Hi I absolutely missed this so I hope I'm not responding suuuuuper late! Normally I don't put my playlists on Spotify but I needed to share this with someone else a few weeks ago so I present to you: Socialist Klezmer and Mr. Mom by Lonestar (cw for discussion of the Holocaust and antisemitism for some songs)

The playlist was designed to be shuffled as the title is very much not a joke, but you can always start from the second song if you're not in the mood for the one country song that has been stuck in my head for weeks.

As for recs, my general recommendation is "honestly I only know stuff by Daniel Kahn, pick a song with a title that sounds cool and start from there", but if you're interested in specific song recs then my top four are probably Parasite*, Freedom is a Verb, Butcher's Sher, and March of the Jobless Corps, all by Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird, all of which actually fit the theme beyond "song by Daniel Kahn". I definitely rec the music videos for the last two.

*this song does walk through the life cycle of the lancet liver fluke (does not include humans, to be clear), which I think is fun but I could see it squicking some people out.

last show: I think it was arcane, back when that came out? I haven't really been watching shows. I have a long list of ones I want to see but I haven't been able to wrangle my brain into it. Sandman and OFMD are at the top of my list though!

currently reading: I just finished Shadow of the Wind, which was obviously great, and am rereading Gideon the Ninth in anticipation of book 3 of the Locked Tomb coming out next month!

current obsession: Oh no. Well. I started playing wizard101 (that MMO from 2008) again earlier this year and am very much hyperfixating. I'd never recommend the game to anyone, but I unironically love it a lot. The story gets pretty interesting, and I have so much internal ~lore~ about my wizard that he's basically an OC at this point. I'm a little obsessed with him! Imagine a high fantasy wizarding world with all kinds of magic, talking animals, and powerful gods, where everyone is running around in fancy robes and elegant armor, riding around on celestial animals or dragons. And then picture a regular bisexual guy in jeans and a t-shirt, with a skateboard and a dog. That's my necromancer :) The game is still pretty active and mostly 20-something year olds now. I can't in good conscience recommend wiz to anyone but I always want to talk about my funky lil wizard

this is a uh Big and Nuanced Topic but! as an anorexic, is it erroneous to call myself disabled/chronically ill? (my ed is active but i engage in harm reduction, so im experiencing all those Delightful physical and emotional side effects) and it feels like a helpful designation to explain to people my limits or needs for accommodations, but i don’t want to claim an experience of oppression that isn’t mine. (btw, i ofc recognize that my liberation is connected to anti-ableism either way) ty xoxo

i don’t think you need me to answer this–you get it! disability is not a thing-in-itself, it’s a condition in which the built environment and other social, civic, and institutional aspects of society are inaccessible to us, disabling to us. 

you are sick, and it’s a chronic illness with both psychological and physiological symptoms that, lbr, are life-controlling at best and deadly at worst. you’re chronically ill, and in many contexts you’re disabled. ada approved, baby.

but there are also a lot of contexts in which your abilities will line up w norms in ways that aren’t the case for, e.g. wheelchair users or people with more stigmatized and marginalized patterns of communication, behavior, cognition. you have more access than many. that should remain a central consideration in your concepts and actions around disability (and mine).

disability is a coalition deal–we’re all over the matrix of experiences and intersections. you are a part of it if experience has led you here, and i know you’ll be a part of it thoughtfully. stay in solidarity w the most marginalized among us. you’re “sick enough” to be here. xx
