for the first time i can remember - that being 2016 through now - my university sent out an email to all university members and alums urging them to take direct political action against a proposed bill
that is... that is.. not a good sign
#my university is extremely high profile and yet rarely directly involves itself in political issues so this is... yeah...#i cannot ever remember getting a message from them saying 'call your senators' so.. yikes#its the endowment tax in the budget bill btw#they basically called it an existential threat to the university's operations and they are 100% right#it would crush financial aid for low income students and already underpaid faculty. AND research#there are huge cohorts of students on 100% tuition grants and i dont know how they would afford that if they lose 20% endowment revenue#yikes!
