500 years ago, the kingdoms of camelot and balor were one. camelot was ruled by a family of dragon shifters, notorious for their strong connection to magic, their kingdom lying deep within the darkling woods. balor, to the southeast, was ruled by the dragonlords, companions of the dragons that lived within both camelot and balor's borders. it is said that the peace between the kingdoms ceased when one man, known now only as the dragon king, the leader of the dragonlords, became too greedy, and desired the throne of the pendragon family as well as his own. (some sources argue that it wasn't the greed of the dragon king that motivated his actions, but the influence of a trickster god, but since the beginning of uther's reign, this knowledge has more or less been lost to time due to the purge of magic in camelot.)

the dragonlords used their unique abilities against the pendragons, twisting them to their will. as punishment for their cruelty, the gods had no choice but to intervene, (possibly because this problem was caused by the gods themselves, but who's to say?) and they struck the dragonlords, diminishing their numbers and dimming their power. the last of the dragonlords went into hiding for hundreds of years, keeping their ways to themselves and protecting the dragons from persecution. the pendragons thrived, though the dragon blood in their veins thinned over the years, naturally diluted by their mingling with humans. though it is still whispered that the pendragons retained many of these traits, despite no longer harnessing the ability to transform. in uther's time, the remaining dragonlords reunited with the pendragons, forming a friendship once again. but once again, the peace did not last between them...

some quick facts about dragon shifters:

the ability to transform into a dragon sticks around for about 5 generations

usually they are born like humans, but sometimes (say, like, 25% of the time?) they are hatched from eggs, much like actual dragons

most of the dragon shifters that have been around for the past century or so are related to the pendragons, hence why dragon shifters have disappeared (they can only copulate with humans, think of it kind of like how scientists think that the neanderthals disappeared)

some dragon shifters used to be created purely through magic (aka they have no genetic parents) and thus they would typically take on the appearance of the humans they grew up with in their human forms

anyway. that's what you needed to know in order to understand the joke i'm about to make. merlin was under the impression aithusa would probably look like him or gaius/freya because he assumed she was created through magic, but aithusa is actually a distant pendragon ancestor who's egg was preserved for centuries using magic!

I think this might be the first time I've put together a reference model for a self-insert without actually naming her anything first. I did find some words that could work, but never settled on one properly, even to use as a placeholder. But she has a design with the intended vibes now, at least!

Here are some (VERY quickly thrown together) renders to show her off - I made these yesterday but didn’t actually post this until now oops:

While I don’t have a name for her yet (as I said), I do at least have the basis of her character, and know what to put her in - she’s for IAYS, a setting created by two of my close friends! A calculating scientist employed by the Agency, her work revolves around testing and determining appropriate care parameters for the mutants maintained by the organisation. As much as it irritates her, she’s quite used to the higher-ups ignoring the optimal conclusions from her results for the sake of cutting costs.. but she is technically the reason they know how to keep a good chunk of their agents alive, and she does take notice of which ones they actually stake much more on keeping comfortable.

Once I’ve settled on a name for her that I like, I’d very much like to talk about her more, as well as the two(!) characters I intend to use her to selfship with, hehe. But it’s nice that she has the beginnings of a design now!

Found a really nice pose reference for a five-person selfie and immediately knew what I had to do.

I didn't expect much going in, though. It was my first time drawing Ravi and Shinju (and Delta!) and my first time colouring a drawing of Ennis. And instead of getting a cute sketch of my WIP's protagonists, I got one of the best and most ambitious finished pieces I've ever drawn.

I think it speaks a lot to how much my skill as an artist has improved the past couple of years that I'm able to realise something with so much detail and so many funky bits of perspective in only like, 3-4 days. Three years ago this would've taken me two weeks to finish and it wouldn't have looked half as good, either. Suffice to say I'm really proud of this illustration, both on its own and for what it represents for me as an artist.

It... might be time for me to admit I'm kinda good at this, huh?

Where are your Muse’s most sensitive erogenous zones?

　Korra is generally not very sensitive anywhere due to her late and little exploration, rigorous training and trauma. However, as she has heals and gains comfort, she becomes more sensitive. Her most sensitive zones are the sides of her ribs and waist, her lower abdomen along the v-line, her neck and at the corners of her jaw, if touched in a specific way.

What’s one thing that never fails to turn your Muse on?

　Usually Korra is rather reciprocative when she's attracted, so just simple initiation would likely have success. In more detail though: among physical features she finds the chest very sensual, and more abstractly she's drawn to intent, especially if it's intricate and smoldering. Confidence is also very important. The perfect concoction would be a combination of the above, more flirty attire donned along with delicate gestures that speak loudly. It's when she can read the decadence in her partner's eyes and feel it in their touch, unspoken -- her familiarity is in loud and direct dealings, so more soft and subtle advances get a stronger reaction out of her. Bonus points if her partner holds her waist and speaks in a low voice and watches her like they only see her ; she'll be very flustered lol.

What are your Muse’s thoughts on oral sex?

　For the longest time, she found oral awkward, due to how incredibly intimate and vulnerable she finds it. Her stance on it depends on the dynamic, but generally she tends to lean into it a lot more if she feels some level of reverence or protectiveness in relation to her partner. If such a dynamic isn't present, she'll be more likely to have trouble opening up and settling into a comfortable dynamic regarding it, which is the case with Zag ; she finds herself on pretty even ground with him and they're so similar it's sometimes like looking into a mirror, which throws her off a bit. Their friendship is so close to buddy-like sometimes and yet incredibly deep and natural, seamlessly bound to this magnetism between them ; it's a bond she's never experienced before, and needs time to adjust and understand what she feels. Before this happens, she tends to dance around the idea, especially of more dedicated sessions.

　This varies between masculine and feminine, but on the masc side she would find edging, oil and rough sex interesting. She also finds total darkness very sensual and particularly enjoyable every now and then, due to the same reasons she is sensitive to softer and intricate advances.

　Korra likes to say what she thinks, mostly! Usually it's things like compliments and it's so hot when xyz or xyz feels so good. She also tends to swear.

When was your Muse’s ‘sexual awakening’ and what happened? (With Zagreus specifically)

　With Zagreus specifically, the moment Korra first found him sexually attractive was when she met him, simply due to him being her type. However, the moment she was really hit with a concrete desire for him would be a moment after their friendship and her sentiments have had some time to simmer. Their friendship begins at a time where she's careful and a little walled off romantically, so even though the attraction is obviously there, she'll ignore and resist it first, scared of making a rash decision. The desire would surface after growing steadily in reassuring and recurring companionship, and it would be in little things while spending a lot of time with him ; admiring his form and movements, his power and prowess, the way he handles things in his hands, the sound of his voice, basking in the warmth of his friendship and the common physical affection / low touch barrier between them.

okay maybe I can make some more progress with this by rambling about it here

Some names I’ve been considering for “dubiously evil science me” (or, in other words, my IAYS self-insert):

Initially, I did my usual trick of looking through plant genera. This brought up candidates such as Melissa, Mona (from Monarda), Brychis, Alcea, Silene, Astane (from Castanea), Bryony, and Tiger (as in tiger lilies).

Outside of these, there were also some other name ideas I’ve had floating about for a bit and want to use at some stage, so could use this self-insert as that stage. These include Kitty, Mars, Chiara (which would be a repurposing of a currently-not-really-used self-insert name), Tessa, Elin, and Rena.

However, I then decided it could be fun and fitting to pick a name from bird genera, like I did for Ardea and (technically) Linaria. Unfortunately, I didn’t really find anything that I both liked and felt fit the way I want this self-insert to be. I could maybe use something from here as a surname, though (like Strix or Celeus or something else I clicked with).

The main things I’m keeping in mind here are the nature of this self-insert as a cunning and calculating scientist (so I don’t want anything that “sounds too soft and nice”, per my own perception), but also the names of the characters I’ll be using her to selfship with (these being Belle and Camellia) - I’d rather there wasn’t too much sound overlap, if I can avoid it!
