Q: What do this #vintageguitar and this #vintageamp have in common?
A: they are the least expensive ones in my collection...and two of my favourites!
Yes it is true...the TOTAL money I spent on acquiring this beat up (but original, and very loveable) 1966 #Fender#Musicmaster II 3/4 scale and this 1965 #Gisbon#GA17 RVT "Scout" #amplifier is precisely HALF the cost* of buying a new Les Paul Standard 50s or 60s model at a popular retailer in Canada today! I could have TWO of these complete rigs for the same price a ONE new bottom of the range Gibson USA Les Paul.
*OK OK, you make a good point: I did buy the Musicmaster several years ago (before prices went f*cking bonkers) but it was a good deal then and still by far the least expensive vintage Fender or Gibson guitar I have ever seen in all my guitar shopping travels. Plus, my guess is it probably wouldn't sell for a ton more now than I paid for it then because of its , shall we say, "mediocre" condition. Oh and also because no one** wants a Musicmaster ("wait...only one pickup? In the NECK position?!?! EWWW!") 🤣
** except me!

I also totally agree on making sure the electrolytic capacitors are in good shape - this goes for any older tube amp.Listing of all original Fender guitar wiring diagrams in PDF format for Jazzmasters, Jaguars Showmasters, Toronados Cyclones and more. Another largely overlooked and thus relatively inexpensive but cool little amp that comes to life with a decent speaker to replace the tinny little thing they came with. 57PrecisionBassVintageSeries (US1983)manual.pdf. They must have made tons and tons of them and then designs moved to the 6BQ5. I agree that good NOS 6AQ5 tubes can be found very inexpensively. Precision Bass Jazz Bass Bass VI MusicMaster DuoSonic Mustang Electric XII Electric Mandolin Amplifiers Fender Acoustic Flattops. NOTE TO Mike Schwartzman and Dave Mudgett:the other version uses 6AQ5 power tubes - NOT EL84's (6BQ5's)!Ībsolutely - I know that, that was a typo I'm so used to typing 6BQ5, it just slid off my fingers.īoth versions sound good, but I've had several of each over the years and I found the 6AQ5 version broke up earlier. But usually the original power tubes are still in great shape and will still last for decades! I have rarely had to replace them.ġ930's/40's Rickenbacher/Rickenbacker 6&8 string lap steelsġ921 Weissenborn Style 2 Hilo&Schireson hollownecksġ959 Fender 400 9+2 B6 1960's Fender 800 3+3+2 1970 Emmons SD10 Cuttail (Courtesy ReSound '65) However, they SOUND very close to the 6V6 version - and NOS 6AQ5 tubes are usually very cheap compared to NOS 6V6's and EL84/6BQ5's! This version can often be found cheaper because owners think the tubes are obsolete. NOTE TO Mike Schwartzman and Dave Mudgett:the other version uses 6AQ5 power tubes - NOT EL84's (6BQ5's)! Many buyers make the mistake of thinking they can use their existing EL84 tubes as replacemts, but they won't even fit - it's a smaller, 7-pin socket. With fresh caps and a new speaker (the original is junk for ANY instrument) these are great amps - the 6V6 version is known as the "poor man's tweed Deluxe when loaded with a good alnico speaker (NOT a so-called reissue Jensen, which are not close to the originals) but for bass you need a high-wattage (stiffer) ceramic magnet speaker. And you often have to TELL the tech to change them, as many will only do work to make an amp "playable" to avoid sticker shock. The amp may sound fine with original capps but can blow at any moment with zero warning - and take out the power transformer (I've replaced a bunch of them - and it lowers the value of the amp)Įvery one purchased used should go straight ot a tech unless the seller has documentation of proper service. Last time I gigged mine for slide, it was honestly too loud until I turned it around to face the side wall.Įvery one I encounter needs new filter capacitors - they have a service like of only 15-20 years and most owners do not know they need to be changed at that interval. These things are great for slide guitar or lap steel. Not a clone by any means, but similar in many ways. If you look at the circuit diagram, you will see many similarities to the Harvard. I think of these more like a tweed Princeton on steroids or perhaps a poor-man's tweed Harvard, and that is a very good thing for the right situation. With its totally open-back cabinet, it's pretty weak as a bass or pedal steel amp, but it is OK for really low-volume practice. That transformer-based phase inverter gives it a different character than a blackface/silverface Princeton or Deluxe, which is nice. If you push it, it will still break up but has enough headroom to not turn to mush. I replaced the tinny original speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30 and it's a great guitar amp now. I personally prefer the 2圆V6 version and that is what I have now. I've had a few of these over the years, both 2圆BQ5/EL84 and 2圆V6 versions. Oh, I see the date, I was just out of the hospital, no wonder.

#Fender musicmaster bass professional#
Got me set up with my new string box and I couldn't be happier with it. Not only is the service and productĪwesome but I really don't think you will find a better price. I really appreciate theĬommunication and help and advice from both Bill and Andy. The double box they ship the guitars in, everything is done perfectly. I have purchased two guitars from this company and the whole experience has been first class.Farewell Sweetwater, Cream City is my new go-to.
#Fender musicmaster bass professional#
Of my new 12 string Gretsch Country Gentleman with Cream City was a transaction beyond perfect.īrian at Cream City was extremely helpful, honest, professional and communicative - and the guitarĪrrived in perfect condition two days ahead of schedule.
Buying an expensive guitar online can be a nerve racking and treacherous process - but the purchase.
Paul Schell for helping with the whole process and making my purchase worry-free. I just received my guitar and its fantastic.
I've never purchased a guitar online before, so I was bit weary at first.
It was my first time buying a used guitar but I would definitely recommend this company. If fact I'm still haven'tīeen able to put it down. Just received my used 1997 Les Paul Studio DC. Pots date to '74 & all electronics are in good working condition. Master volume & tone controls with black knobs. Pickup: Single coil with black cover - 5.80K ohms. 3-ply white pickguard has a small chip out of it down near the input jack. Top-loading bridge with double barrel saddles. Neck dates to '74.īody: Offset, double cutaway, solid body finished in red. Neck is straight & truss rod is functioning. Unoriginal nut - 1 9/16" width 30" scale length. Open-back nickel tuners are in perfect working condition. Beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Neck: Nicely rounded maple neck with black side-dots. Professionally set up & ready to play straight out of the case.Ĭosmetic Condition: Good shape overall with typical wear & tear - various nicks, chips, dents & dings surface scratches & some finish wear. Super comfy neck & warm, bouncy tone make the bass tons of fun to play. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.Ĭase: This bass ships in a gig bag, professionally packaged, and fully insured. What makes this bass special: A dynamite player with killer looks - gorgeous red, white & rosewood combination. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this bass with a new set of flat wound strings. Overall, this bass is in great condition and the neck is in excellent condition. There are various dents in the body here and there. There are a few small chips in the finish on the bottom edge of the body. It has wear that is consistent with the age of this bass. Pickups/Hardware: One single coil stratocatser 6-pole pickup, Fender tuning keys, all original hardware, one volume/one tone knob, thumb rest, black/white/black 3-ply pickguard.Ĭosmetics: This bass is in great shape for an instrument this age. Neck: A beautiful maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 19 frets, 30” scale length, 1 9/16” nut width, white pearloid dot inlays, medium “C” profile. It plays and sounds amazing.īody: Solid alder, double cutaway, original finish. This Musicmaster is actually white and has aged beautifully to a dark yellow. This was also a 30″ short-scale bass, the shortest production scale of any Fender bass. All the electronics were mounted on a single piece of plastic. The bodies were from the Mustang production line, and 6-pole guitar pickups were used instead of the standard 4-pole pickups used in basses. The Musicmaster was Fender’s budget-priced bass at the time, made from surplus parts from other Fender models. As with Fender’s guitar bearing the same name, the bass was a simpler version of Fender’s Mustang Bass. Summary: Fender’s Musicmaster was first introduced in 1971, and in production through 1981.

#1957 FENDER MUSICMASTER FOR SALE FULL#
"How was such an ultimately dominant product created by a newcomer to the business who seemed to have several strikes against him? Leo Fender wasn’t a serious musician, had little background (or interest) in the traditional crafts or lore of instrument building, and was even less interested in associating with the old-boy network of acquaintances who ran the major guitar companies and might have helped him get on his feet." Perhaps author Tom Wheeler put it best when, in his indispensable history The Stratocaster Chronicles, he asked: Long-held conventions of design and method meant little if anything to Leo, which likely goes a long way in explaining the genesis of an instrument as extraordinary as the Stratocaster. Work on elements such as new pickups and a new bridge was certainly well under way by late 1952.
#1957 FENDER MUSICMASTER FOR SALE FULL#
A scrappy little post-war West Coast upstart that was only seven years old and led by a taciturn self-taught electronics tinkerer, Fender had already introduced two revolutionary instruments-the Telecaster and Precision Bass guitars-plus a full line of well-regarded steel guitars and a small handful of loud, rugged and stylish amps that were the best available.įender was small in the early 1950s, but clearly going places, and it’s possible that Leo Fender turned his attention in earnest to a new electric guitar model to succeed the Telecaster and compete with more upscale competitors as early as 1951. Let’s go back to that original era and have a look at the early years of what would one day be the world’s greatest electric guitar.įender had made promising inroads into the stodgy old U.S. Indeed, for about its first 10 years or so, the Stratocaster patiently bided its time while the world caught up with it. It took quite a while, in fact, because if it’s true that the guitar was so well designed from the start that it has basically remained the same for six decades, it’s also true that it was so well designed that it was ahead of its time by at least a decade. The Stratocaster had to earn its place, and it happened neither easily nor overnight. Been that way for quite a while now.īut it wasn’t always like that. It has risen above its everyday function to become a cultural symbol for creativity, individuality, artistry and more than a little exuberant rebelliousness. Ubiquitous and essential, the Stratocaster has transcended its original intended purpose as a tool (a stylish one, at that) to become such an archetype. Maybe that’s because it was so well designed to start with that it has existed largely unchanged for 60 years now, allowing it to become an ingrained form in the minds of successive generations. We strive to earn your business. The Fender Stratocaster is the quintessential electric guitar-a worldwide archetype the basic form that leaps to mind at the very mention of the phrase electric guitar even among those who don’t play.
