So I keep thinking of Shark becuase I love sharks so much! Yoongi is a shark hybrid and in Hawaiian mythology called Nanaue. Basically a male on land that turns into a shark in the water. I know this idea isn’t true hybrid like but it still involves human/animal (and i’m a rule breaker)

I’ve always loved animals, whether they were cute and fluffy to rough and scary. Prey and predators..all so magnificent. I loved Sharks in particular for some reason because not all of them are man eaters like the world portrays them to be. There was a shark legend that stuck with me; the Hawaiian legend of Nanaue. It’s something passed down and only happens to certain people. Being a human on land and then turning into a Shark when in the water..the thought was fascinating. 

Today was such a nice day so I decided to go swimming at the indoor pool close to my house. I’m not sure why I didn’t go outside to swim, something in my gut told me to go to the indoor one. I put on my bathing suit and put a cover up on while sliding on some sandals and placing sunglasses on my face. I lock my door and head on the short walk to the pool. The warm breath danced over my skin as the sun gently shone down. There were a few other people heading out for a swim, whether they were in cars, bikes, or on foot. I reach the large double doors to the building and pull on open, stepping inside. The familiar smell of chlorine filled the air and I went to the front desk to sign in. After chatting a tiny bit with the receptionist I went into the pool room and settled down on a chair, people watching for a bit. The owner of the building walked in and I waved at him since he was a good family friend. He waved back and stepped to the side, revealing a very handsome young male. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks as they headed over. 

“Y/N! So nice to see you again!” Mr. Lee exclaims and I stand up to give him a hug

“It’s good to see you too!” I reply, returning the hug. 

“This is Min Yoongi, he’s going to be one of our new helpers” Mr Lee explains and I turn to him. 

“Nice to meet you, I’m Y/N” I introduce, holding a hand out to him. 

“Nice to meet you too” he replies, with a voice that matches his image. He seems really relaxed, a little lazy too. But never judge a book by it’s cover. Mr. Lee left us to get acquainted and it was a little awkward but it was something. I learned that he’s a rapper, and writes his own songs. After talking for a bit, I cautiously asked for his phone number because I wanted to get t know him more and he gave it to me. I got a text from my parent, saying that I needed to get home so I bid Yoongi a goodbye and headed out. 

‘Why would someone work at a pool and not go in? It’s not really the place to have a fear of water or drowning’ I think to myself, trying to think of different reasons. None of them made any sense so I gave up and unlocked the door to the house and stepped inside. I closed the door after me and took my sandals and sunglasses off

“I’m home!” I shout and my parents walk in. 

“So...we heard from Mr. Lee that he has a new helper that’s young...” one trails off

“Did you get to meet him?” the other asks and I deadpan

“Really?! I met him and he’s cute but why do you keep trying to set me up with people?” I question with a laugh

“Well..we don’t want you to be lonely” they say and I wave them off

“I got his number to get to know him..maybe I’ll get lucky” I reply and the light up

“Our little Y/N is growing up so fast!” they coo and wrap me in a giant hug. I shake my head and return the hug then go up to my room. I had an unread text from an unknown number. I plop on my bed and unlock my phone

‘Do you like sharks?’ -Yoongi

I looked at my phone..why would he ask me that? Oh well..at least it wasn’t some creepy person texting me. 

‘Yes I do actually. They’re my favorite animal~’ I reply, looking at my many plush Sharks and Shark books. 

‘So do I..why do you like them?’ he asks and I look at my phone puzzled

‘Because they’re a magnificent creature. One that’s portrayed as a monster when it’s not.’ 

‘Have you heard of Nanaue?’ comes his next question and this gets my brain working. 

‘Yes I have, it’s a Hawaiian legend about a person on land and a shark in water. It’s awesome’ 

Could Yoongi be Nanaue?? That would explain why he didn’t go into the water. He’d transform into a Shark. It makes so much sense! But I can’t jump to conclusions...even if I want to. After that I didn’t get another text but that’s okay because I was too busy thinking. If he was, I’d be completely okay with it. The Shark side wouldn’t really affect the actual Yoongie..

‘Wow, it sounds like I’ve been dating him for years and not knowing him for only a day..’ I laugh at myself and check the time. Summer break started tomorrow so I had a few months to get to know Yoongi and see if he’s Nanaue. I decided to sleep and figure out what to do tomorrow, I really wanted to get to know him more. 

Next Morning

The pool opened at around 11am so I lounged around the house a bit. I don’t have a summer job and the pool is still hiring...I pull out my phone and dial Mr. Lee’s number

“Ah Y/N, how are you today?” he asks

“I’m good! I was wondering if I could have a job for the summer?” I ask hopefully and I can almost hear him grinning from the other end

“Of course! We could always need more young workers! Want to start today since you already know the ropes?” he asks and I nod excitedly

“Of course! I’ll be there soon” I shout and he laughs. We say buy and hang up. I rush downstairs to say my good news

“Mr. Lee hired me at the pool! I’m going to start today!” I exclaim and they look at me. 

“That’s great! It’ll keep you busy!” 

A quick look at the time and I rush back up to my room to get ready. I was excited, with so many what ifs running through my mind. I put my ear buds in and headed on the short walk, enjoying the nice weather. I got there right as Mr. Lee was opening the pool, Yoongi right behind him. I smile and greet both of them. Mr. Lee walked in first but Yoongi gently grabbed my arm

“Do you know already? About Nanaue” he asks in a low voice and I nod

“I figured when you asked me about it randomly. It’s not scary, but fascinating. I’m the last person that would judge you” I reply and he smiles. It’s a wide smile, showing his gums in the process and I smile back. We walk in together and get everything ready for the day. I’m in awe still..I can’t believe it was that easy. Yoongi was Nanaue...just like that. All of my curiosity dissolved as I processed the fact. But what if he was lying? Making it up to get a rise out of me..he doesn’t seem like the tricking type though. He may seem a little cold and lazy but he’s the opposite as well.

“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” I question randomly, mouth speaking before my brain. Yoongi looked at me with a confused expression

“Why would I lie?” he asks and I shrug. 

“I don’t know..just a random thought” I mumble and he looks to the water. 

“Here, I’ll show you. I told you because I felt I could trust you..only a few others know this so you can’t tell anyone” he states and I nod. He takes his work shirt off, showing very smooth, milky white skin. He lets out a short breath and then jumps in the water. For some reason I jumped in too and came face to face with a great white. My eyes hurt from being open under water but I couldn’t stop staring. I swam with him around the pool, feeling his skin. He was a real life Shark...right in front of my eyes. Nanaue was real, and was a person I just met. I popped back up to the surface for air in a daze. I swam to the edge and pulled myself out, sitting down. Yoongi kept swimming around in the water until he pulled himself up on the ledge next to me and morphed back into a human. Something came over me and I reached over to hug him. He stayed still for a bit

“Thank you..thank you for trusting me with this. I won’t tell anyone” I promise, speaking into his shoulder. He pats my back

“Thank you” he says and Mr. Lee walks in. 

“Come on young ones, we got work to do!” he shouts, clapping his hands together. 

From that day on I started hanging out with Yoongi more and he even met my parents. We began to date after about 6 months of knowing each other and I met his six friends that knew he was Nanaue.
