okay but so true bestie 😭 13 is NOT the longest running doctor (counting eps) but yaz IS the longest running companion (counting series) im fine being a hypocrite about this

wait but. shes been there from 13's first until 13's last episode thats like. must be a record. at least in new who. like only rose did that and 9 only had one series. anyway even if it's not a record it still feels special <3 there hasnt been a companion doctor duo who was together the entire time in new who

yeah! so my source is tardis wiki:

(note the clara one is stories not episodes, so while yaz has been in 31 episodes that only counts as 25 (? if I counted right) stories, because spyfall 1&2 count as 1 and flux only counts as 1, which is bullshit)

so for calendar time yaz is the undisputed longest, and for modern companions she is the only one with 3 complete seasons (I believe clara would be the runner up here, 2.5 seasons)

In terms of calendar time counting for companions but not doctors, it somehow feels different? idk why, it just Is. vibes

I do believe yaz is the only companion (other than rose&nine) to be with the doctor from first to last episode, and even that is somehow different as we dont know how long 9 was alone between regenerating in the 50th and meeting rose, while yaz is certifiably there from just after one regeneration to just before the next

amy and rory setting out a place for them. "but you didnt know i was coming, why would you set me a place?" "because we always do"

the doctor disappears and you dont know if or when they'll ever be back but i dont know if they expect you to wait for them. so many people throughout time who have told them "i waited for you" and it never seems to sink in that they wait for them. that they miss them.

the doctor quietly removing themself from people's lives bc they only bring chaos and destruction anyway. it's better like this. theyre saving them by leaving.

clara going "i mean it's not like im never gonna see you again" "isnt it?" "is it?" "i thought thats what you wanted" "but youre gonna come around for dinner or something arent you? do you do that? come around peoples houses for dinner?" "of course" they lie because they dont "thought you mind find it boring"

maybe they do find it boring. or maybe thats an easier sentiment to express, an easier idea to grapple with, than the fact that there are people who care about them enough to spend time with them when nothing particularly exciting is happening, spend time with them just doing human maintenance things, when they dont need them. because theyre not necessary when there is no danger. theyre not needed, just wanted. because theyre not loved by the people who love them for being The Doctor, theyre loved for being the doctor.

I don't really go in for high school aus but if I did imagine deancas as high schoolers then Dean Would be the Faux-Bad Boy with the leather jacket and the muscle car and the Attitude but is actually like, a responsible guy who takes care of his kid brother and is well liked by teachers because he's always volunteering to help out with little errands in class and Cas would be a very buttoned up looking nerd who spends most of his free time studying in the library and has definitely for sure stabbed someone before and will again.

anyway the Claire and Castiel vibe for me is like. They are in the kitchen and it is the early morning and maybe Claire has some hot chocolate or some tea and it’s quiet. And Claire says “You don’t really look like him.” and Cas turns to look at her so she explains that his voice and his expressions and the way he carries himself are so different from her dad, that it’s been so long now that sometimes when she looks at him she doesn’t see her dad first, she just sees Cas.

And then she says “I think I’m always going to hate you for that.”

And Cas just goes “Okay.” and they go back to sitting in silence and Claire sips her drink.

Always thinking about the fact that Supernatural casually includes Cattle Mutilations as one of their go-to demon omens because like. Okay electrical storms and whatever, I can buy that as just some natural side effect of a demon in the area but Cattle mutilations? That doesn't just happen, something has to be mutilating the cattle so that tells me that either

a) Demons cause nearby animals to go into some kind of frenzy and attack cows (most logical but most boring explanation)

b) Actually it does Just Happen and the presence of a demon just causes cows to spontaneously die in greusome ways. (appropriately batshit)

or c) (my personal favourite) Demons just fucking love mutilating cows and they will do it whenever they get the opportunity. Any time there is a cattle mutilation it's because a demon decided to personally go and fuck up some cows just as a fun and relaxing activity.

and I just think thats neat.

in my head the megstiel mpreg au takes place in an alternative of the last half of season 8 where Cas doesn’t get taken in by Metatron because he’s too busy doing hot girl shit with Meg and the drama of the abomination baby is the main issue in season 9 instead of the angels getting kicked out of heaven, BUT if you wanted to make it particularly buck wild you could shift it furthur towards season nine and entwine it with the Abaddon vs. Crowley civil war in hell plotline by having Meg be like

Meg: Wow we sure are caught between a rock and a hard place. Abaddon and Crowley fighting for control of hell, that’s two bad options right there. If only there was a third choice. Cas: Yes that would be preferable. Meg: Yeah I mean they wouldn’t even have to win, just by running they’d probably strip supporters away from both sides, preventing either of them from building a big enough army to cause real trouble... maybe sew enough chaos that hell wrecks itself with infighting and forgets about earth entirely for the next little while. Cas: It could happen, demons are fond of power-grabs. Meg: Yeah but no run of the mill demon would want to stand up to Abaddon. Or even Crowley really and no one would follow them if they weren’t powerful. You’d need someone pretty tough. Brutal. Incredibly sexy. Cas: Meg are you- Meg: Maybe someone who pulled off a successful siege in hell and is still remembered with fear and awe by the survivors of the massacre. Someone who managed to snatch Alistair’s protege and heir out of the pit and turn him into a loyal human lapdog. Cas: ... Meg isn’t trying particularly hard to get Castiel to turn evil and conquer hell for real but she does think it would be fun and sexy of him if he did so she’s not gonna stop him if he starts to go off the rails a little. Castiel has no desire to be in charge of hell but he does feel more comfortable with a demon army between his baby and anyone that might try to kill it. Plus he hasn’t gotten to do all that many conquests and massacres since rebelling from heaven (at least not without feeling very guilty about it afterwards) and he’s pregnant so he deserves nice things. Sam and Dean have to deal with a solid season and a half at least of Meg and Castiel being behind every unfortunate plot twist and terrible new unexplained event in their lives and they get sick of it pretty quickly. Crowley is absolutely livid because Castiel being Lucifer 2.0 was his idea in the first place and he’s not allowed to just turn around and use it to steal his throne from him.

The end result way way way down the line is that when Jack comes along Castiel ends up raising two separate Antichrists to reign in heaven and in hell and no one can fuck with him because he controls God and the Devil’s bedtimes.

the other thing I would do with the like. Heaven politics and brainwashing arc and Naomi is like get rid of the narrative about Castiel being uniquely rebellious and give them a bizarre one-sided relationship dynamic.

Like I would have her want to fix him and bring him into line in part for political reasons bc he's become a symbol of free will and turning him back into an obedient soldier of heaven would be huge for getting heaven back into some form of order but I would also have it be like. The emotional motivation that she's not really able to admit to herself because good angels don't have feelings is that she cares about him and wants to help him get back to normal bc from her perspective he is sick and suffering.

I just think it's more fun if instead of being a particular problem case, Cas was like, at most on the upper end of the scale for how often he needed brainwashing, and his significance is just that Naomi kind of cared about him on a personal level and wanted to help him "get better" but then he rebelled in a huge way with catastrophic consequences and she always regretted not being able to do more to stop it.

The dynamic would be very much "My friend who has betrayed me but I might still be able to get through to" on Naomi's end but like from Cas' perspective they've never met and that's by design.
