Phoenix - Godot parallels
I've been replaying T&T and I gotta say, the parallels between Phoenix and Godot are uncanny. The most glaring resemblance is that they're both so presumptuously convinced that they are the only ones who can and should have the responsability of saving the people they love. Note also that their Japanese names, interestingly, both reference dragons - Ryuuchi and Souryuu respectively - but they do so in reverse : the first kanji for Phoenix and the last for Godot. Godot wakes up after 5 years and learns that the love of his life was killed. He couldn't do anything about it because he was poisoned and thus out of commission. Then he learns that said love of his life had taken on a protégé, and he also learns that the lovesick idiot willingly swalled the same poison that put him into a coma, and was swimmingly fine. He is so pissed at the guy. Also envious. Phoenix was there. Why couldn't he be there instead? Why did the poison put him into a coma, and not that stupid lovesick fool? He twistedly but most furiously hates the guy. Thus he crawls back from the deepest depths of hell. But he knows, deep down, that the one he really hates is himself (not that he could have done anything about it, even if he had not been in a coma - but feelings are hardly logical) Something Phoenix and Godot share is that twisted savior complex. Godot thinks he should have been the one to save Mia, Phoenix becomes a defense attorney because he thinks he is the only one who can save Miles, the only one who understands him (and then it's a slippery slope to wanting to save everyone ever, but that's beside the point). Both are quite presumptuous in these assertions. But Phoenix was able to save Miles (in a way he hadn't expected) - Godot couldn't save Mia. If Phoenix hadn't been able to save him, would he have ended up the same as Godot did? Remember, if he hadn't won that trial, Miles would have faced the death penalty. So, if the poison had worked and he was out of commission for 5 years, he would have been too late. If you think about it, we had a glimpse of what Phoenix would have been like. When he thought Miles was dead, he snapped at Maya and told her not to speak his name in front of him ever again. He was also quite depressed for those months and refused to take on cases at first, cases of possibly innocent people who needed him. And when Miles came back, he snapped at Miles too. Which leads me to my last point: Both Godot and Phoenix resort to anger as soon as they're hurt as their form of dealing with grief. They are so similar. One was just less lucky that the other. Also by this logic you could say that miego is basically narumitsu with a bad ending, which makes me cry so hard darnit edit: it's also fun to note that they both went crazy over someone they knew for less than a year. People call Phoenix ridiculous but Godot is basically the same kind of ridiculous

Diego loved a good party, and the haciendas around la Pueblo de Los Angeles tended to be rife with them. Rich families who worked hard and enjoyed hosting tended to led itself to more than a fair amount of fiestas as the years rolled by, especially, when everyone in town felt prosperous. Happy peóns meant hard workers, and hard workers meant bountiful ranchos. His own father's rancho was so prosperous, in fact, that he and Diego were the richest men in California. And with that money, they made sure their workers were happy, well-paid and cared for.
There was a time in Diego's life when his father would have used a party like this to try to turn him onto a young woman for courtship and marriage, but ever since Don Alejandro had learned for certain that his son was the masked vigilante Zorro, the two had reached a kind of understanding. The work Zorro did, protecting those who, for one reason or another, were ill-equipped to protect themselves, was far more important than Diego settling down and getting married.
Not that there were not plenty of beautiful señoritas in Los Angeles to turn Diego's head. But whether he would like to settle down or not, he had to keep up the front that he, Don Diego de la Vega, was a dandy, too much a pacifist to raise a sword in protecting another (not to mention, too poor a swordsman to survive such an encounter) to win the affections of a beautiful young lady. The romantic affections, at least. He had more than one daughter of a Californio who thought of him as a dear friend, a brother. Safe.
Diego was far from safe, though. Oh, to be certain, he was a gentleman! Polite, using whit and cutting remarks to turn his foes rather than steel. But that was Diego. El Zorro, on the other hand, was the finest swordsman he'd ever know, if he did say so himself. He'd yet to be bested with sword or whip, and he was a sure shot with a pistol, and his dagger flew true when he needed to throw it. Yes, Diego was a dangerous man.
But not tonight. Tonight was for dancing and drinking and singing, flirting with pretty ladies who would never take him seriously, and making sure that all of Los Angeles knew that there was no possible way that he could ever be suspected as being the same as that outlaw Zorro. (Again.)
He spotted an unfamiliar face in the crowd, a beautiful woman who looked neither Spanish nor Mexican nor native. She was as pale as the moonlight, her entire countenance seeming to glow as she moved about the floor surveying the crowd. Everywhere she passed, she turned heads, and Diego was not immune to her beauty.
Making his way across the crowded dance floor, he positioned himself in her path. "Buenas noches, señorita," he greeted with a bow and a kiss to her alabaster hand. "I do not believe I have had the pleasure of making your acquaintance yet. I am certain I would have remembered so lovely a face."

Don’t mind Volt being a little naughty by sneaking a playful nibble on Diego’s ear. Followed by a kiss to the neck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A small, involuntary yelp leaves the canine, completely dragged from whatever thought he was having. Any respons he had to Volt's little stunt is disolved by the kiss, though he still gets a little huff for his trouble.
Looking up at his boyfriend with flicked back ears, the light evidence of heat on his muzzle was clear as day this close, as was the pout on his lips. Though nothing about his body language said he was truly upset, just flustered. His arms cross over his chest.
"So your ears are off limits, lest there be concequences, but mine are free game?"

I'm replaying 3-4 at the moment, and had the strangest sense of déjà-vu: Gumshoe: Wh-Where did you find that, sir!? Edgeworth: On Dusky Bridge. I was there first, and decided to conduct my own investigation.
Gumshoe: Wh-Why...? Why didn't you tell me?
Edgeworth: I made a decision to keep all pieces of evidence in my personal satchel. It's the safest place I know.
Armando: Hmph! That hot-shot sure has a flair for the dramatic... ...now look at this from 3-2:
Godot: Ha...! The broach you're talking about... Do you mean this?
Gumshoe: Ah...!
Phoenix: Th-That's...! Mask☆DeMasque's broach!
Judge: Wh-Where did you find it!?
Godot: Well I've always had a good nose for evidence... I got it at the crime scene. It was hidden in the shadow of a big female Buddha statue.
Phoenix: ("Buddha statue"...? He must mean the Ami Fey statue.)
Gumshoe: Wh-Why didn't you tell me about that, sir!?
Godot: ...I always put evidence away in my pocket. ...After all, it's the safest place for crucial evidence.
Maya: Grrr... This guy is one cool customer. This has got to be deliberate. There is no way it's a coincidence. So the guy probably decided to employ Edgeworth's tactics while switching to prosecution. Maybe because he was the only one to ever succeed in getting a guilty verdict against Phoenix? Remember that this is the same shameless guy who also spread the rumor that according to Edgeworth, he was the best prosecutor in the country now that Edgeworth was abroad. Edgeworth didn't even know of his existence. This is so funny to me.

Don Diego de la Vega was cold. Not ridiculously cold, mind. England was a lovely country (especially the countryside), but it quite simply did not get as warm as Los Angeles, or even Spain. But at least the brick walls of the British Museum kept what warmth there was inside. Still, Diego didn't remove his coat, and neither did his faithful manservant, Bernarndo as they strolled about the museum's wings, gazing upon art and artifacts from around the world.
"It is a wonder," he mused out loud to the mute Bernardo. It was refreshing to be permitted to talk to him in public. Back home, they pretended he was deaf as well as mute, so he could be Diego's secret ears. But the need for that ruse - Diego's vigilante counterpart of Zorro - was left back in California.
At least, that was what Diego had been hoping for when he'd booked passage to England. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Bernardo had packed his Zorro costume, rapier, and whip, as well as his pistol. All things Diego had hoped to leave at home. He was on vacation! he had argued when he found out during the sea voyage. There was no need for Zorro in England!
But, Bernardo had argued back in his sign language, crime was everywhere, especially large cities.
Diego had rolled his eyes, but relented. What was he going to do, throw it all overboard? Hardly. Still, he had no intention of donning his costume here in England. England's crime was not his problem.
It had been two weeks, and Diego had yet to become Zorro here. He hated injustice, and turning a blind eye to the obvious crime he saw (he'd trained himself to see) was difficult, but he was on vacation, damn it! He deserved this time off!
Right now, though, at this very moment, he was engrossed in the Mexican gallery. The artifact before them was a stunning mosaic of a double-headed serpent. The scales were made of bits of turquoise, and they caught the light enchantingly.
"I do not think that even I would have the patience to create this masterpiece. Painting, I can do, but this?" He shook his head. "No, my friend. And to think, this is practically from California's backyard!"

@hybridafterdark asked: [Less Cringe, More Co--]
♧ to guide my muse’s hands where yours wants to be touched  (for Di)
Tumblr media
The canine really shouldn't be surprised that Volt was essentially handing him the wheel. It was obvious his lack of good experience with sex left a lot to be explored, and the hybrid was the type to let his partners dictate the pace. Which is how he found himself in this current situation, the only familiarity being his position on his back.
Diego laid half propped up against the headboard, pillows at his back while his partner was sat between his legs that were half bent at his sides. Volt's hands rested rather neutrally on his hips, waiting patiently for the spirit guide to make a move.
Eventually, he lets instinct and prior fantasies take over, and hesitant hands gently come to circle Volt's wrists beginning to pull them up from his hips. One's journey stops at his chest, his own palm resting over Volt's, gently applying pressure that manages to send a little shiver through him.
The other is brought all the way up to his cheek, turning his head into the metal palm, something like a comfort to himself. His face burned hot as a shuddering sigh left him. One bright silver eye cut to the side to look at the elder mobian.
