Tara Novak Stuns With “A Place Called Purpose,” a Tale in Song

Tara Novak is a classically trained violinist and composer who turned to Pop when she found it to broaden her knowledge of music. She uses her classical training in her pop, understanding what music can do and how it interacts with multiple genres.

Tara recently released her newest song, “A Place Called Purpose,” a musical story, reminiscent of old tales like Beowulf or King Arthur, that utilizes her classical training to play with the way this story is told. She utilizes instrumentations to share the underlying symbols of her story. “A Place Called Purpose” is about a female heroine who’s alone with her ship and racing against time trying to find “A Place Called Purpose.” Clocks tick and the orchestra sweeps the listener on their own journey.

“It was a snowy quiet day in the mountains of New Hampshire, and I suddenly realized the only sound I could hear in my house was the unending ticking of an old clock on the wall,” shares Tara. “I started wondering about the concept of ‘time’ - how it was invented, and how both physical clocks and our own perceptions of time influence our lives.“ She researched this further and found two things: 

1.  The buying & selling of time was illegal in Christian territories in Europe for many centuries of the Dark & Early Middle Ages because only God owned time. This meant that no interest was allowed to be collected on debts.

2. Navigation of the oceans was not possible until a reliable time-keeping device was developed, which allowed sailors to calculate their longitude using their speed and position of the stars.

These big pieces inspired her story of her heroine. She utilizes her classical training by using minor chords in the verse’s to exemplify the journey and major chords in the chorus to exemplify the destination, the song is not totally a downer. It’s a tale of a brave female captain of a ship, with only her knowledge, intuition, and courage to guide her on the open seas as she races against time to her destination. She faces outward storms and inner doubts and ultimately comes out renewed in her belief herself. She is a true heroine, like all of us who face the many battles in life.

One at my own college! A college where teachers mostly approve technical events in Auditorium, where students mostly appreciate comedy events and dance events, doing such an event as Musical Storytelling was a difficult task. First when I thought about this, I was not sure of organising it in my college but @shivik2099 helped me in presenting the idea to management. I also wanted to present myself in front of college and tell everyone where was I all these years if not in college.
