collapse, parts of Cape Hatteras National Seashore have been closed to swimmers due to concerns about debris in the water.
While authorities have not indicated that the surf will surpass the swells caused by Hurricane Ernesto or lead to further property damage, the local National Weather Service office in Morehead City, North Carolina, has issued various advisories for beachgoers and boaters, cautioning about the rough conditions.

Veneers vs. Braces: Which Is the Right Choice for You?
Tumblr media
For many individuals seeking a confident and inspiring smile, the choice between veneers and braces is a crucial decision. Both options offer unique benefits, depending on the specific dental issues and personal preferences of the client.
Veneers: A Quick Dental Solution
Veneers are custom-made, thin porcelain coverings bonded to the front of teeth. They can correct various dental problems, such as chips, cracks, and discoloration, and give the appearance of a perfect, natural-looking smile. Even when individuals are dealing with minor misalignment issues, veneers can also be an excellent solution.
Veneers are a popular choice for those looking for an immediate transformation. Combining ultimate aesthetics and efficiency, veneers might be the most suitable selection for adults aiming to improve their smile without wearing braces. Find out more about choosing veneers in Greenville, SC, where numerous dedicated dental practitioners offer this service.
Braces: A Comprehensive Oral Rehabilitation
On the other hand, braces can address more complex dental issues such as malocclusion (bad bite), severe teeth crowding, or even certain types of jaw disorders. Braces work by applying continuous pressure over time to move teeth into the desired position, thus creating a well-aligned and functional set of teeth.
Braces are often the first option considered by teenagers or those with significant alignment or spacing problems. However, it is important to note that braces results come over time and require frequent dental appointments for adjustments.
Veneers Vs. Braces: Making an Informed Decision
Choosing between these two largely depends on your individual dental condition and preference. Veneers are the quicker option for enhancing your smile, whereas braces offer a more complete correction of dental issues but require a longer process. A dentist in Greenville, SC, can provide a thorough examination and professional advice on whether braces or veneers are the most suitable solution for your oral health needs. Remember, every dental situation is unique, and what suits someone else might not necessarily be the best for you.
Therefore, it's always wise to seek an expert's opinion when making the decision between braces and veneers. Comprehensive dental consultations may help you better understand the pros, cons, and potential outcomes of each treatment option.
Conclusion
Whether you choose veneers or braces, remember that good oral hygiene is essential to maintaining the results achieved. While the perfect smile can boost your self-confidence, the primary purpose of both veneers and braces should always be to improve oral health.
Feeling confident about your smile can make a world of difference to your self-esteem and general well-being. The choice between veneers and braces is an important decision that could potentially transform your life. By considering factors such as your lifestyle, cost, oral health conditions, and personal preference, the path toward that dream smile will become clearer and more achievable. Before making a final decision, consult a dentist whose cumulative experience and expertise in the field will help guide you toward a choice that caters to your specific dental needs. Whichever procedure you choose, being informed is the first critical step to achieving a confident and radiant smile.
