Zenji is such a fun, unpredictable guy in the way that every character cue used on him screams "Traditional! Japanese!!" but then he opens his mouth and it's just a barrage English loanwords one after another. 😂
he actually sounds far more elegant (befitting of the whole Dramatic Poet trope) in the English loc, imo. 😅
if nyanko sensei ends up being natsume's grandfather then i will never fully be able to fully separate the two from charlie kelly and frank reynolds.
like, yea, i may or may not have been sharing a bed with the man who may or may not be my father/grandfather for the past several years of my life, what of it
i like the natsume dub, but i'm glad i watched it with subs first. for one thing, the japanese voice acting simply cannot be beat. for another, the dub translates nicknames into english - for instance, the little tatsumi that hatches from an egg, turning natsume into a teen dad, is called "eggy" in the dub instead of "tama" (which unless i'm mistaken is a shortened form of the japanese word for "egg") - which isn't a bad thing, but it does end up creating the possibility of a little misunderstanding once you get to taki's first episode. because if you couldn't hear the japanese, and you were accustomed to characters getting jokey english nicknames like eggy, and you heard that a character who hadn't talked for almost a year was named something that sounded phonetically like "talkie", would you assume that she had a completely different name in japanese that was a pun on the japanese word for "talk"? because that's probably what i would have assumed lol. but luckily i watched it in japanese with subs first, so. crisis averted!
Recently Crunchyroll has added 2 more seasons of Natsume's book of friends to regions that didn't have them before.
They have also put it back on the watch free with ads section as of this morning. So now is a pretty great time to show it some love before S7! Even for those who can't afford a subscription yet or those who are waiting to see if S7 will release where you are first😊💗.
Hopefully it gets lots of support. It's such a wonderful and comforting series😊
Watching Natsume Yuujincho is such an interesting experience because you will never want to throw hands with children more in your entire life. The adults are bad enough, but the kids are on a whole other level.
