Buon Natale from Francesca! 🎄

Francesca Vitale, one of my original characters, is an Italian girl in 1920s Pittsburgh. Having lost her mother in the 1918 flu pandemic and as the daughter of a hardworking steelworker, Francesca finds her voice and comfort in her close-knit Italian community.

For Christmas Eve she can’t wait to help Tia Zita cook up a surprise for her family and friends.

Francesca is a Ruthie doll but I’m planning to curl and bob her hair eventually. Her dress is from Donna’s Dollhouse on Etsy.

(When I first heard about Lila, I was excited— since I was a kid I always wanted an Italian-American doll though I hoped she’d be a historical. Of all my OCs, Francesca’s (and Karine’s) concept is most inspired by my family history.)

The Preface of Missy

While thinking about what’s name that would suit me well, Missy passed on my mind! This girl goes by name Missy Millicent Rothwell and I’d love to be called as Misi or Mici. Any nicknames or petnames are okay if you wanna give me some... <3 That would be cute, me thinks.

For your information, I got ENFP-T for the first time I took a mbti test. I don’t know what’s mine now since I’m too lazy rechecking that not so important label, so let’s just pretend that I’m still ENFP-T okay? Next, people tend to know that my zodiac sign is a crying baby but I can guarantee that I’m not one of them though we have the same sign. I’m a proud cancerian (get well soon...) but my fellow cancerian mates often told that I’m a fake cancerian and sometimes I think the same. I’m such a person who has a super duper mega high level of ego, that’s why I don’t like to show my weakness to someone that’s not really close with me. I hide the feelings within and pass the day with 555 lmao lol.

Phuong Kim Hoang and Mai Linh Hoang · 1996 · Atlanta, GA

Phuong and Mai are 12 year old Vietnamese American twin sisters in Atlanta. Both of their parents are immigrants. Though the twins have different styles and hobbies, they both like technology (they share their cassette tapes, Gameboy, and camera). They have a pair of pet parakeets named Lemon and Lime. Phuong’s preferred sport is table tennis and she also likes choreographing dances, while Mai plays both soccer and volleyball. Both girls are excited for the 1996 Olympic Games in their city, but come to realize the games’ impact on locals and the environment. They are further alarmed by the bombing that occurs in their city. Both girls are pretty outgoing and share a lot of mutual friends. Their uncle owns a Vietnamese food stand and the girls like to help him out and sample his food.

If they were dolls, they would both have the Corinne mold, black hair, and dark brown eyes. Phuong would wear glasses and wear braids, and Mai would have shoulder-length hair and a beauty mark next to her nose.

My World By Us OCs

Cassie Nilsson: 13-year-old Cassie has a Swedish-American father and a Dutch-American mother. This is Cassie’s first school year presenting as a girl and with her new name. When she notices that her school often ignores bullying that occurs outside the classroom, she takes matters into her own hands to stand up for herself and her friends. Cassie enjoys board games, especially Dungeons & Dragons because it allows her to be the hero and create her own characters. Her favorite class is English because she loves telling stories.

Alright SO I’ve thought of yet another 1990s OC and I’m thinking her story will take place earlier in the decade, but I haven’t chosen a major historical event to cover yet.

I was doing some Googling and found that 35,000 Iranian Jews immigrated to the US following the 1979 Iran Revolution, and many of them settled in Los Angeles, CA, Long Island, NY, and Baltimore, MD. So, for my early 90s OC, I thought of an Iranian Jewish girl, though I’m not sure where to place her story yet. Her parents will have both moved to America, but she will have been born in the US.

For names I’m thinking either Anahita (“immaculate, clean”), Haleh (“halo around the moon”), Soraya (“the Pleiades”) or Parvaneh (“butterfly”). (I couldn’t find specifically Jewish and Persian names but these were some Persian names I liked.) I’m open to name suggestions though!

Aoife Callaghan, an Irish girl who immigrates to Boston, MA during the Great Famine in 1846 who loves helping others and caring for children.

Minna Hoffmann, a German girl in 1889 Johnstown, PA, who has recently survived America’s deadliest flood and loves to play the piano.

Etta Mae Bradley, a half-Black and half-Mexican girl in Amarillo, TX in 1894 who wants to be a teacher but also loves helping on her family farm.

Francesca Vitale, a recent Italian immigrant in 1920 Pittsburgh, PA, who uses baking to cope with her mother’s death and father’s union hardships.

Honoka Oishi, a Japanese girl in 1949 who loves softball and helping in her family’s restaurant in Portland, OR’s, Japantown.

Chela Suarez, a recent arrival from Havana in 1962 Miami, FL, who finds pride in comic books and her Cuban heritage during the beginnings of one of the most tumultuous decades in US history.

Karine Bedrosian, an Armenian girl whose cousin was recently drafted in the Vietnam war, who dreams of being a poet and peace advocate in 1971 Chicago, IL.

Meet Chela: August 1962

11-year-old Graciela “Chela” Suarez has only been in Miami for just over a week when it’s time for her to begin 5th grade at Our Lady of Peace all-girls Catholic school. For good luck, Chela brings her rosary from her previous home in Havana for praying during Chapel.

Her uniform is hand-me-downs from one of her neighbor’s daughters who attended the school before Chela. It’s Molly’s school blouse and meet skirt which will serve as her school uniform.
