Here’s a look at the pile of hands I bought from DDE from what they had in stock.

Unfortunately, absolutely none of the natural skin hands fit my pale babes due to them being on old bodies that Fairyland doesn’t produce anymore. I’ve known for years that the old bodies were pretty decently thicker (and taller) than what FL has been producing these days, but that thought completely slipped my mind when I was making my purchase. Dx

I actually can force the new hands onto Keigo and Hiei, but the fit is more snug than I feel comfortable without modifying the pieces. Naoko absolutely needs the new pieces to be modified though since she is from 2008 (whereas both boys are more recent with any shrinkages older Fairyland sculpts have gone through over the years).

On the bright side, Lilith finally has hands that fit pretty much perfectly. Too bad DDE didn’t have more tan hands available in stock. Hope FL rereleases the new parts in the future. Px

Wish I’d realized this would probably be an issue before buying because I’d have probably opted for more hands for Farai or gotten some of the old hand pieces for Keigo instead.

Anyway, planning to carve into all the pieces, but it’ll probably have to wait until it’s warmer outside so I can do that shit out on the porch.

Bright Idea: Band Members & Character Rambling

so a pile of these characters i’ve RP’d with for years and they’ve always been part of a big menagerie of a crossover world.

primarily they’ve always been connected with the nana series, fruits basket, gravitation and dnangel, but recently i’ve decided to also add in my hero academia into the mix along with some characters from brand new animal and ffxv lmao. it’s a very slice of life type of thang. yu yu hakusho and mob psycho 100 are also vaguely mixed in (mostly due to friend-connections between some of my original characters).

after my best friend and RP partner became my ex-best friend early on this year, it’s been difficult to try and love on this chunk of story and characters because the world they resided in really was so uniquely our own thing. on top of that, many of our own characters within this universe had storylines so tangled with one another that it’s been difficult to sort of…detach from that. having to essentially start from ground zero has been kind of heart-achingly painful.

but anyway, i figured i’d get a start on my ramblings about this particularly universe and the characters with in by talking about the band members of “bright idea”.

naoko takashi: lead singer and primary lyricist. can play piano/keyboard.

to most she seems quite confident in herself and pretty boisterous and is a woman that loves to flirt. a lot of her outward persona is a cover-up for near crippling self-doubt and a lot of anxieties related to her place in the band. it takes a few years for her to accept that she really does deserve her spot as the lead singer and that her lyrics play a big part in the band’s success.

she has a very well-rounded type of voice that works for a variety of music genres (which allows the band to experiment with their sound).

during her musical career, she has produced a handful of solo albums that gain her a huge amount of popularity. she really enjoys doing poppy dance type music when she’s working on her own (though the woman loves her a good sappy song to belt it to).

ride or die type of friend once she’s close to someone. also, despite the fact that she looked like a stereotypically pretty and demure japanese girl in school, she has a helluva mean right hook (she’s knocked out jin-ho’s bullies more than a few times).

Naoko is a Fairyland Minifee Shushu.

jin-ho yu: founder of the band and drummer. does his fair share of composing their music.

jin-ho is generally a very laid back and chill kind of guy, right up until those he cares about are in some kind of trouble (he, like naoko, will also knock a bitch out lmao).

he and naoko are very close friends (first met in middle school). he and his family definitely consider her as part of the fam.

he’s one of 3 kids. he’s the oldest and has a younger brother and sister (nori and amaya, whom are fraternal twins).

founded the band in high school with naoko and handles most of the business-end stuff (kyrie helps out too once she joins up later on).

he hella gay lmao. his boyfriend (and later husband) is zachary park. they went to high school together, but didn’t get together until after graduating.

Jin-ho is an Alchemic Labo Unoa Elder Brother Zest.

lilith beck: lead guitarist and back-up vocals. also a lyricist.

this is actually a character i made up years ago for roleplaying, but she got abandoned for one reason or another. decided to pick her back up to replace my ex-friend’s character that filled this space in the band. haven’t really figure her out just yet though. xD; also her doll form is currently getting repainted so no pictures of her just yet.

valkyrie “kyrie” croft/khara: guitarist, bassist, and primary composer.

she’s a character i’ve had around for a little while for ffxv roleplaying, but i haven’t had much time yet to think more about her character in this particular universe.

a very straight forward and blunt type of woman. definitely acts as the band’s rock in difficult times.

was last to join the band and is a few years older than the other three; i don’t have any specific numbers, but she’s like…late 20s/early 30s when they’re in their early-mid 20s.

newly married to her husband, pelna khara (ffxv:kingsglaive).

Valkyrie is a Lillycat Deavon.

Definitely not completely obsessed about my dolls holding hands.

Changed up Naoko’s and Keigo’s outfits last week. Think this would be stuff they’d wear on a casual day out together.

Also, thanks to how much I love these glasses on Naoko, I decided she does need prescription glasses to see, she just usually she wears contacts (particularly for band stuff like gigs and interviews and whatnot).

I’m thinking these two meet via photoshoots and whatnot. Hawks is a top 10 hero so I’m sure he gets dragged in to get his picture taken for merch and magazines and whatnot plenty of times. So he meets the band through things like that and ends up shooting the shit with them all between getting harassed by photographers.

Was looking through my story archive yesterday, and Instagram reminded me that it was Naoko’s Gotcha Day! I can’t believe I’ve had this girl for almost a full decade.

Officially introducing Bright Idea, the band founded by Jin-ho and Naoko. They first started out just the two of them in their final year of high school; Lilith and Kyrie joined up later when they were in search of more members.

Naoko’s the lead singer (and she also plays the piano/keyboard), Lilith is background vocals and guitarist, Kyrie on bass guitar, and Jin-ho handles the drums.

They’re kind of like The Gorillaz and similar groups in that they don’t really stick to any one genre or sound.

Story Universe: Bright Idea

Naoko grew up with parents that saw her primarily as something they were expected to have; once you get married you have a baby, right? Right. Unfortunately, due to them not putting much thought into making a baby beyond that, she didn’t grow up in a particularly affectionate home. Basic needs for life were met, but she was fairly emotionally neglected by her parents growing up.

She spent most of her childhood being as close to the model cookie cutter child she could be, taking up any hobbies that she felt would garner positive attention from her mother and father. Ultimately, her hard work only managed to make them appreciate the attention THEY received over having such a ~talented and obedient~ daughter. 

Once she got into junior high, she meets and befriends her life-long best friend Jin-ho, and through him and his family, quickly learns that parents are actually supposed to be loving and attentive and WANT to be around their children for more than just personal accolades.

Realizing this led her to a years long rebellion streak and a lot of issues with self-worth. It felt like all the hard work she’d put into her schooling and hobbies was a complete waste. So she decided, and usual impulsive teen fashion, to do as she pleased behind her parents’ backs; she figured they wouldn’t care as long as it didn’t get back to them to embarrass and shame them (and…well…she wasn’t wrong). Despite that line of thinking, she actually did keep up with her schooling (just wasn’t top of her classes as often) so she’d have better chances of getting the fuck out as soon as she was old enough to leave. She also kept up with her piano lessons, one of the very after school activities she took on to please them that she actually enjoyed. As for her parents, they didn’t think twice about their child suddenly dropping hobbies and allowing their grades to slip down from what they were; as long as she appeared to be a model child, Naoko ended up getting away with quite a lot without them knowing.

The rebellious streak started off with small things like saying she’ll be studying at the library after school, but really she was just dicking around with Jin-ho for a few hours (eating junk food, playing video games, all the fun kid stuff), but by the time she was in high school it evolved to sneaking out of the house to smoke, drink, and sneak into clubs. She also had an affair with one of her teachers at school for several months (which luckily for her, ended anti-climatically with them simply getting bored and moving on).

Through all this, Naoko’s sense of self-worth was essentially non-existent and she felt like she wasn’t going to go anywhere in her life. She enjoyed playing piano and writing poems, but she never felt passionate about it (unbeknownst to her, she was going through depression). Jin-ho had his work cut out for him when he decided to convince her to start a band with him. She did eventually agree, but it was mostly in a “well…not like I’m doing anything else anyway” type of attitude. Thankfully, working in the band helps her a lot in bringing her out of her funk (to an extent) and she finds she loves to perform to a crowd.

In her last year of high school, she ends up meeting and beginning a serious relationship with Shigure Soma (he’s early-mid 20s at this point—so definitely still shouldn’t be dating a high schooler lmao). He ends up being her first actual boyfriend, and while a lot of their relationship is of a sexual nature, they also have a genuine connection with another since they tend to be so similar in how they deal with the rest of the world and the people in it. They both tend to fake it more often than not when it comes to how they’re actually feeling in order to keep from making others uncomfortable or avoid confrontations, they share a similar twisted sense of humor, and so on and so forth.

Shigure ends up becoming something of a mentor to Naoko in regards to writing while they’re dating and helps a lot in combating her imposter syndrome (because if this dumbass can make a pile of cash off of and garner a following for his lame-o porn manga, then why shouldn’t she be able to do the same with her poems turned to songs?). They stay together for a few years, but things end tumultuously due to Shigure’s unresolved issues with Akito.

So Naoko suffers her first heartbreak, and rather than fall into a fathomless depression, she throws herself completely into hers and Jin-ho’s band and making it a success (which Jin-ho has to hold her back a few times to keep her from burning herself out). It’s during this time that they meet and bring in Lilith and Valkyrie into their crew on guitar and bass respectively. Since both women are already involved in the music industry, their band (Bright Idea) is able to make quick work of gaining attention and signing with a record company (which ends up being N-G Recording Company run by Tohma Seguchi, of which Jin-ho and Naoko are both huge nerds over Nittle Grasper) and it’s not long before Bright Idea becomes a well-known name in Japan (all by the time she and Jin-ho are 24).
