Kelly’s expression gets slightly sharper, a little meaner, and McGarrett’s scowl deepens.

“I’m gonna offer him the job, I think. Williams,” Steve says.

“Not everything needs a military style rank,” Danny points out reasonably.

He’s kind of short, but he’s attractive, with wide shoulders and a smile that spells the exact kind of trouble she’s looking for.

“Do they know?” Matty asks, with a forced casualness that Danny has learned over the years means he’s dead serious.

“Does who know?” Danny replies, even though he absolutely knows what Matty’s asking about.

“You gonna renew it?” Steve asks, trying to keep his tone light because a small part of him is worried the answer’s going to be ‘no.’

“Yes,” Danny looks deeply insulted at even being asked, “Unless this is the point where you’ve suddenly decided I’m awful and you want to fire me.”

Steve thinks things over, and decides to do what he shouldn't.

“It’s about time they put that building out of its misery,” Steve says dryly.

having a minor crisis over fictional guitars. bad buddy takes pran's guitar and music in general to the absolute extremes of metaphor and levels of meaning (if i get started on examples i'll end up writing a book), but it's also right there in h50 in danny giving steve that guitar in the Therapy Episode and in starsky and hutch just... sort of sprinkled everywhere, every time starsky keeps cheering for hutch's music like a madman and that one time he snaps at huggy when he mistreats hutch's already broken guitar in fatal charm. i have a conspiracy corkboard and the dots i'm connecting with red string look like 🎸, and in the middle it says something about human connection through music and self expression vs. repression and art and the way all of those connect to and through queerness

Steve and Danny's readiness to say they love each other is both really refreshing for TV in general (it is SO rare to see this much openly-expressed love between two men, esp in any show/genre as testosterone-driven as H50 is), and part of what makes their relationship so great to watch. "See, this is why I love you, buddy." - Danny to Steve, without hesitation, when Steve offers again to drop everything and head down to Colombia guns blazing to rescue Danny's dumbass fugitive brother from the shady real estate mogul who's holding him hostage. And yeah, Danny goes on to joke something about Steve always being so ready to risk both of their lives... but he meant the 'love you' part. He really did, and he doesn't try to walk it back.

There's so, so much love between the two of them. To the point that it's often hard to be bitter about their relationship not being explicitly and canonically romantic, the way that you can about so many popular queer ships in television. Their chemistry is written and performed with SO much love and care that you're often left feeling like it is a real and genuine on-screen queer romance, even if they never get to share a kiss or settle down together.

Whatcha writing now, fanfic-wise?

As procrastination for my MFA Thesis, I am working on a few things fic-wise!

I have been writing a long-ish Yu Yu Hakusho fic for a couple months now. I can't say it actually has a plot yet, but it's fun to poke at.

I've also started writing a few things related to Jedi Survivor because I finished playing it recently and had a ton of feels. Those are mostly just little introspective character pieces. I like toying around with what it means to be a Jedi after the Purge and Cal's specific situation and struggles.

I just dove back into hawaii five-0 fic. I used to write pretty prolifically for it back in the day. I'm working on little coda fics to the episodes as I go through a rewatch, as well as a longer, post-canon fix it fic that's currently in the outline stage. It's been ages since I've written for it, so I'm taking it slow lol. I am probably most excited about this one, though!
